Have installed Tom Tom software which works OK but evertime I use it it makes a data connection via Edge or gprs.
How can I stop it?
The same thing happens if I have a wifi connection to my network it also tries to connect via Orange.
How can I stop this as I do not want an unwelcome bill in a while?
If it means disabling something so that I can not connect to internet via gprs that would be fine but seem to be unable to find a setting.
Thanks
Hi
I no expert but sounds like AGPS kicking in. Do you have Location Settings option in "Settings\System"? If yes you can turn this off, if not then dunno, maybe someone else can guide.
You could also install the "HTC No Data" utility, search the threads here or Google it.
Cheers
Proper Job!!!
Seems to have stopped it dialling up with TOM TOM
Just need it to not dial up when using wifi now.
You may wanna try searching for and installing MoDaCo NoData... Works great for me...
Sussed it.
In network settings instead of havung it set to Orange Internet set it to Work Network and works OK.
Proper Job.

Try the Vairio GPRS app thats in the MDA CDs, I also just posted here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32094
Its not ideal but it will allow you to controll when GPRS is on or not - other than that the MDA will work it for its self.

i'm struggling at the moment since my kjam decides to turn wifi off when it sleeps but still activesyncs via gprs even when i'm in the house and the wifi is still available.
i've tried that reg hack to stop wifi turning off on suspend but all that has done is stopping the wifi relogging on to the access point when i turn back on and stop gprs
can someone upload the vario app so can see if that helps.

:edit: oh its just gprs monitor. no it doesnt. its not that useful really
Since we're talking about wifi, for several hours yesterday I tried getting on my WiFi at work and home. No luck. Thinking it might help, I went to Starbuck's and couldn't get on either.
Can someone help me??!!! I did it with my PDA2K but can't remember how. This is really starting to piss me off!
My wifi at work and home had WPA-PSK and TKIP setup. I found, and I think this is the problem, that when I had these options selected on the K-Jam 802.1x was also enabled...and I couldn't uncheck it like I can on my laptop. (I confirmed the wifi worked via laptop). So, I went to an open system and I still couldn't connect. I could see the network, and I was asked for the passphrase, but I couldn't connect and get an IP address. I tried Starbucks and the same thing happened.
Any thoughts????
Thanks,
Tom
Hello all. I have a Cingular 8525 (WM5) that I have successfully setup to use my home WiFi connection. Skype works great. My signal strength is good. In the "Network Cards" applet, it shows my WiFi network (it's the only one listed) with four bars and a "Connected" status. Everything seems fine.
When I try to use IE, though, it always tries to use GPRS to connect! Under Connections->Advanced->Select Networks, I have chosen "My Work Network" for both options. It still tries to use GPRS!
I don't even have a SIM installed, so I have no phone service whatsoever. So why in the blazes is it trying to use it instead of WiFi?
Anybody got any ideas?
Edit:
Well, I got it to work by toggling flight mode on and then back off again. Then, I had to turn WiFi back on again (bringing the phone out of flight mode doesn't re-enable WiFi). After I did that, though, IE used my wireless connection. Go figure.
I wish I knew the real reason, though. Someday, I'm going to install a SIM in this thing and I want to make sure it's not using that over my home wireless connection. Guess I'll have to look into those GPRS hacks I keep reading about.
maybe not much help but I had the same problem recently. I turned the phone to 'off' (even though it had no sim in it) and left it - it resolved itself and it working fine!
Thanks Frank. Glad I'm not the only one.
As a sidenote, I checked the registry settings (hack) for GPRS and there were two ISP's listed: one called My ISP and another called Cingular ISP (or something to that effect). In both cases, they were already set to 0 (off), so I would think they should have already been disabled.
GPRS lock
Hey guys I found a program called NOData these program allows you to disable the gprs so you dont suffer the conectio while you're using wi-fi and loose signal strenght works great and really easy to use.
Cheers
Same Problem
I have a T-mobile MDA and it has the same problem. I can fix it by going to the communication manager, turning off "data connection", and then toggling the wifi off and then back on. That always seems to fix it. Also, just going to flight mode does the same thing.
my X01HT always connect to gprs..i dont know how to turn off it..i`ll try MoDaCo_NoData..
gprs lock

Hi there. How can I prevent my data connection from going on (even in standby mode)?
Thanks
Turn it off.
Sorry, just kidding ;-)
There is a program called NoData you can find more information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467813

if you don't need data connection permanently when what you can do is don't configure any settings for the data connection.
however this did not work for me the first time... so I did a hard reset and do not allow the phone to auto-configure the data settings... works like a charm after that.... no more data connection except for wifi which I will need to turn on manually....
of course if all this doesn't work... try the cool app mentioned above.... nodata.cab...
Hello there, i finally got a 3g sim(by TIM Italy) for my topaz..i use it as a modem for my laptop and it works very well..but i don't have internet when i use the phone standalone Any clues?? I used the automatic config and i got a correct connection, in fact whe i want to update weather for example icons on the top bar start to change as if the data connection was correctly invoked..but i get a connection error pretty soon, same for Youtube or opera!!please help
hello,
I have a different problem. My sim card was broken so i got a new one.

Check that use proxy is not enabled in connection setings for your internet.

Thanks for your reply. I tried but when i unchecked the "use proxy" thing, WM is re checking it again.
Maybe there is something in the band settings that i miss.
@opensea: i'm afraid pa49 was answering to my thread, your problem could depend on the coverage in your area.
@pa49: if your answer was for me i checked that, thanks anyway.
Ok, now i know it can work flawlessly doing a hardreset, so my fault..will have to put all the stuff (well not all,i guess) again. But gosh do i have to check if it works even if i put stuff like tomtom or sportypal back on? I'm sure it's either HDTweak or AndvancedConfig, i unistalled them but no use. I guess they leave "bad" settings for my purpose even if unistalled.
Well, bye
How do I disable the phone from auto connecting to gprs? I tried testing it by launching opera without switching on wifi. The phone still connects through gprs although I turn data connection off. It will turn data connection on by itself. Even when I switch wifi on and want it to connect through wifi instead, it is still connecting through gprs. How do i solve this?
When wifi is "connected" (not only "on"), it uses wifi, no dataconnection.
If you really don't want a dataconnection, use something like NoData...
i tried NoData but it's not working. i'm using official htc wm6.5 rom.
Sorry I cannot be more precise because I don't use it anymore, but I remember there was an option to block data connection in HDTweak. Is that you want? Block dataconnection permanently? If so, you could alternatively delete your mobile operator connection in Settings/Connections. If anyone knows the registry changes involved in this, please post them so that I can make a .cab, I need it when roaming.
try MWLongLife! It's magic
this program is developed for saving battrey life by controlling 3G/2G network and data usage
you can set each program which need data access by 3G, WiFi, USB, etc.
Also, force to use Wifi rather than gprs if it's available.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I tried installing nodata again and it worked this time.
for those interested there's also a cab to disable push internet completely (think that was the origin of your problem).
Search the forum on NoPushInternet

Yes please... I was about to post the same issue. I think the precedence in WM6.5 of using mobile wireless over WiFi is the wrong way around if the WiFi signal is strong. In my house, my WiFi is strong everywhere but 3G comes and goes. It's darn annoying to get the message about "No connectivity" when I know for sure there is a very good WiFi signal.
Cheers, Rob.
PS. Just had it whilst writing this email - "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device..."
It's "WM" not "MW".

That's much better!! thanks fighter7139, gonna try right now!
