Delaying reminders with more than one minute - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

When a reminder from for instance a calendar event, an incoming message or a missed call pops up, you can choose to dismiss it or delay it (not sure if delaying is the correct name in english, I mean postponing). When you choose delay, it pops up again after a minute or so.
WM offers the opportunity to choose for how much time you want the delay the reminder. If I recall correctly you could delay it for 1, 5, 30 and 60 minutes and 24 hours or so. Is there a way to get this choice back in TF3D? One minute is too fast for me.
Edit: for solution go directly to post 37.

I noticed this too. It's an annoying 'problem' for me. Hope to find a tweak/solution!

Hello there,
I had a little lookie in the registry found something that seems to do the trick, check out .
HK_Current_User > Controlpanel >notifications>reminders>autosnooze> AUTOSNOOZEMINS ......
Sorry for not displaying it like normal registry entries but I hope this is helpful, now I just have to find away of that annoying home screen problem.

Thanks for the Registry tip...I changed the registry and the MAX that it will snooze is 5 mins.....despite the amount you change the registry to!!!
It mentions something about the entry being a Hexidecimal??? I am not sure but I tried 15, 30, 45 and it only sleeps for 5 mins.
Any thoughts?

Thanks. I've searched around for this HKCU/Controlpanel/notifications/reminders/autosnooze/AUTOSNOOZEMINS key a little. What I found is that it decides for how long the reminder keeps bugging you, when you're not responding to it by either dismissing or delaying it. That's not really what we're looking for. Furthermore, I would like to have a choice for how long to delay it each single time, not just have a different generic delaying time.

This does the trick: HKLM/sysem/shell/notification/oem/usedefaultui=1 in stead of 0. It also changes the appearance of the reminder though.

Answer from HTC.
To my question, why I can not snooze with different intervals, I have got this answer:

I have installed Pocket Informant 8.51. Can this be the problem? How to solve it? I have not found the way how to snooze with different intervals.
Thanks!

Maybe they misinterpreted you because of the word snooze. Maybe you can snooze when you use the alarm clock to wake yourself up in the morning.
Have you read my previous post at all? It contains the solution!

The normal alarm function pops up a little requestor with an alarm clock at the top and a description of the alarm. The soft keys are snooze and dismiss. Pressing snooze or holding down snooze both have the same effect, the alarm is snoozed for 5 mins, there is no option to change the length of the snooze interval.

As I said: change HKLM/sysem/shell/notification/oem/usedefaultui=1 in stead of 0. That will give you different snooze options.

I sent an email to the Hong Kong HTC support centre. They did understand the problem was with Calendar reminders, but said that the snooze is fixed at 1 minute.
They have said they will pass on to the engineers a request for being able to choose different time periods, so I guess this could appear in a future firmware upgrade if enough other people ask for it too (hint hint!).
Meanwhile, I did the registry edit suggested by deechte and it now works in the usual (less pretty) Windows Mobile way. Thanks for this!
Ben

It seems a bit bizarre that somewhere there must have been a meeting where they decided that replacing the older version with the massively restricted new version was acceptable. Didn't anyone think at design time that the new implementation was a bit **** compared to the WM version?

Thanks deechte! The registry tweak worked like a charm on the Diamond2 - the original "Dismiss" and "Menu" were restored - when I clicked on "Menu", it gave me a big finger-friendly menu to choose the time to remind again - just like the standard WM6.1. Note: Had to restart the phone after the tweak before it takes effect.

Thanks it works

Glad I could be of help. I agree it's a pity that you get back the old-style menu. I prefer it's functionality though.

Calendar gives no reminders on Jasjar

Hello,
I am new on Windows Mobile, coming from Nokia 9500, so I feel a little bit stupid, because maybe I did something wrong.
So when I set a reminder in the calendar I hear nothing any more, neither a notification... abslutely nothing.
The reminders on Outlook on the PC just work normally on the same appointments.
Settings:
[email protected]:
Events : on ---- Programs + Notifications : on
Screen taps and hardware buttons :| off
Tab notifications, Event: reminders: Plays sound : on Alarm1
Dislplay message on screen and flashlight both are on
I did a soft reset, and I played a little bit with different sounds when the problem seemed to have begun.
When the PC however does the alarm it nicely switches the alarm off in the Jasjar.
My phone is quite useless without a calendar warning.
Huib
My Jasjar becomes quite useless without an agenda that warns
Nobody has a clue?
I can set the agenda but nothing happens. The time just passes but no warnings whatsoever.

