Hi
I was wondering how to know if WiFi has priority over 3G when its enabled because I notice when I have WiFi enabled and do send and receive in my outlook it's turning on the data connection option in connectivity (thats 3G I'm guessing) and downloading stuff. Ideally I'd like it to use the WiFi if its enabled but am not sure if it is?
Can someone clarify please!
Thanks
I'd like to know the answer to this too.
The only solution I've found which is quite crap to be honest is to set up a fake dummy connection or go
All settings > Connections tab > Connections > Advanced tab > Select Networks
Then choose My ISP or anything that doesn't have a modem connection defined. You'll then have to turn on wifi whenever you want to access the net. This isn't exactly ideal to be honest.
From what I've found out today and from searching on here is that it's the windows mobile live client has got it built in to prioritize GPRS/3G etc over Wifi ...
utter crap so I looked up alternate ways to get hotmail you can use pop3 and stuff but not sure it will sync like IMAP does, but that's the only solution I've found for now. So change the network connection to something other than mobile web when you're on wifi then change it to mobile web when you're on the streets etc and don't have wifi access.
Must be a better way though??? There's been so many people ask this on this forum and everyone of them got half arsed replies.
Outlook plus pop is ok, that is it use wifi if it is available and 3G otherwise. The problem is on hotmail accessed using windows live.
I found a solution in using HTTPMail provider 1.5 to access hotmail (it is not free but cheap enough). You can find it googling around.
I read reports around about problems during installation so I simply extracted the files (HTTPMail.dll, MIME.dll, HTTPTransport.dll and HTTPMailReg.exe) from the cab and copied them under \windows, registered manually HTTPMail.dll, MIME.dll and HTTPTransport.dll using regsvr_arm.exe (you can find it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=80255&d=1207768826) and registered the software using HTTPMailReg.exe
After installation an hotmail account can be created using this procedure.
Open Inbox
Tap Accounts and choose "New Account"
Enter your a fake e-mail address (not hotmail, otherwise windows live kiks in) and tap Next
Skip auto configuration (otherwise windows live kiks in) and tap Next
Set the user name to your complete e-mail address, enter your password, check the "Save password" option and tap Next
Set the Account type to HTTP and tap Next
Depending on which service you are using enter "hotmail" or "msn" (without the quotes) for both the incoming and outgoing server names, leave the domain field blank and tap the "Options" button
Set the connection to "The Internet" and tap Next
Set the maximum amount to fetch for each message or accept the default settings and tap Next
Set the maximum age for the downloaded messages and tap Next
Good luck.
i would be interested in this too.
at home, i have a wifi router and i'd like the phone to use that connection when reachable/available. then, when i'm not at home and there's no other wifi available, without doing any manual setting, it should skip to 3G.
is the device working like that by default? any special settings needed?

Can you run over this please as I'm not getting the screens in the order you've written them.
1. First screen I get email address so I put in a fake one.
2. Second screen I get "Your Name" field and then "Account Display Name"
3. Third screen I get "Incoming Mail Server" ... what do I put here? You said "hotmail" or "msn" ... but what exactly... pop3.hotmail.com or what?? and other field is account type. I see HTML there so I choose that.
4. Fourth screen is "Username" and "password" I put that as my hotmail username (not fake) and proper password...
5. "Outgoing Mail Server" ... again what to put for this?? Advanced settings on this page ... I've set it to "The Internet"
Left the rest of the other pages as default when I go to hit send and receive I get an error saying:
"The URL does not use a recognized protocol (80042001) Error Source: HTTP Status: Logging On"
hmm??

