emailing contact details - Touch HD General

I have pda for along time and I don,t know the answer to this.
Sometimes I want to sent a contcts details to a college. Youu can beam if they are standing next to you or if oyur lucky you can send them as a sms. Not always very reliable. Can you send them as an email, that would be great.
Any ideas or is it obvious and i am the last person to know.

I send contacts as vcard via sms. Easy for both sender end receiver And it has never failed me ...
Regards
Asbjørn

not always
I find it doesn't work with all phones. My friends on htc just didn't recieve them and now his iphone doesn't like them either. Email just seems to be the way forward for me and I am sure there must be away.

There actually sent as MMS if you look at menu in contacts it will send contact Via (it depends on the ROM ) or something similar, this will then show your mms screen and you just add recipient it will be sent as a Vcard which is attached and will have all the info of that contact

a few questions...

I'm using a:-
XDA II
ROM: 1.66.00WWE
RV: 1.08.00
which i bought 3 days ago.
I've read the manual a few times and i have a few questions,
1. i downloaded an mp3 from my desktop, when choosing the ringtone, i can't seem to find the file anywhere. what happened?
2. i installed active sync 3.7.1 as a standard partnership. i can share everything except the contact and a few others. when choosing to share, there are no checkbox next to the contacts. ?!?
3. sometimes, after i entered the number and the sms text into a new msg which is to be sent as an sms, i can never seem to send it. the screen will remain in the new msg window. and if i were to exit, it will be saved in the draft. everytime i click onto the send button, the 'envelope' just flew and the mobile number shifts to the right and thats it. ?!?!?!?!?
hope some helpful soul out there could gimme a hand on this
thanks

You need to go to settings, system, add ring tone, and add it as a ringtone. This moves the mp3 to \Windows\Rings.

Did you make sure to choose the SMS account?
outlook, no... but its not outlook that i need, i basically need the contacts to be in my laptop, thats all.
yes, i've verified many times that it is an sms account...
when in the 'add account' section, i noticed that the SMS has a asterix before it = { *SMS }
does this have got to do with anything?
also
in the windows folder, there is a few files named "MsgQueueMapFileMicrosoft Notification SMS Protocol (Reiceive Only)" and a few others with similar names
what does this mean?
is there something wrong with the settings ?
could the "receive only" thing be the problem that caused me to be unable to send sms msgs ?
how do i undo that ?

ActiveSync needs outlook for that, whether you need it or not.

The asterix means SMS is the default account.

That's normal, it uses those "files" internally. I have those too.

Could be.
Which SMSes does it NOT send? Only replies to certain people? Only new messages? Does it send replies sometimes/always, but new messages never?
Check Settings(Personal settings)| Phone|Services tab| Voice Mail and SMS(get settings..)|SMS service center

No, that's not it.
new problem
ok
i've solved the previous problems and its all cool now
nothing a hard reset cannot do ;p
but a new thing just showed up
actually its been bugging me since i bought it
here is how it goes:
when the phone idles for a time period, no one can call in
there is no indication whatsoever when this problem occurs
the only way i found out abt it is when the ppl who tried to call me screwed me when i met them earlier
and the only way to resolve this is tru soft reset
can anyone explain what is happening?

Sending SMS to all of my contacts

Hello people,
I wish to send a text message (SMS) to all of my contacts. My contact list is about 2000, so I guess I will need a software in order to send a message to all of them, because if I am not mistaken if using the MS software for msgs, will crash the phone as will try to load all msgs to memory.
Any of you who knows how to solve my problem, or knows a software? Please....
Thank you in advance.

Another forum member - t0flus - posted an application called "Group SMS" which may do what you're after....I'm presuming you could send the message group by group (if your contacts are in groups?).
The program can be found by searching for "Group SMS" or by clicking >HERE<.
I've not tried t0flus' program myself, but I'm certain that throwing 2000 contacts at the standard MS SMS program will kill it!!
Hope that helps!
Mark.
That is exactly what I was doing using my Nokia 7610, but I thought I would be able to find a software that would "do the grouping" automatically for me.
Thank you anyhow.
You see, I just think that a software can send for example 10 - 10 text messages, until all of it is sent and then display a message say sent to all or something like that.
Maybe try getting a PC program like Jeyo Mobile Commander and using that to send the SMS? It drags a list of contacts and messages over via ActiveSync and you can use the app to send SMSes, backup/restore your SMS inbox, backup/restore your contacts etc... I've sent SMSes from it before when I've been too lazy to pick my phone up
Here's another Group SMS app that allows you to choose one or more Contact Groups to send a text message. Works in a different way to the other app mentioned here and one or the other might suit your application better.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306682
Great! Thank you people... I will try, and I hope that one of those will help me do it by the press of one buttons, because you have no idea how difficult and annoying it is to have to split your contacts to hundreds and send them that way.

Hi
Probably the easiest way to do it is with an app called Power SMS by Trinket Software. It's an app you need to pay for but it does other things such as scheduling SMS's and producing reports. If you just wish to send an SMS to specific groups you can use a program call GroupSMS this is freeware. You have to set the groups up in outlook on your PC but it's free and works for me.
Hope this has helped
such tasks usually come on common hollidays to me, i.e. known dates. so i use my laptop for multi-sms from home. i use efficasoft mobile express.

