Hey everybody.
I'm looking for a dev to cooperate with to eliminate all the remaining windows mobile "styled" stuff (notes, explorer, settings etc.) on our htc devices. I say "remaining" because htc has covered up quite a lot now with their own apps.
Here is a concept of what could be the design for the notes app. Tell me any changes you want me to make!

really great idea what are the various things that needs reskinning. i say you do your work in several steps
1.how about you simply start with re-skinning the programs and settings folders and make the bottom tabs in settings more finger friendly
2. also the dialog boxes are still not finger friendly with the latest tf3d but that was solved with fingermenu1.11
3. reskin the various applications (like appointments, time,phone settings...etc) to be finger friendly
its a really big project really wish you the best of luck.

thank you very much but for the apps I didn't think of new skins, more like new apps.
Picture of my notes concept added.

Does anyone know how to create a shortcut to Settings?
I've just recently bought and installed ProgramMenuPlus to cascade my Start Menu but only thing is that it doesn't handle the Settings menu so I need a shortcut to be placed on the Programs Menu.
Can someone help?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/ppc_tcuts2.asp
I have all of my control panel plus some extras as a cascading menu in SmallMenu, with icons. If you want, I can zip them up and send them over.

thanks Vijay, you're a legend on this boards. I managed to work out that with ProgramMenuPlus, you can add an extra icon on top of the normal Start Menu (just like in Seymour) and have dual Start Menus (the MenuPlus & the original Menu).
By the way, am looking thru the list of apps you wrote...I like the VJLumos, it adds that extra brightness at night for reading and makes a good flashlight
Keep up the good work champ!!
I actually use SmallMenu and ProgramMenu.
This is my SmallMenu replacing the start menu. I never use the start menu anymore (and obviously this is without using ToggleToday, for clarity):

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then I use a much smaller ProgramMenu menu assigned to my contacts key, to just load up PIM stuff etc very quickly, eg calendar, contacts blah blah. That way it's even faster then navigating SmallMenu's submenus... I launch it with my thumb, navigate up/down with dpad and enter. Very quick..I really like SmallMenu.
Thanks for your comments
VJLumos is very much for those who like to live on the edge, but the effect is certainly worth seeing. i wonder why they didn't implement the brighter screen to begin with! I've been doing some slow work to find a better way to implement it, but I'm waiting on some slightly better tools before I can finish it...

Hello,
I hope this isn't an obvious question, as I'm new to developing apps for pocket PCs.
I'm writing my first Windows Mobile application (in C#, using Visual Studio 2008). The user interface I'm trying to build is very similar to the inbox of Pocket Outlook, and I want a "Sort by..." drop down list at the top right hand corner - I've attached a screenshot showing what I mean.
I've seen several programs - including third-party ones - use this control, but I can't find it in Visual Studio. Is it a pre-existing control (either in .NET or somewhere else), or do I have to make it by hand?
Thanks a lot.

Is DocumentList what you want?

Thanks for your reply Koterpillar. I want it to look like a DocumentList, but without it being tied to file browsing. For example in the right-hand drop down, instead of "Name, Date, Size, Type", I might want to have "Caller, Priority, etc". The same with the left hand drop down - instead of a list of directories, I need to have custom strings.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again.
How about a Combo Box? I am just getting started in phone programming, but this is a standard control for desktop programs.

Thanks for your reply. Well, a ComboBox provides basically the same functionality, but it doesn't really have the same look. I was hoping to be consistent with other applications that use this type of control.
This control is not available in the .NETCF framework.
There might be some 3rd party implementations though which can be found on the web. But I think in most cases you'll have to pay for it.
Finding it hard getting effective instructions how to change skins on SPB Mobile Shell 2.1
I've downloaded files and been instructed "to replace files in the SPB folder on the device and then perform hard reset"
This has the effect of producing a kind of hybrid between the default and what I'm trying to install.
I presume this is because some files are left over from the previous skin.
If anybody knows of any good tutorials or can help I'd appreciate it. I know I might get bombarded with "use the search" and such like but I've spent what seems like most of my life since I got my Touch Diamond on this forum.
I really need to stay away.....customising this machine is addictive.
Try this one and let me know.

Thanks for the reply but no good unfortunately. Generally buggy, skins installed result in overlaps (clock over calendar, calendar under sms/mms etc)
Poor quality icons, no preview of what you are selecting in the numerous customisation options.Bit of a mess really.
I can't help you with a tutorial, but I know there is a dedicated thread in the "General" section of this forum. Also, the SPB Cub forum has very much covered about this topic.
You just import the .dat into the SPB Mobile Shell directory, and that's all you have to do. Also, make sure the theme is for VGA device and not QVGA device, that would cause your theme to overlap and all kind of mess.
Here's mine screen and everything look just fine.

Hi
I am sure that I am not alone when I look at the new WM6.5 Start Menu and it just looks plain bloody ugly where it was once honeycomb and now all the icons are spaced oddly in rows of 3 icons then the next row below has only two and on and on..
Is it possible to go more down the line of having them all line up both horizontally and vertically.
See below mock up please.

That would look nice. Also, how about being able to arrange alphabetically?
My thoughts exactly
Can't be that hard. But since i'm using Launchpad nowadays, i'm not gonna make it

Would be cool as above Launchpad & Launchmanager are good progs but an app to replicate WM6.1 menu with Start Menu hook and the ability to change background "and other tweaks" would be sweeeet
If you have any luck let me know! It seems that the honeycomb is forced. The only way I could get it half-decent was a single column (i.e. a list). For more details, look at:

And with reStart you can tweak it still a bit more like changing folders, arrange icons etc

Looks Good
I'm just thinking about all the apps I currently use on my Kaiser and how they'll work on the HD2 and i've got a quick question!
Assuming i leave all the HTC stuff as it is - how will I access apps that I currently access through the quicklaunch bar?
Examples of these apps are:
Magicall (used to screen/block calls)
PhoneWeaver (for customised profiles)
Pocketcontroller (remote desktop)
Also - does anyone know if SBSH's "Calendar Touch" integrates well?
Grateful for any feedback
(here's my current homescreen to show what i mean by the quicklaunch bar - in case i'm naming it wrong!)

You've got the choice of TouchFLO, Titanium (Windows Default, as it's called), or the old skool Today screen, as you've pictured.
I'd recommend playing with the first 2 before deciding how to set the phone up, as they offer a great deal of choice, especially with the excellent modding community on here.
There's a bunch of "buttons" on the home page of TouchFLO that allow you quick access to apps, contacts, or bookmarks, and you can arrange that as you like, so I assume that will give you the same thing that you currently have.
Hope this helps
Thanks
I know about the application shortcuts - but i'm not sure they'd offer the same functionality. For instance, when i tap on the PhoneWeaver button, it brings up a list of what profiles i can switch to etc, if i make a shortcut, i think it'll just load the program.
BTW remote desktop can be troublesome without stylus. I suggest you try it somehow before you buy it.

Oh right, I mean the other way round (remoting onto the phone from the PC)