1. Ok.
2. Insert whatever you like.
3. Insert literally "hotmail" or "msn" and select HTTP.
4. Username should be the complete address, for example [email protected], password ok.
5. Again, insert literally "hotmail" or "msn", advanced setting ok, do not check Outgoing... and Use the same... should be grayed (disabled)
Before that you must register the DLLs (using regsvr_arm.exe) and the software (using HTTPMailReg.exe) and soft reset.
Followed all of that exactly as you said registerd the dlls and the software soft resetted and got a different error 80042002 HTTP Forbidden

I'm sorry but can't say what the problem is.
Just in case this is my account configuration (after the initial configuration I edited the address on the first page to the correct value, maybe you should try this too).
It sounds to me as though the people with the problem of cellular data connection kicking in when there is a valid wifi connection ought to examine the settings in whatever application is playing up.
e.g. someone mentioned that pocket outlook opens a 3G connection instead of using the wifi connection. In this case go into email settings (windows messaging application, menu/options then choose the email account that is causing the problem) click on "edit account setup" then press "next" 3 times and press on "advanced server settings". Check what is set under "Network connection:" In order to use the currently available connection this must be set to "The Internet" If you have set it to your cellular data connection for instance "orange internet" it will always use that connection and ignore the wifi.

I can only choose "Internet" under email settings and not my cellular data..?
The options I have are:
Orange WAP
Orange MMS
Orange Internet
Work
The Internet
I ended up just putting in my hotmail details manually using POP3 and set it to use the pop3.live.com:995 and smtp.live.com:587 rather than this whole HTTP issue with SSL and authentication for outgoing and inbound mail. "The Internet" for the network connection to use and made sure it leaves messages on server so now it'll sync without removing them off the inbox and uses the wifi first rather than the 3G.

I have Telenor/Vodaphone in Sweden and am having similar difficulties. It works well to use "The Internet" if I am on a wireless network. However, if I am without wireless I get connection error and have to switch network to "Telenor Internet" for it to work. Can anyone help out?
I'm currently trying to resolve this same issue on my girlfriend's MWg Zinc II running WM6.1.
The strange thing is, I have a Samsung Omnia, also running 6.1, with (as far as I can tell) the exact same setup for email and connections, but I don't have this issue.... ie when I'm connected to wifi and I sync my hotmail, it uses the wifi connection and does not try to connect using cellular data.

On both phones, when I "choose the email account", the next screen to appear is the Windows Live settings screen (where you cannot select the options you mention), not the standard email settings screens... so this method does not work for me.

I've had the same problem on my new Touch Pro 2 on T-Mobile, but didn't have it with my Vodafone v1615 (HTC TyTN II).
If you still have this problem, may be worth taking a look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4063850&postcount=4
This has fixed my problem.
I have had this problem with windows live for over 4 years, all other applications will use wifi over 3G if its available.
Windows live will only use 3G, which is an absolute nightmare when traveling as i dissable data and make use with WIFI in hotels and cafes.

Hi
I hope you don't think me too much of a plank but I've recently bought an Xda2 and am confused as to the best method of getting my email's.
<sigh> not another idiot I hear you say but as far as mobile anything's are concerned I'm a dummy!
I don't want to dial into my ISP every time so if any of you 'Patient' people can help me set up my Xda, I would be most grateful.
Best Regards
Ian G
It's quite easy providing you have a bit of information about your ISP.
Open your inbox - doesn't matter which one, active sync or SMS.
Use the Accounts -> accounts... menu option to open your accounts
Add a new one with the new button.
First settings page: Enter your email address
It'll now try and auto-configure your email settings. I have never known this to work, so hit the skip button.
On the next screen, enter your name as you want it seen, and your ISP's username and password (check the save password too).
I presume this is a regular POP3 account, so leave POP3 selected on the next page, and give it a name - this will eventually appear as a new set of inbox/sent items/outbox/drafts once you've finished configuring things.
Next page, enter your ISP's incoming mail server address, probably [email protected] or [email protected].
For outgoing mail - and I'm presuming you're with o2 here, use smtp.o2.co.uk. Outgoing mail servers usually only allow people to send mail when they are logged on, so your ISP's outgoing mail server will not allow you to send mail if you're connected via o2 gprs. To send mail via the usual GPRS connection, this must be o2's mail server. Leave the domain blank.
Click the options button and on the options page select whether you want to check for mail periodically (Note, due to a crap design decision at microsoft, only the set of email folders that was most recently viewed is synchronised). Select "The Internet" as the connection (presuming you want to use GPRS or Internet passthrough, and you haven't change the default O2 connections).
On the next options page, leave each checkbox blank, and on the final page you can opt to receive whole messages or just the header + a certain amount of included message body.
Once you click finish, things should start working, and you should be able to select the new ISP's inbox, write messages, and send them with the icon at the bottom of the screen.
Let us know if you get into any problems.
Much obliged to you A.C
I will give it a go thanks for your patience!
Best Regards
Ian G
Set that up ok A.C
Now I get "Unable to connect: you have no modem entries created and no network card present"
What do I do now A.C - bearing in mind that I haven't entered anything into the Xda2 yet, only got it this afternoon!
Thank you
Ian G
PS - I would want to connect GPRS (I Think) <embarrased smile>
If you dont have any modem connections in settings/connections/manage existing connections, you will have to create one, tab new give it a name, chose celllular line gprs, tab next , acesspoint name! dont know about UK settings but here its: internet, tab next , well dont know what to use in your network, here we dont need to fill in anything, tab finish..Now if you then tab and hold you new connection there comes a pop up menu:delete / connect chose connect and if your settings are correct youll see ( after a info pop up) two arrows at your signal strengh indicator, and you are connected...to disconnect hold down your hang up button..using your inbox, send or recieve should start up your gprs connection automaticly..
Dont know if was any help, but anyway, good luck.

