Hi all, I recently moved to SPB Backup for my regular backup, but it is reporting that it is not able to fully backup the content of the following directory: \Windows\System\PushRouter\.
I had a look to such directory and I noticed that - close to the "clientqueues.vol" file that in my understanding is as it should be - also apparently corrupted files are available.
In detail, a directory & a file (very big size) that have names composed with strange characters. I tried to delete such files, but I failed both with Resco Explorer and Total Commander.
Do I need an hard-reset to recover from this situation or such "strange files" are instead welcome as part of Windows Mobile OS ?

Due to Size limitation of Extended_ROM folder in HIMALAYA (which is 16mb), and after zipping collected cab files which is somwhere from 26MB to 30MB. It gives an stonishing great result and can be add to Extended_ROM Folder. And thus you will have a bunch of Program in your device. This is good for those who are working in the field and having problem with sudden hard reset or just simply far from his computer but need to make a clean hard reset.
This option will give a bunch of application installed in a device with a limited extended_rom size.
THERE ARE Currently in Two Method
CrunchIT Method - uses the SelF-eXtracting Archive (SFX)to compress a collected cabs
Zip Method - uses the Plain Zip file created by any zip program in PC or in PPC

I've developed a generic backup file explorer program that also supports the xbackup file format.
Don't you know if I need/where to ask for permission from HTC do keep the xbackup support in the application before putting my app online?

Put it somewhere and execute it. It’ll restore your files in a subdir named RestoredFileSystem
Please note that this is really an alpha version – no error handling, no database/registry restoration etc. Also, ignore the access violation error at the end.

I've got lots of .dsm and .rgu files in my Windows folder, for example
12e09329-dd44-jhg589856-jh2525656598.DSM or .RGU
they're about 1 to 20k big. About 40-50 of them sit on top of my Windows folder.
have you got them too? What are they there for? And can I get rid of them?
They seem to be "hidden in rom" though, as they appear when the option "hidden on rom" is ticked in total Commander.
they also appear on my desktop's Explorer , throuh Windows Mobile/MyWindowsMobiledevice/Windows (or similar path)

I think it is some digital cert for granting application access. If you delete it, you will be asked some applications is not signed and do you want to execute it. If you say yes, it will create this file again.

Yes, there is some in my k-jam too, from the timestamp you will know it is created when you installed some applications each time.
and what about this directory
\Windows\OEM on my qtek 9100
It contains MFC80U.dll
and msvcr80.dll
it looks like visual studio files and I don't understand what it does in my user memory.
Either it should be in WM5 files or It should be removed.
What do you think?
Regarding Bynaris Smartexplorer it is the best for smartphones clearly but:
1 - it is not a task manager, it is a file explorer
2 - it has been design to be used with numeric keypad shortcuts on pocket pc it is a pain to use.
However I really like its quickness.
I will just wait for a more pocket pc friendly version before I replace resco explorer.
Although I have been able to copy this file in the past, recently I began getting a message that says it is locked because another process is using a portion of it. And this when there are no running processes on the device (according to Spb Pocket Plus). Anyone have an idea on what may be accessing the file?

Maybe a today calendar plugin like todayagenda, pocket breeze etc.. disable them thru today\options then try copying again.
My question to you would be are you using resco order the default file explorer. only the default explorer will let you copy this file. resco and other file explorer are guarded against this due to it being a
"safe " file . Good luck
...it must be something else because i can copy it with gsplayer while it isn't my default file-explorer. Even with pocketinformant opened it's not locked for me. Can you see with i.e. SK Tools processes if one of the program/system processes uses pim.vol?...

I had thought of that and removed Calendar from my Today screen Items. I had no other plugins that would utilize PIM data. But thank you for the suggestion. BTW, I also want to thank you for some very good information I've learned from reading your posts. And I'm also running your Black Skins on my Today screen and dialer.

That was it, thank you! I had been using Resco. As soon as I switched to MS Explorer all was well again. And even though I'm backing up with Spb Backup I still like having the actual pim.vol file in a couple of places as backups.

Try to DL a taskmanager program and cancel out anything that maybe running. OR try to clear out any currently running programs under start>setting>system>memory>running programs
Also, if you have a backup copy of the pim.vol file, rename the existing file to pimold.vol and copy the one you want into the "my device" directory
I try to keep an updated copy of the pim.vol file on my storage card.
Anytime before upgrading my phone, I copy the pim.vol file over to the storage card, upgrade the phone, rename the new file to pimold.vol and copy the one from the storage card back into the default directory.

It was Resco's refusal to copy the file that was the problem. Nothing was open or using it. MS File Explorer copied it fine. And yes, keeping a copy on the storage card is excellent advice. So is keeping a copy of the corresponding .pst file on the PC somewhere safe.

I tried to copy a bunch of .dll files from \Windows
I encountered a couple of problems doing that:
1. Some files are not shown on the PC in Windows Explorer though I've enabled viewing hidden and system files. However, these files are shown on the device in Resco Explorer, but can't be copied to e.g. \Storage Card
2. Some files are shown on PC in Windows Explorer but are in use and therefore can't be copied
What are the tricks to back up those files?
PS: My device (S710 Vox) is unlocked using M$ Security Manager
No tricks.
If you bothered to learn anything about your device you would know that these files are part of ROM and can not be copied out.
Don't mean to be rude but this was asked and answered many times before. Do a search on "ROM dump"

Actually I can't find coredll.dll in my ROM dump.
I used viewimgfs.exe to dump Part02. I can't use viewimgfs.exe on Part00 and Part01.
Is there another tool which can retrieve coredll.dll and perhaps other missing files?
Another question: can the S710 be flashed by using imgfs tools v1.82 to create the image(s) and a generic HTC flash tool?
