Hi,
I am using iPad 912c. I love this machine but the little silver power button is acting funny sometimes. Normally, when I press the button the screen should be turned off immediately. But sometimes the screen still on for 4-5s after pressing the button. First I thought I didn't press the button properly. But if I press the button several times the machine can remember how many times I pressed and switch the screen on and off (sometimes ask me if I want to turn off) like having a ghost inside. Looks like it has a buffer for the power button. I don't think it is the software problem. Because I tried to soft reset the machine. The machine still remember how many times I pressed the button before reseting and turn on and off the screen several times after the machine back on. It happens twice a week. Is it a hardware or software problem? If it is hardware problem the iPad should not know I pressed the button several times. This is not a popular machine but I am sure it is one of the best. Please help. Thanks.
Anyone has the same problem? Please help
Hi!
I have the same problem with my Hp Ipaq hw6915. Now phone is after reset, and I can't finish pre-config (time, etc), because screen is always turning off. Please help!
No ideas...?
Is there any program, that can permanently desactivate backlight button..?
Or something...?
Please help.
check if u have the same issues without the microsd
if u do (have issues..) then backup using spb backup (or any..) then hr your device and check if with a clean device all is good

Hi, first time posting! so hello everyone 8)
I got xda exec, i had this problem with the first rom and the latest one too. For some random reason when my phone comes out of standby sometimes my backlight is off. i struggle to see my screen and when i check my backlight settings (brightness level) "on battery" its set to off on the slider. When i set it higher my backlight works. Also my backlight button does not respond when this happens. It just randomly happens but im starting to notice it more and more. Any ideas peeps
Try:
1- pressing the button beside the volume slider.
or
2 - pressing and holding the power button.
Hope that helps

thanks but i tried both, doesnt work. the only way it comes back is by going to backlight settings. Is there a file that could be corrupt that stores the information about the backlight settings?
Is the box "turn on backlight when a buttonis pressed or the screen is tapped"?
Other than that i've not got a clue. Someone who knows a bit more? any ideas?

yeah thats ticked. the only way i get the back light to work when this happens is pushing the slider up, the one in the battery settings
seems real odd.
If noone else has a suggestion a hard reset might help, dont know if you've tried that yet. If you do this dont forget to back up everything.

Hi,
I think it really is the POWER button: if I press and hold it for a few seconds, the slider goes to zero and the light goes off. Press and hold again restores the old situation.
Peter
My wife's Magician did this sometimes too.
Turned out that in her case it was because when you hold down the power button to turn the phone off (for a second or two) it doesn't actually turn the phone off, just the backlight. (Of course it all goes dark, so it looks like the phone is off if you don't check too closely.)
Then when you press the power button to turn it on again (after it's timed out and turned itself off), there's obviously still no backlight...
May not be your problem, but give it a check...
In nearly three months, I've had this happen perhaps four times. My device has the "on-battery" backlight set at one notch, to save the most power, and I guess something must just move it that one notch down to off.
So far there's been no uniform circumstance, other than it's guaranteed to happen at night under low street or room lighting so that I can't see the screen to get to and re-adjust the setting.
A hard reset doesn't help. I've reset numerous times with different ROM versions and had the problem reappear - but very infrequently as I said.

I've had this a few times. I've had to hold the power button in for a few seconds to get the light back.
i had the same problem, just comed up a week or so. not changed any settings either.. wierd bug
Hello.
I have a T-mobile Mda and yesterday it began to do wacky things:
When I press the power button to wake the device from sleep, the phone volume balloon pops up and all the indicators go down. As if somone is holding the "down" button and not letting it go. When I manually change the volume, it goes back down again. When I press "start menu" it shows up for a second and then disappears. It seems as if the buttons are stuck, but they can't be. I did not drop the phone nor there was any physical damage done to it.
When I press the big "select" button the problem seems to go away, but resurfaces when the device goes to sleep and then back from sleep.
What could possibly cause this and how to fix it?
Thanks!

