[HELP] Data Connection (Not Disconnecting After MMS) - Touch HD General

Hay all,
I've got a major problem here and I'm not sure if it's a common Blackstone thing or if I can stop it.
Basicly after I recieve a Media Message (MMS) or send one the data connect stays active.
I'm on Orange and it uses Orange Internet as thats the only data connect info I can find on the phone (when sending a MMS it show up as Orange MMS in the little info bubble at the top)
Is there a way so that after I recieve an MMS or send one it automaticlly dissconects like on the Nokia Phones?
As this could cost me a fortune having an active connection open an not relising.
Thanks

There are several ways to accomplish this. I'm guessing you're on stock ROM, so the easiest way to accomplish this would be to install HDTweak which has settings to automatically turn off data when not in use (you can set things like to turn off 1min after not being used or 5, etc). If you're on a cooked ROM, you can check if there is a "Data" tab when you go to Settings>Phone>Data which will have an option to automaticaly turn off data when not in use.

Thanks for the reply - When I go to settings there is no Data option
How do I do this rom stuff - I've new so a little unknowning on these kinda things

I would probably advise you to do the first thing I posted, which is try HDTweak, since you won't have to mess with ROMs that way as it's nothing more than a program, but with powerful features. However, if you do wish to flash to a new ROM, do so at your own risk. The ROM development section has great tutorials along with a plethra of ROMs to choose from, and I believe most of the new ones have the Data tab (I know Duty's ROMs have it, but I'm guessing that many of the other ones do as well, and you can always just ask in the thread with the ROM that interests you the most). Just make sure to read the wikis on in the ROM section, they'll answer all your questions and if there is anything left unanswered then a search in the ROM section will probably give you the solution.

Selective Install on XDA Exec

Hi peeps.
After reading through various posts on this board, I thought I would hard resst my exec and install the cabs manually as suggested to get the features I want without the bloatware.
So far so good, installed everything I wanted and the connections only cab that is availble but, my MMS doesn't seem to work.
There is no MMS account in poutlook and there's noway that I can see of composing new MMS messages.
How does everyone else go on with this because when I've looked through some of the posts, everyone says thier SMS is working OK.
It's probably something stupid...
Cheers,
Smiff.
See? That's what happens when you don't proof-read your posts - there's loads of spelling mistooks and typos; and then no-one responds.
But seriously, someone else must have seen this as I'm not the only one to do a minimal install. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Smiff.
Answers in this thread for the cab file to install.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32527
I've read that one multiple times but still have no working MMS in this situation...
I THINK
I beleive you have to create new account. It appears to be setting up email just continue through and at some point you can select type and set to mms. Then highlight account click on settings and put in your providers mms setting and bingo...
must say I havent had this problem on the exec but did on xdaiis and that solved it..
hope that helps
stay happy

Hi
Thanks for the tip but unfortunately, it didn't work that way
However, I have managed to get it working now - i did a hard reset again and a clean install and then installed 5 cabs - voicemail one, bt patch, both "shortcut" ones and the uaprof one.
The only thing I did differently this time from all the others is that I switched it off with the power button and on again before soft resetting it - i'm pretty sure that this did the trick
Cheers,
Smiff.

Eep! Rooted Hero and now Messages Don't Work!

Hi all,
I finally took the plunge today and rooted my Hero and used MoDaCo's 2.3 custom Hero Rom by "Paul", and it appears to have been installed correctly (used the video tutorial via unlockr as a, err, tutorial).
However, I just heard my sms ringtone go off, went t check my messages, but i can't load any threads now!!! I can compose new ones, read the last lines of each thread in the all messages view (though not the new one), and a reboot didn't help.
Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?? It's rather urgent, so any quick reply would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance!
edit: I've now gone back to the stock T-moby one, thank heavens for the nandroid backup!
It depends what you went from but I'm guessing the original stock ROM. You need to clear the data on the phone as the update uses some different data formats in the new ROM (2.x). In particular, the new SMS database has at least one new column, so the old SMS database typically causes the problem you are experiencing. Use the data clear function in the recovery ROM to make sure all old data is gone and then flash with the new ROM. I've found the factory reset wasn't adequate for clearing the data from the phone before flashing with the new ROM.
I went from the new Orange ROM to Modaco v2.3 last night. Had similar problems at first However, I did the whole installation process again but did a 'Wipe' before re-installing the custom ROM. Everything now works perfectly.
Wipe is a must
and then.....all is good
thanks one and all; I guess that means I will have to get htc sync to work first then!
Thought I'd drop a quick line to say that the wipe-then-install did the trick! Pity I couldn't save the text messages, though
Thanks guys
there are a number of backup apps in the Market
I used MyBackup to backup SMS prior to the wipe, then restored after flashing with the custom rom.
A wipe isnt necessary..the new sms db just has a new column in it.. index_on_sim on the sms table. Adding that in any sqlite browser does the trick and messages load fine.
I'll use the MyBackup for next time, then, as I've got an interim program SMSBackup that sends all sms' to my gmail instead. which is another way of doing it, just shame you can't put it back in after.
I think I'm going to install the new radio, as now just realised the mobile data connection doesn't work! Ah, the dangers of rooting your phone and using a custom ROM
Edit: Uhm, that didn't help, using 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 radio from MoDaCo, and yes, the mobile network box is checked, signal is at full, and in a location where i used to have HSDPA (H). D'oh! Might just sod it and just wait until the T-Moby one, then
you might wanna check under "settings -> wireless controls -> mobile network settings -> access point names" if the right access point is defined. that's the most probable cause for not having a data connection.