Hello All,
Im relatively new to all this so please take it easy on me .
I have recently purchased an XDA2s and am awaiting delivery. I am planning on using an O2 PAYG sim with it (300 texts or 100 any network calls).
I have contacted O2 and have been informed that I will get the net etc on it, but as far as emails are concerned I will not be able to retrieve emails from a pop3 box or send them ( unless sent as a normal email in which case my phone number would appear ).
Could anyone tell me if this is 100% true or if there is indeed a bypass which would allow me to send and recieve emails from a or more pop3 box(s) without the need to go contract.
Thank you, Regards,
Tom.

It is true what they say, on O2 contract you have to connect to the 'mobile web' via GPRS to send and receive emails but on O2 pay as you go you cannot do this. The best thing you can do is sod the O2 pay as you go and join Orange's pay as you go equivalent -300 texts, 1 MB free GPRS per month for a 10 quid top up per month (same as O2), you can send and receive pop emails and connect to the proper web and also choose to have unlimited GPRS for 24 hrs (12pm to 11.59pm) for 1 pound a go.
Hi Padlad,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I am currently unsure on whether the XDA2s I am due to get is currently unlocked. I am also a little untrusting shops ( when it comes to this much monies worth ). How would I unlock it if it turned out not to be already unlocked to all networks?
And also where would the settings be so I could use all the services such as email, web, msn messenger etc etc on the orange PAYG network.
Regards,
Tom.

