Hi, I just can't make the activesync over bluetooth work with my laptop (widcomm) and my magician (qtek s100).
the devices are paired enough, and I can see the serial port on the phone from the laptop, but when active sync starts to search for the connection, it loses the connection (the serial port is listed as not connected in the "my bt places").
Any tips/hints? Is something wrong on one of the machines? I will try to see if I can test with some other devices...
try this --> http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=f18b052a41d1d7b711c2b97ecd926005&threadid=544932
You can skip the step on installing and using the BT Tools.
cheers :wink:
Thanks, but that doesn't work for me...
I can pair allright, but I am unable to sync...
have you updated to the latest ROM for your s100? I noticed after updating my JAM that I do not need BTH tools anymore to activesync over BT.
Hi
have an O2 XDA II Mini (Magician) and I am using an XMicro Dongle on my laptop (Win XP with SP2....I am using the in built Microsoft BT stack which comes with SP2) and ActiveSync3.8. Initially syncing with BT was a problem but now its not a problem at all.
First you have to make sure that the COM port nos. selected by ActiveSync are less than 10 bcoz there is some bug due to which ActiveSync will not support COM ports above COM9.
To reduce the COM port nos. on your computer try the following website
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315539
Once you can see the hidden devices and ports delete/uninstall all the ports which are not in use.
To ActiveSync.....the following steps might help....
1 To sync with BT first delete all your pairing with your computer and phone on both devices.
2 Go to BT Manager on your phone and click both check boxes for Inbound and Outbound COM ports and pair the devices.
3 Once they are paired go to BT manager (on the phone) again and click on the start button (for BT ActiveSync setup) and pair the devices again if you have to.
4 Once that is done make sure that on the computer in BT Settings the the Serial Port Profile (SPP) "Serial Port COM4" is checked.Click on the phone device>property>services.
5 After that on the computer's BT Manager itself ensure that the COM ports folder shows incoming and outgoing ports with the phone's name in front.
6 Open ActiveSync (on the computer) ensure that the COM port no. is the same as the Incoming COM port no. given in step 5 above and it being shown as available. Sometimes if it is unavailable, the computer needs to be rebooted and then it will be shown as available.
7 Click on ActiveSync thru BT on the phone and it should work.
8 Whenever you wanna disconnect ActiveSync press stop on the compouter to disconnect.
It has been working for me since the past couple of weeks. Initially it took a lot of time to set up but now even if the pairing gets deleted or something messes up its working fine.
One thing to remember is that in case you are using a dongle with a laptop ensure that the dongle is plugged in BEFORE you boot up the laptop. A lot of people plug it in later and then ActiveSync on the computer shows the COM ports as unavailable.
I hope this helps.
All the best!
Hello, i cant figure out how to share internet to my mda via bluetooth, i found some guide :
Code:
1 To sync with BT first delete all your pairing with your computer and phone on both devices.
2 Go to BT Manager on your phone and click both check boxes for Inbound and Outbound COM ports and pair the devices.
3 Once they are paired go to BT manager again and click on the start button (for BT ActiveSync setup) and pair the devices again if you have to.

7 Click on ActiveSync thru BT on the phone and it should work.
but i stuck at 3rd point and i got error : "Please start bonding with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner"
waiting for any help
Hello Kukov , I was having the same problem then i found this link -
http://www.mtekk.com.au/browse/page831.html , hope it helps
thx a lot
it´s imposible for me, because don´t find this service on pc, i do all the step, and nothing nothing nothing
Try this...
I've found that you'll have a better chance of getting "activesync over bluetooth" to work, to discover and pair from your PC, not from your phone.
Somewhere i've also read a comment who said you should pair both ways, but i don't think that's possible and needed, just from your pc.
much succes, Sander
thanks i will do
nothing
nothing nothing nothing i don´t discovered activesync service on pc
Activesync use a Bluetooth com port on my PC. try installing one of these after paring the devices.
after 3 hours nothing of nothing

