Chinese Song display in English Regional Setting - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi there, i have a problem to display all my chinese mp3 song no matter in Windows Media Player or HTC Audio Manager in TF3D, i have CE-Star installed for my Chinese input, but it just won't work with the mp3 song display, can the experts help me out ?

I think, most likely the application that you are using to play MP3 files does not support Unicode UTF8 encoding.

Do you sync the music using WM Player? If you do, the song, artist and album info won't display correctly on your phone.
To correct this, you need to stop music sync (activesync or WMPlayer), and edit songs (on your storage card) with a mp3 tag editor (like mp3tag, a free pc software).
Hope this helps.

mp3's not working as ringtones

I have created some ringtones with Vito ringtone editor but they're not working.
Do I have to activate the phone to use mp3's or something?
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks, Dean
just put mp3 in the dir /windows/rings
be sure to have windows media player as the default player for mp3 files, then put your ringtones in My Ringtones in My Documents folder either on Main Memory or in storage card.

I think the problem is that I have core player as the deafault player. Now the thing is, I've just spent 1/2 hour looking through menus and cant seem to return Windows media player as the default. Sounds basic but I cant find it - can anyone help here?
Do I just uncheck all of the file associations in core player ?
Thanks, Dean
yup, just uncheck the tick mark in front of mp3 in core player, and don't let any other audio player take the association of mp3 files. When no player is associated to mp3 files, then media player is the default player.
I found this post online where people have the same problem as me:
http://www.futurehardware.in/568121.htm
Surely I can make windows media the default player without resorting to a hard reset.
Can anyone help with this please?
Cheers, Dean

Best option is to use a program on your PC that can put the album picture in the MP3 file headers. That's what WMP11 does on the PC either automatically (it downloads from allmusic.com) or manually (you can paste any image as album cover).
Once the picture is in the MP3 headers, WMP on the pocketpc will show it while playing.
i've tried but not work
It will also display the cover art if it is saved as folder.jpg in the album's folder, just like desktop Windows Media player does.

seems to be the only way. what a hassle.
i use mediamonkey to embed the album art into mp3 and wma files
why cant wmp jus show the embedded picture?
is there any other music software which will do this simple task?
what would be ideal is a music software which showed embedded album art, turned on bluetooth and auto-connected to the ad2p headphones and also turned on auto-answer for all calls and set the device volume... anyone know somethign that does this!?

[Fix Found!] Media Panel not displaying Chinese titles properly

Found the Media Panel CAB that was extracted out from a Traditional Chinese ROM. It will fix the display problem found in English ROM's media panel, where Chinese song titles are not shown properly (shown as "???"). Apparently, it also fix the album art problem!
I've uploaded to one of the shared ftp site, you can get it from here

yes it does, I have some song titles in simplified chinese too, and they are shown properly w/o any problem.
my gripe now is that if the songs are wmv, it spawns off windows media player instead of using the built in player.
but the entire navigation experience, etc makes me feel the power of media panel, that when media panel is activated, it transform the device as a mp3/video gadget, instead of just a device that can play mp3 or mpeg video.

The navigation of the MXP is inconsistent when you swipe left/right and up/down.
Also, its flickscrolling mechanism is a unpolished.
One good thing I noticed though, wonder if it is a standard among WM phone, is that if you press the on/off button during playback on WMP or MXP, the screen turns off but the audio output remains.
Japanese also Supported
I installed it and it also shows japanese characters, cool upload thanks!
Is this from original tw rom?
yes it's can show simplified characters,but some of characters still missing but not “□”,only missing.
Not playing songs.
Now I can read it...
The music doesn't play tho..
Any idea why?

Sort order songs in an album

When transferring an album to the HD2 and then in Music opening gives a wrong sort order. I cannot make a distinction what the sort order is, but it is wrong. Any ideas?
Yeah me too I have this problem... Doesn't seem to be alphabetical order I don't understand the logic around the order...?
I have all my tracked numbered, and it still mixes them up
???
I hope you all have shuffle turned off.
Mine are all fine
>I hope you all have shuffle turned off.
Of course, but the problem is before playback, it's the order in which the songs appear in the player under the "album" view, they don't come under alphabetical order of the file name or mp3 tag...
They're in the correct order (alphabetical) when looking at them via file explorer though.

