No,Its just happend again about the 5th time now where its just completely or partly wiped my 1gig lexar sd card, its a good job i backed up but it shouldent keep doing this,What do u guys think could be the problem?
This is the only thing i dont like about the jam everything else is great this would probably be a reason for mr selling it and getting rid as its happening too often,Do you think it could be imates rom as ive thought about updating to qteks 1.11 or software or hardware fault (sd) any ideas would be great,It just stops this phone from being perfect for me
Same thing is happening with me. also 1 GB A-Data Sd-card
frustrating......
never happened with 128MB card before....
anyone has any cure????
happend to me in my 512MB card... but it happened when i installed a program called RSS Feeder or something like that... everything was gone from the card except for a 2 folders which had many sub-folders....... and found a file which i couldn't delete and the size of that file was about 1.9GB yes GB not MB and had weird characters in the name... it was weird
that's scary as it happened to me once but I thought it was a fluke. This means that I have to fine a place to back it up.
Who Has Pocket Mechanic Installed? i beleieve it might be the reason. check out pleasE!
i don't have it on my jam
Same thing happens to me after transfering large files using my card reader. As soon as I insert my 1Gb SD card back in my s100 the file names juble up and I can't view the contents of the folder.
This happened even before i installed pocket Mechanic.
Transfering the same files through activesync does not seem to make the problem.
I have it installed. It aint the problem.
Happend 3 times on old Rom versions..
never happend on Anasky Patched Qtek FI 1.11 .. .. .. yet..
I use a the Blue SD 1GB SanDisk card.
Keep the SD backed up on the PC have been a must after all wipes.. scary thing.
Hope its gone.. If not.. Ill get another SD card and try that out..
Anyone "Heavy SD User" here, that uses another brand and never experience this??
Please share what card U uses..
Best Regards Carlis
Hmm, I using Lexar SD 1 Gb in my O2 mini, and quite heavy user since have mini (small internal memory). I store my games, video, Mp3 and document files. Before in mini (i bought mini in February), i used in my XDA II, So far no problem.
Tips : analyst and defrag when needed using sd card reader.
I had this problem too
Hi,
I had the same problem using a blue 1GB SD card from Sandisk together with an IPAQ 4150. The problem was hard to track down. I had the feeling that it happened when I tranfered large files with my card reader and when the card is almost full.
I even contacted HP support but they did not have any other reports like this.
I then ordered another card reader (the oval one from Retec) because I suspected thr card reader to be the one to blame. it happened again with the new card reader.
The file names were all scrambled and the explorer showed files larger than the card was. Some of them could not even be deleted.
I finally bought another card reader (Hama USB 2.0 Card Reader 9in1 Part no. 47100). This fixed all problems I had with the IPAQ / 1GB sandisk combination.
I have switched to an MDA compact a few days ago and I hope that the problem that you are experiencing is related to your card reader.
I am almost certain it is.
Is there anyone having this problem who has never used the SD card in a card ready - I think not.
Try this registry patch
I did it & now I no longer suffer any SD card wipping 8)
Great thanks alot ill give it a try,did u make the patch?
No, its just a .reg file, you can run it using Resco Explorer 2003 or any other programs, or even you can enter the registry keys manually..
ezzkht, thanks!!!
what does it actually do?
Referring to what spadb said in the past forums, there is no key referring to FAT file system for the SD Card, which both the XDA I & XDA II have.
So, this registry hack will add the reference to these DLLs (which really reside in the Windows folder, but not referenced by anything!)
Plz refer to this post for more info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7230
All the thanks go to spadb, not me!! I just made this registry file out of what he'd discovered.
thanks man
no problem dude,,, I hope this file will solve the SD wipping problem
If anyone has lost his data, I can help to get this data back again using undelete..
Ive just been having this problem recently and applied the reg fix, only the first key, is this enough and do I also need to format my sd card with the FAT32 instead of FAT16? Many thanks
The most important keys are:
"BlockTransferSize"=dword:00000028
"FSD"="FATFSD.DLL"
But i recommend to add the whole keys.
Use Resco Explorer 2003 (even the trial version works)
With a single clic, you will have this key imported.

