hey everyone
here's my 2nd post in XDA (best windows device site)
i manage to run Microsoft windows 3 on xperia ....with the help of Pocketdos
i have searched the forum but found the another way with Dosbox but its very tricky and this (with pocketdos) its easy....
there are 3 rar in attachment ..
1st- pocketdos full
2nd- windows
3rd-pocketdos mouse drivers
1st install pocketdos in memory card then place pocketdos mouse drivers in pocketdos folder (eg. D\program files\pocketdos\)
2nd copy the WIN folder to pocketdos folder (same as above)
run pocketdos and type the following cmd after it reaches command promt:
s: <enter>
cd win <enter>
win
and enjoy
Pics or video of it?
Eh?
Ok, so I got it installed, did as you say, executed "win" and the Windows 3.0 shows, then a black line over it showing thecmmand prompt again.
Is it not booting into win properly or do I need to do something else? I was about 7 years old last time I used Win 3 so I can't remember how the hell it works.

you must do additional steps - add Extended memery, expanded memory, 486 emulation etc.

I thought that was win98?
I can't run anything.
The dll cpu is in pocketdos folder, but I can't see frof option...
I want to try XENON2!
Nice and funny
Any chance of running windows 95 / 98? the 800x480 resolution of the screen would make it pretty neat i guess
nokia??? 95/98??
Xenon2 doesn't work...
http://takegame.com/shooter/htm/xenon2.htm
What about fallout 1 ? it works on dos/windows 95 and minimum cpu is 486 66mhz and needs 16/32 mb ram
(fallout 1 used to run on older ppc's with mips cpu's i saw some dead old forums dated of 2004 with info about how to install it)
More info at:
http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Fallout/Technical_manual
Fallout for PPC was recently released, though I haven't gotten it to work with the x1 yet

First this will be straight to the point this is for windows xp users only
download sdk from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html...then you will find this
windows android-sdk_r06-windows.zip
size 23293160 bytes
check sum 7c7fcec3c6b5c7c3df6ae654b27effb5
you will need a unzip program obviously , unzip the file "android-sdk-windows"
to the desktop or your c:\drive ,
so it should look like this in your address bar..
C:\android-sdk-windows
if you are using this way or if you use desktop its up to you, then after that click Start on your pc,
move your mouse up to My Computer and right click, you should see Properties click on it...
now you should see a tab that says "System Properties"....with 7 tabs click on "Advanced"...
then at the very bottom you should see a tab that says .."Environment Variables"...click on that
..now at the very bottom theres a window "System variables" ...scroll down till you see the line
"Path C:\Program Files\Common Files\Teleca Shared "
is what mines says yours might be different but it doesn't matter click on it and then click "Edit"...
"Edit System Variables" tab pops up if its highlighted great push delete if not delete it then put...
1) C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
...if thats where you stored it i know i added the tools folder to it do worry about it ...
or
...if you stored it on your desktop ,you need to go to that folder ,
then go to the tools folder, and then look in the address bar you should see something like
2) C:\Documents and Settings\****\Desktop\android-sdk-windows\tools
now you either have 1) or 2) now with out the "1) or 2) " lol
...copy and paste
those address in the "Edit System Variables" tab and click Ok
now you still need drivers.., people always say this will get you connected,
but it doesn't so here you go,
they are attach at the bottom just do what i did extract to that android-sdk-windows folder ,
and then when you connect and it ask for driver just point the wizard there
..i am on here daily so i am around to help
also to run a check to you have adb done correctly go Start click Run type in cmd,
and when command prompt opens , or just open command prompt
with your device connected type....
adb devices you should see some text saying
list of devices attached
000000000000 device
your connected

I'm totally new in this android thing, and dont have time to investigate some issues... I installed froyo on my HD2, done what you said in first post (I didnt have mentoined path in system variables, so I just added new one, path of "tools" folder...)... Now, my phone recognize that my device is android, but I can't acces internet on phone, using USB cable. To be clear, I whant to use pc (LAN) connection on HD2... I googled everywhere, but its probably not possible. Right?? If not possible, how can I install apps, without mobile currier internet also?? I dont have file explorer app, so I cant navigate throu my sd card. Or I dont know how?? So, give mi few tips how to start, and be aware of my current situation. No spare time, PC internet connection avaible, connected HD2 to pc via USB cable, but no expirience. Just one tip. Mybe how to put file explorer on device
Thanks a lot, even if you just read this post, its enough

