Back door email setup: - G1 General

just wondering if there is a way to backdoor setup an email account. as some of you may know, the G1 has some kind of pop up that comes up when trying to setup emails.
something like SPAMHAUS or something. anyone ever get this?
anyway to backdoor or turn off the filter for that, or something?

Manual email setup (was: back door email setup)
To bypass the account setup wizard in android mail, and configure the account manually, you can use the 'Manual Setup' button.
To get there click 'Next' when you are prompted 'Welcome to email setup .... email accounts in two steps'.
On the next screen, the 'Manual setup' button appears at the bottom left of the screen. The 'Manual setup' button is disabled until you enter an email address and password.

I always use the manual way anyway. That's not what I'm asking for. Because the wizard still does silly things for certain accounts. So I was trying to see if there is a way to bypass all of that and do it thru root.

Is anyone else here having trouble setting up there yahoo account on the new jf 1.5 adp? It keeps coming up as wrong user and account. I don't have yahoo plus, but this worked just fine on jf rc33. If anyone knows what the put in the manual set up that would be cool if its even possible.

I remember reading some sort of disclaimer when you first set up the yahoo account on RC33 that you can only access your yahoo free account if you are a Tmobile customer... maybe since the 1.5 is currently ADP, it won't let you into the free yahoo account unless you have the tmobile version. Just a thought.

Mine used to act this way when I had the standard T-Mobile RC33 OTA. Ever since rooting, I've been able to access my Yahoo email just fine, even though i DON'T have Yahoo Plus.

what does this mean? it only happens after i hit continue for the Outgoing mail server:
SETUP COULD NOT FINISH
cannot connect to server.
(550-5.7.1 Hello [24.161.12.151]; If you feel we mistreat you, do contact us.-5.7.1 Hello [24.161.12.151]; Ask HELP for our contact information. 5.7.1 Hello [24.161.12.151]; http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=24.161.12.151)
anyone have any idea what this is?

bump for an answer?

Hey dude, I was having same problem and just found this. It worked:
From T-MO forums.
I had the same issue and a rep from T-Mobile G1 tech support sent me this. Hope it helps.

3. Tap Next.
4. Enter the e-mail address and password.

Scroll down and select Next.
* The device searches for incoming server information.
#
1. From Outgoing server settings, set the following:

E-mail (gmail) on a non standard port?

On my Prophet I would like to use my Gmail next to my Hotmail account. I've enabled POP in my Gmail account and I tried to set it up on the phone. However, Gmail requires usage of port 995 for pop and 465 for smtp. There is no setting for the port on the Prophet. I tried inputting pop.gmail.com:995 and smtp.gmail.com:465 for the servers but that made no difference (it 'connects' but asks me for my login info while 'loggin on...' and yes I've tried it with and without @gmail.com and retyped my password several times).
Does anybody have a work around? Or.. an option I've missed? Or.. an hack to make it possible to use a different port? Or.. a name of an e-mail application that works on Windows Mobile that provides this feature?
Here, this is the way to set up GMail:
In the Server Information, click Option, and in the "Require SSL connection" box, check/enabled that option. Also, below it, check "outgoing mail requires authentication."
With these two enabled, GMail will work fine.
One last thing, you can only select "Get message header only". If you select get entire mail, once you download your mail to your PPC, you cannot download the mail anymore in your desktop via Pop3.
For Wifi connection, I would recommend you specify larger size of header to download, I use the max 999 KB of message body.
For slower connection like GPRS, I set mine to only download 10 KB of message body.
Hope this helps.
That's weird.. I tried what you propose but as I said it would keeps asking me for my login information? Since those are correct I assumed it was due to the fact that I didnt set the right port number anywhere?
Anything I'm overlooking here then?
Not sure what you miss. I will recommend you just delete that mail box and re-create it again. If it does prompt you for login information, I guess there is a chance you typed the wrong pwd.
But it should work fine. You can use your login without the @gmail.com
Does it work for you? On your Prophet?
Here's what I do @ Outlook E-mail:
* Menu | Tools | New account
* Enter e-mail address: flyingd*[email protected]
* Auto configuration (never goes past Download..) --> Next
* Your name: Full Name
Username: flyingd*tchman [or] flyingd*[email protected]
Password: Password (includes one capital)
* Account type: POP3
Name: gmail
* Incoming mail: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail: smtp.gmail.com
Domain:
* Options
Connection: The Internet (= T-Mobile GPRS)
Checked SSL connection
Checked outgoing mail requires authentication
* Finish
Then it goes 'connecting' followed by 'loggin on..' and it keeps asking me for my incoming E-mail username and password?
yes, i just verified my config with yours, line per line.
I have also my password saved there, and limit to 10KB header of message to download over the GPRS link.
Um, this is not a free solution, but you can also use Flexmail 2007, which is an excellent client and supports port changing and everything under the sun.
Does everything under the sun include checking for new e-mail say every minute and reporting new e-mail to the 'today' screen?
It can check for new email every minute.
It doesn't have a Today screen plugin which is one of the main faults of the program, I guess. However, it has the ability to stay minimized in the System tray next to the Wifi icon and it has the ability to notify on each new email so I guess it can tell you when you have new email.
I don't check for my mail every minute and usually use it with my Wifi connection so its perfect for me.
But it can do those things which you mentioned

