[APP] RenameContacts: Change the "File As" on a contact without Outlook. - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I don't have Outlook installed on my desktop, and I wanted to rename some of my Contacts. File As options I had were: "First Last", OR "Last, First." Kinda weak.
Made this in 5 mins, probably took longer to write this up..
Here if any one else is interested.
In the zip:
Source, the VS.Net 2008 C#/.Net CF 2.0 project.
RenameContacts.exe, run from an SD card, or where ever.

Thank you! Looking right now

thanks but fdcsoft PPC contact Manager is a better option.

ok thanks for this nice little app

Nice work, but you don't need

As wapvirus suggested, I needed to rename a lot of contacts. Also.. as I mentioned. The drop down in my contact panel has two options. "Last, First" OR "First Last"
I see yours has four options, but there's still no way to name some one "Mum." Is there?

Doesn't it, ppccontactsmgr only deleted selected contacts. And adds contacts from SMS and Call history? Not rename contacts?
Hmm, tried "Rename" but I think you need them both
Standard I have the below on my device.

Oooooooooohhh man it's so great !!!
I was just facing the issue of having to name my contact with their stupid facebook name to get theim to link with the new Manila vga port.
It's working perfect but... (yes there's always a but. This one is very small and propably easy to solve) ... I would like to be able to launch it from my Internal Storage. For the moment it only finds my contacts when launched from Windows folder

I launched it from a storage card which worked. So why not from Internal storage?

[request] Orange m600 Today Screen Plug-in

I just ran across some pics of the Orange m600 (HTC Prophet) today screen and noticed that it uses a really cool plug-in, different than any today screen plug-in I've yet to see (with the exception to WA2).

Would it be possible for anyone that has one of these to extract the plug-in from the ROM image?
u sure? I had orange rom and hated that plugin....
nonetheless here it is if you want to try it:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Extended_ROMs/Orange_Extended_ROM/UI_Orange_UK_0727.cab
cheers
may i ask why you did not like this plugin? did it slow down the device too much?
From my point of view I prefer the normal today screen.
There's a guy in our office has one and likes the plugin.
Try it and see, that's all I can say.

Thanks for looking into the cab-file (why I didn't do it myself?)
Is there any way to get the Orange plugin or is it an endless quest......
Kick....
You can try to get from the ftp here, which is the extended ROM of Orange Magician.
The problem is, you do not know which one it is. Make your guess.
BACKUP YOUR PHONE before installing any of those CABs. You may not able to remove it later.
Anyway, my guess
Orange_New_Today.sa.CAB
Let us know what you've got.
No it is just TSK inside... i have not found in any of the orange ext roms such plugin
TSKs are almost regular CABs. You can check it - change the TSK extension to CAB and open in OCPSoft WinCE Cab Manager.
I know this of course, my point is that in Orange_New_Today.sa.CAB there is only one TSK file

adding phone/email to existing contacts

Is there a easy way to add a phone number from received call list or an email from outlook email list to an existing contact? THe outlook gives an option to add the email address to contacts, but it makes a new contact. Its a pain to cut and paste the email address and then add it to the existing contact.
I am using a T-mobile MDA.

I'll bump this one back up - I find it very frustrating also.
Matt
I have not personally tried this, but it looks like it will do what you are looking for. Well, at least for the phone contact part of your post. Plus it's freeware.

Hope this helps.
Looks good But does not support WM5
Can anyone suggest something else?

Insert contact numbers when composing SMS messages.
I created this simple application because sometimes when i send contact details to other phones using vcard, they cannot seem to receive it. Also, it's very frustrating to copy/paste contact details from the contacts window to the new sms window.
I hope this will help other members too
Download it HERE
great work..i some times have need for it
Hi Oldsap,
I appreciate the work. I actually use this old version from Ondrej at airfagev that was built for WM2003 I believe but works perfectly on WM 6.1. I like it because it adds an option in the main contacts area on the menu bar itself (not a separate application). Here's the description:
This free Contacts Add-On has been inspired by RJV SendContact. Since the SendContact has many drawbacks like you can't use T9 search from list of Contacts, etc., Ondrej has developed this and shared it to airfagev as a freeware.
After installing the app, you should see Send via email/SMS added to your contacts menu. This utility also allows you to select which contact info you want to send like Name, Mobile No., Work No., etc. Thanks to Ondrej.
hey oldsap, thanks muchly for the Insert Contacts app, it's certainly easier than faffing about trying to copy & paste!
gadgetshrink, i've installed the contacts menu app a few times on WM6 Touch but cannot find anyway to activate / use it on the phone...
any help? maybe i'm missing something?