I know... our umpc is a bit older now, but i'm trying to give a new chance for it, now with Windows 8 Developer Preview. I got a relative sucess... I'm running this os, with tablet pc input working, with snapvue with 3g and wi-fi acess. But i'm facing a big problem with the video driver. I tried reinstall many times, but i can't get it work ok. Anybody got sucess with the video driver?
Sorry for my bad english.... i'm brazilian...
How did you get window 8 to install. I try and it said the shift did not meet the hardware rquirement.
I copy the iso on to a tumbdrive and mount it on a virtual drive for the installation process.
Peter
I downloaded the iso from de MS site. I used the USB image creator which is used to install the windows 7 in notebook. Restarted the machine, press f10 and enter in the setup... my htc is basic 40 gb hd and stock 1gb of ram...
camargomaia: i think it's possible, Windows 7 works fine and Windows 8 are (not for first look) still similar. Tomorrow i will try it, now i got two pieces of htc shift. Did you success with install all of default Vista drivers? Touchscreen is Working? thanks

Every is working, and the speed is very good. The only trouble is the video driver. In the process of setup our shift try hi-resolutions, that it not support, and this causes a instant reboot, similar that we had when trying to install the windows 7, with the aero enabled.
I thing that problem may be here, the windows 8 doesn´nt have the classic theme (windows 2000 theme)...
Let´s try to make this work, our old pc can beat the ipads, in some specs...
My Shift works fine now! I downloaded the drivers from the intel site and now everything is working! Our PC can run Windows 8!
Can you post a link for the driver you used?
What other drivers do I need to download before installing.
Is snapvue working?
Thanks

Good friday for everybody! Greeting from Brazil!
I posted a guide I wrote up in the Shift Development forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17602535
The guide includes links to all the drivers I have used and the process I followed to get Windows 8 running on the Shift from a totally clean install.
As with camargomaia's parallel experiences, once all the drivers are installed the Shift very usable in Windows 8. Even in it's stock RAM limited state.

REQUIREMENTS
On your streak
1.Download Any one pack attached below
qemu+qemu(sdl)[FAST but unstable]
or Bochs+Bochs(sdl)[slow but works]
On windows
qemu for windows[google it]
bochs 2.5.1[google it]
done
Creating the bootable image!
1. Open up Bochs for PC and run bximage.exe -> you can find bximage here C:/Program Files/bochs/ | depends on where you have installed it.
2. Create a Image with following: hd, flat, 1500, c.img
hd: It is the format of your boot disk. | fd will create a bootable floppy disk image. For some odd reasons you can use with win 3.11 or something like that.
flat: It means that it has a fixed size.
1500: It is the size of your Image. | you need around 1,5 gb disk space, because the installation of winxp, even you edit it with nlite, wont let you use lower disks -.- , i am trying to solve that problem.
c.img: It is the name of your Image. | choose the name like you want to, but dont forget to edit the bochsrc.txt, else it wont start.
notice: Maybe you have to run bximage.exe as Admin.
--------------------------------------------------------
Install Windows XP in the boot image
1. Open up Qemu
2. Set up a new Virtual Machine
3. As disk use the c.img
4. Configure the cdrom
5. Give the machine around 512 MB - 1 GB RAM if possible
6. start the Virtual machine and run the installation of Windows XP
Running it in Android
Extract SDL folder to \sdcard
Now folder looks like
/sdcard/SDL
copy Over c.img to sdl folder
run bochs or libsdl from app drawer
and it boots
in this way you can install anything you want
takes 10 to 15 minutes to boot
I booted win98 with these
go for screenshot below
THIS IS NOT MY WORK I JUST SHARED IT WITH YOU
Is this stable?
Pretty cool...
Now that is pretty wild ..xp on streak.. I wish there was a video of the whole installation process since it is all unfamiliar to me but still think I'll Try it for fun.
WOW
I noticed it's running win98 in safe mode so not much is working with it.
BUT
If bluetooth keyboard and mouse worked with this, it would just be the sickest thing ever!
If 3g data networking worked also, I would just explode!
Downloading and going to give it a crack on spare streak........
How fast/slow do they run?
haha would be awesome to be able to make calls from xp
It's merely running various guest OS's though a vm. Even if you managed to set it up to route calls there would likely be an unacceptable amount of lantancy.
For help and support, please refer to the original thread here ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459153

I can not give you any working download links but have you tried Googling the name of the files or the developers name that posted them? Also you do know that when running Windows 95 and 98 you will not be able to use your HD2 as an phone right?
If you got Windows 7 Pro or better the easiest way to run old games would be downloading XP Mode (I can't post outside links yet, sorry). Or than that there are different free Emulators for PC and your HD2. You only should install Win95 or 98 on the HD2 if you need headaches.
i succeeded running win 95 on hd2, but i don know how to insert the game.
game name - supaplex ( it is an old ms dos game) that i would like to play on hd2.

