Disable of USB-charging possible? - G1 General

Hi there,
used the search, but didn´t find something.
Is it possible to disable the USB-charging? Í´m connecting my G1 often to a PC..
Any ideas?
Cheers
brasax

I don't know if this is possible or not, but why would you want to?
The battery in the G1 actually prefers short periodic charges rather than long term charging.
It does more harm to the batter to charge it from dead to full then it does to charge for 15-45 min here and there.

Bad Battery! - Possible cause?

Hey guys,
First of, YES I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION .
My battery life is absolute horrid right now, and I tried everything.
I tried out different roms, every radio, deleting programs, hard resetting tons of times. I even bought a new 1500 mAh battery but it was still crap.
Battery log says my device in standby mode with the screen turned of uses -70ma, when I turn my screen up it jumps to -320ma, and when idle on the screen for a few sec it goes to -200 ma, but when I browse through stuff again it goes to 3xxma again. When I surf on the internet it picks up to 450-500ma.
Now, this morning with the 1500 mAh battery fully charged I played a few games of XTRAKT, few texts, 1 hour of music listening and 10 minutes of being on Opera through a HSDPA connection. It was down to 45%.
This isn't the normal rate the battery goes down at right?
I use HDtweak to manage my connection and put it off after a minute so it isn't that I keep dataconnections open. I never use bluetooth or wifi either.
Could it possibly be that it's the charger of the device? I perhaps have the feeling that it doesn't put enough juice into the battery even though the green light led goes on to indicate it's full.
Some feedback would be much appreciated cause it's put me on the edge of selling my device, which would be a shame cause I'm really fond of it (except the battery ofcourse ).
Thanks in advance!
/a
P.s. I am from a pda background, so it isn't that I'm expecting too much of the device or comparing it to a normal cell.
May I ask what you searched, as there are 3 or 4 active threads on battery drain right now?
Hi
Had same problem.
Try to browse a storage card if its very slow You must format it and it will back to normal.
very strange but its working.
Cheers

General battery drain yes, not the possible issue of a charger though. If I'm wrong I stand corrected. .

I'll try this, I have noticed that today my storage card won't be read by my computer, so perhaps this is a fix for the lousy battery issue.

Hi Antrak,
Touch HD has the longest battery life of any similar 'phone. See e.g.
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/1...-the-rest.aspx.
Either your battery is not charging correctly, as you say (try it via the PC USB cord?), or you have two dud batteries in a row (very unlikely) or you have a bug in your m/board. 70mA in standby is too high. It should be <20mA with only the 'phone on in standby mode, providing you are not moving from one cell to another all the time, and have decent signal.
One other suggestion. Drain the battery completely to zero, then recharge it to max. This should reset the internal battery meter. But don't do this too often, as it ages the battery faster.
If none of these work, return the 'phone for a m/board replacement undere guarantee.
I have the same problem... After charging for 10 hours, my batt shows 55% only.. and last 1hr on STANDbY!!!
IMAGINE! charge for 10hrs juz to get to use for 1 hr.. im disappointed by the batt.. im not sure if HTC is gona let me exchange with a new one or do I have to buy a new batt..
try check your sync..its active all the time or not..
if yes..
find the threat to make a fake account for sync, so you can active it manually.
so your battery will stand more longer,
about charging..
me also facing the same problem..
need to change it more longer to get full battery,
but
if i change in my car,
no issue
very fast
i thing charger issue..
but i bought original set..
??????????????????
Okay I've charged my HD through my pc with a USB cable and formatted my SD card like a other user said. Gonna see how it holds out today. It could very well be that some chargers have issues.
My experience with the Touch HD says that when charged with a USB attached to a computer the battery life is a lot shorter than charged through a wall socket.

This is always going to be the case. Quickest way to charge your device will always be through your wall socket and with your device turned off!!
Same battery issue.
i recently purchased a new touch HD (T8285 telstra version) and am experiencing the same horrible battery issues. it takes more time to charge it, than i get use out of it.
i've tried multiple batteries, and am in the process of trying different ROMs.