There is a small program on this site that will unlock your xda2s, just do a search for it and have a good read about how to do it! As for the settings these are the ones i used, i did not write these, i got them from this site:
STEP 1
The first step is to go into Start > Settings > Connections, and then click on the Connections icon itself.
You should then see a screen, with two main sections, relating to "MY ISP", and lower down, "My Work Network" (don't panic if it says "MMS Network for the lower one - this can be changed by going into the Advanced tab on the lower part of the screen, and choosing from a drop down list).
Start with the "My ISP" section, by clicking on the "Manage existing connections" link.
This will bring a screen up with the existing O2 settings listed. Now this is where you have a choice... You can either set up the orange settings as a NEW set, or you can just EDIT the existing O2 settings to change them to Orange. My instructions are based on a NEW set, which I feel is safer.
So... Click on the word "NEW" and we will work through it.
Firstly, call the connection name "Orange GPRS" without the quotes.
In the "Select a modem" drop down, choose "Cellular Line (GPRS)" <don't miss the GPRS bit there!>
Then we need to click on the "Next" button.
The access point name is "orangeinternet" with no quotes or spaces.
Then click "NEXT" again.
The username, password, domain, can all be left blank, but we need to click the "ADVANCED" button now...
We do not need to alter the TCP/IP settings, but we DO need to alter the Servers, so click on the "SERVERS" tab at the bottom.
Next, click the "Use Specific Server Address" radio button (the second of the two).
And enter the following details:
DNS: 158.43.192.1
Alt DNS: 158.43.128.1
Then click OK, to take you back to the last screen.
And at this point, you can click "FINISH" to create the settings. Well done so far. And then click the OK circle in the top corner, to come out of the "My ISP" settings.
STEP 2
You should now be at the Connections screen, with "My ISP", and "My Work Network" showing. Now we need to click on the "manage existing connections" link under "MY WORK NETWORK" this time, as we have already done the "My ISP" one.
So, click the lower one, "Manage existing connections" and we'll work through this...
A screen will pop up, with the existing O2 WAP network settings shown.
Again, I find it best to create a NEW connection, so click that button now.
Give the connection the name "Orange CSD WAP" (this is the older style dial up one we are doing first, GPRS WAP comes next).
For the modem type, choose "Cellular Line" this time (NOT the gprs version - just simple Cellular Line).
Then. click the "NEXT" button.
Enter the number as "+447973100500" without the quotes, and then click "NEXT"
Right, things get a bit iffy here, because of course, when I went to see what my settings were, the password was asterisked out ****
I THINK I know what it is though, and it seems to both fit and work, so go with my suggestion, but if anyone knows any different, please post it here.
The username is "Orange" without quotes, but I think with a capital O.
The password is "orangemultimedia" all one word, no spaces or caps or quotes - it seems to work for me for MMS (coming later) however, but I never bother with CSD WAP, so haven't put it to a full test.
The Domain can be left blank.
We don't need enter anything more, or any advanced settings, so just click on "FINISH" to complete setting up the older style CSD WAP settings.
We should now be back to the "My work Settings" screen, with your new settings also listed. We need to set up the more usual GPRS WAP now though, so once again, click the "NEW" button to set a new lot up.
Give the connection the name "Orange GPRS WAP" so it's easy to identify, and for modem type choose "Cellular Line (GPRS)" - note the gprs IS chosen this time. Then click the "NEXT" button.
The access point name is "orangewap" all one word without the quotes. Then click "NEXT".
There are no username, passwords, or domain settings to enter, nor any DNS etc, so you can now simply click on "FINISH" to save these settings.
Then you can click the "OK" circle in the corner, to exit the work settings screen.
We are now back to the Connections screen, with "My ISP", and "My Work Network" shown.
We need to set up MMS now, but the screen only shows two connections, so we need to click on the "ADVANCED" tab at the bottom now.
A couple of buttons will now appear, including one that says "SELECT NETWORKS", so click on that now.
Two drop down menus should then appear, and the bottom one will be the "My Work Network" connection. Click on this, to choose instead, "MMS Network", and then click the "EDIT" button to continue.
Now you should see the fairly familiar settings screen, but this time with the O2 settings for MMS or O2 WAP listed.
Click the "NEW" button to continue.
Call the new connection "Orange MMS" without quotes, and the modem type is again "Cellular Line (GPRS)". Then click "NEXT".
The access point name is "orangemms" without spaces or quotes. And then again, click "NEXT".
The username is "Orange", the password I THINK is again "orangemultimedia" all one word, no quotes (if anyone knows different post here, but it seems to work for me).
Once this is entered, there are no advanced settings to configure, so simply click the "FINISH" button to continue on.