@nuumuun: You, sir, are a star in a reasonably priced car!!! The APN list was empty, had no idea what they were but a quick uk google on "tmobile apn settings" gave about 5 varients of answers, I picked one I felt was more recent (WAP? I don't think we use that anymore ), and the "H" is back on the notification bar!
I'll mail you a hug
P.s. If anyone in the future is wondering what the settigns are, I used settigns from http://www.whatmobile.net/reference/210529/mobile_data_settings.html

G1 Problem

Hello Guys,
First I just want to say I love the forum, read many threads on here last night and despite being a total noob to flashing, developing etc I thought I'd have ago and flashing my G1.
Well it went well, love the new software, but I have one problem - I can't download from the Market place - whatever application I choose to download just stays as 'downloading' but nothing actually comes down - my data connection works just fine, with normal internet browsing working normally.
I wonder if anyone could make a suggestion - please find my phone set up data
HTC G1/Dream
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 62.505.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version 2.6.34-cyanogenmod
Mod Version CyanogenMod-5.0.8-DS
Build Number EPE54B
Thanks again!
Also noticed that despite inside the notifications menu, I have the LED turned on - when I receive a text the light doesn't flash?
Thanks
Ok, thats one problem fixed - the issue with downloads looks like a Marketplace issue - so that's all good!
So, just one other thing - when voicemails or texts are received the light doesn't flash - even though I've got it set up correctly in the settings....
Anyone else with this problem or have any tips?
The notificaton LEDs only work when the screen is off. You really don't need them when it's on.
Sure, but even when my screen is off and I get a text the LED doesn't blink.
Try checking that the missed call LED is checked under call settings.
All of a sudden without doing anything at all, it's working now - very odd.
This new OS is pretty Juicy on the battery, but not sure if its the fact I've been getting to know it all day.
A bug found by the looks of things - none of my contacts will save?
I've added the same person 3 times and it says saving contacts but when I got back in to contacts it isn't there .......anyone offer some suggestion(s)?
I've tried to synch with google and nothing happens - why doesn't the contact save to the phone or SIM? I'm not overly interested in storing contacts on Google - the standard firmware for the phone stores them on the phone/sim - where in the settings does it dictate where a contact is stored to ?
Thanks
Solved, the contact wasn't displayed as some of the boxes under contact settings weren't ticked - why on earth would I want to "hide" my contacts?? Oh well ......thanks

SMS latency-I apologize in advance

Good morning good people,
I know that this issue has been discussed and I have found multiple threads however I find myself confused (which is my normal state).
I am experiencing the same SMS problems as others have detailed with regards to SMS messages.
When I initially pull up to text/SMS there is a major lag sometimes causing me to send a blank message or miss the message altogether. Sometimes it also gets stuck on messaging and I have to work the phone to get it off the screen.
I see that there are various "fixes," but I am unsure which one I should use.
There is an official "fix" on the HTC website, but this does not seem applicable to the TMO edition.
I am running the stock 2.13 ROM (I wish they would update this).
Any definitive help would be greatly appreciated.

You will find 2 fixes for it. A custom rom or removing the messaging client, I highly dought we will see a T-mobile update for this phone any time soon with WP7 due out in a few months
Thanks for the response.
As cool as some of the ROMs are I must admit I am wary about flashing an "unofficial." I don't mind installing CABs and love doing my own registry tweaks when I know what to hit, but flashing the ROM makes me nervous (even when it IS official).
If I were to uninstall the client two questions:
1. How? Isn't it baked into the ROM?
2. Which client would you suggest?
Just take a look at my sticky which is found in my sig. Youll see the "How to Disable HTC Messaging on the HD2" link in the 1st post. Just install the cab and you'll be on the standard windows messenger. read the comments is seems as if you have to install a second cab for the mms, Arcsoft mms cab hd2.
^He is right. Follow the directions to remove the client but then you will need to find an acrsoft MMS cab that works for your device as the client controls MMS. After you find the cab and get it installed you may need to enter your mms settings again for it to work.

SMS limit removal

I send out the same text to a group of people quite often and I get a message saying messenger is sending a large amount of messages do you want to allow this? I have to click on it for each message that goes out. Is there any possible way to change the limit? I know you used to be able to set it to anything you want in settings/security but it's not there anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is so annoying.
Have you tried GoSMS Pro?
Maybe I've never sent to as many as you, but I've never encountered that warning or behavior. I've used GoSMS for several years.
I've only seen this when I send many messages in quick succession (either with Google Messenger or something like Tasker). There should be a checkbox that says to always allow.
I'm also looking for a solution. I was using ResurrectionRemix (a CM based ROM) and it has an option to set the text restriction. So, it CAN be done. We just need to know WHERE the code is so that it can be changed. I can't find any search results explaining how to accomplish this. That SMS Limit Unlock app doesn't work on later ROMS.
After hours of searching today - it appears that the setting has been moved into the framework?

I hope I'm wrong as I'm no Android dev.... But, if I'm correct the only way I know of to "fix" it is to make the change in a custom Android build/ROM.
This SUCKS as I use mass texting for business purposes (communicating with many individuals who sign up for contract work). I really like Android N (along with AndroidPay) - but, looks like I'll be going back to M (on a custom ROM)...
If anyone locates/determines a way to alter that file using RootExplorer/Sqlite or some other way - please let me know.