With groupsms, you can also select individual contacts by checking the box, not necessary to create groups. you can find the program here
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/
all i do is in the "To:" coloumn when writing a SMS, i write out the contacts name and it will show their number at the bottem of the screen as you type and select the contact. then i start to write the next contact name and select them and so on. hope this helps

[Photo Sending] Is there a program thats REALLY useful ??

I was wondering if there is a program built in the HTC that can send photos in 1 click to the assigned emails.
For example : I take a picture, go to send - email, and thats it.
The software automatically sends the picture to any assigned emails.
On my previous N97, I had a program called PixelPipe that can do that. But since the HTC triumphs over the N97, I feel that it can do that without the fuss of using an external program.
If its not possible, what program does that ?
You can do that with the camera.
Take a picture, and when the menu bar appears, click the envelope
Thanks for replying
Yes im aware of that feature, but thats exactly why I was referring for (implied actually)
I want a way to click e.g. Send by Email => It sends to all assigned contacts directly
The option you are referring to, I have to add the emails manually, PLUS I must have an email assigned to the phone.
So any ideas ?

Sorry - you've lost me there. Of course you have to have an email account on the phone, and of course you have to enter email addresses (or names, if they're in your contact list with email addresses assigned).
No phone in the world will have native functionality to send emails without you first setting up an email account, and to suggest you want to send emails without telling the phone who to send them to is ridiculous.
Either I've completely misunderstood you or that request is ludicrous (no offense, but it is!)
Hmm I think I wrote a rather confusing description
I remember in Pixel Pipe you had to register using your email, so yeah either way you must have your email registered, my bad.
But other than that here is how it works :
You open the program
You add a list of emails you want to send to
Take a picture
Press " SEND BY EMAIL "
The software comes in and you click your account name
The software sends the picture to emails you already registered to them before
I hope this makes it clearer

Okay, I understand now. I just don't see why that's any better than the native functionality of the phone as it stands.
You open the camera app
You take a picture
You press send
You select email type
You enter email addresses
It sends an email
It's a very straight-forward process. I guess not many people would want to send picture after picture to the same group of people. (I'm not even sure the group of people would want it either lol).
If you really want the application you mentioned earler, you're better off requesting that from the developers. The only close alternatives out-of-the-box are things like facebook or twitter uploads.
Trying to do something similar to the BBM (black berry messenger) .. Friends share pictures in an instant, one click.
Since I dont have a blackberry, I send by email, so I just wanted a faster way to send pictures rather than typing the same email over and over again.
Have you tried using the "Groups" tool in the HTC Contact application? Not sure if it can do e-mail or just phone numbers since I'm not using it myself.
I dunno about the Groups tool, going to check it now.
But I found a good thing about HTC, thats why I love this phone.
If you assign someone with an email in Contacts, then by typing the first letter (or first few) in the " TO : " Field, the name will pop instantly, saving time from typing it all !!!
So its :
*take a picture
*press mailbox sign
*choose email
*type first letter
*choose contact
*send
Love it
But what is the groups tool you mentioned pphuck ??

my guess is that you can create a group of people and then use this group for your photo mail, but i haven't tested it myself
Not sure how that would work though, because you are supposed to enter contacts' emails in "Send To" field

i would presume that you could enter the name of the group as a contact
I just tried that, didnt work.
It sounds like a great idea though, it should be implemented !!

"send contact by message"

Quick clarification please.
I have been used to sending contact details as an SMS message.
When I click send contact by message I get the option to send as SMS or MMS.
I have tried sending as SMS but receivers either say they get nothing or else an empty vcard.
I am resigned to having to send any contacts as an MMS attachment?
Having played with this extensively this morning I find that sending a contact via SMS either:
-nothing
-blank email
-email with vcard containing my details arrives
Need to send contacts via MMS - this way it sends a vcard which can be imported by the recipient
Hmm... I at least have the same problem but it's on both SMS and MMS. Recognizes the vCard, but unable to open it.
I still occaisionally get problems.
Send a number to a colleague last week by MMS and they couldn't open it. I tried opening my own attachment and it tried opening it as a video!
It seems to be working if I'm sending it to myself, no difference if SMS or MMS. The problem is that I don't have much use of sending contact information to myself.
Those I have been sending vCards to use Nokia phones.

My Nokia never understood my Sony phone either (neither my X1 nor the non-Winmo prior)
Yep, but at least sending vCards to Nokia phones worked with my TYTNII without problems!
Maybe I have to test and try to send vCards HD2 -> TYTNII later today.
Working
Hi guys,
just tried it and for me its working fine.I sent it from my HD2 Leo to my work phone Nokia.
Only problem what I can see is I select only one phone number and nothing else but received also extra information like birthday,anniversary,..
good evening chaps
this may be worth looking at as it solved my problem of sending multiple contacts in one go.
vCard Expert from windows phone marketplace let me save my contacts into a file that i sent as an email attachment. Also tried vCard manager which didn't work very well.
any solution yet? phones from 10 years ago can do this easily.
i don't know the matter with sending 'phone' contacts, but you can send the numbers stored on your sim card by SMS.. the recepient will get the sms saying that a contact no. has been sent (no phone number is displayed), but when the recipient presses the accept button, the contact no. gets saved into the list of the recipient's contacts.
but then you know, sim contacts have only the phone no, cant store much detail on sim.

No, at least I haven't got any solution for the problem.
In my opinion it should be simple feature that should be working all around, but apparently not...