Oh hell, sounds like the alarm bug may be making an appearance on WM5...that would be DISASTEROUS.
Do this for us; download trial version of Pocket Mechanic (www.antontomov.com) and go to the notifications queue module. Click the button marked "Dup" or "duplicates" and tell us if it found any dups, and if so what they are (they will be tagged and yellow).
Just in case it's a stupidly simple thing, check the following;
- Can u play the alarm1.wav file from file explorer?
- Are you DEFINITELY setting a reminder for each agenda entry
- Is this reminder set to go 0 minutes before (ie don;t set a reminder for 5 mins time with an alarm for 30 mins before)
- settings>sounds&notifications>alarms>ticked
- Volume not 0: turn volume to 0 then back up again

I may do the antontomov later.
yes I can play alarm1.wav from file explorer.
OK: appointment duration from 16:00 till 16:05
alarm ( " reminder" it is called) 5 minutes before..
at the settings I ticked the Reminder event on play sound and repeat.
I do not see a volume option however.
I see options for flash light ( did never work) and vibration ( the same) I have the feeling it is not so much a sound problem as a problem that nothing is triggered when the moment is there.

Calendar Reminders confusing!!
I find this calendar thing pretty confusing too. I came to the conclusion that the reminder comes in the form of an on-screen notification and not an alarm, which seems pretty stupid, as you don't want to keep pulling your phone out to see if you have any appointments! :?
I hope I'm wrong, but could someone more knowledgeable in this area please clarify how to get an audible reminder in conjunction with an on-screen one please. And for the record, I know how to set a basic alarm, I just need to be reminded by sound or vibration of my appointments, else I can't get the true benefits of a personal digital assistant!
Wont modifying the "Reminders" settings in the notification tab of "Sounds and Notifications" do it for you???

I am sure it gave me an audible alarm before I ran into problems. Of course the agenda can warn you if working properly; also with a flash light even(!) or vibrato.

Well to be honest.... I have managed to get sound working on it before...I just can't remember what I did!
Please, if anyone has the time please explain how I get an alarm to ring in conjunction with the on-screen reminder. For example, when I go go into the calendar app and see the time slots for any given date, I assumed you could simply enter what you wanted reminding of, in that particular timeslot, and then choose to be reminded every 2 hours or something!!??!! I'm a bit perplexed by this. My SE700i worked in this fashion and I never got to grips with the PPC way of doing this. The bloody manual doesn't explain this either!

You're absolutely right about how to set the reminder, but the type of reminder (sound, message, vibrate) is set in Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications Tab > Change Event to "Reminders" and see what the settings are? Give it a go, I'm sure you must have "Display message on screen" ticked and "Play sound" unticked?

Thanks for thinking about my problem but I checked those settings out very prcisely.
I have ticked: play sound and repeat. I also have the display message ticked. I Use Alarm1 to keep it simple.
It is however possible that here is where the problem started.
Other problem, maybe related, is, that the phone ringtone sound can sometimes change in the last installed personal ringtone.
I changed it back of course.
I have a lot of people given a ringtone with their name in it, to take away the need of opening to see who is calling.
instead of a sound I record : this is John etc etc. But of course not new to your guys.
Works great, but sometimes my phone ring changes in e.g. " peter calling" as main ring tone.
But in the calendar case there is not even a reminder on the screen. The phone is just no triggering at all.

Oh....baffled then. Sorry!

SOunds like hard-reset time dudes!
Just in case you think it's a missing feature that you have to live with, it's not: the calendar DOES alarm for every reminder, provided you set that. You get an on-screen notification and sound - depending on your settings. Further, this can be defaulted so that every new appointment does this without you having to think about it. Exactly the same as all previous PPC devices.
I had the same problem.