You should then be dropped back to the list of MMS settings. Make sure at this point that the new "Orange MMS" item is the one that has the radio button checked.
Now just click the round "OK" button in the corner to continue.
You will be back to the Network Management screen with the two drop down boxes. It is VERY important it seems, at this point, to make sure that for the lower box, you change the drop down item back to "My Work Network" before continuing - so make sure you choose that now for the lower box, and then click the round "OK" button in the corner.
You will then be back to the Connections screen, but on the advanced tab, so click the "TASKS" tab instead to get back to the usual screen, where "MY ISP" should be the top set of options/links, and "My Work Network" should be the lower set.
Go into "Manage existing connections" for each one, respectively, just to check that the radio button is ticked for the ORANGE settings, and not the old O2 ones, for each of these (MY ISP, then My Work Network). (NOTE - Sometimes, for a pass-thru connection using ActiveSync, I find that the option "Auto Pick" needs to be the one checked, so remember where it is now, in case you need come back to it in future).
Once you have made sure it is using the new ORANGE settings for each that you have just created (use the GPRS WAP, not the CSD WAP, for the Work Network connection), then click "OK", "OK", and then the X to come out of this, and back to the Today Screen. At this point we are nearly finished (thank the lord), but we have one last thing to set up, and this is the killer, hidden away and oft forgot about...
STEP 3
Now we need to finally configure an intricate setting within MMS, for it to work properly. To do this, click on the Today screen, to create or view your MMS messages, simply to get the MMS editor to open up.
Once you are within the MMS editor itself, there should be two menu items on the bottom of the screen - NEW, and TOOLS.
Click Tools > Options now.
This will bring you into the Options interface, but on the PREFERENCES tab. We need the "SERVERS" tab, so click on that, at the bottom, now.
There should be only one item, the O2 settings, then listed. I don't know any way to ADD a NEW set, so instead we just click/press on the O2 settings one, to go into that, and make the changes to this set.
Firstly, call the server name "Orange MMS" without the quotes.
The gateway address is vital. It is: 192.168.224.10
Finally, the server address is "http://mms.orange.co.uk/" without the quotes.
Click on "OK" and this will drop you back to the Options screen. Now click on the PREFERENCES tab.
Now we can set this up properly.
"Connect via" should be changed, or read "MMS Network" form the drop down list.
"Connect to server" should be changed, or read, so that it is now the new "Orange MMS" settings.
Retrieve messages immediately should be ticked.
Sending limitations should be 40K I am told (though this seems strange for video messaging).
Depending on whether you have the newest ROM upgrade or not, if you have the new, there will only be one item to change to 40K. If you have an older ROM, you need to set 40K for both the SEND, and the RECEIVE limit.
No. of attempts before aborting seems to be a matter of choice - I tend to use "1" for the option here.
On newer ROMS there is also a box for "Download on home network only". If you tick this, it means you WON'T receive MMS when roaming. I seem to recall before my upgrade last night that this item is not there on older ROMS.
Once you have set this up, click the "OK" circle, then the X to come out of the MMS Editor, back to the Today screen.
And WELL DONE - you are finished.
Try connecting to the Internet on your XDA2, and check that it 'dials' an Orange GPRS connection.
Then try sending and receiving an MMS. And then finally, make sure you have an ActiveSync pass-thru to the internet when the XDA2 is docked on the cradle too.
All being well, you should have a fully functioning XDA2, but using the Orange network to go with your SIM (assuming of course you unlocked it).
I hope this post has been useful (if not very lengthy), and any feedback or amendments, or questions, please post below - though I can't be held liable for any issues that result from it!
I should add that Orange SMS centre number, and Voicemail number, is automatically retrieved from the Netowrk when you have an Orange SIM in.
If you have any problems though, click Start > Settings > Phone, and then the Services tab.
There you can alter the usual stuff like call bariing etc, BUT, if you click the "Get Settings" button, it should retrieve the SMS centre, and voicemail number automatically.
Just saw this posted for the unlock software: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24779&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Padlad,
Excellent . Although the link at the bottom there when followed put me off a little when it read MIGHT BREAK IT etc etc.
Im not exactly sure which one mine is. I know its the XDA2s but is it wallaby, alpine etc etc ??????? :?:
Im just going to have to hope that this phone is indeed unlocked. lol. Many thanks again, im just off now Sim card hunting
Regards,
Tom.
the device will be locked by default, however the all in one unlocking tool in the upgrading section should help sort that out.