Firstly I should say Hi now I have finally registered here after lurking for a while
Please excuse me if you have seen this posted on another site too, I really need help with this
When I put my SD card into my card reader or laptop (I have tried it on both), I get the message "The Disc in drive E: is not formatted, would you like to format it now?" So I press yes and it says... "The Disc in Drive E: Cannot be formatted".
Any ideas?
This is so frustrating, I know I can install things through activesync but I am trying to put TomTom back on which I need to do via the card reader. (BTW, I would never have got TomTom installed the first time around if it wasnt for this site )
Please help.
Are you using a fairly recent USB2 card reader or one you've had for a while. If its not a new one then you're probably going to have problems with a 2G sd card.
I bought it off ebay about a month ago. so it should be fairly modern, it doesnt work in the slot in my laptop either. I know that 2 gig cards are ok on the laptop as I use the camera SD with it no problems.
I have used SK Tools to reformat it, having done this I lost all my programs on the phone so I had to hard reset. After this I can open up the stoarge card on the laptop but when I try to copy my Tomtom over it comes up with a 'write-protection' error, no problems moving cab files over and installing via activesync. Although I cant install TomTom this way because of the file conversion.
Im wondering now if maybe the SK tools format did the job and maybe my problem lays with Tomtom, it worked before though so I just dont understand it.
Thanks for your reply. I shall have to try that program.

I had some problems with a 4gig sd card showing as write protected like yours.
I solved it by putting a folded piece of the thin backing film from a screen protector on top of the sd card when I put it in the reader.
The write protection is a small contact inside the reader and it just needed this extra packing to put a bit of pressure on the contact to make a connection.
after doing that for a week it now does not need the film so I assume that the contacts inside the reader were either a bit dirty or had some sort of coating that has now worn off.
Worth a try ??
Thanks, I really dont think its the card reader though as it doesnt work on my laptops SD slot either, and when I try to take the files for Tomtom over via Activesync it does the same thing. Installing Cab files is fine though. Im starting to think its a TomTom problem, which is odd as it worked before on my old card, both Sandisk Ultra II.

Ok, I don't know what is going on but my device pics up and uses my storage card fine. However, my WMP wont' read the card and when I try to "update" the library with update library function it goes almost the whole way and gets stuck when it says adding files.
Anyone have this problem??/
errrrrrr
do you guys use a better player with sync capabilities and what have you? thanks in advance.
Go to your storage card. delete the folder MSMETADATA and then load WMP and try to update the library again. It should work now.
wow, you are my genius for the day... THANKS...
whoahooo... I have another question but I am going to post the thread over here. I know the rules are a bit different but I love my music and I am trying to set up the sync for this phone... could I pm you or link you to the other thread I am starting...
@rene_canlas: this one is bugging me as well! i'll give it a shot the next time WMP10 doesn't see my card again [just did a hard reset and formatted my microSD cause of this].

yea, why does it do this... how does this happen?
I've owned 3 WM5 PPCs before the TyTN and didn't encounter this problem
--
dopod 838 + 1Gb SanDisk miniSD = no problem
hp iPAQ rw6828 + 1Gb SanDisk miniSD = no problem
O2 XDA Exec + 4Gb Transcend SD = no problem
HTC TyTN + 1Gb Transcend microSD = problem
--
I was starting to think that maybe my microSD card was defective but I guess I'm not the only one.