bro, i am not that big expert, but i am using android 2.3 on dual boot with haret and it is great.
Let me preface that ever since I heard of an Intel based phone, the idea of running Windows at near native speeds has always intrigued me.
It's not perfect, but I think we're very close to that goal
Here's a video of my ZE551 running Windows 7:
Edit:
Here's @knightmare running Windoze 10 on his ZF2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62008697&postcount=144
Edit:
Here's a video of my ZE551 installing Windoze 8: ( pretty boring for most people since it's just the install )
Edit:
Here's a video of my ZE551 playing ( I use that term loosely here ) a D3D9 game: Runes of Magic. Even though the Windows 8 QXL driver says it's hardware enabled in DxDiag, it's painfully slow.. taking nearly 15 minutes to start up/log in.
Edit:
Here's a video of Passmark 8 on Windows 8. Some people asked for benchmarks:
Here are the tools you will need to get this running yourself ( ZE551 ):
1. KVM enabled kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...fhd-kernel-ze551-kvm-bridge-compiled-t3145055
2. Linux chroot - the one I use is called Linux Deploy ( in the Play Store )
3. Spice client - the one I use is called aSPICE ( in the Play Store )
4. Root - kinda duh
5. Unlocked Bootloader - without an unlocked bootloader, you can't install a new kernel
6. Terminal Emulator - the one I use is called Terminal Emulator ( in the Play Store )
7. SSH client - the one I use is called VX ConnectBot ( in the Play Store )
8. Busybox - most every root-based app uses this ( in the Play Store )
9. OS iso - any cdrom image of the OS you want to run, ie windows 7?
Optional:
1. (optional) a decent sized MicroSD card, I use a 128 gb one that's partitioned 50 gigs or so as ext4 for Linux & 70'ish gigs for vFAT
2. (optional) an SD Card partitioner - the one I use is called Aparted ( in the Play Store )
After unlocking your bootloader and getting root running, this is the process you will follow:
1. Flash the 2.19 kernel img using fastboot flash boot boot_2.19_kvm_bridge.img and reboot. Pray you boot up.
2. Start Terminal Emulator
2a. at the $ prompt, type: su
2b. Grant Permission to Terminal Emulator for Root access ( 1 time thing )
2c. check to see if kvm.ko and kvm-intel.ko are loaded by typing: lsmod
2d. If they aren't loaded, load them using the commands: insmod /lib/modules/kvm.ko and insmod /lib/modules/kvm-intel.ko
2e. exit out of Terminal Emulator by tying the command: exit and then exit again
3. Partition your microSD card using Aparted * OPTIONAL *
4. Use Linux Deploy to install your favorite Linux distro. Unless you are hoping to compile the Android AOSP kernel ( what the FHD phone kernel is ), you can use just about any of them. ONLY use SSH, you won't need framebuffer or X access. This could take upwards of half an hour.
5. After Linux Deploy has installed your linux distro, click Start to start up the chroot.
6. Use an SSH client to connect to your linux distro. ( I prefer to ssh in via my laptop, but also use VX ConnectBot when I'm out and about )
7. Use the package manager to install qemu-kvm for your distro. Most Debian & Ubuntu distros use apt-get, Arch uses pacman, Fedora uses rpm, etc...
7a. (optional) I find it easier to grant superuser privileges to my qemu-kvm executable, so I chmod a+s /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 ; if you are paranoid about security, read through the documentation to do this correctly
8. I recommend creating a shell script to start up qemu-kvm because it can be a pain in the butt to remember all of the switches you like. ie...
qemu-system-x86_64 -full-screen -m 1G -enable-kvm -cpu host \
-drive file=/mnt/0/machine1.img,format=raw -boot menu=on \
--usbdevice tablet -smp 4 -vga qxl -monitor stdio -balloon virtio \
-soundhw hda -net nic,model=virtio \
-net user,smb=/mnt/MicroSD \
-spice port=5900,addr=127.0.0.1,disable-ticketing [email protected]
I have this line ( it's broken up by \'s <-- MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WHITE SPACE AFTER THE \ ) in my bash script called start_win7.sh
Here's a quick explanation of the line:
8a. qemu-system-x86_64 - This is the name of the qemu-kvm executable on my Arch x86_64 distro
8b. -full-screen - Full screen
8c. -m 1G - 1 gig of ram for our virtual machine
8d. -enable-kvm - enable KVM, the whole point of this endeavor
8e. -cpu host - use the same cpu information as our ZF2
8f. -drive file=/mnt/0/machine1.img,format=raw - the location of my hard drive, this is a 10 gig file
8g. -boot menu=on - boot menu enabled ( hit F12 etc.. )
8h. -usbdevice tablet - Qemu SUCKS at tracking the mouse, this forces qemu to track where we touch the screen
8i. -smp 4 - we're using 4 threads ( cores )
8j. -vga qxl - we're using the qxl vga adapter
8l. -monitor stdio - allow us to use the console to make immediate changes to the VM
8m. -balloon virtio - use the virtio balloon feature in the KVM kernel
8n. -soundhw hda - use the Intel HD Audio driver for sound
8o. -net nic, model=virtio - create a network card using the virtual IO feature in the KVM kernel
8p. -net user,smb=/mnt/MicroSD - create a shared folder, in this case the vFAT portion of the microSD card
8q. -spice port=5900,addr=127.0.0.1,disable-ticketing - Start up the SPICE engine for passing video & audio
8r. [email protected] - pass any further arguments to our qemu-kvm executable
so my file: start_win7.sh looks like this:
#!/bin/bash
qemu-system-x86_64 -full-screen -m 1G -enable-kvm -cpu host \
-drive file=/mnt/0/machine1.img,format=raw -boot menu=on \
--usbdevice tablet -smp 4 -vga qxl -monitor stdio -balloon virtio \
-soundhw hda -net nic,model=virtio \
-net user,smb=/mnt/MicroSD \
-spice port=5900,addr=127.0.0.1,disable-ticketing [email protected]
8s. chmod +x start_win7.sh to make it executable
9. Start up the qemu-kvm virtual machine referencing the location of your windows 7 install cd. ie...
./start_win7.sh -cdrom /mnt/MicroSD/Vcd/en_windows7.iso
9a. Qemu will start up and then show you this:
QEMU 2.3.0 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu)
9b. you can then issue QEMU commands from the (qemu) prompt
10. Start up aSPICE
11. Click the OFF button to the left of Show Advanced Settings
12. Make sure Enable Sound is checked, if it isn't, do so.
13. The default connection is 127.0.0.1:5900, so click Connect
At this point, you should see your Windows install starting.
After this you will need the virtio drivers for your Windows box. I'll try to get those urls, but you should be able to Google them. Redhat has VirtIO & Spice guest driver cd's for Windows.
Redhat Windows Virtio Drivers CD: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
SPICE Guest Drivers: http://www.spice-space.org/download.html ( download the QXL Driver and Spice Agent, the executable does not work )
Windows 8 QXL Drivers from Red Hat People: http://people.redhat.com/~vrozenfe/qxlwddm/
How to connect to Windows via RDP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62096457&postcount=165
Edit:
Verified that Windows 8.1 pro can be upgraded to Windows 10. Redhat's qxl windows 8 driver works with Windows 10.
Great job bro. This is iam waiting for using zenfone 2.Is there any sound for windows 7?
if like can i change into windows 8 or 10??.
Tq
Yes, there is sound using aspice if you use the Intel hd audio driver. Unfortunately, the pc link video grabber doesn't record sound. ( why there isn't audio in my video )
Since this virtual machine is simply a pc, you should be able to install Windows 8 or 10.
Please let us know how that turns out!

