Flashing a Generic Rom without HardSPL? - XPERIA X1 General

Hey everyone!
I wanted to get confirmed what I read today. Just to make sure
Is it true that you can flash the new Generic DE Rom on a Vodafone branded DE Rom without doing the HardSPL thing first?
Is it really done by naming the image Kovsimg.nbh without using HardSPL?
I don't want to mess with the SPL, so that would be great.

If you are referring to the post in which I posted as well, then yes.
I had a t-mobile NL branded and flashed a generic UK rom on it without using Hardspl.

As long as it is a ROM that is on SEUS, then it can be applied without HardSPL as it is digitally signed by SE.
I overwrote my O2 branded R1A ROM for the Generic UK R2A ROM without HardSPL.

G'day ZenithUK,
What method did you use to upgrade your ROM? Did you use jackleung's microSD method as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445662?

Yes, that's the exact method I used.
Just ignore point 0.

Yep
As I have mentioned in several threads to several people, I have done the same, using the Generic UK ROM (Official) posted in the ROM thread.
The only thing stopping you flashing a different ROM is whether or not it's official (signature), not the region it comes from, since all regions are still digitally signed.
Cooked ROMs of course do not work because they are not digitally signed.

I've downloaded a couple of ROMs and after I extract them I get; APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_KOV_R2A.exe and APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_R2AA010.exe, the latter is the later and most up to date one (I think?). Is this the file you rename and copy to the microSD card?
Sorry for the noob questions, but I find this a bit scary and I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks

They are self extracting archives. Run them on your PC to extract the image (Change hte default path because it noticed it defaults to the system folder in the windows dir.) then copy the image to your device.

Sorry me again ...
After I run app on my PC I get APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_KOV_R2AA010.image. Ok now I rename this file Kovsimg.nbh, copy it to the micro-sd, put it in my X1, big deep breath and away we go. Is that correct?

Sorry for the double post ...

Yes
Correct....

Today my 2GB MicroSD arrived which I wanted use for flashing.
1) I formatted it to FAT32
2) I downloaded the Generic German Rom from PavelX1
3) I extracted the image and renamed it
4) I put the Micro in my X1 and took the batterie out and put it back in
5) I started the bootloader and it says "Loading" for less than a second and than "No image found!" for a millisec.
6) The 4 colored-screen comes up with the color at the bottom beeing just white with "Serial" in it.
I don't think I did something wrong... Maybe the Generic vom PavelX1 isn't the original signed Generic? Any idea where I can download it?

Is the rom you downloaded a cooked room (custom rom) if so you need to hardspl (search forum) if its offical SE rom you should be ok.

It's the one provided by PavelX1 as Generic DE.

I tried the Generic from a different source and it still says "No Image file!" on the 4 colored screen.
So it doesn't work without HardSPL on a German Vodafone branded phone
Edit: NO matter of HardSPL BUT a matter of the right MicroSD!
I could have tried forever with my 2 GB Kingston... I tried with a 8 GB NoName and it worked like a charm!

Roms on the FTP

Hi all,
I uploaded all roms + extended roms I have for our beloved HTC Wizard.
You can find them here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/HTC_Wizard/
Maybe a (FTP) administrator can move them to the main FTP index so we have a folder like all other HTC phones.
Any new roms can ofcourse be uploaded to the same folder.
Have fun!
Hey
why you don't have an german rom ?
regards, Peter
Because I dont have any German roms myself.
I uploaded all roms I found myself...
If you can provide me any links than I can download it and upload to the XDA FTP.
Has anyone managed to make a ROM dump of the UK T-Mobile ROM?
I would be interested in an o2 UK rom also.
Would be nice.
Yeah, would be good to get an archive of all the roms, good work on getting this started.
If i wasn't in such a hurry to flash my Rom i would have waited until i got a Mini SD card and backed my UK T-Mobile ROM up first, im just too impatient! Wish i had waited now, as now i am after it again!!
Anyone?... :?
Thanks Panja
can anyone upload the TW_Chinese ROM? Thanks

