i'm having a real hard time finding out if there have been any tty programs made for the G1, if there have been any, could you point me in the right direction?
i will take that as a resounding no.

Hey there Developers...
I would like to ask if any of you guys know of a PPC applications that can calculate how near or far a Bluetooth pair is.
Tell me its cheesy but let me give you an example:
My sister and I do groceries and we split ways. The Hypermarket is huge and we split ways, she makes her way to the veggies, I make my way to the booze section. After sometimes she is gone and I need to give her a call. So I need a way to find her using my PPC through ranged BT "pinging" to indicate if she is near by or not. Is there a software or is there anyway that this can be developed?
What if your sister has her phone in her pocket/bag? Then the ping won't be accurate, since it'll take more time to discover her. :?

if i was at the booze section... i wouldn't want to find my sister!
hehe
[email protected] Wroet.
Anyways, I was just thinking if it would be possible. I mean basically I was thinking how the PPC would determine the distance between the 10m radius and also to which direction. But if it is possible... The it be a great tool.
has any one got any new wep cracking tools they would care to share or any bluesnafing/bluejacking tools
Do0d, it is very bad form to be asking for blatantly illegal things in public forum...
Concur
I concur.
Try Google please.
why would you say its illegal there are plenty of reasons for needing such programs eg you have just got a router of ebay it has the wep enabled wouldnt you need a wep cracker to get the key????
bluesnafing tools i have two phones one just for sms but i left it upstairs (am lazy by the way) i have my main phone with all the time i could use the tool to get my sms from the phone upstairs
i wouldnt dream of doing any thing illegal with them unless hacking my own phone and network is illegal
So please people dont be so quick to jump the gun
Well I'm glad to hear you have honorable intentions (and I assumed nothing), I still believe the tools you're asking for are designed explicitly for nefarious/illegal purposes:
- if you bought a router on eBay, why not ask the previous owner what the admin password was and/or perform a hard reset? Hacking the WEP key on your own device might be a legal gray area, but the technology required to do so is designed to break into secured environments (and definitely illegal).
- while it may be convenient for you to access your wife's phone via bluejacking (and yes, that may be a legal gray area), the spirit and intent of bluejacking is certainly illegal and designed for stealing bluetooth datastreams and/or voice conversations.
By the way, there is certainly work elsewhere on this site (such as hacking WM5 onto devices like the BA) which is clearly a violation of license agreements and illegal and certainly not condoned/supported by me, so don't think you're being singled out...
Bottom line: regardless of good intentions, please help keep the Hermes board out of trouble by keeping illegal content out of the discussions...
Cheers
ok fair comment sorry for the inconvenance
I don't think this tools are illegal... have seen worst things here (changing imei's for example). I work on a wireless company and we use tools like those for research, penetration testing and hardening of the networks we deploy.
Back to the original question, here's my answer:
1) For bluesnarfing and bluejacking I use btCrawler:
http://www.silentservices.de/btCrawler.html
You need to create this registry key for it to work:
\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Mode\"ISC"=1(DWORD)
2) WEP cracking with a pocket pc is a loose of time, search for "retina wifi scanner for PocketPC", it is able of doing it but will take ages to complete the process, I suggest to use aircrack-ng on a laptop with linux
hi pof. i dont know retina wifu scanner can crack wep.
thanks for the info. i search the whole internet n realise that it no longer can be downloaded. do u have a copy of it? can pm me? thanks.
Here you can download it: RetinaWiFiPoc.exe
when i execute retina wifi scanner on my dopod838pro. it said can not load device driver. if the wireless configuration utility is running, please shut it down. i already soft reset still cannot. any advice. did you try to run it on 838pro, i mean, hermes?
No, I used it some time ago with my old blueangel in wm2003, not sure if it is compatible with newer devices and I think retina discontinued the product.
yer i have already got both them progs bt is exallent but i get the same error as above with retina
but thank you very much for the reply
There is a windows version of crackair-ng, at the same place as the linux version, not sure if it's anygood though.
yer thanks i have that as well i was mainly looking for a pocket ver but it looks like ill just have to wait am sure some one will bring one out soon
First, I'm sorry for what might be an obvious question to many of you out there. I've been struggling for quite a few hours to setup my X7500 as a modem for my laptop. Most of what I've found, though, directs me to the "Modem Link" software. Although, it doesn't seem to be installed on the X7500.
The reason I'm asking this now is because Cingular/AT&T didn't have 3G in the Detroit area until recently and my Universal couldn't use it due to it's 2100Hz frequency. I know some of you have done this, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Also, I'm wondering if the Modem Link software will be in the WM6 build in the next couple of months.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
In WM6 you will have internet connection sharing, replacing the modem software. Really neat!!
There's an app on the Ameo that does just that. Two clicks / taps and you're away. Is that not included with other models of the phone?
Ant
Is the app "Modem Link?"
I'm guessing the application you're referring to is Modem Link? But unless I'm blind I haven't been able to find any reference to it on the Advantage. It looks like my best bet may be to wait until WM6 and hope HTC includes the software in it's version of the ROM upgrade.
Thanks ... also I have to say this is by far the best "PDA" I've had. Everything so far has worked very smoothly compared to my Universal, which every new piece of software was a new adventure in agony. The massive amount of memory and the large screen are much appreciated.
internet connection sharing is in wm5 too!
As Anton.Valleyman stated it takes two taps.
In the programs folder on the ameo is where it is found, and i cant see why HTC would leave it out of their wm5 rom.
If they have then that is taking the mickey!!!!
I will be out of the country without Sprint coverage, but I need my GPS to function.
Last time I went out of the country the GPS could never get a fix because the phone didn't have coverage.
Isn't there a registry setting allowing GPS functionality without phone coverage?
Thanks
Uhh, I could always get a lock when I had my phone in Flight Mode...
But then again, I'm on Verizon and not running an official sprint rom.
What ROM/Radio/etc are you using?
EDIT: But yeah, i think there is a setting (GPSMode) in the registry, which u can change from Assisted to Autonomous or whatever, where it's not Assisted GPS anymore; stand-alone mode basically
Alright sorry for the double-post, but I want to make you aware that I just tested it in Flight Mode and with certain settings, it won't lock well on the radio I'm using (3.42.40), but with the right settings, and a little bit of patience (about 2 min in my case), it will lock.
The following are my registry settings (that matter)
HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS
EnableAGPS=1
EnableGPSSmartMode=1
GPSMode=0
ServerIP=172.25.8.100
ServerPort=7788