Exchange 2010 Push Mail W/ Outlook Anywhere,Alias's, POP Forwarding, NOW w/ POP3/IMAP

Last Name or Initial:
E-Mail address requested: [email protected]ztek.com
Alias: [email protected]

For those of you from now on, I will require a $5 monthly donation to setup an account (this will be done through a subscription and paypal). I feel this is a fair amount for whoever wishes to donate. I will keep the old link for those that wish to donate above what I already ask for.
It will include an alias and Outlook anywhere access (use Outlook with this account). With each account you can have an alias setup so that your recipents see your email address as anything you like! Also, for an extra $5 per account I can automatically forward your pop3 or IMAP e-mail to your new exchange account.
Go to http://zteknology.com/paypal.html to make your donation. Make sure to use the subscription link.
The Outlook Web Address is now https://mail.getztek.com/owa/.
So if you like the service and feel that you can contribute, please send paypal payments to [email protected]. Anything helps, even if it is just $1.
If you do not know what Exchange 2010 is or offers, please google it before making any decisions about e-mailing me.
Also, please give me at least 24 hours to set up your accounts once I receive your information. Usually it will be far less than 24 hours. Thanks.
MOST IMPORTANT: do NOT e-mail me directly. All communications about Exchange 2010 must go through PM. If I receive an e-mail I will simply ignore it. This is done to simplify everything. When I have to spend extra time to figure out if you e-mailed me or PMed me, it just slows me down and e-mail's are easier to lose. Thanks for your cooperation.
Here's the setup info...I feel it's pretty thorough, but if anyone wants to add anything just let me know.

Can I be the first to say thankyou to Denial for this service! Just re setting up all my stuff, but from what I've seen of the new OWA it looks really good!
Thanks!
EDIT: Can you please turn off enforcing security policies on mobile devices (eg PDA's). I don't want to need to have a password when I switch on my phone everytime.

I plan on the service being around for a long time seeing as how I use it myself. At some point I might have to close registrations if I run out of accounts I can give out., but the service should keep on tickin'.
Trying to setup my mailbox again after the upgrade, but it seems the exchange server doesn't support connections using entourage 2004 (mac outlook) anymore?

I just forward one of my pop3 e-mail accounts to my exchange account. I'm not sure if this is what you are asking. There is no way for the Exchange server to automatically download pop3 mails from, say gmail. You have to forward those e-mail's.

Actually, there are third party connectors you can use, such as POPcon, to pull POP3 and IMAP email. Apparently you can also use Fetchmail to accomplish the same thing. I'm attempting to set that up right now for myself.