This will be my first reset in Windows world ever.
Any tips and hints what to take care of before pushing the button?
I come from Nokia 9200 and up and there was a great backup facility before you hard reset.
As backup software is not available: Any tips and hints on what to write down before I do it?
I also saw that Windows may come with separate upgrade software.

See 'Help' application for Reminders in Calendar!!
Stupid me! There's an in depth guide on hoe to use the calendar with Reminders in the 'Help' application on the Jasjar. Too many options for my liking, just confusing matters. basically, alot of the options are for syncing purposes and if no else has access to your PC, it really won't matter wether you set-up categories or not, unless you need your contacts etc grouped.
Bottom line, buy an easier to use application.
Alarm bug? What's that?
Some time ago I installed and played a NES emulator on my xda for a few hours wearing the headset, and after that two things happened; Sound didn't work, it got permanently stuck on headset mode (I fixed that) and 2), the clock disappeared from the upper menu bar, never to return. Alarms didn't work (at all) from that point either. Prior to this it had worked 90% of the time, with some mysterious exceptions that I think maybe your "alarm bug" could explain.

How can I get more reminder snooze options in WM5?

Hi!
Is there a way to get more snooze options in the reminder bubble?
In WM2003 there was 1 day, 8 hours, 2 hours and 1 hours. But in WM5 there's only 1 day, 1 hour and 15 minutes. It's relly frustrating to snooze a reminder 23 times (if i set a 1 day in advance reminder) to be able to get the reminder 1 hour before the event starts.
I've searched the forums and internet in general but haven't found anything. Does anyone here know how to add reminder options in WM5?
\\ aste
I am also looking for this, anyone knows ?
Any news?
Just a suggestion. After setting it for the 1 day reminder, and being alerted by the device at that time, why don't you just edit the event and set the new time for 15 minutes before? No snooze in that, just a new reminder time.
G'luck
phoneAlarm by PocketMax lets you do this, if it helps...
Edit: Actually - sorry, after re-reading, I'm not sure it does the snoozing thing. Apologies.
To change the entire event will take much more time than just snoozing it for extra XX minutes or hours.
Phonealarm is a great application, but it impact alarm repeat or sound, but doesn't customize snooze menu :-(.
I know this may sound weird, but if there is a specific list of "obvious" updates or changes that NEED to be made, let me know. I have an old friend from high school that works for MS on the WM5 project. I do believe the snooze stuff should be changable. Where you can alter what you want your snooze functions to be. But anyway, about the list. Is someone compiles a list, i'll be glad to pass it on to him.
Any more news on this topic.
Does anyone know if we can change a registery setting?
I am also looking for a way to either change or add different snooze times..! The standard snooze options are SO FRUSTRATING...!

Media Player needs some fixes...
-option to make it always use storage card even if storage card temporarily disappears
-in library, the back button functionality needs to be accessable via a left dpad click. there misht be another one that causes me to have to tap the screen when it needs to all work from dpad/softkeys
-option to remember what track and what time in track (a must for listening to audiobooks)
I agree on snoozes as well, I want a 7 hour snooze to remind me of stuff before I leave work.
I can understand wanting more options. But this one I've never seem to have gotten. Isn't the point of a reminder to remind you of something at the time you scheduled it? I mean if you weren't planning on doing something when the reminder goes off why did you schedule it for that time? Isn't the point of these devices to make us more productive not procrastinators? I dunno I'm sure someone will have a valid argument. Cheers.
I've always found using progs like Calendar + useful for knowing what's coming up a day or two in advance. If I were to schedule a reminder a day before it happens I'll sure as hell forget about it as soon as I snooze it anyway. But that's just me. I have virtually no memory. I'm like a Palm Treo 650.
JuicePPC -- remember that it is not only calendar reminders that show up on the Reminder list, but also tasks and other activities which are flagged with a reminder. I often use Tasks (or an email, or even a simple Calendar entry, etc.) flagged with a reminder as my "To Do" list. If I am busy with another task when my Reminder goes off I will snooze it for however long I expect my current activity will take until I can address the "To Do" item, or Task.

