RDS Features of Xperia X1 - XPERIA X1 General

As we all know, the Xperia X1 delivers RDS with his Radio Software. The Station name is shown on the screen, and when the Radio Station supports it, it scrolls with the current song name, the weather and all other things.
However, the X1 Radio Software also shows the first word of the Radio Text transmitted from the station. Thats the word what directly stands next to the Station name.
Unfortunatelly, the Radio Text *isn't* scrolling through the screen. However, the Radio Text delivers some extra information, such as the Current Song or other things, so it is very interessting.
I have searched on the Internet for alternative Radio software, that shows the Radio Text in his full lenght, but I have found nothing.
Does anyone of you know if there is an alternative Radio Application, that shows the Radio Text in his full lenght, and eventually even more information transmitted in the RDS Transportstream (Such as RDS-PI, RDS-TA, RDS-AF.....), or does some person on this Forum or elswere develop such an application for the X1?
Many thanks from Holland!

Hehe
People still use radio?
I don't know how many radios I have, I just don't use, theres something about having to listen to whatever song I'm given when I'm given it that just doesn't appeal to me.
Anyway, on topic, think you'll be hard pushed to find a radio software as feature rich as this one, in terms of the information provided.
From the quick test I did, it seemed like a nice program, I'd say your best hope would be to try modify the position of the label in question within the app (is it an xml panel or similar?)
Otherwise I think you may have trouble finding anything else.

what i hate is the programs dosnt use the whole screen to scroll the info so theres only like 10 characters displayed while its scrolling and it doesn't even scroll it flashes in and out.

Thanks for the answers so far!
Is it possible that I edit the Xperia Radiopanel .dll with some programm to show the data I want (A fully shown Radiotext is my main goal, others features are not important right now) ?
I also have found this:

Is there something like this for the X1 as well?

Sort by first name? Battery level indicator? Call Forward?

Hi,
Got a brand new QTek 2020/Pocket PC. Syncs to my mac with PocketMac. Seems overall great but there are (?) also some incredible annoying things regarding the most basic features:
1. Can't decide number of rings/time before forwarding calls to voicemail.
Way too quick now. (However one feature lets you decide how many signals before automatic pick-up/microphone on)
2. Can't sort contacts by FIRST name (Only LAST or COMPANY).
3. No visible battery level in basic view. You need to tap your way into SETTINGS.
(It warns however when battery gets very low - Too late in most cases)
It consumes alot of battery so this feature is very crucial to me.
What's the deal not making this visible like on all other ever existing mobile phones in the whole wide world???
If anyone have some ideas and tips regarding this I would be very thankful.
Best/ Henkon
Hi
I thought there was a way to determine how many rings before voicemail, but it would seem there isn't, just about auto answer as you say.
Regarding contacts, if you look in Outlook I bet all your contacts are saved as Last, First. If you change these to First Last then they will store in first name order - plus it looks an awful lot tidier!
There is a crude batt level indicator if you tap the time in the top right corner, but also there are numerous programs that can amongst other things show a battery level indicator on your Today screen. I use PocketPlus but there are LOTS of others, just look in pocketgear, handandgo or one of the freeware options.
The XDA (specifically II) is a great piece of kit, but unfortunately MS / o2 do not provide as many phone functions as perhaps they should. The good thing about these phones is that you can get your own software (or even write it!) to fill these gaps.
I'd still rather have my II than any of the other phones I've had...and I've had quite a few.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Anthony