Indeed, here's an illustration...
Image1:
Charging via USB takes longer. Consumption and therefore charge current is erratic after the battery level reaches 50% when charging via USB on my HD. So the battery fills up to about 60% of its capacity by the time when the battery level is reported to be 100% and charging stops.
Image2:
When charging with an AC adapter this is not happening and the capacity is fully utilized. This is also quicker.

That's strange. For me it's quicker if the device is turned on. When it's off it takes around 8-10 hours to charge but when it's on it's alot quicker.

hmmm, I don't know how this is possible?
If your device is on there is always power outage especially with programmes running, whilst if your device is off, there is no power drainage so device should charge quicker.
What rom are you using? software installed?

Latest official rom with alot of software installed. But it doens't make sence to me either. It's logical for something to charge faster when it's using no power (off) then when it is using power (on).
Combine battery threads ???
Hi to Moderators,
There are now several threads on the HD forum on battery and charging issues.
Can these be combined into one place and stickied, so we can get a clear picture?
Current threads are this one, plus:

I have a gut feeling from what I'm reading, that HTC have had a bad batch of batteries or charger circuits in the HD - in which case the best starting point is to call their service points and ask for help/replacement, instead of spending lots of time on other remedies. The symptoms described have lots of commonalities, and the HD is normally an excellent beastie for battery usage.
Thanks for all your help, ladies and gents! Your work is much appreciated.

Heya,
Don't know what it is but my battery life increased a tad. Am running Dutty's X3.0 with the 1.32.x.x. radio. Watching a 1 hour xvid dvd rip (no conversion) in coreplayer on full backlight with no HSDPA on, wifi or bluetooth takes away 20% of my battery, which is acceptable.
Don't think it's the SD card format though, it might be that I never have the activesync process on anymore by setting it to manual update and closing it (it otherwise keeps running.)

Something is wrong with my battery meter

i am having the same problem after MR2. it was abt 56% after a soft reset(Phone was really slow kind of hanged) wend to 15% and another soft reset back to 54%. some bug i guess

it seams that it is some bug but no one has found yet an solution..
come on guys, too focus on how bad the x2 is and forgot about the basic problems.. has anyone come to mind it might be the battery?? i had that problem too thinking i have overcharge the battery so when out and buy a new one now its all sweet.. and send the old one back SE they gave me a new one.
well hard to say but it is from the start-brand new battery and from the beginig..li-polymer battery are hard to overcharge-they can be charged even if they have 70% or 80% power still in it...but l have confirmed in Serbia several cases of battery issue-so are they all "overcharged"?
ive had at least a dozen mobile phones over the last decade and ive found with practically every one of them that if you do a reset or turn the phone off the battery meter will drop. this is nothing new and not specific to the X2 or even sony (ive had nokias and philips phones do it). i dont know if its because it takes extra grunt to restart the phone or it loses calibration or what. the battery meter guesses the percentage of power based on the voltage so its not an exact reading anyway. ive found that popping it on charge for a bit seems to sort it all out again.

not that it wont stop charging, its just the meter changes erratically with no reason, frim 90 to 4 back to like 50 just from a soft reset
but now how to stop charging?
when my phone is turn on and connected to a wall charger, then charger charge the battery to 100%..and that is that..but it still charging. when phone is off and connected on charger, then it charge to 98%..that is what it shows when i turn on the x2. l have tried battery calibration procedure and nothing..
I noticed this happened on MR1 when removing and replacing the battery (as we all needed to do soooo many times ). Something must be happening with the contacts. I just made sure they were clean and reinserted my battery and haven't had a problem since.
has anyone noticed that when you charge the battery
when the phone is switched off, that the battery does not stop charging? the big battery icon keeps going up an down even if you leave it charging all night? the icon is still showing charge..

