Hello all,
I have noticed a small GPS lag on the Iolite (using Igo8 or Tomtom7). basically, the position shown on the phone is 50m behind the actual position when driving at normal speed.
Did you notice the same thing ?
Cheers,
koa

It´s normal, not a iolite-problem, on other devices too (I has an HTC Artemis with the same effect). In other forums like "gpspassion" the problem is knowen and fixed. Must use google, U will find some solutions.

Do you have a link? I searched gpspassion but could only find a thread about reading about this problem on xda-dev. Too much recursivity for me.

I was searched for you in google: http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?t=25428
Also try here:

Oh thanks, I thought there was a specific fix, but I will try these tips and see.
Is this problem solved? I wanna by Iolite, and don't want to have any problems with GPS.
BTW, is there any comparison between Iolite's gpsone module and sirfstar 3?
I'm also curious if these tips solved the problems.
My experience is that if I take a turn from the highway, my TomTom lost me for quit some time. It shows a map where I go halfway straight on and after some time it shows a "diagonal road". Looks like a drunk seaman.
After closing TT and restarting it's allright.
I think it's also time for a good firmware upgrade anyhow.

ive done a quick search but couldnt find a definate answer, but has anyone managed to find out what is causing tomtom to lock up on the tytn?
If so, does anyone have a fix for it? Its getting rather annoying now!
I feel your pain....
There's nothing that pisses me off more than when a pirated piece of software doesn't work right.
You may want to see if this problem is fixed when the software is officially released. My guess is that you are using an early beta version (but still pirated) which will have problems.
You could always call TomTom support and get help that way. I'm sure they'd be glad to help you.

Press a hardware button (I use the "hang up" phone button). It will throw in some other app (in my cas the phone app) but you can switch back to TomTom and things should be still working.
You might look for an update to TomTom6 and/or ask TomTom support (that is, if you have a copy that is legit )

TT6 is running just fine on my Tytn, no lockups during the first week in operation, using it daily.
I had this loads on mine. To get round it hold down the power button until you get the message about turning off the device. Say no and it will unlock.
What's weird is that after doing this on mine it hasn't locked up since.
I had this on mine. It was because I was displaying all of my POI's. I turned them all off except for speed camera's and I've had no lockup's since. It also runs smooth as ailk now whereas before it was very jerly during 3D navigation.
Tom Tom 6 - What BT GPS are you using?
Can anyone recommend a good BT GPS for use with TT?
I had the same trouble..
I was using the massive Western Europe map (540mb+) and switched to the UK map (100mb) and this seemed to fix the problem.
I thought I was having trouble with my memory card (Sandisk 2gb) but all seems ok now.

Was there really any need for that?
Hello people. Tried to search the forum for this but nothing came up. I have a swedish Xperia and have flashed it a couple of times with different roms but have now returned to stock spl and what I think is the original rom.
Didnt have problems with the GPS in the beginning and it started causing problems when I started flashing, working now and then. Now I have no function what so ever.
Anyone got an idea?
Is it possible to "update" the phone wia the sony ericsson update utility to the original rom, my roms doesnt feel so original, dont even have a calculator.
My GPS doesnt seem to work very well either.. Even with newly downloaded GPS Satellite info, it cant seem to find a lock :\

That's what Im saying. Have you been flashing yours or is it straight from the box?
Sticky a GPS thread?
I propose that one of these GPS problem threads be made sticky since we cannot simply search "GPS" here and the GPS problems seem to be accumulating.
With that said, I would have to say that my GPS performance is pretty terrible. At first, it felt like doing the QuickGPS thing and/or deleting the xtra.bin file helped. For the most part, though, getting a lock has proven quite sporadic. What should the expectation here be? Should I expect the GPS to work reliably indoors? What about if I am near a window? Why would it work in some buildings near a window and not in others?
My personal opinion is that the GPS should work within 15-20 feet of a window. Using Chartcross GPS Test, even when the GPS is locked, I am getting mostly yellow bars. I am not exactly sure what a good reading looks like on Chartcross, but there appears to be a 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% bar. Maybe the 25% bar is 100%? In any event, I rarely have a satellite that is getting above what I suspect to be 30%.
Is there a thread somewhere that details what the various fields mean and/or should read in Chartcross or a similar utility? I am coming up on my 30 days to return the phone, so if someone thinks that my device may be defective please speak up!
Thanks as always XDA-ers!
Hi,i am having a very strange GPS problem:
-ALL THE SATTELITES ARE SHOWN ON 1 LOCATION AT THE SAME TIME!!!
I serched over the net ,but can't find any solution yet, reinstalled different ROM's,hard reset & etc.-no result!
If someone has this problem or could help,I will be very # thankful!
Regards
i've seen this many a time, until closer to when i get a fix -- i think it starts out thinking they're all north of you, then works out their locations bit by bit as it works on getting you a fix
if you can show the same positioning once you've got a fix, then i would say something was wrong
Hello,
quite suddenly, my GPS signal got instable. It happens in several software programs so it really seems to be the signal that is not correct. It gets a fix quite easily, but position is off mucht of the time, and also the direction and alitude are wrong. I attached a profile recorded during a car ride, here in Holland everything is flat, the profile should have been around 0m height all the time. But you can see it goes from -180m to +20m. Everytime when there is a jump, there is also a jump in the location. Before I do a hard reset I wanted to check if this has happened to anyone else before?
Also, I ran Android before, but the swtiching back and forth has not given this issue before.
I can confirm that the GPS time is exactly 2 hours behind !
Edit:
also the direction and Altitude are different from the "Navigon" (native device)
GPS uses now UTC-1 as Timezone ??
It was previously UTC+1 Timezone

You asked I answered , now you see you're not the only one with this problem
You're welcome!
Hard reset also does not solve the problem. One thing is clear that the bug is in the android, in determining UTC "only one row of letters" (the code) must be changed: that GPS should use local system time and everything will work correctly, however I am not so talented to get it solved.

I still don't understand why the time is the problem. I think it is normal that in western europe, the time is UTC+2 in summer and UTC+1 in winter. So to me this looks normal. If I look at the raw track file, the time stamp for each line is ok, but the position/altitude info is unstable. But today, everything was fine again. So I get lost a bit, and I will keep a track on what happens and record it here again.

Have you tried using RunKeeper to rule out software problems?

Ok, it's always good to rule out the basic things first. I use RunKeeper and it works like a charm, however I'm not overly concerned about accuracy as long as it keeps track on my activity as a whole (biking).
There are a few setting you can change for the GPS using MFG. You can find the GPS settings under 7.Engineering Menu -> 2.Device Test -> 6.Sensor Test -> 4.GPS Test -> 2.GPS Setting.
I'm no GPS expert so I can't really say what you should change, but I'm sure you could find that info around these boards.
Hope it helps at least a little bit.