I might be at work and get a reminder to ring a mate. I'll snooze it for 10 minute.
But then get called into a meeting and get the reminder again - I'll then want to snooze it for maybe 30 minutes or 2 hours (neither available), to avoid getting embarasing reminder bleeps.
Having "setable" snooze options is such a no-brainer i'm hardly surprised that Microsoft forgot about them.

WM5 Vibrate Timing

Hope this is the correct forum to post this in.
I am looking for someone to kindly develop a utility that will allow me to alter the standard 5 seconds that the vibrate option is set for within WM5.
As far as I am aware there is nothing out there that does this. HTC support in the UK simply say they don't have an option for doing this (thank you very much, not).
To make myself absolutely clear I am looking for a utility that will allow me to vary and set the length of time the vibrate function works for. The current deafult of 5 seconds not only uses up too much battery power but is a pain to use in a business environment.
The utility should ideally allow me to set the vibrate length to anything I want from 1 to, say, 5 secs in single second steps.
If anyone is able to develop a fully tested tool for this then please let me know.
Many thanks in advance.
WB
@wb: You dont need a tool for this. You can simply make a few simple changes to the registry as shown here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
If you want to change the settings quite frequently, and find editing registry again and again cumbersome, creating a tool for this shouldn't be too difficult and i'll make it when I get time but first try it by hand and see that if it works for you...
Nice tweak but it won't survive a profile switch!
It goes back to default.
Is there a way to make a permanent change?
Secondly, which script should I use if I want, when I receive a call or SMS,
the phone to play the ringtone and at the same time vibrate every 3 seconds for 1 second?
Shantz,
I definitely need a tool for this.
The registry tweak in the wiki only works if you have ring and vibrate set together. In that instance the vibrate lasts for the duration set for the ringtone.
If you set the phone to vibrate only it will ONLY vibrate for the standard 5 secs. It WILL NOT vibrate for any other time period set by the registry change you refer to.
Trust me, I have played with this for hours and got nowhere. I have also been in touch with HTC who confirm that on vibrate only the phone will ALWAYS default to the standard 5 secs as there is no script within WM5 that will allow one to set parameters around the vibrate timelength only.
So to summarise; you can change the vibrate time period so that it aligns with that of the ringtone; however if the phone is on vibrate and you get a notification come through, eg a text message, it will vibrate for the standard 5 secs set within WM5, irrespective of the settings of the registry tweak you refer to in the wiki. The only time the vibrate will use the settings set in the registry key is if you get a phone call come through, in which case it will vibrate for the same length of time set for the ringtone, else it does not work. Hope this is clear.
So can you help please?
Thanks
WB
so then why don't you make an empty ringtone - no sound but a ringtone file nonetheless? With that ringtone selected you say yourself you can vary the length.
Hufkes,
Because that's not what I am looking for. Your suggestion is an inelegant fix, akin to sticking plaster, not a solution.
I don't want to be fiddling about with the phone just before I go into a meeting to set a blank ringtone. I prefer to do what I do now: 2 taps and vibrate is engaged, full stop.
That's why I need a tool that can allow the user to set the vibrate length, something Microsoft should have thought of in the first place!
Anyway thanks for your input.
WB
hey wb: I will make u a tool for this...but ull have to wait for some time...i have an interview coming up next week, so not much time right now...
Yes please me too when you get a chance. Been the thing I have missed the most.
GOOD LUCK with the interview too

