Is there anyway to use the touch screen as a scale? I mean is there a program that will let you measure the pressure your "finger" incurs on the screen? Now there has to be a way to convert that to grams/ounces. I would imagine that it would take a certain amount to even activate the digitizer and it could very well be the equivalent to a minimum of .5g and that's fine with me. An operating range from .5-5g would be optimal.
I just thought this would be very useful.
i believe that there is a point og g to activate
and thats if
a timer deside when the contex menu come about
normal touch screens even pasive digtizers on tablet pc's
only do on and off registration
active digitizerts on tablets though support preasure measuring
That's your idea of an "ultimate application"? More like the fastest way to break your screen

I believe it to be one of the ultimate applications because it transforms your phone into something completely different silmutaneously increasing it's resourcefulness as a digital "swiss army knife" for the modern world. What other application does that (short of a TV remote)?
Are you familiar with the force of 5 grams? I don't believe you are or you wouldn't think it would break your screen. I guarantee that you put, on average, at least 8 grams of pressure everytime you touch your screen.

Wouldn't all your Coke get stuck at the corners of the screen
haha u read the words outa my mouth ;x that would be gangster tho
Alternatively you could try making some scales into a phone.
Haha, i realize 5g is very light...But as mentioned above the only thing I can think of that would be useful to weigh between .5 and 5g would be some white powdery substance
Otherwise, if I new it was less than 5g, I wouldn't weigh it. Problem is someone might try to weigh something much heavier and yes, break the screen
Or I could replace and reinforce the external GPS antenna cover and make it a bottle opener also.
Or I could program it to emit the proper frequency to start my "keyless" car key.
Anyways, this is all just for fun, so, don't worry, I'm not trying to tweak you.

Now you're onto it. The possibilities are endless. I give it another 5 years before we see similar applications. Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston right now is already texting barcodes as boarding passes that can be scanned.

Oh, oregano! Makes sense with your screen name being Chef
A little more green? Smokin a little herb are we? Or are we selling?
I think we're onto something here. We need better touchscreens that can handle more force.
Imagine the perfect windows mobile diet phone which can tell you how much weight you've put on, find you a diet plan online. And order a pizza when it can tell you don't care anymore.
Who cares about fingertip scrolling when we finally bring the phone into the real world and make it fix other problems too.
I think a built-in stun device would be cool. And a personal alarm. A decent torch. A proper flash camera with a zoom feature. Maybe we make the zoom strong enough and big enough to take a person's weight. Who needs stepladders anymore!
I think a built in printer could help but needs to support full A4 sheets. Maybe it can scroll up and down a page until it's printed. And can we adjust the camera so it can act like a proper scanner? A portable colour photocopier is born!
I'll stop there but as you can see, the possibilities with this magical device are amazing!
LOL
i really think theres no such thing as ultimate application
i really depend on how this application will help your needs and so that way it will be very useful
peace

It should of course be able to monitor ovulation, blood pressure, heart rate (full ECG), blood oxigen level, blood sugar level, prothrombin ratio and last, not least my need for coffee.
And my next SIP should read my mind. Voice control and T9 are a bit old fashioned, right?
I want a phone that also works as a lightsaber.
if you smoked the "oregano"
all applications you come up with seem ultimate
and all old cake leftovers taste like the best thing in the world
(or so i've been led to believe...)
You are better off getting to know your “oregano” and learn to estimate the weight accurately. Maybe if you would need this for “sugar” or “brown sugar”, weighting something under 5g’s would be in some use.

and why do you need to weigh grams on your phone?
I had a debate with my friend last nite if it was possible or not. I say it is with resistive touch screens... Can someone prove me right? it only needs to measure oooh, say a few grams
Id imagine the only thing that would keep our TP2 from measuring weight is the lack of multi-touch.

LOL I think I can picture exactly the creative process and environmental variables that led to this question...I'm surprised that nobody else has had that same "hey...what if!" moment already
I think the obstacle here is that resistive screens generally can identify one 'peak point' of pressure, and can track it's movement, but I don't know if they could do anything with weight that is spread across the screen. So, you'd have to measure out...whatever...into something about the size of a thimble, but weighing much less. I'm not saying that it's entirely not possible, but it would have to be done some other way than just setting some substance directly on the screen (unless it was compact enough that it only created one pressure point...)
Honestly I'd really love to see this too. Not just for the obvious use, but also because it would be great to have for the next "yeah, well, can your phone do this" competition I find myself in
Can your phone keep your dealer honest? I KNOW there's not an app for that!