Not to worry about this thread anymore.
I unlocked it on saturday ( i think it was ) evening. The unlocking tool worked a treat.
I am now trying to help a friend find an XDA2s with the same rom and radio versions as well as model number, only because I know the unlocking tool works for mine.
many regards to both of you for your help.

I can't seem to get WLM for Windows Mobile to work. I have searched XDA as well as HoFo, I have tried various roms (Xplore 1.1, Xplore 2.0 Beta, Faria's 'The Real Thing,' Faria's AKU3.3 WM5, and even T-Mobile's 2.26), and I have tried multiple connection changes.
I have also tried various Radio ROM's including 2.19.11, 2.25, 2.61, and 2.69.
The way I have my settings in "Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks" is as follows:
1.)For the top option, I created a new network titled "WiFi." The only additional change I made to this one was to tick the box "this connection connects to the Internet," I did not tick the box for "Use Proxy."
2.)For the bottom, I also created a new network called "T-Mobile Web." For this, I added a modem (Cellular GPRS), entered an APN of wap.voicestream.com, did not add a VPN, turned Proxy on with a valid entry, and made sure the WAP and Secure WAP had valid entries.
With this setup I CAN access any website with Pocket IE and Opera 8.6x. Unfortunately, I cannot access Windows Live Messenger:
1.) Open WLM through the Program window
2.) I can either say "Sign In" on the homescreen, or go to "Cancel" and enter in my display name, but either way when I click sign in I get...
"Signing in to Messenger will add your Messenger contacts to your phone's address book. Do you wish to continue?"
3.) I say "Ok" to this, my phone notifies me that it is "Connecting to GPRS," then Windows Live states, "There's a connectivity problem. Make sure you're in an area with good phone reception and try again."
4.) I can press "Retry" as many times as I want, nothing changes.
I can also get a different error message if I click on the "Sign-in to Windows Live" from the Today screen. My phone then connects to the Internet again, then, after it successfully connects, I get, "Windows Live was unable to establish an Internet connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider."
I have tried removing the Live Messenger Today screen item to resolve it ( not that I thought it would work ). I have tried enabling the WiFi and that did not work. I have tried setting both Options in Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks to my connection "Web," but that did not work.
I have tried in areas where I get full reception + GPRS/EDGE and I have tried in other areas, nearly one hundred miles away, where I had varying reception + GPRS/EDGE.
Any ideas?
im a beta tester for windows live mobile and can probably say without doubt its expired. mine wont connect when i new version comes out. they disable the older versions when a new build comes out. the latest build was realeased something like 2/4/07. thats how i can usually tell there is a new build available without going to the microsoft connect site, it just stops working.
try finding the latest build and you shouldnt have a problem
dolbe,
I would agree with you, but other people are using the exact same one that I have...only they are successful in connecting. Thank you for your insight, though.
I think you should change the thread name into something like "Windows Live Messenger DOESN'T Connect thru GPRS "
Good luck