Engineering mode

I have been playing with my tmobile MDA (wizard) and in HKLM/software/HTC/engineermode there are some keys I find interesting. On mine LaunchEngineerModeAppDialStr is set to *#*#364#*#* (364 maps to 'eng' which is probably why it was chosen).
Has anyone played with this at all? I tried but I get 0 mobile srevice her eand got a message back saying 'please try you call later' (sms style) which I am certain came from the phonei tself. Normally I get just 'failed' rather than 'please try your call later'.
At any rate, it might be something fun to look at I know that some people were looking to get the tower IDs and other info, and usually engineering mode includes that.
update
I have an update to this. I have 2 SIMs both tmobile US. The old one is at least a year old, maybe more. It is totally inactive. The new one came with the phone. When I use the old one I get 'please try your cal llater' with the new one it goes into engineering mode and displays cellid and other bits of info. of course its not highly useful for me right now becuase I have no cell signal, but ...
The title bar reads 'gsm test mode' and there are 3 tabs. GSM, AMR and GPRS. At least now the key to get the dial string is known, if it wasnt before (I didnt see anything) and the fact that you can get tower IDs and other stuff (something someone wanted elsewhere).
the gsm test mode app appears to be a totoally different app as well (according to start->system->memory->running programs. I do not have good tools yet to see exactly where this app is and how to access it. But I am sure that if that program were located a debugger could provide useful info on extracting the syscalls or whatever is done to get access to the cellid and other bits of info.
Note cellids can be used to track location, they are fixed and reported, at least in the US., While you may not know exactly where someone is, by knowing which tower they are on you can guess. RSSI can be used in conjunction with this as the far field (where most radio communications occur) falls off at the inverse square, you can guess at the distance (but not direction). Multipath and other issues can affect this reading, so its not highly accurate but ...
Now does anyone know of a good tool like ps in unix that shows me not only the full program name but also any arguments given for WM5?
GSM Test Mode..
An easier way is to look in your \windows dorectory and look for the "GXM Test Mode.exe" ....

Any software requests out?

Hi, I'm a developer wanting to write an app/today plugin. Do you have any request?
Yea I've wanted this for long time and hope you make it for me. Program that like the watch beep or vibrate 30 min or hour and not turn the screen on?? so I can tell time without pulling the phone out.
Thanks for the opportunity, I was thinking about asked here.
Today plug in for Last call and Running Program as in O2 Plus. Both are nice features of O2 Plus but sadly hacked version has lot of issues to run on wizard and it's big prog to install only for those plugins. Thanks.

I'd love an app that would allow you to get notifications of email that goes into folders other than inbox. Currently, there's no way to do that, and there are no rules you can set like in desktop Outlook to inform you when a message goes into one of those folders.
Hi Kartam, I use claunch, you can see it in my avatar there, I would love to be able to finger scroll the launch icons to the left or the right to quickly get to all my apps, configurable icon size of course. Outside of the today screen a finger friendly file browser is definitely waiting for development, something that has the look and feel of pocketCM but shows your files instead of your contacts, complete with favourites and filters for stuff like music videos or documents. It should also allow users to set a default action on selecting any given item.
funger friendly alarm clock?
Hi,
how about an alarm clock with numbers like a telephone pad, so you can easily type in the wake up time (regular cell phones allow this). I tried all sorts of commercial products, they are not good (snowtime, spb time, etc...)
Or how about a modern version od "pPod"? :-D
Good luck with all your programs!!

Mine's rather Simple!!!!
...or at least I think it it should be.
All I want is an app (preferably that sits on the today screen) that can toggle the network selection between automatic, roam only, and home only.
Sometimes I need to roam to hold a proper signal, and in those places I like switching my phone to "roam only". Then, when going home, I switch it back to automatic network selection. Problem is that this is buried in many menus and takes several clicks to switch. Its a pain to do this 2x a day.
what do you think?
I actually think you may be able to do that with MortScript, I could've sworn I saw a script that did something similar on HoFo or another forum with one that did almost exactly what you described, but it might've been the WiFi radio in conjunction with a GPS puck...or something
I have multiple application using GPRS. My problem is that all those application are not using tha same APN (not sure of the name, I mean different GPRS connections). Each time I need to use one application or another I need to go to the parameters, change my setting click multiple times on OK.
It would be great (at least for me) to have an application on the today screen which permit to select the correct APN.