Great information!!
that same question was raised back 3-4 years ago when i had my tilt (1) kaiser. It would be handy at times such app...
Yeah, if somebody figured it out I'd pay them a visit shortly after harvest with the shiny kind.
that would def be a app to have! id show some love for a working version that could weigh up to 4 ounces(quarter pound)... with a changeable standard, grams or oz... mmmm.... what were we talkin about again? lol
haha, Seems like theres a real demand from the erm... "Community." The big question is it is possible on a resistive screen that DOESNT have multitouch? Devs, we're lookin at yous
http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/dual-touch-sdk-for-resistive-screens-v1-0-beta/
multitouch?
Yes we would all love multitouch and in the future windowsphone7 will support it. When I made the SuperMarioBros. for windows mobile it didnt support Multitouch which some people had problems with , but got used to it after a while. You would have to let go of a button in order to press next button. I look forward to multi-touch as I will be able to create games of more depth.
Physical:
- Speaker phone doesn't work -- at all!
- Keyboard rubs, plastic on plastic will be worn out soon and look ****ty
- Light leak above menu keys on the sides
- Track pad isn't consistent. Mostly it's correct in direction swipe.
- GPS takes a while to locate but is usually very precise.
- Keyboard has non-intuitive layout.
Software:
- Messages (text) constantly has "1 message" or more displayed permanently
- MyFaves duplicates notifications and is ****ty to look at.
- Google Sky Maps doesn't focus properly
- Can't remove some applications
- No "Link All" contacts with Twitter/FB
- No way to reprogram "MyFave" button to another program.
Phone Recommendation: Avoid this phone.
updated:
Physical:
- Installing and Uninstalling a different speaker phone app has "enabled" it, for me at least.
- Light leak is really, really bad. Can see light through the side of the shell (near buttons).
- No dust in my phone, daily use. I don't really spend much time in dusty areas.
- Track pad still inconsistent
- GPS is amazingly accurate. Down to the address (not a range).
- Keyboard is still feeling awkward. After 3 weeks I'm still not used to it.
Software:
- Same problems.
New Discoveries:
Software:
- Contacts manager for text messaging shows multiples of EACH contact, including the "Linked" together contacts. I'm seeing 8 entries for a person with 2 contact numbers.
- Auto Orientation doesn't work when the screen is closed for "HOME" screen.

Ha! So your G1 is superior? Atleast you can still return the phone! Btw take everyone off of your faves thing and it won't go off, and try ending it with an app manager. Speaker phone is just as low in any of the non rooted phones with out the audio mod. Same with the not being able to remove apps. The sliding gets a lot better. The messaging thing has been posted in the bugs thread. You can use handcent if it bothers you too much or if I recall there was a widget app that does the same thing but changes the icon, but I bet it has its quirks too.
Physical:
- Speaker phone doesn't work -- at all! No problems with mine here.. maybe you got a defective one
- Keyboard rubs, plastic on plastic will be worn out soon and look ****ty it goes away after a bit. I have strong doubts that it will ever leave physical marks on anything important
- Light leak above menu keys on the sides Come on... really? If that little bit bothers you, maybe you're just better off not owning a phone.
- Track pad isn't consistent. Mostly it's correct in direction swipe. I'll give you this one. It's not the best feature thats for sure
- GPS takes a while to locate but is usually very precise. Mine has always been quick and dead accurate
- Keyboard has non-intuitive layout. I went from a G1 to a Cliq to this phone, and this one has the best HWK of the 3, in my opinion.
Software:
- Messages (text) constantly has "1 message" or more displayed permanently Use Handcent. It allows much more flexibility and customization anyways.
- MyFaves duplicates notifications and is ****ty to look at. MyFaves sucks, don't use it if you don't like it.
- Google Sky Maps doesn't focus properly It's a lousy app and I've never seen it properly display anything on any Android phone I've used it on.
- Can't remove some applications Get used to it. Even on vanilla Android you can't remove useless apps.
- No "Link All" contacts with Twitter/FB Mine linked most of mine automatically, and the ones that weren't automatic were easy and quick to do.
- No way to reprogram "MyFave" button to another program. I'm sure it will come with root.
Phone Recommendation: Avoid this phone. Go ahead and return it and keep your G1. I'll take the Slide over just about ANY Android phone out right now.