Since this just begun happening, it sounds like recent software you installed is corrupted and causing this. If you did install software just prior to this, uninstall the software then power off and on your device.
im having the same problem with my volume control going haywire, and random letters being displayed on the screen. but this happened after, which i now realize was an incomplete upgrade crossbow cause my device was cid-locked. i followed the "g4 hard spl (cid unlock)" topic, then upgarded to the "touch" rom, but i still get the same problem. any insights?
'Do a Hard Reset' of the phone, although you'll loose all your personal data, contacts messages etc...,but phone will reset to default settings and erase all corruptions, otherwise do a reflash.
Cheers !
i tried doing a "hard reset" but it wont work. the screen says to push the 'send' button, but when i do the button doesn't respond. so i tried a reflash but im still getting the same problems. do i need to reflash to an older rom, then upgrade again? if so, where can i get an older rom version, or perhaps the qtek 9100 original rom?
so i undid the hard spl lock, and reflashed my phone with the vodaphone qtek 9100 rom package. everything seems fine when the battery is full, but as the battery power goes down the problems become more frequent. the phone thinks buttons are being pressed, ala the lights on the keys are on, the volume constantly goes up and down, contacts open. can anyone help me? i dont know what left to do
Me too, it is if the down button is being held down.
need to bumps this thread. really need some help to fix this. its really frustrating me
two weeks and still no progress
someone? anyone? guide me and any others who are having this problem in the right direction. dont want to give up this phone, i really like it.
Same problem over here
Is you’re problem fixed or still the same... My phone is doing exactly the same.
my phone is still not working properly. cant find any solutions
I have problem with power button. when push pwr button dont,t off pda, but when hold pwr then lights off.
Power is never shut off in PDAs, thats the way PDAs have been designed.
I have the same problem, he is not talking about a full power down. If you hit the power button quickly the phone does nothing. However if you hold the power button down for about 2-3 seconds the lcd light turns off as it should.
Because of this I have to wait 1 minute for the unit to suspend before putting it back in the holster.
Does anybody have any idea as to why this might be happening. Im not new at this so hard reset, soft reset.. new rom... new radio...turning up side down while chanting. It does not change......
It will do it right one or twice in a week.
Maybe somebody that understands the signal that the unit receives upon pressing the power button might be able to shed some light on this.... Again the button does seem to operate just not suspend when pressed normally (1 second or less)
I have done some more research and this seems to be a common problem for some with BAs but nobody has found out why. There must be some kind of common hardware fault.. Does the power button send only one signal or is it a multi signal device.

Do you have a problem with turning on? First, we need to know whether it is hardware issue or not...
What you can do in the mean time with the turning off problem is by installing a poweroff app like shutdownme, psshutxp, etc etc...
Absolutely no problem with turning on from standby... Right now i just lock the phone before placing it back in the holster.
To make it clearer if you HOLD the power button down the backlight will turn off only. It will still show the display image and keys will still function (it dims)
Well, I had the same issue with the latest WM5 ROM. I thought I was too stupid to press the button, then I thought the button was broke, then I thought, I'll have to live with it.
Now that I have flashed to WM6, no problems at all! Never even came to my mind that this problem once existed. So I guess that some ROMs just have this particular bug?
Stefan
I have tried all the roms as well as 2003 and have the same issue in all of them. And im not alone.
Power off Problem
I'm in same condition.
Had the same problem when using WM2003 second Ed.
Now I've installed WM6 but nothing changed:
I cannot power-off/suspend but can turn off backlight if press and hold power button.
When in standby the button works fine to turn on the device.
Also, sometimes volume turns up continously with "noisy" beep ...
Anybody solved this problems?
Thanks,
Ruben

