Hi guys.. i am very bored of the standard custom icons shown into Start-> Programs... so tonight i have done a cab which installs a "minimum.dll" file, which is an icon library, and who make follow dirs into the menu:
Applications
Games
Internet
Multimedia
Phone
System
Utility
Mobile Office
Network
In every dir there is an icon. file which has a string inside:
#\Windows\minimum.dll,-4
By changing the number, you can assign a different icon to the folder you're in.
If some rom cooker wants its custom set of icons.. pm me.. HERE is a good archive of icons
Attached the CAB, no need to reboot, & image of avaiable icons in Minimum icon set and its relative code.

Nice work dear. Applause for it..
I think I will try to Cook my own rom using this. Thank will let you know how it works.
For Italian friends who asked for... tonight i'll post 3 Icons pack in cab format, note that the one posted is in english (..just rename folders' name in "programmi" directory
be patient
Ok guys, i have no time to make the cabs because i'm very busy at this time, however it's VERY SIMPLE.
All is explained in the first post (concerning the icon.lnk file inside the folder to skin).
In each zip there is the dll, to copy in \windows, and an image which describes the icon number.
If someone provide me some good icons, i'll pack them into a dll file.
To see the name of iconpack's image, wait with the mouse over and erad the filename.jpg
Thanks a lot mate
Youre the man!
I tried..
God job, thanks for information & sharing
hi there. Very good job but i can't understand how to install them
Lovely
I like this a lot!!
It is VGA icons? Or QVGA?
both resolutions
Great, Thanks a lot.
How do I create my own .dll? I have a lot of icons but no instruction to create a .dll of them.
If there a chance to pimp the folder background from white to some other colour or picture?

Hi SkizZO, How do I create my own .dll?
Thank you.
You have to pack 16x16,32x32, 64x64 images to an .ico file, or edit an .ico file deleting unwanted resolutions...
Then group all icons, numbered & ordered in an "Icon library"
I've used ArtIcons Pro to do this. The icon library has the .icl extension.
Now you have to compile it into a dll (I have used GConvert)
Remember that WM supports 256 colors icons, so if you use more colors, is wasted space.
PS: Post your icons here!!!
any chance i could use some folders with the same style as the ones already on my phone? ie the yellow games folder etc...
Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm trying to change the icon of a shortcut I created to Resco Photo Viewer and then tried to change the Icon with a PNG to no avail. Is this even possible?
SK ShortcutCreator, somewhere in development thread is another one Shortcutmaker. U'll have to convert it to dll or icl but there a loads of apps to manipulate with icons....(for PC)
Hello Everyone,
I would like to know how I can create a .dll file with Icons (.ico)
You know like shellres32.dll in windows, or other dll files you could download from the net containing icons, which allow you to change icons for maps on your mobile, laptop, etc...
So basicly what I need is a program which allows me to create .dll files.
The icons (.ico) I already have.
Thanks in advance!

No one that has expierence creating a dll file (containing ico files)?
i remember a thread in "development & hacking" forum where were posted a bunch of icons and also a dll containing the same icons... But i'm too lazy to search back, so give a shot there. If i'm not wrong the icons were iphone ones
Ok i was searching since friday and found nothing, can someone please tell me which dll files if they are, that contains system icons in the xperia, some of the icons are a bit ugly and I wanna change em
i also need to know the files that contain the folder icons and the start menu icon (window flag)
thanks in advance
my intention is to create different sets of icons for the xperia, i.e. vista, kde, ubuntu, etc
i have an APICAL GPS
youtube[dot]com/watch?v=urX3rERYZf4
running the same menu as this one
youtube[dot]com/watch?v=wS37diJR0Q0
it has two skins
one has a "Mini Cooper" car with flashing spotlights
the other menu skin has a simpler green theme
i want to create green-themed matching power-on splash and iGoPrimo splash bitmaps
I think the green-themed menu BMPs are contained in
\ResidentFlash2\bin\Main\Main_Skin2.bin
.. this is in the attached Main_Skin2.zip file (also includes TotalConfig .ini's)
but i do not know how to extract them, i have tried many unarchivers, i think they use LZMA, as this is a common header in many of the Apical menu .bin files
the menu system is controlled by a program called "TotalConfig", but i have not been able to find any information on this on the www
does any one know how to extract these BMPs or have any information on the Apical/TotalConfig menu system
thanks in advance from New Zealand
the 800x480 menu files i am looking for are
residentflash2-bin-Main-Fore2-*.bmp
residentflash2-bin-Main-Animate2-*.bmp
residentflash2-bin-Main-MainLayer2-*.bmp
and maybe any *.ini file relating to GPSAni*.bmp
mine are all archived into a single *.bin file, but in earlier versions they are separate files in separate folders ... these files will give me enough menu elements to make some matching splash screens .... i don't need to modify the apical menu itself

Why not simply search the WEB? Many icon-sets around, from which you can pick out those "menu elements" which match your needs.
Herr.J
have figured this out
need a tool called Apical IMaGe DECoder by SiL (AIDEC.zip) (attached)
find an appropriate firmware package
run the command
AIDEC.EXE winCEapp.img
and residentFlash2 files are written to a folder named 'winCEapp_out' which AIDEC creates
that has given me all the BMP elements to create 'power-on' * and 'primo' splash screens ** that match the green-theme menu#2 stored in residentFlash2
now, as the GPS changes states from bootup > (menu >) Primo > menu, all the backgrounds are the same and other elements match
... pity the Apical menus are sooooo ugly, and the Apical AtlasVI menus are partially locked up, but extracting some AtlasV winCEapp.img firmware gave me all the menu bitmap elements i needed, along with every other file that would be written to residentFlash2 if that firmware were to be installed
danke, Ant

====
* static logo.bmp or <2MB animated logo.gif copied to microSD / SDMMC; automatically updates boot splash screen logo if 'logo.bmp' or 'logo.gif' is present on microSD, and microSD is inserted in GPS before power up; after automatically updating splash screen logo, power off GPS, remove microSD, and restart GPS
this worked for my particular GPS******, yours could be different, see 4pna[dot]com/showthread.php?t=5903

I do not know the features of your device,
but I'll send link's for Apical and perhaps with translation
find some firmware and menu that suits you the most.

Good job !
I know this is a old topic... but how do you compress the images back to the bin file after modifying the images ? and then back to the img..?
i didn't, i made an animated GIF from the menu elements, and used that as the boot image, instead of the pre-existing single image BMP.
Just put the animated GIF on a empty micro-SD card, call it logo.gif, boot up the GPS with the micro-SD card inserted, and the animated GIF will be copied automatically to the GPS and become the new boot screen ... ie the boot picture is not included in the .bin/.img