turboyo pretty much said the same thing, but I figured I would reiterate it for you. I'm tired of people *****ing on here about this phone and this or that or what not. You're one of those people that would buy any phone and immediately post on a forum every diminutive little issue you find. It's a brand new phone. It's bound to have bugs. If you can't deal with that, don't buy it, or wait 6 months to buy it.
I wonder if it would make most people feel better about the phone if they were forced to use an old Startac handset for a week.
x2 on the sliding getting better over time
at first it scared me and i almost thought i had a defective unit but either its better or i just got used to sliding it out.
All the issues and bugs that are being reported, I have not had any. So far the slide has been my best phone. No complains here.
If you drag out a new message shortcut out of the launcher and onto the home screen where your current message widget is it clears out the number. then discard the shortcut..

Don't read a complaint thread if you're tired of it.
Yes, I am unsatisfied with a light leak, the sliding, the software errors, the gps, the star maps. These are the perks of this phone. I didn't pay to be a beta tester. I expect my phone to look and function properly.
My G1 didn't get wild with star maps or gps. Wouldn't we progress forward after 2 years?
Do you go buy a brand new car that has a dent or scratch on it and just pay full price -- not complaining?
Man I had a g1 on launch day and used it up until I got this phone. I loved the g1 and I love this phone, My only complaint has to do with just relearning on a 4 row keyboard as opposed to a 5 row, and really my only prob is the tab key is where my thumb feels the a key should be so I keep having to backspace but I'll live.
I almost didn't order this phone thinking a "better" sliding qwerty phone was coming but as nothing solid was on the horizon I went ahead. Super happy with the purchase.

90% of what you're talking about here is topical, and more than likely jsut your phone impaticular. Do you go buy a brand new car and complain about the car as a whole just beacuse of a few scratches and dents and tell people to go buy anotehr car beacuse of it? No, you take it back and either have it fixed, or you get a replacement,
Physical:
- Speaker phone doesn't work -- at all! Ive used my speaker phone more than Ive used it regularly, the volume cant be maxed out or it gets a tad distorted, however, if it doesnt work "at all" your phone is defective.
- Keyboard rubs, plastic on plastic will be worn out soon this is fact and look ****ty this is...fortuine telling? Ive heavly used my slide, and the noise is already gone, and doesnt look "****ty"
- Light leak above menu keys on the sides again, I see no signs of this, and I use the phone a lot, I even just took it out just now and looked at it from all angles, your phone really may be defective.
- Track pad isn't consistent. Mostly it's correct in direction swipe. Ill somewhat agree with this, my issue with it is that the track pad is a rectangle....but its facing the wrong direction when the keboard is slid out, which is 90% of the time when it would be in use. That was just bad engineering.
- GPS takes a while to locate but is usually very precise. In the City (Chicago) in the outer suburbs, and out in the boondocks 3 hrs away, it locates just as fast as my Garmin and my TomTom
- Keyboard has non-intuitive layout. Im not sure why they at least didn't shade down either the Letters or Numbers. They could have done without thw home key, he menu key, the tab key and made them slightly larger. But thats all really nitpicking, as Ive pretty much already gotten used to the keyboard.
Software:
- Messages (text) constantly has "1 message" or more displayed permanently Defective
- MyFaves duplicates notifications and is ****ty to look at. Why are you useing MyFaves?
- Google Sky Maps doesn't focus properly Cant comment, dont have it.
- Can't remove some applications Are you new?
- No "Link All" contacts with Twitter/FB I also hate that my phone doesnt make me toast in the morning. I mean, I paid good money for this thing.
- No way to reprogram "MyFave" button to another program. That kinda pissed me off, making it a definite part of the UI was pure Tmo duchebagery
Phone Recommendation: Seriously may want to return your phone and get one that works as it should
I have never had a "perfect" car to drive, nor have I ever even seen or heard of one. I'm pretty sure if they made one it would be called a Rolls Royce and be expensive as hell. If I wanted to be critical I could go with the old "why is it not waterproof and babysit when I wanna go out and drink beer with the guys". Five years ago this phone was out of everyones ability to even manufacture. I hear complaints at work all day, but it an extremely rare occasion when someone offers a solution. My motto is "if you don't like it, fix it". Or at the very least, look for someone who has.
ok The only issue I really have is I used Handcent SMS on my g1 but I can NOT find it in the app market with this phone. I did a search on both the G1 and the Slide. The sreach brought up the exact same results only Handcent SMS was listed on the G1 search results and NOT listed on the slide one. Anyone have an idea behind this at all?