Power button has two modes:
1. Click mode: Click it once for a short duration. This turns off backlight and can be resumed by pressing it again or by pressing OK button
2. Press and Hold mode: Press and hold for few seconds and release. This mode will dim the backlight and no other button will bring it back. This is some kind of deep sleep in battery mode. To resume the original setting, press and hold Power button again for few more seconds.
(p.s.: I am not sure if this behavior is true for all the BA models)
April 1,
I know these modes...
It seems that "mode 1" doesn't work at all...
I would activate "Button Lock" (settings-->button--> Lock(tab)--> "lock all buttons except power button") to turn-off backlight and "lock all buttons except power button" but I cannnot...
You solved this problem?
I have had this issue of not being able to power off. One way I always got out of it was by clearing the registry hive. Unfortunately this brings the PDA back to the basic ROM. At this point the power button worked without any issues. Upon reloading the software the problem may come back. I believe the issue is related to some programs. I can't recall which program it was that seemed to cause the issue. One other thing I think that also worked was just entering the registry and getting back out and doing a hard reset.
I had the same problem with my 6600. the message button also didn't work. Believe it or not, to fix it. I banged the lower half (4-way area) on my desk a few times. Not hard enough to break the screen. But prolly hard enough to free what was prolly a sticky key. And now everything is working.
i am too
the same ...
when i press the power quickly , nothing happen
when i press the power for 2 sec. the backlight turns off
i tried every thing .... including formatting my BA
any one solve it ???
I have this same problem, my power button does`t work. i tried installing different roms but without any chance to fix it. maybe its an mechanic issue. i will change pwr button, i hope this work.
Look at one of my previous posts. I fixed it, twice, and other users have used the same metod to fix it. I think the problem is "hung bit" hardware related because you can also send it in for service, and they will change a chip, but i never had to.
do you guys face this problem before?
first time, i don't know what happened, tried to press power button few times, the screen not ON. So i soft-reset.
second time, when i tried device locked and press Power button to standy during activesync to my notebook, after a while i press Power to ON it back but the screen show nothing. Then i tried called my pda with another mobile phone. My pda did not ring at all and i can heard the calling tone from another mobile phone. It seem like hang already.
Can anyone know what's my problem?

Have you tried to give it some time? When i had old version of Polish official WM5 ROM from Era operator, my Wizard took more than 5 minutes to boot (instead of less than a minute with newer ROM). Also, sometimes it did hang in the process. What seemed to help (though i have no idea why) was not allowing the backlight to go off by tapping the screen once in a while during the boot process.
left it on, with charger plugged in to maintain juice all morning and its not gone any further
And how about keeping the device awake - tapping the screen during boot process?
it stays permanently awake from reset
What i meant, is that when my device booted, after a while the backlight went off. if i didn't tap the screen to turn it back on, the device simply hung. Then again, that was probably just a problem of my ROM/software combination, since i never saw anyone else describing such problem. If you have your data backed up, you might try a hard reset, if not, maybe someone else can give you a bit more useful advice
it just stays on. no tapping required.
is a hard reset the same as holding down the power button til it turns off because ive done that a few times now
any suggestions?
nope, hard reset is holding the comm manager and voice memo buttons pressed and pressing the side reset button. Keep these buttons down until you get a question if you want to restore your factory defaults (you'll have to press the call button if you do). Be arare that you'll lose all the data on your phone (those on the storage card will stay intact) - all the files, contacts, messages. I hope you have a backup of those...
strangely enough, held down those three buttons and instead of asking me to hard reset it vibrated and then popped the txt mesages screen up?
very bizare
must have been retaining the boot graphic on top of the apps?
thanks for the help!

Well, i must admit - that sure is odd.
there is another way to hard reset - turn off your device completely (holding the power button for a few secs, and answer the popup message asking if you want to power down "yes" (from your earlier posts i understand that it worked). When the phone is completely off (no LED blinking), press the two side buttons i mentioned earlier (voice command and comm manager) and while holding them power the phone up just as you normally do - by power button. Keep both side buttons down until you get the question about resetting. If you hold the buttons and it gets to the windows mobile screen, then one of them might be faulty.
[EDIT]
I just thought o0f something else - if the SMS window pops up, it would mean that the device is actually booted, so it should connect with activesync. Maybe connecting it to the PC, opening the device's folder, and navigating to /windows/startup folder. Thye problem might be caused by one of the applications run on start, so try moving (not deleting) all items from startup to some location on your PC. Then do a soft reset (the reset button on the side). If it boots, post the list of apps you had in startup, maybe we can figure out which one was causing trouble and put all others back to startup. If not, then the problem is somewhere deeper in the system, and a hard reset will probably be necessary.
