Tf2d to tf3d? Possible? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

is it possible to take a tf2d theme and make it a tf3d theme? i found a theme that i really like but it is tf2d. is it something I can do? I have never done any programming on my own. Is there a 2d to 3d converter program out there that I can use?

Nope, nope and nope.
Sorry haha.

unless you code it into TF3d theirs no way to do a direct swap. out of curiosity do you have a link to the theme?

no but I do have the file.

thats a fairly nice theme, it would take some time to convert, all the images are QVGA, they would have to be upscaled and then touched up.
it can be done, but its not something i really want to put too much time into,
if your interested to try it yourself:

thats the Mode9 editor, good stuff, will allow you to edit any image in manila

thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I run a MAC at home so I cannot use this program. I guess I will just have to keep searching then.

What's the best TF3D customiser?

Sorry, I know this has probably already been asked but there's so many threads and customisers I can't keep up.
Can anyone tell me what the best customiser would be for simply changing things like clock transparency/format and slider designs?
Thanks

Manila Editor + PaintshopPro, It is fun, try it!
Or Artweaver or GIMP, which are free paintshop type softwares.
If you want to create your own themes and graphics, do as uniqueboy suggests. However, if you are just looking to change the look of manila, using other people's shared work, use Manila Customizer, just as BlazeItUp says. It's very user friendly.
Thanks, I'm just looking to make my diamond look better. I'm quite useless at making things myself.
Cheers

How to get images from TF3D

All is in the title, How can we get images from TP2 TF3D to edit them ?
Go to your Windows folder and copy out every single _manila file. Then load Manila Editor which can be found by searching XDA and go through them 1 by 1 to see which is which and then replace the images with ones created.
There are about 400 files, its time consuming
Manila Editor doesn't work with TP2 or TD2 manila images

Not true, You can export the images as PNG.
Manila Editor 0.2 works. I finally got the icons that I wanted. Thanks nicelad_uk.
You can also use CFC 0.55.
Search for this it also has a nice GUI.
I had problem with CFC 0.55. It was much easier to use but some how could not get the icons to work.
sorry for asking, but is anyone of you willingly to share the images/icons of the HTC Touch Pro 2 with me?

TouchFLO, Manila, 2D, 3D ???

I remember reading somewhere that Touch3G aka Jade has TouchFlo 2.
But on my Jade if I go to Settings/System/TouchFLO it says:
TouchFLO version 3.0 (build 31508).
So what do I have? Manila, Touchflo, 2D, 3D ??? Could somebody please explain the HTC language to me?
Also, specific to the Jade, what is the difference between themes and skins? Isn't it the same? I am reasonably computer literate, but like clear definitions of things.
Reading through the posts on Manila modifications, one poster stated:
What version of TouchFLO have you installed? You need to have at least M2D version 20
How come that my phone is new, and I only have version 3??
Thanks for help
Joe
Manilla 2D
The Jade has TouchFlo 2D (as in 2 dimensional) also known as Manila 2D, TF2D or M2D.
Themes and skins are, afaik, the same, and the person stating that you have to have at least version 20 means version 2.0 actually.
'Manila' btw is HTC's codename for the Touchflo interface
Touchflo 3D (also known as Manila 3D, TF3D of M3D) is a different story.
Whether a HTC phone has TouchFlo 2D or 3D depends on the capacity and resolution of the screen. The Jade has a QVGA screen (quarter VGA aka 240 x 320 pixels) and can't handle the TF3D animations and touch posibilities.
A phone with a VGA screen (640 x 480 pixels), like the Diamond, usually has Touhflo 3D.
Fellow forumers, plz correct me if i'm wrong....but this is what i know.
Hope i helped you out a bit
Thank you Nirak for help. So I have TouchFLO 2D v.3.
If have a few more questions for those who modified their Touchflo -
If I want to change my Touchflo, I understand I have two choices -
Uninstall it (don't know how) and find and install a new one; or
modify the existing one with registry edits and/or Manila Customiser.
This Customiser - is it basically a new additional program that runs alongside the existing TouchFLO, or is it something like a registry editor that only modifies the existing TouchFLO and can be later uninstalled?
Thanks
Joe

If you want to change (I assume modify/customise) you can do many things including changing the registry, yes and also change the graphics, etc.

AFAIK, briefly the customiser (M2DC) does not run alongside. It's just a program that does (simplify) the registry editing and a few *.xml files (for customisation) for those who do not wish to dwell into. yes M2DC can be uninstalled (after using) and TF2D runs fine.
I am not sure how to uninstall TF2D but you can always deactivate if you do not wish to use it and use other today themes or plugins, etc.
uninstalling TF2D that is included (cooked) in your ROM is not possible, but as Azahidi says, you can deactivate it and use the standard Windows interface, or any other shell you prefer, like SPB Mobile Shell, and there are others.
Basically TF2D is also just a shell round your Windows Mobile System, that's suppossed to make it easier to use (not always is...) and more 'eye candier' .
The M2DCustomizer is a easy to use utility to modify the settings of TF2D and use other skins, look over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392
and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425974 (older skins)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702
Since i'm not that much of a techi i like using M2D Customizer, but just like Azahidi says, these modifyings can also be done by editing the registry and/or .xml files
To give you an idea, here is a screenshot of my Jade's homepage with basically the standard TF2D, modified with another skin:
Thanks azahidi and Nirak.
I've been reading all those posts several times, it is starting to make some sense.
Looking at the M2D Customizer - I believe it will back up the existing factory Touchflo and I can restore it if the mods did not work or I did not like them. Is this correct?
Apart from other mods, I would like to change the email widget to a 'Tasks' widget. I would like to see a different icon instead of the envelope and instead of the sheet of paper sticking out of the envelope I would like to see a list of tasks etc.
I don't think that the Manila Customiser can do that. Is that correct?
And I don't think I could achieve this by getting a new skin, could I ?
Maybe there is a program somewhere to design a complete shell from scratch on desktop PC??
Joe
I think you should test Spb-Mobile Shell 3. It is very good.
14 days-trial and information here:

Thanks, MvBoe, I think I will try it.

Yep, totally, just remember first thing to do is making a back up of your original theme, M2D Customizer has a tab for it ('restore')

You can install anything on your device, depending on the purpose and your liking, and how you want to customise your today screen. Yes you can install Manilla2D (TF2D). Just search xda, get (download) the .cab file to your PC, copy to your device (or download straight to your device) and then run it.
Many thanks for your answer azahidi.
I tried to install M2D as you told me. I folowed the guide witch is here. So that I have installed HTC Home v 2.1. and after that [11.3.08-Update 20] M2D Build 1.0.18203328 - Jade (TOUCH 3G Version). Restarted device, but nothing happened. When I turn my Home screen as TouchFLO, on my screen appeares text: "Tap here to launch TouchFLO" and when I tap there, the whole device becomes to be totally frozen.
Can anyone help?

I greatly agree. SPB Shell is 10 times better and user friendlier then TF2D. I had TF2D for about a week and tried out SPB Shell 3.5 and I have never gone back. I am one happy customer.

Animated Wallpaper?

Is it possible to have animated wallpaper on the TF3D home screen? If so, where's the best source of these? Thanks.
Guess it can't be done then...
It cannot be done as even with apng once it is converted to manila file it will lose its animations... not only that the device would not support it anyway. And .gif is not possible atm to convert to manila.

Ok. Many thanks for the reply. It's a pity - you could on my crappy W910i!
Animated backgrounds
I was curious about this as well.. I have actually seen a video of them in action. And my TP2 even has a option to turn them on. But... no one ever includes them in a ROM release's? Please someone set me straight. I know they are out there and work! No one ever talks about them though. Whats the low down?
Matt
in the LEO roms by NRGZ28 are some animated wallpapers to choose from, at least in the release of 23/09.
Manila 2.5 from HTC Leo supports animated Wallpaper, I tried it out on Friday! It#s really cool to look on it but it seems to use more battery! :-/

Creating a traditional Today theme (NOT Manilla)

I'm looking to create my own Today theme, same as I did for my Kaiser, but it's simply not working.. I'm using ThemeGenCE 2.6 from here: http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1523
Problem is when I create it, it looks fine in ThemeGenCE but when I load it I just get a very generic looking Today screen with a green/blue fade looking background and blue top/bottom bars, Start Menu (QuickMenu) is a white background.
I've been using the "Classic Blue" theme which is okay, but wanted to change the background, it all looks fine when I use it. So I copied that to my computer, loaded it into ThemeGenCE, only changed the images, saved it back, still the same generic looking theme.
Anyone know how to create traditional Today themes for 6.5? Note again! I want to create a Today theme, not a Manilla/TF3D/etc theme! I don't use TF3D, I use Pocket Plus.
Attaching an example of what the theme looks like when I try to load it..
Search my friend. It has been discussed in this forum a lot of time before. 6.5 themes are based on reg. So you need to have those reg in your theme.
Best way is to take classic blue, rename it to cab, then extract reg. Use that in your new theme.
Search and you will find more info. If not hollar, i will give more detailed explanation later.

Huh. And here, all this time I've been using OCP's CAB Extracter to modify the default blue theme to include my own backgrounds... I guess that's called the 'hard way' now.
Okay, maybe I'm confused, because everywere I look are MANILLA themes, not today themes.
I'll look into checking out the theme I'm using as a cab and messing with it, but the rest are all Manilla themes, right? Am I wrong there? For example the Microsoft generator is not for the Today theme right?
Maybe I'm just confused, but I'm pretty sure those references are mainly for Manilla.

The Microsoft generator is for TSK today themes. Manila is made by HTC and therefore, Microsoft doesn't do anything with it.

The only problem with that generator is that it doesn't quite work correctly with 6.5.1 ROMs. Using a CAB editor is still the way to go with 6.5.1.

BTW I tried this thing 4 times last night, it never works. It never seems to create the file and eventually fails and says to restart the browser and try again.. Typical.
Okay I guess I'm an idiot, how do I edit a cab file? I've installed a trial of WinCE CAB Manager and I see the files, but no idea how to extract or replace the files in it.
I just want to replace my two jpg's with the one in the cab, yes? Perhaps some other tool would be better.
EDIT: Duh, drag and drop, uh, a few times, fiddle, drag and drop again... Success!
If anyone wants it, here's my theme, thanks for the help guys! Added the image used to create it as a preview, I could take a screenshot if someone wants.
