Hi,
I flashed my phone to the 1.61 from 1.43, and suffer huge slowdowns at times.
It seems to be when the device is woken up & unlocked, the lock screen remains, and Sense / apps perform extremely slowly. I'm forced to reset to fix the problem.
Just out of curiosity (before I 'downgrade' to 1.48), anybody else had the same problems?
Many thanks,
Daniel.
ever tried clearing the caches out (opera etc)
161 is fine for me..
+ 1 for me too. No problem with slowdown. I clean regurarly using SK Tools.
Cheers guys, I'll try SK Tools out.

did you hard-reset after flash?
Should you always do a hard reset after a flash? Didn't know it was needed. I had assumed a flash was effectively the same as a hard-reset!
The flash only rewrites the ROM! It does NOT erase the "c:"
It is like to install a new os without formating the partition first! All files left by the previous build are still there and this may cause issues!

If you flash with the stock RUU, it does a hard reset for you. If you use the "customRUU" it doesn't do a hard reset.

Oh! so whenever we flash a new *official* ROM, we do not need to do a hard reset?

whenever you flash using the exe direct from htc you don't need to hard reset.
when you flash using sd card or using the custom ruu then you ned to manually hard reset
But regarding the slow down, yes I have the problem and I think its related to all the syncing with email/facebook/weather/etc... If you are on a G reception then it will take longer to download these updates, and if you have power saving option enabled then it will do this after the device "awakes" as it won't do it as well in Standby as it is power saving.
I've used BSB Tweaks and disabled the option which seemed to work for me

Cheers for your reply - so you disabled the power saving option? What effect does this have on battery life?
Dan.
I want to try damage's 2.1 rom. My hero is rooted and Ive done a nandroid dump in the past. can someone point me in direction of a rom flash how-to?
Instructions:
put ROM on the root of your SD card
reboot into recovery console
MAKE A BACKUP
wipe/factory reset in the recovery console
Flash zip from SD card
reboot
Uh, I really wouldn't be flashing if you don't know how to flash a rom. (That sounds offensive but I didn't mean it.) If you don't know how to flash a rom, uh, how are you going to know what rom's your able to flash? (tip: DO NOT FLASH A GSM ROM TO A CDMA HERO!)

Hah it's a good thing we've gotten MMS working in 2.1 now My GF was starting to wonder why I wasn't responding to her MMS' and I was like "I never got them..." haha.
ok so 2 things really.
i can only get 1 nandroid back to work. the nandroid is of stock root so this isnt a huge problem. but i want to flash roms lol. i was thinking maybe it was a2sd? flashing any rom causes a boot loop. its weird. i RUU'd once but now the program doesnt see my phone and it wont boot into Hboot. Comp see phone and Fresh Kitchen see the phone oh and cmd promp too so idk about that either.
i also dont know where the recovery image is stored on the phone it self.
so if any one can help with these things ty.
format c:, that should take care of your boot loop problem.
Don't do what the guy said... you'll screw your Windows install. First, just don't use a2sd until you can get everything sorted out.

Were you on an aosp or sense rom? (I'm guessing sense)
Are you rooted? Did you wipe the entire rom from your phone?
Have you tried ruu'ing or flashing a rom?

Well when it goes into the master screen.... where you wipe data, it has a name, teamwin..... anyway, I have not flashed it, but was trying to. Thing is, after I wiped, I could not figure out how to get the new rom installed. I wiped everything I have an SD card but having problems with loading anything off the sd card to install ROM, plus I am not even sure the ROM I have works being I downloaded it off the net.

What rom are you trying to flash?
If everything is already wiped, all you need to do is install a rom for the evo shift (go have a look in the dev section) and everything should be swell again?
Are you having problems mounting your sd card onto your computer?

As for ROMs, it's all up to you.
Right now I'm using Cyanogenmod 7.2, but people have all sorts of different tastes.
Flash until you find something you like

Actually, there is no guide there as to the flashing part, unzipped file to SD card.... but not sure what to do now. Placed it in the phone.... and went to I guess it would be called root menu where you install and what-not.... But like I said, no real guide to the flash itself. The origanal idea was to get it on boost mobile network, but ##3282# was not working which led me to this point. Maybe you know a better guide for the flash??

to flash the rom you don't unzip it.
Leave it as a zip and install it from your recovery by selecting it in your recovery

It's a long alpha-numeric number that is associated with the file. Next time you download a rom look for it on the download page. When you down load a file the md5sum should match the original indicating a good download. There are apps that check the md5 and most file managers will show it in properties

If you've done the factory reset and that doesn't get you out I'm guessing the rom you flashed was a bad download. You made a nandroid backup before you flashed the rom, right. Boot back into recovery and restore it. Then re download the rom and try it again

Live and learn, I was afraid of that. You're probably going to have to use Odin then which will return you back to stock. And then start everything over again. Have you let the boot loop go for like 5 minutes. Sometimes it can take that long on first boot, but the vibration isn't normal.

Try flashing it again then. Do all the wipes first then flash it and then flash gapps. Did you flash the gapps package? I'm not sure what rom you're trying to flash but it probably requires gapps too.

gapps isn't on my phone so i cant flash it. i've flash it about ten times now and it won't work. it must be a bad download even though i flashed it before. after i flash the rom, it shows the boot animation of the rom i had been using before. werid huh? the only option i have now is to buy a micro sd card and put the rom on that and flash it that way. i really don't want to use odin.

What do you mean giving up? I'm going to wait until my microSD card comes and then I will transfer the zip file that way. I don't have time to fiddle with odin. Besides I don't even have a pc, i have bootcamp, which takes a year to boot.