Ah, there you go. I was forgetting the biggest one to hate. And yeah I guess I retract my previous statement. I can't hate Android for what Motorola effed up.
Just got my MT3G Slide yesterday; it is really a GREAT phone. Not sure what's going on with the poster's phone but mine has absolutely none of those issues. Kinda makes me wonder if he/she even has one. Buyer's remorse is there for a reason and I would not hesitate to return the Slide if i didn't think it was an absolute upgrade from the G1, MT3G, Cliq or CliqXT. I am a hardcore G1 root user and I was EXTREMELY skeptical of this phone; I am a skeptic no longer. I'm not even worried about root as I have no immediate need for an ad-hoc data tether nor any real desire for flashing experimental ROM's. Best phone I've ever owned, hands down.
I picked the slide up Monday and I love it so far.
I have noticed the light leaking through the bottom of the case, when I am in a dark room. But that doesn't bother me, I've seen this on other decives as well.
The speed of this phone is very impressive, even with all the crap that Tmobile put on it out of the box! But I would like to root this phone so I can get rid of the stuff I am not using. Just bothers me having it there.
I just posted this on the AT&T Note forum thread if this is considered a duplicate the moderators are free to delete one.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/0...-pen-promises-even-more-features-galaxy-note/
Damn i was talking about patenting this like 2 weeks ago. Use the stylus as a handset. Charge when inserted into phone for storage. Microphone in tip, speaker in top. Geeze. O well
The only thing is, web sites have moaned about the G-Note looking funny when people hold them up to their head to make phone calls. Just wait until people start talking into what looks like an ink pen. People will freak out at first but I can at least imagine it becoming trendy. Perhaps you could just park it on top of your ear like everyone has seen someone doing with a pencil. School kids would love the stealthy phone. Teachers wouldn't even notice until the word got around. Other kids might start hanging real ink pens on their ears to make it look like they had a cool phone too. I can imagine lots of funny scenarios if this thing actually comes to market. I hope it does.

google say that the "screen wont distract you but eff that it will also this is one expensive death root
I thinks it is more dangerous to look at your smartphone while crossing streets or driving your car and so on. If the userinterface is realy like the one shown in Googles newest video (see below) I don't think it is distracting.

The same was said for car stereos and GPS units. They are all a distraction.
HUD(Heads Up Display) has been used successfully for years.

lol i feel like my eyes would do this after wearing these. and then i imagine the movie THEY LIVE . "put on the glasses!"
I honestly think it will be a bit distracting..
but not to the point where it is as distracting as looking at your phone and doing other things.
but it does kinda add another level of multitasking to your everyday lives. lol
anything can distract you: a noise, a bird, even a pretty woman. it depends on you and you lack of attention. i dont believe it can be that dangerous. maybe i change my mind when i get one

It seems to me that everyone gets worked up when new technology comes out. People say its going to hurt our economy, kill people, make people fat. that has not stopped most people from getting products from this. yea I'm sure 4 or 5 people are going to get hit by a car with this product on, and I'm sure google is going to come out with a safety feature that stops notifications when crossing a road or something. The thing is i know you want one you just want to rag on it a little to see what people have to say about it before you go off and spend a but load of money on it and this information will give you ideas on the essay you need to actually buy one.
It won't be distracting. We always adapt to different technologies...if this was seriously a problem, I don't think AH-64 Apache pilots would have the best track record now would they.

yes. i tought so man.
its cool. but if only can take pic, take video, search , etc. ( like what they reveal now )
i think $1500 abit pricy for this thing
I love the idea of these, but i don't think i'd wear them all the time. They'd be great when flying, especially if you could connect them to an ADSB system and other instruments on the aircraft. A cheap HUD for pilots, showing the horizon (from the proper gyro system), and showing colour coded icons where other aircraft are, etc. The same could be done when driving, i guess, and hiking etc.
I suppose walking through the city with these would be better than walking head-down nose buried in a smartphone, as everyone does now. But i don't know if i would use them in the city. Maybe if they looked like Spider Jerusalem's glasses i might...
Google Glass will revolutionize the world
This has been long overdue. I think they will be safer than cell phones. The voice recognition will take refining; but for the most part, this is an awesome step forward in technology.
You worry warts will see how nice it is when you actually get to use it.
The more I see people with their cell phones while walking, driving, and eating, the more I see the sense in glass and how I really feel like the idea in general will boom. Just like Google started the 7 inch standard, they are starting the glass tech trend
