Using HTC Touch HD and a modem - Networking

Hi all,
Just a quick question:
I've got my Touch HD connected to a laptop via USB cable.
I selected "Internet Sharing / Use phone as a modem" when prompted and the Windows Vista installed some software / drivers.
Is this all I have to do to use my phone as the modem? No other software required?
I just need to get some basic internet access when out on the road!
Cheers
Lee

Cixi,
I had the same request and was actually coming back to my original post to update it with the information that i got from O2 and finally I managed to set up for oth a USB modem connection and a USB one. I have attached the USB Modem driver but saved as a .txt file so you will have to open it in note pad and rename it as a .INF file (can also be found on the companion CD that shipped with your Atom) to this post (if uploading allows).
Below are the detailed instructions from O2 to set up a USB connection.
Regards
Chris.

And as Kropotov points out, he was very helpful in assisting me on the previous post that he references above and that i was coming back to update prior to seeing your post.
Attached is the set up instructions for BT Modem link.
Diffence is that with USB modem the connection is of course faster than BT. Also your phone can still accept phone calls while your using the USB modem link but go straight to your Voice mail if your using the BT modem connection.
Thank You All.
Do you think it will work with MacBook Pro too?
I left the Atom at home and now I'm around so I can't try your settings in windoz but as soon as I get back I try them so I can tell you more.
I prefer BT communications since I can swap between PC and MAC easly
Thank You anyway great persons here.

Hi, you don't need to install anything, just plug your atom via usb cable and run internet sharing application, tap connect then it should be a usb modem.
How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet
How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet by using Vista
any idea?
Why All That?
Read first post and was thinking why you need to connect your Atom Life as modem with manual setting while its just one click away
Assuming A) you have GPRS connection and phone data settings are working as told by GSM provider, you can browse on your phone.
Assuming B) On your pc/laptop you must have installed either ActiveSync 4.2 (WinXP) or later or Mobile_Device_Centre in any version of Vista and you are able to connect your phone to pc. NO NEED TO DISABLE, KEEP THEM WORKING.
If you are ready with above two things, just do one following step.
Step 1) Start >> Programms >> Internet Sharing >> Connect. THATS ALL, YOU ARE ALREADY BROWSING ON YOUR PC.
Only two options are seen in INTERNET SHARING, first to select is USB and second is your GPRS connection profile.
Someone please tell me why all those manual things are required, just for browsing on pc/laptop.
thanks
thank you very much!

Modem Link Driver for Wizard?!?!

Hello,
I tried to run the Modem Link application in the program files folder in my HTC Wizard (imate kJam) but when I connect it via USB, it asks for a driver, I wonder where can I get the drivers for that?
Currently I am using Bluetooth to connect to GPRS (i-e use GPRS on my computer) but I think connecting via USB might speed it up.
Please help, thank you.
yeah. the driver is inside the installation cd that came w/your phone. You can also find there a modem dialer program.

You need to install USB tool in Window mobile and install activesyc 4.5 above on your XP. once you need to connect your 3G you must tap internet sharing on your WM to connect the internet at your XP thru USB tool.
Hi anuarmu, thx for reply.
1) I went through all procedure to "liberate" my htc
2) I used usb tool to enable.
3) Unfortunately I get error on "“Generic RNDIS" and Windows Mobile-Based Device; windows xp doesn't find driver. (I also tried to installa usb switch to use serial but surfing the web via windows xp it does not work!!)
Can you please help me ?
Hi!
I had the same problem but eventually resolved it.
Just try to download and install Microsft ActiveSync 4.5 from Microsoft's website and you wont have to install the Generic RDNIS drivers.
It will install automatically.
Cheers!

Iolite XDA Guide Windows Drivers Needed

Hello
I have an O2 XDA Guide - also known as Iolite - also known as Touch Cruise 09 or Touch Cruise 2 !!!
I need the windows drivers for this mobile phone. It works automatically on my laptop (running Win XP) and my PC (running Windows 7) but I wanted to use the internet connection sharing option on somebody else's laptop yesterday and it wouldn't download the device drivers from windows update automatically.
Therefore, I was hoping somebody could point me to where I can download the required XP and Win 7 drivers from or could post the drivers to this forum. I can then put them on the phone's memory card and will be able to install them to any laptop I want to use Internet Connection Sharing on.
Many thanks, Paul
Hi!
You need activesync installed to use the network sharing function. It will not work without that.

internet sharing

please help
im using my hd2 as a modem with usb connection , everything goes well , my phone get connect to gprs , my pc (WINDOWS 7) connect but no internet acsses.
whats the problem
Do you use the function "internet sharing"? It´s the easiest way to do what you want. Using it as modem via USB is not very practical...