Contacts in "Messaging"

Has anyone found another way around this? When you go to Messaging > New message...do you really have to put in a phone number or can you type a name instead?
Because If i type in a name, it just types in the numerical equivalent of the letters. for example: Ryan Smith comes out to "7926 76484"
Does Google actually think that people will memorize the phone numbers of the contacts they want to text message?
So the way around it for now is to go to Contacts and click on "Send Txt Message" but I've been spoiled with the Dash where I can just search for the contacts in the messaging client itself.
when I go to messaging>new message and I type in a name, it has a list to select from. The first is the numerical equivalent, but under that are all the matching names in my phone book. Is yours not like this?

Me too....
it's weird cuz i do. since there is no program that takes screenshots of the g1 yet, i took a picture:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
i tried typing in Cheryl Addeco (don't worry, it's not a real name haha) and it never displayed the phone number I inputed 14089994433. Instead, it just did the "numerical equivalent" of 243795 233326
weird... it should show below it did on mine... I will get screen shots tomorrow of what I do.
i get a list of my contacts as well not sure why this is happenning to some and not others.
yeah i,ve had that problem with i first got the phone.
I didn't use Gmail for contacts much.
I exported my contacts from outlook using CSV
and then imported them into gmail when i got my G1.
I was having the same exact problem as the OP.
I've noticed a pattern with it though.
It only happened with some contacts.
Other contacts it would show up when i started typing their name.
I tried to find something in common with the ones that showed up.
I realized that when i had a POS nokia 6131, when i added contacts it saved their number as "Other"
When i added contacts with my iphone, i had a chance to select it as "Mobile".
The contacts that show, have (Mobile) next to the names.
So i went into my Gmail, and edited all the numbers to be Mobile as opposed to Other.
After i finished that everything was fine!
All of them are Mobile...if they're supposed to be in Mobile. Interestingly enough, I tried playing around with changing them from Mobile to Home and when I click on save, it doesn't save the changes and leaves it to whatever it was.
The ONLY number that shows up is the one I added. I noticed though when I looked in GMail contacts that for the person that shows up, it says "mobile" and the rest of my contacts say "Mobile"

[Q] Editing the "Me" contact card...

Whenever I look at a text message conversation it puts "Me" as blank picture: (see first picture).
But whenever I try to edit "Me" from the "People" application, the device just hangs and won't let me edit anything. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone know where to fix it? Thanks!

From what I remember reading a while back, you will need to make sure that your sim card has your number set in to it... From what I remember reading, you can do this using an iphone or a blackberry... The cyanogenmod rom used to do this from what I recall... But can't say 100%...
Unless someone can correct me, as I only used android for a few weeks
I'd like to piggyback off this question and ask if theres a way to make one of our contacts "Me" or just overwrite it.

On Windows Mobile there was an option to copy any contact into the "Me" contact but I can't find that option, should there be one on Android!
The "Me" thing is an HTC thing, not an ANDROID thing. In Vanilla Android there is nothing like this in the People area, you just have a contact card of yourself. I can edit my "Me" information fine. If you go on Google.com and edit your contacts with your name, it seems to change it as you login to facebook and stuff and it auto associates you with yourself, ie my Facebook is Josh ______, my twitter is GlitchZero, it auto links these things to "Me" or "Josh ______" in my Google contacts.
Ah thank you for that information. I did a hard reset & made sure "Me" was not associated with any Facebook or Google account & it works perfectly, thanks!