Just a thought, could it be that the songs are ordered by artist name? The HTC music player doesn't use the "album artist" tag, but the "artist" tag instead. Meaning that, although you have selected an album, it may well be that it treats the individual songs as seperated and group them by artist.
Anyway, best practice is to substitute all "artist name" tags with the "album artist" tag. That way, you don't have a gazillion artist under "artists" when you browse through you collection by artist.
I can recommend MP3 Tag editor, free and powerfull tool
All my songs are perfectly "tagged" in iTunes. Artist and album artist are the same. Songs are x from y songs. So on the HTC clicking on Artists it shows the artists perfectly sorted. When I click on the album of the artist, then the songs appears in random order.
And still I cannot see the way HTC orders the songs.

Aha, iTunes you say? Now you mention it, I have two albums I bought via the iTunes store and with those albums I have exactly the same problem as you described. I therefore suspect it has something to do with the apple m4a format.
I have no problems with the other 140 albums I have in my library (all in mp3 format).
Because it frustrates me to I'm gonna play a little bit with the MP3 tag editor and report back to this thread if I found out the magic trick.
(BTW do you also have a pile of the same album covers displayed when you play an album?)
Yep.
And also your conclusion is completely right. mp3 is fine, but m4a is wrong (and I have over 3.300 m4a's so it's quite an annoying bug for me).
have you tried tagging the music files manually? I tag all my mp3s with mp3tag (freeware) and I have no issues, windows and my hd2 always index them in the correct order with the album art included etc.

I suspect you would have to convert all the .m4a's to .mp3's then check the tags and then sync. Alternatively create a playlist for the offending album in the correct order.
I don't have any .m4a's but can't you just tag them like any other media?
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
Mp3tag supports the following audio formats:
* Advanced Audio Coding (aac)
* Free Lossless Audio Codec (flac)
* Monkey's Audio (ape)
* Mpeg Layer 3 (mp3)
* MPEG-4 (mp4 / m4a / m4b / iTunes compatible)
* Musepack (mpc)
* Ogg Vorbis (ogg)
* OptimFROG (ofr)
* OptimFROG DualStream (ofs)
* Speex (spx)
* Tom's Audio Kompressor (tak)
* True Audio (tta)
* Windows Media Audio (wma)
* WavPack (wv)
I don't want to tag all these files again as they are perfectly tagged. HTC should fix this.

I've tried it and unfortunately re-tagging them won't work. I think that the problems lies in the way the HTC music player is parsing the tags embedded in mp4 files (m4a)

I don't know what is wise, but I think that for some consumers it is a point of consideration. Anyway, for a producer like HTC it's a clever thing that they decided to support the Apple format.

As I am experiencing the same problem with WMA-Tracks, I think HTC should really get into this. HD2 is running on a Windows platform, isn't it?
The problem still remains.
All songs are perfectly tagged (iTunes) and are according to the accepted format shown on the technical specifications on the HTC-site (aac, mp3 and m4a).
Any registry setting maybe?