i can confirm that too.
My previouse post is a guidline for charging.
With Li-Po's if you over charge them they discharge, this is a well know fact for RC cars/planes that run Li-Po's which is why they have charges with so many settings to get optimal performance and warnings and cut off when fully charged if the cut off/discharge does not take place it makes the Li-Moss (dendrites) unstable, when they get long enough they can short out the battery and cue explosion
When on charge for a long period have you noticed that the battery gets rather hot, and after 30/40 mins it is cool again?? this is because it has been over charged and is discharging to stop it from exploding. it also explains why even tho its been on charged all night its only at %60 odd because the discharge has taken place.
and i have just been told by a work friend that HP are doing a re-call because of the above.

All this you provide is ok,but problem was from the start-brand new phones were bought and from start this happens..so SE sold us defect battery? Funny, but there is no point to talk about over heat and overcharge when simple..battery icon large one when phone is off do not stop or go off display few people tried 9-12h and it still is there. Battery is no hot..it is hot after 2h-little hot..after that phone is cold. l believe that something is wrong with registry keys for charge time..l am not a programmer or developer but l dont think that we all fu*** up our batteries ..this is not a first phone to us..so we are not amateurs in usage of battery charge.
i dont understand.. why would you turn off the phone to charge it? it does appear there is still an error but this isnt necessary and wont charge the phone any faster or more efficiently.

Some times l do not want to be disturbed and if battery is low l turn off the phone...and plug it to charge... obviously there are no body who thinks that this bug is annoying.
This is my first device with such a bug,and because l deal with mobiles(l had over 100 devices and use them form last 10 years) never cross to such a issue..and nobody know how to solve this bug.

battery doesnt charge fully

Hi look at this-im charging my battery whole night(tab is off),indicator shows 100%.then I turn it on and the tab shows is only 78% battery.sometimes its okey but lately is more often!ik wondering what can be the cause.im using my tab for about half a year and always take care of my battery so i dont think its a battery issue.have anyone got any idea?take care

I second that.
Have you tried it yet? Does it work for you?
I have seen some (slightly) weird behaviour on my Tab. When I charge to 100% (in off state) then turn tab on (with charger still plugged in) I only ever get to 99%.... I suspect my charger may not be quite 5v (or whatever) or the device drains enough charge / sucks enough juice to not let it ever get to 100% while turned on. Slightly weird... but of no real practical concern.
I noticed with my evo amd tab that if i leave them on the charger all night they drop percentahe very quickly like within a minute ill be down to 98%. I read somewhere to charge with unit on also. When i charge til they are full and pull them off they hold 100% for a while depending on usage.

first of all try a battery calibration program like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en
maybe it is a calibration problem.
as far as i know batter stats are not erased with a factory reset
then try an app like this :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl=en
it should tell you the battery capacity and see if everything is working as it should.
good luck! i hope that will solve your problems, or at least find out what your problem is!
P.S. if it is an app related problem, or wakelock related you can find it with betterbattery stats.

That battery calibration app is a placebo. The batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything to change the microcontroller inside the battery pack itself.

Allow the phone to discharge fully until it turns itself off, by normal use and not using a battery draining app (or a benchmark). Then charge slowly and continuously until full, without making the battery hot, eg. by USB port on computer.
If you discharge too quickly you risk getting the red light of doom.

I set a charge limit to 80% then I put my phone to charge and when it reaches 80% of battery appears an error in notification bar saying daemon error 7 and the charge doesn't stop.
If you want to limit the battery charging, i mean if you want it to last as long as you want by charging slowly, There's no secret, use a slow wall block. That's the best solution
I Don't really know why someone would like to charge his phone till 80 only but if it's for lithium preservation then that's the best solution i Guess, even if you download an application that is working well on another phone, i Guess it's like a TV, even if it's off, electricity goes by, nothing can limit water to flow by, same for electricity
Have you tried using Tasker with a profile to get this done ?
