Hello all,
I bought a G1 from ebay and the seller said it is unlocked.
I put my sim card (3 network in the UK) and the only options are to do an Emergency Call, or to proceed with login into my Google account.
I try login in Google and it fails. The only options I have access to are the APN settings.
I found the settings for my network in this post
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/g1-3-three-apn-settings-7744/
Still, it won't work...
Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?
Is the phone sim-locked? Do I have to use different APN settings?
I also noticed that the first time I turned on the phone, I gor asked about roaming and if I wanted to turn it back on. I said yes, and I got into some settings where I could choose the Network, etc. I selected my network, but that didn't help.
Since that time, I cannot find where this settings screen is! As I said, I can only go to the APN settings.
Any help would be welcome!
Sounds like your phone is unlocked and you have wrong apn settings. If it still sim-locked you would have to put in a code before it would let you do anything. Google some more for your correct settings and make sure you're putting in the right google account credentials. if all fails, search this forum for bypassing google registration and doing it later over wi-fi.
Good luck
For me it elped to delete all my other APN settings (not that you need them)

My friend got a T-Mobile myTouch 3G from USA. They said to him that the phone is unlocked, and he still has a code recieved from T-Mobile. But, whenever the phone is switched on, there is no signal, and it asks me to input google account. Is there anyway to bypass it just to get in Android?
If another code is needed for buying, that's not a problem, but we just want to make the phone works.
thanks in advance!
are you talking about SIM LOCK?? if its still locked, put the NEW SIM card into the phone (not the t-mobile card). That will enable you to enter the UNLCOK code, which you will have to purchase elsewhere (look on ebay, i buy mine there)
Now the Google account is straightforward, come on everyone has a Google or Gmail account. When you turn the phone on and that Google account screen appears, hit MENU and WIRELESS SETTINGS will appear. Now connect to a WiFi network and log into you Gmail account.
If you dont goto Google NOW and get a account. Also make sure you post this in the GENERAL section or Q/A section, this is for ROMs and DEVs
No mate, you didn't understand me. His friend overseas got that phone, and sent it to him here in Serbia. Phone came in original T-Mobile pack, without the T-Mobile SIM card. He also got an unlock code from T-Mobile which he still has written on a piece of paper. But, when we enter any other SIM card (Telenor Serbia, VIP Serbia), we don't have signal, and we can't get through first screen which asks you for Google account. Since we don't have signal, we cannot use 3G/Edge data, and there is no way to use wireless (you cannot choose it).
So to be more clear, you power up the phone, there is emergency call button and change language button and Android logo. You click on Android, it asks you for Google account, but you cannot use wireless (and there is no signal to use data services)
So, the thing is, I posted it into Dev section so someone can say me if I can maybe flash some ROM onto it and disable this startup screen.
Thanks for your help anyway!
Did you press Menu at screen with google account? If your T-Mobile has Android 1.6 - there is options to setup wireless connection
Didn't think of that, thanks a million times!
There I cou'dve choose network and setup my APN, so after that everything worked
Thanks once again!
Hi guys, I'm new to this part of XDA, mainly because I dont own a Wildfire & I'm posting this on behalf of my dad - to whom the phone belongs to. Anyway... Lets get down to business!
The Story:
- I recently went on holiday so I got my phone unlocked to any network. (It is still unrooted, branded etc just as it was on day one)
- While on holiday we got a local SIM so we wouldn't get bombarded with massive roaming charges
- Everything was fine and dandy on holiday
- When we got back to the airport back home the original SIM card was put back into the phone, but it wouldn't show any signal
The Problem:
If you went into "About phone" > "Network" the following is displayed
Operator name: Unknown
Signal strength: 0
Mobile network type: Unknown
Service state: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
But if you go into the testing menu it shows that there is signal and comes up ~-99asu or there abouts
But if I go into mobile network and try to select a network manually I just get "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network" and my lock screen displays "Limited service"
The Attempted Fix:
Here's a list of things I've tried to do to fix it with no avail:
- Changing SIM cards (every SIM doesn't work - even those that do work in other phones)
- Rebooting
- Factory resetting
- Turning radio off & on in hidden testing menu
- Shouting at it really loudly
- Changing WCDMA prefered thing (Does't do anything, just reverts back)
- Phoning up Three UK (Originally bought from)
They say they didn't do anythng to the phone i.e. Accidentally blacklist it
- Phoning up HTC
They say phone up Three - it's their problem
- Phoning up Three... Again!
They say go into a Three store and they'll diagnose the problem and try to fix it
- Going into a Three store
They say phone up the SIM card company I used abroad - No, really. They did say that!
- Phoning up random foreign SIM card company
It was a pain top finally get someone who spoke English, They told me to ask Three! AAAAAARRRGHHH
So basically, I thought i'd come to you guys for help. Have you any suggestions? Who should I pointlessly call next? Have you seen this problem before? Am I mad for trying this hald already? Is the phone just borked? Are all the network providers just idiots? Do I have any option other than to smash this into lots of tiny pieces and buy a new phone?
I still think it's one of the carriers faults for accidentally blacklisting it, but they wont listen. Is there anyway I can unblacklist it without going through the carriers. Is there any regulatory body that will help me in doing that (I'm in the UK)
Thank you very much XDA Community!
Did 3 check your apn settings where correct?
Normally a carrier will phone you back on a different phone line so you can check the settings are correct or you can find them via Google.
The apn settings are located in settings/wireless & networks/mobile network/access point names (I think that's the correct path)
I think after a factory reset it should ask which network (apn) you want to connect to, it did on mine. I got 3 options o2 prepay, o2 post pay or giffgaff.
Reason I ask is I didn't see any mention of apn in your post and this is important as you cannot connect to any carriers network if the apn is missing or wrong.