EDIT: meant to add this works fine for IE just not in Opera.
same problem here. I get logged on but can't click on the inbox. Does someone know the solution for Opera? (except IE).
i have the same annoying problem!
but then again, will stick back to IE for hotmails..
same here. I can't even log on or register my details through the touch flo tab. is there an apple rights type thing going on here?
Have you guys tried to open in another tab??
Grtz,
Degake
ive tried setting hotmail up throught tf3d and it allows the username and password, then it says settings found, please click next to continue, but as i do, it take me to mobile.live.com rather than the next step??
anyone know whats going wrong?
I had the same problem, so I did a back up, and a hard reset, to wipe everything, and when I came to set up my email hotmail account, it works just fine now.. I get the messages as they arrive..
so after the reset you were able to continue the registration and settings without it directing you to windows live page?
unless you enter an alternative email provider it won't let me enter settings manually
Yes. First I had the emails downloading to my phone, and showing in the inbox.. Then for some reason, I messed it up and tried to re set up an account, and every time I was being directed online to Windows live page..
I did a hard reset, not a soft reset.. It tells you how to do it on the HTC support page. That wipes everything off the phone, so make sure you back up any information or programs you want.
After I reset the phone , I tried my hotmail account again, and it works fine..
ok thanks very much. been reluctant to do the hard reset as its taken forever to customize and tweak to my liking. and that's just the shortcut menus.
here goes...
Hope it works for you like it did me..
and I kinda enjoyed tweaking mine and getting it set up again.
Good luck. let me know how it goes.
ive only just done a hard reset because i could install Framework 3.5, it there any other way to setup hotmail again, registry edit maybe?
also how do you get them delivered straight to your phone, a friend of mine who also has a HD says you have to manually sync.
did you guys know that you can set up hotmail into your mail tab now yeah?
to set it up, go to the mail tab > Menu > Accounts > New Account
when asked to enter your email address, enter your hotmail address, but with an error after the "@" sign. for example, if my email addy was "[email protected]", i would enter it as "[email protected]" (notice there is no "l" in "hotmail.com"). Enter your hotmail log-in password here as well.
Insert your name as you would like to appear on outgoing messages, and an account display name to show for your own navigation (mines is simply called "Hotmail", since i only use one hotmail account).
For the incoming mail server: pop3.live.com
Account type POP3
your username will be your hotmail email address (the correct version this time), and your normal password, as you would enter on the hotmail login page.
For outgoing mail: smtp.live.com
tweak other/advanced settings to your liking (and data plan - orange UK data plans suck).
Once you've set your account up, click on Start (top left corner) > Messaging > [your hotmail account] > Edit Account Setup. Now correct your emaill address that you originally inserted incorrectly, and continue pressing next till you get to the end.
Now your hotmail should be working fine.. no need to use opera at all

hi. I followed this advice from another thread which I can't find now.
but after I do all that and I go to Menu > Send Receive, there is an error in syncing and have to check my connection settings.
where am I going wrong?
in the process of backing up atm..
if your trying to do send/receive through TF3d, you can try doing send/receive through windows itself (i.e. go to start > messaging > hotmail > menu > send/receive)
see if that works. if it works fine, then automatic updates should work fine as well. I also get an error sometimes while trying to update via TF3D (only on hotmail), but it works fine if i do an update through windows.
phew! thanks for all suggestions so far. managed to set up using wifi. works perfectly.
problem is.. it only works with wifi.
when I attempt to send/receive through my t mobile connection it says I have to check my service provider etc. which I'll probably do tomoz

Yahoo Mail on ADP build?

If you have a T-Mobile build, even modified on a rooted phone whether it's hero, hyk or jf, signing up to yahoo mail in the email app is cake. Takes seconds and you are done and set up. Push yahoo mail!!
It says, during set up, "Yahoo mail is free with T-Mobile....blah blah"
Change to an ADP build, STILL T-Mobile, and yahoo mail DOES NOT work??
Any idea on how to get Yahoo mail to work with an ADP build?
Here are the steps you need.
1. open up email
2. tap next
3. enter email address and password
4. hit manual setup
5. tap ok when the free yahoo! mail accounts only work over t-mobile wireless networks. yahoo! mail plus users should configure POP settings manually. message appears.
6. tap IMAP account.
7. from incoming server settings, set the following.
8. IMAP Server Field: imap.mail.yahoo.com
9. port: 143 (by default)
10. security type: TLS (if available)
11. scroll down and select next.
12. The device searches for incoming server info
13. from outgoing server settings, set the following
14. SMTP server field: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
15. port: 25
16. security type: TLS (if available)
17. scroll down and select next
18. the device searches for outgoing server info
19. note that account options display and allow you to select how foten to check for email, set notifications, and check default setting account.
20. enter the account a name
21. hit done
easy
Thx!! That is working, at least partially. It let me set it up using the email app, but still has login issues, lots of username/password incorrect issues. BUT... it is working well enough to say that the solution you posted is at least one solution.
I've also set a bookmark using the browser for mobile yahoo mail that works too, just doesn't notify of new emails.
Thx!!

Cannot Connect to yahoo Mail on G1 using Hero. And No sound from speaker.

I have
G1
FW 1.5
MLIGN-HeroV3.0
I can't log into yahoo mail.
does it have something to do with a port? it's on port. 995.
And when I play music, it plays from the speaker that you hear from.
Not the one in the back.
Do you have Yahoo's paid service or just using the free version of yahoo mail? If you don't pay for the extra upgrade you can't get yahoo emails on your phone.

Midnight scarab, The reason why you are getting this message is if you chose TLS (Always). I tested it with that setting and got the same message "TLS required but not supported by server". Try it again hope that helps.

Psychoace, the only thing I know of that would cause the invalid username or password is having the wifi connection turned on. The initial setup needs to be done over a 3G connection. If that does not work let me know and I will try to help you out some more..
Thanks a TON! As always I searched all over but should have came to XDA in the first place