What a great age we live in when a completely touch screen digital music player is not considered as modern!
Haha, you got a point there, touché :-D
What i meant was a more modern pPod skin (maybe more skins to choose from...?), a playlist manager of some sort (so you dont have to browse through all kins of folders until you find your mp3s), slightly bigger buttons, ....
I love the design and the simplicity of the pPod though, just a little tweaking would be cool. And yes, i did also try mortplayer and HTC audiomanager, both great programs, but both programs are too big for just playing music (in my opinion)
Actually a great program would just be a hack to have HTC Audio Manager use the ID3 Number tags to sort music instead of Alphabetical
Re the new ppod program - that'd be great - I've been refreshing the iphone media player thread like nothing on earth - cant wait to see what that turns out like... the HTC hack would be good tho.
ps you might want to check out Simple Tunes V1.61
Hi!
You can make a little program for me??
Here you can find a little CAB http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49265&d=1188921933
They copy to the Windows folder a little executable, copy into StartUp folder a shortcut to it, and add few registry-entries....
Well, this program don't have any interface, simple start when device start...
The target is "improove" the quality of A2DP transmission (audio over bluetooth)
BUT, when this service running, the battery quickll drain!!
You can make a simple app (like a GUI) to enable/disable it??
To enable = write few registry-entries and copy a shortcut to the StartUp folder, then softreset the device
To disable = remove the same registry-entries and remove the shortcut from the StartUp folder, then softreset the device
Can you create an application that will let my Hermes roam the floor vacuuming!?
a2dp stereo auto enable
can you write (or is there out there) an app which enables the a2dp pairing with a bt headset so the stereo is enabled by default when the headset re-establishes a connection.
currently (for me) if i turn loose the pairing, ie if I charge the headset, then turn the headset back on for a2dp. I have to run the bt settings in control panel and click 'set as wireless stereo' on the headset.
note the phone headset is enabled straight away when it is powered up.
thanks
left/right scrolling today screen plugin
this would be a sweet today plugin....

Hey guys,
I want to know what cool program, functionality, or software you would like to see created. I am a .net programmer (among others) and would like some ideas of projects you would like to see. I would like to stay away from a graphic intense program and involved games, so think functionality, usefulness, fun, etc. If I get some good ideas, I will then add a poll, vote on the best one, then build it. I will release it under my donationware license which means it will be free. Right now I am finishing up my Golf Gps program (and will continue to support), but will start this project once we get it deceided. So Shoot me your ideas!

Hi,
Maybe simple for .NET, but for me impossible to do (without performance/battery penaulty) with basic4ppc or mortscript. And thats all I can handle.
What I would like to have is a program that enables me to execute programs when specific events occur. I'd like to know when AC power gets connected/disconnected, when there is a change in screen orientation, and when a headset gets connected/disconnected and so on. Maybe even when an internet connection through WIFI is available/unavailable.
Also I'd like to know is a specific BT device is connectable/conneted. I'd like to know if a specific WIFI network is connectable/connected. I'd like to know if I'm at a specific location. All event driven, without a performance consuming programing loop or battery drain.
Yeah, all or even some of those options would make my digital mobile life so much easier
Good luck huntig for input, if you ever get bored contact me and make me happy
Cheers,

Doable, handy, not a massive undertaking, I like it! Not sure I would go the .net route on something like this, as really a GUI is not required (except for settings maybe) and the overhead is large with .net. Certainly will add it to the list. Keep them coming!!

This would be pretty difficult unless all of developers used the same programming langauge/technique. The only real feasable way I see this working would be developers using a common set of graphics. That would be more of a graphic undertaking instead of programming. I do like the idea, but pretty hard to impliment.
Thanks

I would love to see something like Launchy for launching apps and files etc. as well as quick search of various types online. I'm guessing the on the fly search would require too much processing power, but if it's doable it would be awesome.
http://www.launchy.net/
I'm interested in new ideas too. I also use B4PPC.
Here's a few ideas:
-A tamagotchi, really. I was about to try this out tonight but Paint hates me.
-An app launcher like PetitLaunch on PalmOS. It's something that can pop from any app (hardware button) and when you type in extra letters it filters which apps are shown. I got this started and I can give you the files if you want.
-Pursue the development for Tippy. The source is on Nicbou.com/downloads if you want it.
-A time clock. A friend of mine notes down how long he works to make sure he doesn't get screwed and it takes him several minutes every week. He doesn't have a Pocket PC but maybe someone would be interested in something that tracks the hours you work and calculate the salary. I almost did this too.
And don't forget to share the source! If you need any help with B4PPC I'm here

Sounds simular to the app launcher listed in the next post, seems like there is a theme going on here, you all need some sort of good app launcher.

I'd like the Launchy features for search-on-the-fly off on board apps and file launching, but ever more for different site searches (google, maps, wikipedia, live, youtube, Amazon, etc).

I had to look up tamagotchi, either I am too old, or just out of the loop to know that 10 million of these things were sold! Wow! That could be fun, but would take a pretty fancy AI type system to really be fun.
A form of Tippy is already out there, 1-calc has some of the features built in already.
A time clock could be cool, maybe a stop watch type thing perhaps?
Never used B4PPC, I mainly use C# and Visual Studio. It looks like the old Visual Basic for desktops. And last but not least, depending on the project, I more than likely will release the source.
Thanks!!! Keep'em comin!