HTC HD2 music player stop after a few seconds

Hello, my name is Fernando.
First of all, I apologize for my english, but my natural speak is Spanish.
I have a problem with the HTC HD2 music player HD2 since I bougt it 2 weeks ago.
When try to playing a song from any album with the player, I see the spinning circle in the upper left corner.
Please, seek a video of that in YouTube called "HTC HD2 music player stop after a few seconds" (I can't post it 'cause I'm a new user ...)
I assume that is seeking changes and updating the music library. After a few seconds (30 approximately) the music stops and can’t access the library. Even in landscape view, the library is empty (see video on the end part).
I searched help into this site and various others forums on the Internet, and I found many people with the same problema, but no effective solution.
The files are stored in “Storage Card \ Music \ Artist \ Album” folder structure, and they are called “01 - TrackName_AlbumName_ArtistName.mp3” structure.
My phone has the following software characteristics:
(Please see pic attached)
I have made many unsuccessful trials to solve this mistake, I will try to list all of them:
• Updating or changing ROM versions to 6.5.3 , 6.5.5 and 6.5 (actually running 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE version from laurentius26, that is excelent by the way)
• Update Manila version
• Update Radio version
• Format memory card (8 GB) with the PC in Disk Storage mode.
• Format memory card (8 GB) since the included HTC HD2 Format SD Card app.
• Conversion of all audio files to MP3 format 192 Kb / s (no WMA files)
• Tag all files to ID3v2.4 UTF-8
• Put a file called folder.jpg in each audio folder with the correct front album cover disc (all albums are showing it correctly)
• Change the length of the audio MP3 filenames (shortest names for test)
• Change the folder of the files locations (put all in the root folder of the SD Card for test)
• Delete the file located into “Application Data \ HTC \ AudioManager_Eng” and called “AudioManager_Eng.vol” several times to be generated again when start the player for first time.
But nothing Works !!! …the software always stops after a few seconds of use.
At this moment I'm using another software called S2P v0.80 beta to play music, it has the iPhone's style and works very well, but has some mistakes handling the hearphones' HTC remote control, and the audio quality is not as good as Sense version because S2P uses WMP….
Can anyone help me please? I am desperate to fix this ... 'cause I use the phone for music player mainly and is impossible to do it with this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Can you play the media in the windows media player?
If that works then an application you have installed has caused the problem.
For me it was tomtom(the edited version that fixes bluetooth) it broke my HTC media player.
The only way to work out which one is to factory reset the phone so it works.
Then reinstall your apps 1 by 1 till it breaks again.

try refreshing using total commander.. path to the storage card, refresh a few times, soft reset.. generally works
This problem occurs when htc music tab is unable to update album art. Please check wheter there's a read-only file in the directory. Uncheck read-only box and run album art updater, you should of course have a connection to internet. I had the same problem both with my hd and hd2 but after clearing the read-only status of the files, I 'm able to play them as I love to do with my music tab....
this is how i solved it. convert everything to wma.

same problem
what software did u use to convert all your library to wma?

the only that you need to do is to transfer the music to your hd2 only with windows media player via active sync,but first:erase completely the music map in you sd card,make a copy of the sd,format the sd with the phones program(you kan found under windows start>tools)put back all to the sd and make a new music map,ready!!you can start to transfer music!!I have a 16gb sandisk with more than 1600 tracks in mp3 and aac and no problems any more!I speak spanish to so, if you want you can make a private question if you need some help,saludos
I had a similar problem to this where it would stop playing a song after a few seconds then refuse to play anything else. I can't remember the exact program I used, but to fix it I ran an MP3 error checker through my music library, which fixed some corrupt files that were preventing the rest from playing. Has worked fine since I did it about a month ago.

You can use Switch Audio Converter (free on basic mode, but works fine)from http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html or dBpoweramp from http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ (15 days trial, but faster than the other).

Hi
I Have the same problem with Manila's Music Player...
but there is a thing and that is that I have changed all my music tags with a specific program (Mp3Tag I think...). the question is do I have to make all tags again if I convert all of my MP3's to WMA?
and I have another problem which is so annoying indeed!!!
if I hadn't have any phone calls since my last soft reset there is no problem but when I make a phone call or answer an incoming call after finishing the call when I lock the screen while listening to a track the music pauses after about 3 seconds!!! and actually it is independent from listening music with sence music tab or Windows Media Player !
both has same problem...
is there any solution???
First, try to convert all your library to WMA format, tags will not be lose. Try downloading Switch Sound File Converter from http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html, it is free.
Maybe, this process solve the last problem explained about shutdown music after calls.
Im sorry, converting to WMA just is not a solution, you shouldnt have to, the player can play MP3s, and so it should play them well. Mine has only recently started doing this (latest energy rom) it has never done it before