WB
Hey wb,
am sorry the interview has been rescheduled for this sunday...so though I do have "some" time but not enough to put into coding, i'm using that extra time to get some extra rest as the past few weeks have been quite hectic, especially the last week where i spent quite a lot of time studying...but dont worry i have a kinda layout in my mind for ur needs...will work on it as soon as im free...
OK mate, cheers.
You had better get that job! Good luck.
WB
finally had the telephonic interview just a couple of minutes ago...lets see if they call me or not..
btw ill start working on ur prog tmrw night if i dont have to go to a frnd's wedding..
I wish you luck.
In terms of the development of this tool, what I had in mind was, say, a script that would pop up some kind of dialogue box which would then allow you to set the duration of the vibrate. Duration could be from 1 seconds to the current 5, in 1 second steps, set either from a drop-down menu or chosen from 5 available time options presented on screen.
Once the vibrate length is set in this way then I would expect to be able to switch vibrate on, as one does now, and then have the vibrate for an incoming message (NOT a telephone call as the vibrate frequency works differently for this) occur for the set duration eg 1 sec or whatever.
Hope this makes sense. If you need more detail in terms of how I see this working, let me know.
Thanks again.
WB
hey wb,
i've just started on the proggie.. However it does not seem possible\feasible to "set" it using the earlier native way. I can fulfill the other options and give u an exe. Whenever u want to set the vibra mode with ur options, u can tap on it or bind to a hardware button. Is that ok?
wb, can you download the attached file and run it on ur ppc. check when u tap (or dbl tap) then does ur device vibrate...just checking whether the vibration code works on ur device or not...
Made a sample app for u...try this and let me know...
just tap on app to create start and stop shortcuts...then click on start shortcut to add notification for device to vibrate for 5 seconds on incoming sms.
jus check and lemme know if it works..this is a very quick implementation so i'll have to keep my fingers crossed
Hello Shantz,
Seems like you got over your illness then.
Just got home and seen your message. Have downloaded the Vibra file to the Tytn.
I ran it and it created the Start & Stop shortcuts as you indicated. Tapped on the Start shortcut but nothing happens. I guess this was not what you were expecting?
Just to be sure I soft booted and ran the whole lot again, same result.
Cheers
WB
yeah, am almost fit now...the fever's fully gone and tonsilitis is almost 60-70% cured..
actually, i had attached two different versions to this thread.
the first version will just make ur phone vibrate for 2 seconds instantaneously.
The 2nd version will not do anything at the very instant when you tap the start shortcut, but will start listening to incoming sms's. When you receive an sms, it will vibrate for 5 seconds...this was the intended behaviour..So let me know if you see anything happening on receiving an sms..
wb, I've found out why the app might not have been working. I use smssetmessagenotification api to notify my app whenever an sms arrives, now I found out online that there are 2 problems related to this:
1. This API is known not to work reliably, infact i found only a handful of ppl out of hundreds who cud get it working and that too sporadically.
2. Ppl suggest that even if interception of sms notification works (by this api or any other method), then ur normal sms functionality will be lost as this notification goes only to the first available receiver and is not "passed-through" to all the listeners.
I'll do some more digging on this but looks like wht u want might not be possible after all (atleast without a "slower" workaround, I think i can set a notification alert on the "unread sms" registry entry and diff it with previous value for any notification to see if there is a new msg and then run the vibra thing...will that work for u?)

Regedit for alternative Snooze times?

Anyone out there know if I/we can regedit the Snooze times and/or add to the list available (e.g., _ Snooze .5 day) in the menu when a reminder pops up within WM5's calendar, please?
I've found similar query here but no answer.
Thanks for your thoughts/help, Phonuzer
I would like to know also.
Bump
I've checked all over MS Mobile and while people are looking for an answer - MS has nothing to offer.
I'm still holding out for someone here to have a solution.
Again, thanks for any help.
What, no answer; too tough for you?
Given all of the bright minds collected at this site, is it unreasonable for me to assume that an answer to my query is beyond any xda-developer member's capacity?
I would like to think not.
Again, thank you for any constructive response.
Is there already a solution? The default snooze times for reminders are not very useful.
I would love to find a way to add some different snooze times, or even add a "custom" button to the bottom of the list so that you could set any amount of time you wish.
Having no choices between 1 and 24 hours causes a ton of problems for me. I'm always having to snooze certain reminders in one hour increments many times in a row throughout the day.
I would gladly pay for software to add this functionality, but I haven't been able to find any.

this cab will revert the fancy but not so practical reminder with the "old" one with all the snooze option.