How i can do this? Is there any proggy which backup the rom?
To backup your rom you need to do the folowing...
First:
Your phone needs to have the bootloaded unlocked ,so use the following unlock tool lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2a created by machinagod which can be found here, and when you run the PC app choose 'C' for SuperCID (this will unlock the bootloader) Version 0.2a is the latest and it worked great on my phone, instructins are on the page - Thank you machinagod for all your work here, its a great tool!
Second:
To backup the ROM, download the two files attached to This Post written by arnoldl - Thanks for this info arnoldl, very helpful. Follow the instructions in the post.
Third:
Which ROM is it by the way? T-Mobile? O2? is it a UK ROM?
When you have it saved can you upload it to The FTP area and post here to tell us what it's called and where it is so it can be catalogued with others to help build a good archive of them.
Cheers and Hope this info helps

you can restore the image only, when you leave the image on the sd-card.
when you write it on your harddisk with ntrw and write it back to sd-card with ntrw the restore won't work!
Nobody here has confirmed, that the image (here on ftp) are working!

Cheers greddy - i was just about to post that!!
Can the image on the SD card be coppied to a Zip or Rar file directly and NOT using NTRW? Maybe this can be tried and extracted back onto a mini SD card by someone else, im very willing to try it, then we will all know if this works.
So for now bill_viper - Backup your ROM to MiniSD card but do not use NTRW!! Just keep that Mini SD card safe and do not delete it until a safe way of backing up the image to a distributable file or archive has been found.
I've just done a bit more reading and it looks like you can use NTRW to create a backup file of the ROM from the SD card image.
The problem experienced is with loading ANY rom onto the device using the 1.06 bootloader (the one with the K-JAM rom) so in order to put a Rom onto a device with the 1.06 K-Jam rom - the 1.06 bootloader) you first have to put the prodigy rom on or something like this using the *.exe file as it has a different bootloader (1.01)
So bill_viper please do use NTRW to backup the ROM image on your MiniSD card, and please post it on the FTP for archiving.
Cheers
First of all i would like thanq mattstroud for your time.
The info u've posted are very helpful. I have a Qtek 9100 English Version.
I will read the thread u specified above and i'll backup my rom and upload it.
Hello mattstroud
i have try Booloader 1.01, 1.03 and 1.06!
No luck and not the reason, why ntrw makes **** when read and
wrote images.
We will see 8)

..
Hi greddy,
did you not have a damaged image file wasn't that the reason for your problems?
----------EDIT----------
Seeing sun75's post proves that the problem does lie with the 1.06 Bootloader and not the NTRW image, so greddy i think your image file was damaged which caused problems regardless of which bootloader was being used.
Cheers for this info sun75, good to get some definite proof after all.

Ok, i didn't know this. Looking at sun75's post it worked fine for him when he loaded a rom with the 1.03 bootloader. Maybe this problem is specific to your device? :?
2 new roms added:
K-JAM_Italian_1030902_102_ship.exe
K-JAM_Norwegian_1040902_104_10910_ship.exe

Any one able to add a T-Mobile UK ROM?

Get rid of icons in the programsmenü?

Hey everyone!
I used the search, but didn't find a match for my question.
I have a Vodafone branded X1 and don't want to flash another rom (not yet).
I have erased the Vodafone settings under "Connections" so it shouldn't connect to anything Vodafone WAP/GPRS/UMTS, right?
Now I need to get rid of the 3 Vodafone Icons named "VF E-MailConect etc" in the Programmsmenü. Any way to delete them?
Thanks!
Hi
Get a file Explorer (Total Commander/Resco - I can Attach the former if you need because it's freeware)
Go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Delete any shortcuts you don't want.
Also, to properly disable the voda rubbish (I also have UK Voda Xperia) Just reflash with Generic UK, No HardSPL required, and it fixes a lot of the Voda muck ups.
P.S. Deleting the connections I found didn't really "delete" them, and the phone can still connect to them when it needs to.
Instead, install an app called "NoData" and toggle them to disabled. it can also be done with Advanced Config (I believe). Again, i can attach the files if needed.
Thank you so much for your answer!
I'll get the Total Commander and install NoData!
I have a German Vodafone branded phone. I never read before that I don't have to use HardSPL to get the unbranded Rom working. Are you sure about that one? Thanks a lot!
Yep
Yep, 100%, I refused to mess with my SPL so I tried out the Generic UK ... now I can update my Xperia from Sony Ericsson Updater as if it were a standard generic.
Of course in your case you would use the Deutsch ROM.
Great! And how do you do that? I've only read about the method using HardSPL and renaming the image to Kovsimg.nbh and put it on a MicroSD. I guess that won't work with the normal SPL?!
Yep

Hehe, luckily you guessed wrong.
Put Kovsimg.nbh on your memory card, restart, hold VolDown+Pwr.