I hope this helps you. Enjoy your trip.
I'm somewhat confused by those settings. They are probably right but it seems counter intuitive and I am trying to understand.
I would think that you'd want to EnableAGPS to be 0. Then it wouldn't try to reach the cell towers or internet site. Right? But maybe the GPSMode=0 resolves that. And if it does the IP and Port should be irrelevent. Especially if the idea is to make sure it doesn't try to connect to the internet.

Correct, I had troubles when i set EnableAGPS to 0, i think it turned off the GPS entirely.
And GPSMode=0 is autonomous mode or whatever.
For more info, see http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=28049
Cool. Thanks for the extra info. Interesting that the EnableAGPS=0 breaks stuff...
Forums are much more interesting when people are willing to actually talk and not drop into Defensiveniess/flamewars instantly! I appreciate your response.

You're welcome. I was willing to do it after I backed up because I was having strange GPS issues the past few days and I wanted to see if I could get things rolling normally again. Someone said that this mode works better for geocaching too, so that's another reason why I wanted to try it.
Now I just need to find a better selection of software for my device; I'm still not happy with HTC Home, need to find a good replacement that doesn't rape the screen in landscape mode.
My home wireless router and my PC are just close enough to connect, but the signal is a bit poor. Sure I could fix this in a whole number of ways, but I was wondering (as you do) could I use my X1 as an network extender? Essentially using it as a bridge between my PC and router to get a better signal?
Anyone know if any software of this nature has been developed?
yes and also as oven and fridge
i don't think is possible but anyway im not sure
thanks for the (not very) helpful reply. i know you can get software to turn the x1 into an access point (using the mobile connection for internet access) so im guessing its only one stage on from there to make the x1 perform the same functinality but connected to a wireless AP instead of the mobile networ kand thus acting as a bridge.
Why don't you buy an network bridge instead of using your phone as one. A cheaper one is no more than a SD card.
I don't know, but it's kinda dumb task to do for a phone... even if the phone is able to complete the task.

Because, as I said in my first post, there are loads of ways of solving this problem but I was wondering if it is possible and if anyone has done it.
Sure I could go out and do the boring thing and buy a bridge but then I would never gain any knowledge about the subject and engage in discussions with other people that think the same way.
You go ahead and solve your problems the easy way - by purchasing a mass made box. Me - I want to find out more about how things work and what is and isn't possible, not because it's the easiest or best solution, but because I like to learn.
Hi
I guess it could be possible theorically
im not in knowledge of any sw to do that
But anyway i think even if there is a sw the thing is that if you want it
just for fun is ok but using it as a real bridge it can drain the battery of X1 in few hours and the phone could get very hot ...
So maybe for practical use the box should be better
good luck
wmwifirouter could help?!
regards
wmwifirouter
yeah i think wmwifirouter is the right thing for you.