this is amazing...this means there is a chance in the future, to run windows 10 or windows phone 10 (whenever that comes out) ? what about connecting mouse/keyboards via bluetooth? i cant wait for this to grow more! amazing work...!!!
Amazing! Care to try with Windows 10 to see how it behaves?
Seems already fast in your video, you already have ideas to make closer to native speed or it's already the best?
You've outdone yourself. A full modern Windows desktop OS in our pockets.
@ycavan
The very important question: What about video driver? Is it just dummy SVGA or full featured 3D graphics card?
Without Direct3D, windows for me will be nearly useless.
At the moment there is no direct 3d. The problem there is that my chroot doesn't seem to have proper access to all the hardware.
I've heard that the vmware driver is supposed to support d3d9 natively via gallium.
So... The next step would be to look at getting qemu-kvm compile for Android.
If any awesome Android developers out there are willing to do that, we might have a chance at full speed Windows with direct 3d.
I will say this... Epsxe was able to start up ps1 games with Pete's opengl driver via spice.

I've been messing around with the Android NDK lately, and if I have time today, I can try cross-compiling qemu-kvm.
This type of stuff is why I love supporting the XDA Community. Very cool. I'll give it a shot today - if USB OTG works, I'll have to see if I can get my Tactrix OpenPort cable to work with it and MazdaEdit.
This is a wonderful job bro... Can we follow the same procedure on other phones (Oneplus One in my case) with a kernel that supports KVM?

Since the Oneplus One is using an ARM based chip , not a x86 chip so I don't think it's possible to run Windows

Do it. Peer pressure!
awesome work Bro..
btw will it increases battery life of zenfone 2? or making it worse?
as we all know that android 5.0 is very buggy, the memory leak problem cause battery draining, so I wonder about your trick by installing windows 7 on asus zenfone 2 will it fix the battery draining problem?
Awesome Work !! Wish you all the very best for future developments

You could always stream it from your PC as I'm not certain it would run well even on minimum settings.
As per the fact that the windows 7 runs on VM inside the Android, it should ideally worsen the battery life. Windows 7 doesn't replace the android os. If someone is worried about battery should not try this. Nevertheless, it truly would be a great thing to witness.