As long as it's the "Official" image (get it from Xperia ROM download thread) it works just fine, I did it just to try and it worked

T-Mobile UK HD2 - Warranty issues

Hi all,
I 've had my HD2 with T-Mobile UK for just over a month now... Love it, but as always the case with HTC phones, stock roms are noway near as good as cooked ones..
I have been flashing new roms with previous devices I owned (Wizard, S710, Diamond), but I am a bit hesitant with HD2. The reason is T-Mobile.. They told me that I'll invalidate my 2-year warranty if I do, so I was wondering is there a way to find the stock T-mobile rom and radio to go back if i need to send the phone out for repair?
Thanks and apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere.. I did search, only briefly I admit..
by far the easiest would be to dump (backup) what you have on it now [i think there is a tut in the blackstone forum]
then hspl and flash a cooked rom after that.
dumps from original roms are fairly easy to put back together with one of the kitchen packages

Hi sgiannis,
Try the following, look at Pagnell's post (#6)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=607584.
This is Version 1.43 (t-mobile) and is where i downloaded it from and it works fine.
First link in the first post of this sticky thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 is a shared folder for Official ROMs. I uploaded the T-Mob UK ROM into the 1.43 folder and it is the exact same ROM I keep on my storage card for warrenty purposes.
By the way, the best way to flash for restoring warrenty purposes is to extract the exe into a new folder, rename the RUU_Signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and then place it in the root of your SD card. Enter into bootloader (hold the volume down when turning the phone on and then when prompted press the power button. This will restore your SPL, radio and ROM to the correct versions for warrenty. so back up all your stuff on your computer so you can put it back on once youre done

[Q] How to use a Goldcard

Oke guys here's my queston.
First look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939763&page=3
My radio is probably bricked, so now i'm trying to use a goldcard:
I managed to get the CID of my SD card.
Reversed the CID of the 2 Gb is: 009b000a6daf00804732305553445303
With a little help of this forum i now have a goldcard and put an original LEOIMG on the goldcard.
Still no solution, the bootscreen flashes off/on 1 time and then returned into bootscreen. No attempt of flashing seen. What went wrong??
Thanks in advance!
first the obvious questions, (quite often its somethign dead simple) ,
you extracted ruu_signed.nbh and didnt just rename the whole .exe to .nbh?
How did you write the .img to the card? ? you
How did you get the CID?
let me have the two CIDS (dont reverse them or anything, just as you got them) and an email address and ill make you an image for each disk, that way you have three to try.

on a normal sd card, this usually indicates either wrong stock rom being used (sure the rom you are using is for your region AND carrier?((if locked)), or an sd card that isn't set up right (freshly format it, FAT32 )
It might point to the goldcard image being wrong, or incorrectly written to the card.
I extracted the original HTC HD2 dutch rom, took of the ruu_signed.nbh, copied it to the goldcard en renamed it to LEOIMG.nbh
I got the CID by using a working adroid phone together with the tutorial from "theunlocker.com" (sdk/adb-app en hex-app)
The 2 onreversed CID's are:
1gb
035344535530314780606ca6f10079a6
2gb
03534453553032478000af6d0a009b8e
emailaddress: [email protected]
thanks!
Hey Magazijn if your problem is not a hardware issue then you have the right guy working with you now. Samsamuel will have you up and running again I am sure of it. Just remember though if you are using USB to flash and not SD card then always put your HD2 into bootloader and wait for the USB tben flash this is a trusted method. And don't forget to click Samsamuel's thanks button when he gets you going. Peace.
heh, cheerleader fees in the post.
@OP sorry for the delay, theres a step by step to double check you are writing teh image correctly HERE
Thanks for the quick solution samsamuel, but still the same problem.
After Boot the screen builds up again in boot and that's it.
So i think it's an hardware radioproblem with can't be fixed.
Should a hardware repair help me out?
Last question i used original dutch LEOIMG (winmo 6.5), can i use another (android of winmo) rom?
If yes, which would you prefer.
Again thank for your help, i appreciate it.
hmm, not sure what to suggest. As i said b4, a brief 'loading' then back to bootloader usually indicates the wrong rom. Are you sure your phone is an unbranded dutch phone? did you download that rom with your serial number from the htc website? (it will only let you download correct roms if you use serial)
This shouldnt matter if the goldcard is working, but if you KNOW its the correct rom, it can be discounted as the cause.