This is microSD card issue.
I had HTC Apache (PPC6700) with miniSD - no problem
I had Hermes with microSD 1GB SanDisk - problem
I have Hermes with microSD 2GB SanDisk - problem
AFAIR problem is with microSD card and it's Digital Rights Management.
My problem happens when I switch SimCards, new SIM card and WMP does not see nothing on microSD.
Similar problem I had with coping data (GPS maps) via card reader/writer - problems accured, via ActiveSync - no problem. Difference was in speed.
I have this problem quite frequently every week or so, really annoying. Using 2GB Sandisk card.
my TyTN had this problem, after browsing the memory card, the "MSMETADATA " folder was 32gb big...on a 2GB card? WTF????
the files inside the folder had foreign symbols on and stuff...and wouldnt delete with the normal "press the "delete" key button.."
i couldnt delete it, so i have to copy everyhting to computer, and then format the card! and after then its worked fine
bit crazy! also other media players struggled to add media files and the phone locked up...
So is it something wrong with the TyTN or is there something wrong with microSD cards in general
I had a similar problem; I put the MicroSD card in Windows and ran chkdsk /r on the MicroSD card which then said it found files, converted the lost chains to files. I then was able to delete the new "lost chains" and the original folder. I also have the SanDisk 1gb/2gb cards. I guess sometimes the card gets sort of dislodged maybe and that is what wacks it out?

I have had the same problem on my TyTN since June. The work about is only a temporary solution.
I contacted HTC Europe and they advised me that they were are aware of the problem and that it would be corrected in a future update. Have updated but still have the problem.
I have noticed that the file MSMETADATA is not present on the storage cards on the latest phones. So I will take mine in to be repaired.
I suggest you do the same.
I don't know this for a fact but i have read that it is a problem with sandisk cards only...anyone know if this is true. I had it and i have a 1gb sandisk.
Hi, I'm having problems with the 2Gb Dane-Elec mini SD card in the Trinity (original; did not flash it or something...)
The card just cannot be accessed after a while, or after I run a program off it. For example: I have TomTom Navigator maps stored on it. When I run TomTom, All works fine, but when I close TomTom, the card cannot be accessed anymore. In the explorer, the folder list is all garbled and shows strange symbols. When I remove the card and re-insert it, all works ok again. So, after I do something with the card, I have to remove it and re-insert it in order to get it working again.
When I then re-insert the card, it shows up in the Explorer with the name "StorageCard2", because apparently when the card cannot be found, a folder called "StorageCard" is created on the device.
I'm trying to figure out if this is caused by the storagecard being faulty, or perhaps an error / incompatibility in the device.
Any ideas? many thanks in advance!

It seems that the Trinity has this problem with some memory brands more than others. I have a 2GB sandisk and I don't have this problem. Another possibility is that problems lie in how the memory card is used: I use the card only to store music and other documents, but I don't have programs installed in the card.... maybe that's the reason why I am spared this problem?
I'm having the same issues with a TakeMS 2GB mini sd card. I've tried different formats (FAT16, FAT32) with no success. I sent an email to HTC and they told me they didn't know of any incompatibility problems with mini SDs.
same here in greece with mini sd 2gp sandisk and take ms !!! only 1 gb work perfect
Same problem with TakeMS 2Gb miniSD. Works fine on my girlfriend's nokia N80.

You've probably already tried, but formatting the card with XP with a card reader in FAT 32 might help.
Mine is starting to have the same problem too! I have a Kingmax 2gb minid-sd card. However. I didn't see any problems like this until a few days after I flashed to the new gps rom. A soft reset will bring everything back for me.
My SanDisk UltraII 2Gb works perfectly so far, both in FAT32 as in good ol' FAT format.
I don't think this is a card compatibility problem, more likely a bug in the OS somewhere or a conflict with some program. I have an SanDisk UltraII card like oVan (don't smile too long oVan ). Everything was fine for two weeks and then I experienced the problem, only the card got corrupted. I did a hardboot and reinstall and it seems to be fine for now.
It did happen after I did a restore created by SPB Backup (latest version). I noticed after the restore some things weren't as they should be. Not sure if it caused the problem or if it was just coincidence.
I think it would be helpful in figuring this out if people posted their Rom versions in case it is a bug in one of the roms, no?
Mine is
Rom: 1.15.405.5 10/23/06
Radio: 1.20.00.11
ExtRom: 1.15.405.101

Same problem here... and i am using a 2gb sandisk minisd card... occasionally I won't be able to see my files... and it will sometime give me weired characters when i open in the explorer... a soft-reset will bring it back to life again, but this is very annoying.... I was thinking that there is a problem with the card or with the brand and was thinking about buying a new card.... but now after reading this thread it looks more like a problem with the device itself