Klaxon confusion?? can u help

Hi all
I'm trying out Klaxon alarm clock.
Can anyone tell me the purpose / function of the "bell" button (bottom 2nd from right in attached image).
When I'm setting up an alarm, clicking on it just toggles making it lit up/not. If I press the play button it always plays an alarm tone (beep) whether the bell button is pressed or not. Very confusing and as usual with all these little apps there is no manuals or instructions anywhere.
Thanks for any help
Bell icon in klaxon
When bell icon is 'lit' it means the alarm is active. When bell icon is 'unlit' it means alarm is inactive.
Thanks for the reply qai5er
Stil confused. If I go in an edit /create a new alarm, why would I want to make th ealarm inactive???? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron ?
Also, when I click on the "play" button it plays an alarm beeping regardless of whether the alarm is active or inactive. Surely if I make the alarm inactive, then the play button should play nothing and perhaps tell me "nothing to play, alarm inactive"...??
also as well as the questions above, can anyone tell me what the items mean on the alarm config page . . .
Snooze (min) I assume this is the snooze time
Expire (Min) - what is this?
Delay (Sec) - what is this?
Many thanks to anyone who can help

No, it is'nt. This is an important feature to me at least. Just because I have set up the alarm does not mean that there is'nt situation when I do not need it. Let me give you an example. I may have an alarm to remind me to pick up my children after school. During school holidays, I would make it inactive, and I would reactivate it when the school starts. I could delete it during school holiday and recreate it I suppose but that's too troublesome.
You might find good use of this in the future.
Since Klaxon seems to work witout any problems on your devices I was wondering if you could tell me which settings you chose.
I have installed Klaxon and checked all boxes in the settings-menu, but the alarm won't work.
Instead of the Klaxon alarm the standard WM-alarm start at the specified time, but ends after a few seconds by itself (probably because Klaxon wants to start its alarm?).
Could you give me any advice?
TIA

and I repeat my previous questions incase they get lost in the conv

What does the options "Integrate with TouchFlo3D" and "Forcibly remove windows Alarm" do?
I see no difference in touch flo nor in the normal windows alarms. Even if I touch clock in touch flo windows alarm is opened.

None - it doesn't seem to work.
However, I've installed SSMapa (2 files copied into /windows and then when opening up settings I get 2 questions - accept these). Second - start SSMapa, do an init, find time / clock and set up program exactly as typed:
/Program/Klaxon/Klaxon.exe
Set directory:
/Program/Klaxon
Chose save. Then deploy. You get 2-3 worrysome questions about removing signed exe files - answer yes. Restart device for simplicity sake or wait a moment and you'll get 2-3 questions about MP???.exe answer yes. Now you have Klaxon integrated completely into your interface. Meaning that when alarm sounds, Klaxon pops up. When you click the time - Klaxon is opened. No more useless WM time settings.

I have tried this but I cannot seem to find Klaxon.exe whether it is installed on my device or on my Storage card, I am not sure what to do.
Nevermind, got it working after LOTS of messing around
at least 2 people have now said that they managed to sort it out, but didn't explain how they did it.
to the people who are now able to use klaxon as a normal alarm, can you please share what settigns you had to change to get the alarm to play (say, a mp3), and then snooze for x minutes ?
thanks
I ended up uninstalling it as it was too unreliable. It was a bit slow to start up and also the alarm always went off late when integrated with TouchFlo (not sure if S2U2 was causing this). Back on the standard alarm now and it actually goes off at the right time now, which is a bonus.

I guess that the Expire is the how long the alarm wanto keep snoozing.
Let say yr snooze time is 5 mins. And yr expire time is 30 mins. Means it will only snooze for 6 times.. then it expired..

U can chooose the ringtone (MP3) from the 'sound logo' which is left to the 'Play' logo. From there u go search for yr MP3 file from yr folders. But remember to lit up the 'bell' logo or else it wont sound. Also pls close the light sensor which i found it is troublesome which yr alarm wont sound after 1st snooze.