[Q] How to sync when in white screen error?

Hi Guys,
I'm kinda stuck here, hope you'll be able to help:
Situation is as follows:
I have an HTC Leo, and after 2 months of usage - got the white screen:
1. Tried soft reset - no good
2. Tried hard reset - no good
3. Cannot sync to PC with ActiveSync - does not detect the device
4. Can go to boot mode, but only with voulme down+soft reset button
5. Cannot sync in boot mode as well - there appears to be a "USB" writing at the bottom, (white line on boot mode) though ActiveSync does not detect via usb?
6. Tried to install HSPL2 - starts to install, never finishes, proggress bar goes up and down forever (on PC) - I believe device needs to be synced before installing?
7. Device is enabled in the device manager, though cannot explore - thus no access to SD card
8. Here we go, I seem to do something wrong, PLEASE HELP, I payed for the device about 400E in my country, stock warranty is not an option
9. HEEEEEEEEEELP
10. Thanks!!!
Try flashing the stock ROM for your HD2 via SD card. If you have a T-Mobile HD2 then go to T-Mobile.com to download the ROM you will have to enter the IzmEI number from under your battery to download it. If you have a international HD2 go to HTC.com and enter your serial number that is under your battery to getca list of ROMs you can download and install on your HD2. If the ROM is a .exe you will have to right click it and renamecthe file .zip to view the contents. After that follow the instructions in the thread linked below to flash the ROM.

Hi, thanks for the info,
When I go to HTC homepage, i find "Rom Upgrades" - is that the same as the ROM itself?
Sorry if the q is dum ,I'm completely new in this
And also - does the card have to be empty (only ROM in) so that the phone boots it?
Thanks again

Yeah that is what you are looking for. The ROM upgrades is the most recent official ROMs out for the HD2. Just make sure you use your serial number to make sure you get a ROM that is for your HD2 or you will not be able to flash it unless you get HSPL on your HD2. Also make sure the HTC site you are on is for your part of the world, your country or the country the HD2 originated from.
[Q] Hi again, last q
When I Explore the contents of the rom I see numerous files, and reading the instructions you linked tells me to rename an image. The ROM is an exe, so I renamed it to zip , explored and currently I see only one .nbh file:
RUU_signed.nbh
Should I rename this one to LEOIMG.nbh and copy this file only to SD card? Or rename and leave there, take the whole exe and put it into the SD Card?
Would that be sufficient to run the ROM in bootload?
Thanks again brother, you're a lifesaver

Just take and copy the RUU_signed.nbh file make a copy ofcthe file and past it to your desktop and then rename it to LEOIMG.nbh then copy that file to the root of your SD card. All you have to have is the .nbh file but it has to be named LEOIMG.nbh.
You can also flash a radio, splash screen, and MAGLDR this way if need be. But you would still have to flash CWM via custom RUU via USB if you installed MAGLDR.

Sorry I had to get some sleep, anyway I suggest you first make a backup copy of your SD card and then reformat your SD card using the Panosonic Mick SD card formatting software, just Google it you will find it. Do a full wipe of hour cardcand format it using Fat 32. Then copy the LEOIMB.nbh to your card and try it again. Also try to use a card no bigger than a 8GB as bigger SD cards are prone to give people problems when flashing via SD card. Note I did not say they will notcflash a ROM, bit they sometimes give people trouble.
Also I forgot to tell you this morning that if your HD2 says USB in the white bar of bootloader and it also says HTC USB sync in the device manager in the control panel of your computer, then you have a Sync connection to your computer but you can not use this connection for anything bit to flash different software to your HD2.

Yeah maybe you got a bad download of the ROM. If that was the only official ROM you could down load. I would try to download it againcand delete the first copy you downloaded, or I would flash HSPL. to my HD2 and then try to flash the stock ROM are a custom ROM. Custom ROMs are better than stock ROMs anyway. Just remember though if you have a warranty and you need to send your HD2 in for warranty work or exchange you need to revert your HD2 back to complete stock. This means ROM, radio, and SPL.