I remember the Magician had a similar problem with the SD card until finally a ROM upgrade became available that would fix the problem.
Early adopters have all the fun
Same with Kingston 2GB
Same here with the Kingston 2GB card. Happened to me both before and after the ROM upgrade. A soft-reset (or ejecting/reinserting the card) fixes it, but it's quite annoying!
Lee
I have the same problem with 2 GB Kingston MiniSD.
But I also have a 512 MB MiniSD with this feature.
I sent an email to HTC pointing to this thread and received the following reply:

Great. I hope we hear back soon. I'm using Kingmax 2gb sd and it seems to only happen after I upgraded the ROM. I used it for 3 weeks without a hitch before that.

Thanks for escalating Jorgerib!
Can't wait to see what they do with the info...
I have some new information regarding this issue.
I formatted my Kingston MiniSD with another PC and so far so good.
When I used the phone or my home desktop to format I keep getting this problem 4-5 times / day.
But 2 days ago I reformatted my MiniSD with a laptop and since then everything OK.
Maybe you can try the same (try to format another memory reader) and we will see if it helps.
I've tried to reformat the card with a laptop, with a desktop pc (both with card readers) and in the device using storage tools with no success. The symptoms are similar to the ones reported by sdhc card owners. Does anyone made any progress with this?
I had an Apacer 2GB card and I had the same problems. I also first thought it was the card but now... Actually I'm afraid of buying a new card because I alread lost some great pictures/videos.
I'm having problems with my SD 2gb card from SanDisk (made in China) , the data is corrupted . Just bought a Kingston 2gb, made in Taiwan, slightly thicker than de SanDisk (just the feeling I think) and hope that the problem stays away. Are there more people that have the same problem with de HTC P3600 (HTC Trinity, SPV M700) in combination with a sd mini card? I've send a mail to de customer service yesterday and received an automatic reply. Now it is waiting for an answer. I have the hope it is just a small parameter in the setting of the PDA. When I let the PDA go to standby itself after 2 minutes it seems to be OK for now at least. Please give me some reactions from P3600 owners! Look at this link for the same problems on the Artemis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511
problem with mini SD
Hy
it seems that P3600 have several problem with mini SD.
first of this expencive pocket diamond does not like all kind fo mini SD..moreover i used a kingston 2GB and it was working well since 3 days ago...then BLACK OUT.
The pocket pc soes not see the mini sd anymore!!
Why? I really do not know, but i'm not the only one who is experienced in this beautiful situation!
HTC says that the problems with the artemis and the sd-card are depending on a software bug together with WM5, and they are working on it. I think, it is the same bug with the trinity
I have a microSD with miniSD Adapter, and is corrupted, and the size of corrupted data is increasing day after day ....
After few days I need format this f***ing card ..... I hope HTC fix this bug soon !!!!!!
Alex13
it happened to me couple of times with a trascend mini sd 2gb.
it really really sucks.
coming from a Mac only world sometime I feel throwing the trinity down a bridge is the best thing to do... I'm not used to crashes and corruption.
But hey, it's the only way to actually use skype when I'm around...
anyway, last week I've installed Trinity Hacks 0.2 a free app that modify the registry, one of the functions is to fix SD compatibility.
I didn't have problems since
This is what HTC told me:
Thanks for your email regarding your P3600. The SanDisk Ultra II 2gb mini SD card is not compatible with the device. Instead of an Ultra card you need a standard mini SD card with no more than 2GB.
I bought a Kingston 2GB and it's running a few days without any problem, keeped my fingers crossed while typing this!
I think I have the fix, instead of re-formatting the card connect the trinity (or data card) to your PC, make sure you can see hidden files and folders, search for a folder/directory starting "MSM". Delete this folder and all the files that have become an issue become unlocked.
Sorry if some one else has posted this fix, just saved myslef hours re-installing TomTom by doing this.
Hope this helps
Graham
