i bought my xperia off my mate a wile bk.. n its all good, works brill. tried o2, vodafone and virgin.. n thy all work, so im assuming its unlocked.
i'v debranded it, using the tutorials on here, n iv gt rid of all th vodafne brand crap .. iv updated it with th r2aa uk rom, n its working gurd.
i now plan 2 take it abroad, saudi arabia 2 b precise n wantd 2b sure it'll work thre? i tried a saudi sim tht i hav, n it registers properli with reception.. onli thing is, a small triangle appears near th top wit the 'G' sign.. wt duz this mean?
that icon is the roaming mode
it works everywhere they have gsm
it will not work with 3g/umts in places they use
difference frequencies which is pretty much only usa
when you get a G it mean you only get gprs data speed
E mean you only get Edge data speed
so it WILL work then.. thanku v.much! me n my xperia are v.apreciative of this site.. lots of goodies

Hi all Just wanted to share my experiance, as newbie as well .
I brought myself Orange M5000 off ebay love it so far. Version running is:

I disabled error reporting as iv read and iv disabled orange today. Got it working over wifi well enough. Tried pocket msn, seems to eat the battery pretty hard. Angil msn seems good though.
Current set up is Magic Button and TCP. Got no memory card yet. Wondering if I should upgrade the os. Reading o2 Corp of the newer orange one. Is it really worth the upgrade?
NetFront seems to be better then IE is there any better until opera is released in Jan? Also is there any good site for getting list of PDA usable Radio or Tv?
I Tried VCU to my desktop so laggy couldnt be used.
Currently running a UK orange sim in it, didnt realise it was locked not bad deal. Orange pay u go sim 3000 sms evenin weekend when u top up 15pm and free orange to orange calls .
Going back to o2 though as cant get good orange signel.
I tried Roxio wirless radio prog as it was recommend but it would play cause no skin met the reselution?
ANyways 2 questions for newbie worth while upgrading my os and what good progs do u guys use.[/code]
ok I know this sounds like a dumb question, but is edge available in the uk? (i assume not).
today I was in manchester and my gprs icon changed to an edge one, I made a connection and was able to check my email.
when I got home it had changed back to the usual gprs icon. I did not reset the device at any point.
any idea why this happened?

I had heard rumours of Orange trialing EDGE, can't remember where I got the info tho, just recall seeing it somewhere.
I was working for orange up until the begining of the year so it could have been there.

I've got a weird thing in here. I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. According to T-Mobile the area is covered by 3g, and I was able to see the 3g icon a couple of months ago , yet I dont remember when exactly it disapeared and since then - nothing, only G ... so, the area is definitely covered by 3g but my Vario II can't connect to it or what ? :/ Anyone having the same problem there ?
right. since noone replied .. i tried a lot of things. It just seemed wrong that my Vario II cant switch to 3g ...
and then I tried that wonderful BandSwitch by Daniel Herrero. IT FIXED my problem (by switching to UMTS) , got speeds up to 1100 mbps straight away ! yoohoo !

Wondered if I can get a little help from the masters on the forums.
I've got a TMob UK HD2 which connects to the net on H, a friend got an O2 UK HD2 but he cannot get an internet connection on 3G or H, only edge.
Is this something that O2 have locked down with the phone, a setting somewhere I can change for him or are we looking at putting a new ROM on his phone?
Any help (or shared grumbles!) much appreciated.

make sure he has a fairly recent simCard, the older ones are not 3G enabled .. I've just changed to t-mobile from O2 as I found O2s 3g coverage to be no where as good as t-mobiles ..

Has he got a 3G enabled SIM?
Has your friend got a 3g sim card? I had the same problem with my x1 and got O2 to give me a sim card (they should swap it for you free of charge) and voila H all over...
Genius - that would be it. On further quizzing, he suddenly volunteers that he has had the same sim card since 99/2000.

Well hello in the first line ... I have one big question and I never found any answer about this or any ideea what means:
I bought few days ago one N3 9005 Snp D chipset etc etc .... and they sended me a 4g sim card sayng to be activated only with that phone/tablet/smartthablet ... Well I did it ... but later i tryied to put back my old SIM Card from another plan and from then it happened
1. Strange reboots ( when I put the phone in GSM only mode ) , no network... network selected is not available bouth SIMS are 4g different plans same network Vodafone.
2. When I insert another SIM from Orange in GSM/WCDMA Mode ....saying ... Atention The Network selected Vodafone is not available please try a new search .. well I did .. the networks apear and i try to register it takes like 10-15 minutes at the end is registering but FC .. again the message shows Atention The Vodafone network selected is not available .
I switch to LTE /Auto mode ... everything is fine I can call in Orange/ Vodafone /Cosmote /even I tryied a SIM card T mobile everything is great I can call ... even do sms /push notifications .. until I select again GSM only mode .. when I leav the Metropolitan area and going to country ... when this happen HELL IS coming ... what can it be ?!?!.
I never heared some of you having this problem .. I tryied : STOCKL ROM area SEE/UE / ROOT/ Region Unlock Away .. several things I guessed it was the EFS etc etc ... well EFS IS good I did Back up restored everything is fine ... unless those mentionet above.
3. Another thing : when SIM register in GSM/WCDMA mode .. I can initialise only 2-3 calls .. or receive 2-3 calls from my friends .. after that it shows nertwork like is fine and .. after 20-30 minutes my friends call me on another number saying come oon dude you keep your phone close .. something wrong ? What to say I never close my phone is allways open ... and some other strange thing when .. reboot the phone ... and retry to be if is ok ... I hear a sound like .. the network fail to initiate my call .
4. Yesterday I figured out that in the back space of the battery place .. some oil liquid apeared and is anoying to see that is like when .. the battery leaked or something like that .. but I checked .. to service .. they sayid is normal ?! WTF ?

In my experience certain operators use very sh*tty baseband versions that are very specific to their network - I have seen quite a number of Orange Galaxy S2 models that had that exact weird problem when the phone starts OK and then 30-60 minutes later it goes away from the network and you can no longer receive calls (but you can perfectly make those calls). The fix for those was to write latest official Orange ROM (and make certain that any carrier-unlocking was done in a way that does not f*ck the modem).
I would also seriously document the problem with the oily/watery stuff (photos + writing communication to service) - sh*tty carriers (Orange included) very often deny any form of service at a later time based on anything that triggers the (many) humidity detectors from inside the modern phones.

I just spoked with service guys and showed them the liquid that after some test is electrolite inside the acumulator ( battery ) that leaked from inside becouse they say " several batteryes are made with a small defect/bug and they leaked but is not mentioned how many or if is a lage scale problem .. they just say to change silently and quick the battery " I was crazy when I heared that and first they sayd is my fault becouse I used the device and it becomes very hot ... probably becouse they tryed to full me .
Now ... the prb you just sayd is about ... that NO MORE NETWORK CODES .... ONLY the SIMCARD Activated with teh device can work flawles unless you remove this from the network carrier ... if you activate the mode 4g/lte .... it will be the only mode becouse is the highest .. try to activate first GSM mode only and so one so forth ..... until you get the 1st level .. becouse the device remain activated and set on the 4G/Lte if you do that ... At the end the changed my gadget now everything works fine I activated starting wityh another SIM and step by step register in network ... now I can put .... Orange/including DIgi Mobile Network .. and some other wcdma networks.
PROBLEM SOLVED I MEAN FOR ME ... Don't know for others...