Hummmm... It looks like something is damaged. If the phone is covered by warranty, use it. If don't, you can always try to reflash the original firmware or rooting it and falsh a custom ROM.
This is all I can say. Hope you get an answer soon.
I have a Telus Galaxy Note 3 N900W8. It has APN settings by default for sp.telus.com, which are all greyed out.
It has isp.telus.com, which I want to use (I'm using a data-only plan/sim card), but I cannot select it.
I added a new APN and replicated the isp.telus.com, but apparently by looking at my billing I was started to get charged lots of money, and the new APN I added is gone (I'm assuming due to a reboot!).
I do not want to root my phablet, and I'm thinking of sending it back. Apparently rooting sets off a trip counter. Is rooting the phone the only way to fix my problem, actually most importantly, can I fix this default APN stuff and greyed out stuff if I root my phone?
Any help is appreciated
Had a similar issue on my SM-9005 - Can't edit the APN settings, when I add a new one, it vanishes after a short period. -- Thinking that the device reads the sim for data info directly and pulls from it? - however the mystery of the vanishing APN I have no clue about.
Still looking for a solution.. Let me describe my problem again:
So I have a Telus Galaxy Note 3 (I paid full price), and I got a tablet only plan from TELUS.
Problem is, when I put the SIM card in my phone, it defaults to sp.telus.com, and doesnt allow me to switch to isp.telus.com.
I have to manually add a new APN with isp.telus.com, or else im charged outrageous charges. Even worse, sometimes the new APN gets deleted and switches back to sp.telus.com ($$$$).
I unlocked my phone and put a bell SIM card in it, and it goes to pda.bell.ca (apparently the tablet only plan is on pda2.bell.ca, so im assuming i have to do the same thing).
Have anyone been through the same thing, any tips? Do i have to completely root my phone and put another ROM like cyanogenmod to solve this problem? (I dont really wanna lose all my S-Note features though..)
I looked for apps, and apparently no apn apps exist anymore.
At the very least i need a widget or something that writes my APN on the homescreen so i can verify if im on the wrong APN often.
Help!

you can try to use this code...
*#272*IMEI#
Replace the imei in red with your imei number of your phone.
As soon as you press dial, it will show you a selection of APN network. Look for the one you wish to use but... this will FACTORY RESET your Phone.
I had Telus and wanted to have Koodo for network... so I chose the koodo one and now every time I put the sims in it loads koodo network apn
Hope this helps...
Do some more reserch if you're not sure.

I'd be willing to reset my phone, but I can't get to that menu. It says USSD connecting then I get invalid connection MMI, tried many times and different ways. Did you do this on a Telus Note 3?

Yes... Bought a SM-N900W8 from TELUS which used the Telus APN...
TYPED IN the phone dial pad... *#272*000000000000000# (replace 0's with your IMEI number.)
You should then see a screen as shown below.
Just make sure you see the one you need before you do anything.

Cool thanks it worked! You just gave me a workaround. If i put the telus one, it still defaults to the Telus SP apn.. So im gonna install the bell one and manually add my telus ISP apn, that way ill never end up on sp.telus.com!
I think i might switch to bell data flex plan, only if it uses the default APN set (i think pda.bell.ca).. I just got to find out what apn their tablet flex plan uses
Happy to see that it helped you somehow.
Good idea to do it via Bell.
There is a way to add an APN to the script but I am not confident enough on a linux system.
I'm sure someone could show you how if possible, then it would show potentially on the *#272*# Code.
Hey everyone, not sure if this is something obvious... I've never had this happened with an unlocked phone before. I have the Dual sim variant of the Z5P (E6883 ), and when I put my sim-card into the phone I got voice service but no data. I checked all settings, everything was set to turn on but no avail. After calling "Virgin Mobile" they were able to get a solution for me... Apparently I had to go into the mobile networks screen in the settings, and manually configure the access point for all my carrier's addresses, ports and proxies to get the data to work.
All my previous phones have been unlocked and I've never ran into this, Maybe this will help someone in the same situation!

I had to do this with my Z Ultra.
Hi all,
My Google Pixel has the microphone defect so it'll be going in for warranty repairs. So I took out the SIM from my Australian i9505G and put in the Japanese SIM from the Pixel (with an adapter micro -> mini). But I couldn't get a signal. I also couldn't save the APN details. (Selecting the menu button, then 'Save' did nothing).
Just to double check, I put the Australian SIM back in, it works as usual. I tried adding an APN with the Australian SIM still inside, but same error. I can't save any APNs. (As such, I doubt it's a Japanese vs Australian SIM problem).
This i9505G is rooted, but it was done so long ago that I can't remember what method I used. I'm pretty sure I kept the stock ROM and just removed a few apps that were bugging me. i don't have ClockWork Mod installed as far as I can tell (but I am a bit nooby, so maybe I've missed something obvious).
Any ideas on how I can get this thing to save APNs? Maybe I should upgrade the OS? It's currently on Jellybean, so some of my apps from the Pixel won't even install.
I dunno how helpful it is, but I'm in Japan. (I keep my Australian phone around for when I travel home to Australia.)
EDIT: I tried resetting the APN settings through the settings menu - no change
Hi,
Could it be that the phone is simlocked?
@LexHimself: No, because the I9505G was not sold through a carrier but by Google itself. Therefore, no carrier lock.
I noticed when I would change the MNC number, it would make the APN disappear. First try just naming the APN and saving it without changing anything else, then go back into it to continue editing.