Possible problem with the gprs could be reception or radio versions, the gprs data connection is slow when tray to work with internet explorer or opera,
Takes to long time to show up the www.google.com ,
I think the problem could be with the radio version or the rom,
Windows live/ email synchronisation connection solutions
Hey All,
Web browser working fine but you can't synch your e-mail account or windows live account? ... I was puzzled by this for quite a while myself before it finally clicked (I even got to a stage where I could sync my email and live account through my wireless internet but not through the mobiles own GPRS/3G)
The problem lies in the data connection that windows live account/ your email account attempts to use. The good news is that, it is usually very easy to select the right data connection for your email account to use:
1. Go through the E-mail account setup, where you enter your mail server settings. Continue to enter these as normal.
2. When you get to the "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server" page, tap "Advanced Server Settings". Under "Network Connection" you have the option to choose the data connection. This is usually set to "The Internet" as standard, but usually needs to be changed to "t-mobile internet", "vodafone internet" or whatever network connection has been setup to get your mobile connected to your providers own GPRS/3G. BINGO, your done... well most of the time.
The bad news for Windows live/ hotmail users is that they do not get the chance to select the network connection a windows live/hotmail account uses. On the very first part of the e-mail setup, as soon as you type in "[email protected], or [email protected]" , the account wizard completely takes over declaring that "settings found for hotmail.com". And even after you type in all your details you do not get to option to select the network connection to be used. (This is consequence of the fact that Microsoft Windows Mobile thinks it knows best how to configure microsoft based e-mail accounts for windows mobile.) The network connection that is automatically selected is called "The Internet". As you cannot select another network connection, you must edit "The Internet" connection so that it has the right settings for your particular mobile service provider. To do this:
1. Go to Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> connections --> manage existing connections --> select "The Internet", and then tap "Edit".
2. Leave the name as "The Internet", but fill the rest of the boxes with the GPRS/3G settings of your individual mobile service provider.
Note: Getting these settings is relatively easy: 1.You can ask your mobile service provider. 2. You can search the web for the GPRS settings of your network. 3. If your web browser is working fine, you probably have the settings. Check under manage existing connections, and check the values used for "t-mobile internet", "vodafone internet", "orange internet", etc... and just copy them.
Enjoy,
AK
Hi AK,
could "The Internet" settings be hidden? I can't find the settings under Manage Existing Connections
This is truly a b*tch! I recently upgraded my Samsung i780 to Windows Mobile 6.1 via the free upgrade offered by Samsung (http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/i780/nr/subXb_xp.jsp) - and after that I lost my settings to make MSN work..
I remember that I spend lots of time to make it work last time aswell.. and at that time it always created two connections when I started to use MSN and check email at the same time.
After that, I used my phone on a flatrate 3G connection for almost 3 months in Asia without any trouble - it worked just great, I was emailing, using Skype, MSN, Google Map and everything flawlessly... Buut ofcourse I had to upgrade to 6.1 which I am happy about, since my phone is faster now.
Anyway.. tonight I finally got it working again; I wish I could make some kind of walkthrough.. but I can't..
What I did was to have two online configurations from my Danish telecom provider "Telenor" send to my phone by SMS (I could type in my phoneno. on their website, selecting which config I wanted); I got one for WAP called "E-GO" and I got one for Internet, called "Internet". For a while, I was using "Internet" as my default profile for everything, and it worked fine with everything except for MSN which refused to even attempt to logon.
Now I went to to Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> connections --> manage existing connections --> and selected the "WAP" connection as my default connection instead.
Now everything suddenly works - I selected this connection also to be used now for my GMAIL account (under server priveligies while setting up your email), Skype works, MSN works, Google Map works, Explorer works, Opera Works..... all running full 3G HDSPA mode!
My guess is, that the problem rely on the fact that you cannot select any default connection for MSN. So the connection you select as your generic connection must be capable of running MSN and all the rest - so if it doesn't work with your "Internet", "My Internet" or "The Internet" connection, try changing to another one. If you don't have it, try to setup from your telecom provider - maybe another setting will work.
Last thing to do for me now.. a full system backup with "SPB Backup" to make sure nothing goes wrong ever again

Hi
Hoping someone can help me!
My Touch HD has been working fine up until yesterday, and now for some reason it is no longer sending emails. I know the settings are right because it was working fine until yesterday.
I have done a hard reset, and installed an alternative ROM but still no luck. My email server itself is working fine.
Any ideas please, it's driving me mad!
Thanks in advance.
Ben.
Anyone help!
Ben,
You'll have to give us a little more to go on.
Who is your Mail Provider?
What error are you getting?
Anything else that might help.
Paul.

Also are synchornising your mail by using WiFi or 3G
Provide Sreenshots if you can
Hi - I'm having a similar problem on my Touch HD. I have a POP email account set up which connects and downloads emails absolutely fine when I'm on Wifi or connected via Activesync. However when I am on a data connection (i.e. GPRS, 3G, etc) it comes up with an "synchronisation error", and suggests I edit my connection settings. The data connections works for everything else, including web browsing and other applications that require it. Its almost as if the mail application isn't being allowed access to the data connection unless its over wifi.

Check your service provider.
I had this problem once and they were "playing" with the POP access over GPRS.
I would give them a quick call.

Yup, sounds like I am having the same problem as DaveHodgkinson.
Can download emails fine, can access the internet fine. Just can't send emails. I know all my settings are correct as they were working fine previously, plus I can send/receive via Outlook and webmail absolutely fine. I have a QIQ hosting package with my own domain that I use for email.
I have read about other people having this same error on their WinMo devices, but have not been able to find a working solution for it.
The error message I get is "the message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. The try sending again".
Well I do have network coverage, and the account information is correct, so what next!!
This fault renders a major function of the phone unusable.
I doubt this is a "fault".
I'll bet your mobile provider is blocking port 25 making everything else not matter.
Get a telnet client and make sure you can telnet to your mail server on port 25.
Use your wireless providers SMTP server.

