Ebook Format for G1? - G1 General

Which one of these formats would be easier viewed/converted to read on my G1 if I was to buy this book.

If you guys can help me out by providing the program that could convert any of these formats to view on my G1, keep in mind when you click on the adobe version its says "Digital Edition" and said it would not work with regular Adobe reader, it needs the digital edition.

Microsoft Reader files are the easiest of the ones you mentioned to convert....if they don't have DRM, which most online books would have. There is a command-line program called "clit" (convert-lit: I didn't make it up) that works in Linux and, I think, Windows. Again, if the file has DRM, it probably won't work, but I'm sure there are ways around that.
Sony's eReader (lrf) format still stinks as far as conversion goes...as does Adobe's PDF format. I believe they're possible to convert to html or txt, but the tools to do so are expensive. I'm not sure about mobipocket format.
I haven't converted files in a while (and most of my conversion is from html to Sony format) so my info might be out of date.
A good site to check out is http://mobileread.com. They're to eBooks what xda is to HTC phones. They have both forums and a wiki full of information that could be of help.
In particular, check this wiki page out: http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_conversion

Thanks alot for your help.

AVI Format

I bought on the market the Android7AVIPlayer. I copy on the phone the movies i want to watch, in avi format, the program see the movie but doesn't start them. The weight of these files are about 750 mb each one and on the sd card there is a lot of free space. There is also a lot of free spece on the main memory of the phone. Is there someone that has the same problem? Is there a freeware to convert the files to a different format so to have an easylier access to them??
The Android7 team is one big mess. They make paid apps that don't work, a document reader, a PDF reader, a flash viewer, etc...
You'll have to convert your avi to .mp4 with a PC app, I use "Any Video Converter".

This means they won't give me back my money! This is not good!

PocketComic 1.2

A new version of PocketComic is out and the demo is availabe to download here:
http://www.jontylovell.net/index.ph...ket-comic&catid=3:pocketpc-software&Itemid=10
It has full CBZ support and can run on WM5, WM6, WM6.1 or WM6.5 devices. It also now supports both touch or non-touch screen devices and even has a virtual DPad for devices with no physical DPad just a touch screen.
With a huge range of features it is worth checking out. Also available from the same site is Comic Converter. A free tool to convert your comics from PDF, CBR, CBZ, ZIP, RAR, PPT, PPTX or just plain folders into CBZ comic format files. The converter allows you to select lost of sizing and formatting options so you can get the exact configuration for all of your comics in one hit. With drag and drop and bulk conversion it is a good compliment to PocketComic.

converting videos for nexus s

can someone share any information on how to convert videos for the nexus s? as i am having quite a bit of trouble, programs used etc?
http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/nexus-one-faq-how-tos/840-how-convert-any-video-your-nexus-one.html
enjoy. yes i know it says nexus one. same screen res though. worked like a charm for me.
Cheers dude
I use handbrake also, but do so in a slightly different way.
I got tired of re-ripping my movies each time I switched to a device that had a different resolution/codec/whatever. So what I did was to buy two 1TB drives, one for DVD Movies, and one for DVD TV shows. Then I downloaded the free DVDFab (http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm). DVDFab will strip the DRM from the movie and copy it. For movies I only copy the "main movie", for TV Shows I "copy the entire disk".
Then, since I dual-boot Ubuntu Linux, I wrote a couple of scripts to use HandBrake to go through all of the DVD folders and convert any DVD Movie to my current movie codec (right now mp4 using H.264). For the TV DVD's I create a text file with each episode's title and location on the disk. That way I can again transcode them automatically.
So, for instance, when H.264/mp4 is no longer viable and we are all on WebM, all I have to do is download the latest version of HandBrake for Ubuntu, change the settings in the script, and re-run them. Viola, I have all of my movies and TV shows on my third 1TB drive that I can take with me and put on my phone or laptop or whatever.
I found FormatFactory to be better than handbrake if you already have the source on your computer and want to implement subtitles. Just my experience.
Below are the settings that I use.

....It doesn't on others. So you can decide who to believe. I mean, it's been used and recommended by xda members and other sites. So yeah, believe what you want and use what you want.
The only thing McAfee got right is the wavesecure app, otherwise I wouldn't just believe everything their software say.

[Q] PDF Books?

Does the KF support PDF books as well? I'm still playing around with mine and there are a few books I'd like to check out from from my local library which is still in the dark ages. Many books are only available in Adobe Epub or PDF formats and not yet available for Kindle. I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and purchase the book or is there a way I can read one of those formats on the Kindle Fire?
Yes. But the included PDF reader (QuickOffice) is 'meh'. It loads pages quickly, you can select text, jump around, and search, but it doesn't save your last location, and you can't put notes within it.
I've tried so many PDF reading apps to fulfill the above, and the one I recommend is ezPDF Reader Pro @ $2.99.
You could always convert the pdf into an ebook format using calibre or any other converting programs. I did and it works fine. You can also convert epub books too.
For ebooks I strongly recommend that you use ePubs over PDFs whenever possible, it's just a much better format for the reading experience in my opinion.
If you do decide to use ePubs, I am a strong advocate of Aldiko. It is the absolute best reading app for android.
For me, some pdf books do not convert well to epub with Calibre. So a good pdf reader is important.
I will check out ezPDF Reader Pro Printerscape.
The other pdf reader I was looking at was Repligo Reader recommended from another post.
Added: Aldiko does not seem to work well on my KF. For .epub I really like using the Nook reader.
I'm also using ezPDF Reader Pro love it.
What they said. Convert to ePub or use adobe reader for free if you don't want to buy the paid app mentioned above (knowing adobe it might just be a crap app though)

Epub format problem?

I used Calibre to convert my pdf books into epub format and then transferred them over to my N7. But when i use alkido or mantano apps to read them the book format has 2/3 pages on the screen??
I thought epub was the format of choice for using on the N7?
Can someone tell me how I can get my books to display well as a single page while trying to read them as they are useless the other way above.
Thanks.
You might need to tweak some of the many settings when converting your book. Or try the original format, aldiko supports a few.
I have tried several ways to try and convert PDF to epub format. I got fed up in the end with the messed up outputs, eventually finding it easier to use ezpdf for reading PDF files

Although I haven't followed caliber recently, PDF was always troublesome as a source format: nature of the beast, according to the developer.
As you've discovered, you'll almost always be better off with an original PDF rather than converting that PDF.