File Explorer Needs Help
Has anyone wanted to see a preview image in explorer's folder??
I'm not talking about fexplorerext2. although it is a fantastic enhancement; it takes a long time to load the preview immages.
I have a better idea (well, actualy MS thought of it first)
THUMBS.DB
for every folder that has an image file, this dll is created to replace cache of images. this way ou do not have to load it everytime and scale them down for thumbnail view. it is already there specificaly for each folder.
This alows the explorer to show a preview of the first image in the folder (or last created/accessed)
This is whatt I think WinMo is lacking - windows. lol.
I do not care much for the tabbed browsing. it hurts my head. too much scroling and not enough info. Icons work better I think, and waste less space on an already small screen.
well, that's been on my wishlist for a very long time. a dll that ataches to the already existing explorer making it work better.
Thanks for workin g on something new
program that makes led lights flash when phone rings would be nice
Interesting...I will have to think about how to tackle that. It would basically take a new file explorer (like total commander). This might be a bit larger than I want to tackle, but will research it a bit before ruling it out.

Fexplorer2 is basically a dll that works with the original file explorer context menu. there is a small exe that overwrites the original explorer to make it think that the explorer"s context menu has already been opened.
in a way it maybe possible to write a new dll and two exe
EXE 1 to replace the file explorer
EXE 2 to make thumbs db
DLL (conte4xt menu that alows to view as thumbnails/list etc ; as well as launching the second exe to make a thumbsdb)

I have been looking for a program that would stop the music (S2P, Audio Manager, or WMP etc...) if during playback of the music the headset is removed. Or for instance, when the device is on vibrate and you connect headset, it automatically changes profile to normal or something.
Another one is when I dock my device (or connect AC basically), I'd like clock program (or home screen, or photo slideshow, etc...) to come up automatically.
A feature that I miss from my older phones is the ability to set them to beep every minute during a phone call.
Now these are very general and not specific features. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!
Thank you,

The launcher on the 103 looks a lot like manilla, I know it is diff, but to me it seems mainly by presentation, not functionality. I do however like the notification top bar like that on android. Not sure how difficult taking over the top bar would be. I will do some digging.

Basic questions from a basic brain

Evening all,
I've had HTC phones for the past few years and have never required 10% of their capabilities. Having split with my "technical support guru", and having received the HD2, I thought it was about time I start taking advantage of my new device.
I'm pretty much out of my depth these days, and there are far too many post for me to search through to get my answers, as I'm not even sure of the specific questions.
Firstly, is it possible for me to watch some videos I bought from iTunes on the HD2? I copied the files over, but it can't read them, they're in MV4 file type. Some cleverclogs rolled their eyes when I asked, saying something about codecs, but this was French to me. I'm assuming I have to change the file type, but do I do this from my computer or on my HD2?
My SMS have the same problem that most have so I don't need to as questions, I've installed the SMS quick fix so fingers crossed (I'm patient).
The phone get's crackly every now and then, I'm assuming this will be fixed in the new rom update (again, French).
I would ask why the 3G icon up at the top, turns to E, G and H, but I don't think that's a problem so will leave it for the minute.
No pink issues on the camera.
Is there a short cut to Task Manager on this device? (can there be?)
If someone could take a few moments to explain how I can watch video's on the device, with all the gorey details, I'd be most grateful.
HI,
MV4 (sure you didn't mean m4v ?) is a filetype, and no, you shouldn't need to change them manually.
Look around for an alternative player that plays that filetype and you should be good to go. (Can't be more specific, sorry, I'm ok with the default player so haven't needed to instal a new one yet - There are plenty of threads that talk about players)
E.G.H = Edge, 3G, HSDPA, (I think...) and is an indicator of what type/speed of connection you have to your provider, and no, so long as it's working I shouldn't worry about it.
Taskmanager link, press an empty slot in your quicklinks on the home screen, choose programs - scroll down to task manager and click, , sorted. Link to taskmanager on your homescreen.
Happy playing
Cheers Sam.
So if I'm needing a different media player, are there any that can be recommended?
You're right, M4V file type... attention to detail
Harris,
I have just sent you a PM. For media player look for Coreplayer on here.