From searching google this problem appears to be too widespread to be operator specific. I have tried an alternate port and that also fails. I am on o2.
anybody anymore ideas?
Planetgong,
If you are on O2 UK, this worked for me:
If you can't get your own email providers SMTP settings to work then you can use O2 settings for sending email (while keeping your own email provider for incoming email). To do this your main email settings should look like this...
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: smtp.o2.co.uk
User Name: [email protected]
Password: youro2password
Your Advanced settings should look like this...
Outgoing Settings
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 25
If you can't remember your O2 username and password (you will have registered this when you activated your phone) then just register another one at www.o2.co.uk (the 'Register' link is near the top left corner).
Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've just tried that but get the same error message. Can you tell me where I can find the advanced settings?
Planetgong,
Assuming you can log onto your o2 mail box on your PC/laptop. And sign out again.
Go through email setup, my outgoing mail server is smtp.o2.co.uk, tick outgoing server requires authentication, untick use the same name and password. Under "advanced server settings" (at bottom of screen) have both boxes unticked. Make network connection O2 active (not The Internet).
done and next.
Enter O2 user name and password
continue to end of setup.
Then try it!!
Hi
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this still didn't work. It is like my Touch HD has suddenly decided to stop all outgoing SMTP connections. I have tried so many different things now and it still isn't working!
Just found this :

Although the problem is supposed to be solved on the version of Windows Mobile on the Touch HD, it clearly isn't! Cheers Microsoft.
Not sure what to do now. Don't see why I should accept a phone that all the features don't work on?
I've also got the .cab fix installed linked to by the traceyandmatt site.

Proxy is unchecked, still no access. Can I return the phone on the basis it isn't able to perform all the functions it is supposed to?

Didn't work for me! couldn't send any email anymore! Restored a backupfile
before i had my 3g internet running fine but my nephew got a hold of my phone and all of my T-Mobile Internet number and proxy is cleared. Does anyone know the correct T-Mobile settings for ACCESS POINT NAME and/or proxy server settings?
Also, my NETWORK MANAGEMENT is set to T-Mobile Internet then MY WORK NETWORK. is this right?
EDIT: for T-Mobile Internet I have the dialing number as "epc.tmobile.com" and the proxy server is "127.0.0.1"
for My Work Network the number is "7202542831" and there's no proxy server.
epc.tmobile.com
Uncheck the proxy server option there (under "T-Mobile Internet"), tmo doesn't use one.
The "My Work Network" settings really don't come into play for your regular data connections, so don't worry about those.
I am having problems where I get randomly booted off the network when trying to send/receive non-Outlook emails (yahoo, hotmail, etc) it tells me "error synchronizing" then takes me to the Connections settings tab. How do I fix this so it doesn't keep doing it?
OK, so I click "send/receive" in my Inbox, and a window pops up that says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connections settings, tap Settings."
So I tap settings, which takes me to a screen showing my existing connection profiles. T-Mobile Internet with the number "epc.tmobile.com" is active and the only one listed. So I click "edit", asks for a name, I'll leave it at "T-mobile internet". Select a modem is grayed out with Cellular line (GPRS) selected. I click "next"...asks for access point name with the epc.tmobile.com already in the box so I leave that alone and click "next"...now it asks for user name, password, and domain...all are blank...
It really does seem arbitrary...can't think of any apps I'm using at the same time...most of the time, just resetting it back to the same settings takes care of it.
This is the only recurring error I have with my stock HD2 and I would really like to fix this once and for all...
HELP???
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Go look for the HTC connection wizzard cab for download. Install and run this and it will fix your settings for you.
if that didnt work and your still getin booted off even though there is no password, still check the save password box in the settings. Then go into your connection manager a turn on your data manually. using "wap.voicestream.com" seems to work better for my sweet ass. but it just depends on what part of hell your in.
OK this is my only gripe with my HD2...connection and network.
Now, since I got back from a trip where I was on roaming, my email will not work. Every time I click send/receive, it gives me a "synchronization error" and takes me to the Connections Settings menu. I have it on "auto pick", and wap.voicestream.com and epc.tmobile.com as the choices, but still will not work. I tried the connection wizard on here also and still have this issue.
Help?
EDIT: Nevermind, going to the email settings and swtiching from T Mobile Internet to T Mobile Data in advanced settings fixed it. Now all 5 of my accounts are synching just fine over 3G.