3 hours is a long time to spend.
Ok - step by step, 10 minutes MAX!
1) On your computer, go into bluetooth settings. Check bluetooth is ON and set to discoverable. Add an incoming COM port, eg. COM5.
2) On ActiveSync on your computer, go into connection settings. Tick all the boxes. If the COM port is greyed out, untick it, close the settings box, go back in, now tick it and set the COM port to eg. COM5.
3) On the K Jam go into bluetooth settings, and remove the connection to your computer.
4) On your K Jam go into ActiveSync, click 'menu' > 'connect via bluetooth' then you should see a message saying 'cannot find an existing bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?'
5) Click YES - you are taken to the Bluetooth settings screen.
6) Now click 'new partnership. As soon as you do this, the K Jam will search, and as long as your computer has bluetooth discoverable turned on, your computer will eventually be displayed. Check the computer name showing on the K Jam is the same as the name you gave the bluetooth profile on your computer.
7) On K Jam, click your computer name then NEXT.
8) Now enter a passcode - any four digit number (remember it) then next
9) When you do this, your computer will pop up with a message saying "a bluetooth device is requesting authorisation". Open this message and type in the code that you gave the K Jam. The next screen on the computer will tell you that it was successful - click FINISH.
10) Back on the K Jam, the screen will now be showing the services available. AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOWED STEP 1 and 2, ActiveSync will be an option, and you need to tick this and press FINISH on the K Jam.
11) Close bluetooth settings, now in ActiveSync screen click MENU > Connect via bluetooth. Your ActiveSync program on the computer should eventually pop up and connect.
NOW - if you failed at any point, say exactly where and what the problem is.

thanks for all... in point 10, only appear serial port, don´t appear activesync

Ok, that means your computer's bluetooth isn't passing the connection through to ActiveSync. This is either because bluetooth serial port isn't set up properly, or ActiveSync isn't accepting serial port connections.
Describe *exactly* what you see in the computer's ActiveSync connection setting screen. And describe exactly what you see in in your bluetooth COM port settings screen.

In AS connection setting:
mark: show status
Allow connections ... on com5
disabled usb
In BT i see:
activesync port 5
nothing only serial port
Can you give better descriptions?!
Is your COM5 port in bluetooth settings an incoming or outgoing port?
Are you using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack or the Widcomm?
Have you tried just selecting the serial port when setting up activesync on the k jam?
Reboot your computer, soft reset your k jam, check settings in ActiveSync are correct and do the whole thing over again....

i reset the computer several times
don´t worry ... i attemp on this later...
sorry and thanks for all
Set the incoming port to 8 on your computer, this made it work for me.
incoming port is same of local services port ?¿?
regards
When my pc looks for the incoming port its always at least port 21, sometimes ,up to 33. I've been told this is why it won't work because its far too high.
nothing of nothing ...
Are you using the latest version of Active Sync? -> 4.1?
hi all now i'm almost there! i have updated driver on laptop to a widcomm, updated jam with every bluetooth app i could find!
(Jam) anyway i delete all device partnerships,
(Jam) i then use bluetooth settings to add activesync via bluetooth,
(Jam) add new device
(Jam) add password
(Laptop) enter same password
(Jam) Availiable profiles window opens with serial port, activesync, modem, Headset, and network windows availiable but the lil icon saying busy comes up and never goes away?
i tried just selecting the profiles but to no joy
(Jam) when i went to activesync and tried to connect via bluetooth to BOH113 (laptop) it says connecting, laptop says connected (bubble not activesync) then the (Jam) window that says connecting just closes down with out connecting or syncing???
can someone help me plz i'm so close
Did you select your incoming bluetooth port in ActiveSync. Are your Bluetooth ports below 10?
yes! i selected port and yes it is below 10. only two listed 1 & 2 i tried both and still no luck!
(jam) now it just says connecting to host and does nothing?
(Jam) under bluetooth com ports tab;
incoming and outgoing ports have nothing listed, when you tap one of them the next window apppears but no port options come up?
could this be apart of the problem?
now when i select connect via BT with B..... it opens the connecting bubble , says do you wish to switch bluetooth on, i select yes it continues to try and connect and then it comes up with a bubble saying would you like to switch bluetooth off now to save power

On my computer and Universal, I find it easy to setup BT Active Sync if I activate the setup on the Universal first using active sync app. There is an option within the active sync app to sync via BT. The computer will then recognize the device and will ask you if you want to pair it. On the other hand, if I try to pair them beginning with my computer to search for the Universal, after pairing and ticking all necessary boxes, it still won't sync.
After pairing and ticking all necessary boxes. Make sure you reset BOTH your computer and the Universal.
The problem is that when I pair my Universal to PC, not appear the service "ActiveSync", but "Serial Port".
I've already tried to delete everything and reinstall bluetooth pen, with his drivers and with windows drivers, and ActiveSync too.
I've also deleted all pairs and all port on Universal.
But I've not obtained any result.
I don't know what to make.
Can someone help me?
Please.
Nobody has had my same problem?
Any idea, please?
I had the same problem until I upgraded from Toshiba BT stack to Wildcomm BT Drivers stack (4.0.1.700).
Things I have learned:
- If UNI is connected via USB then AS service will not show in device pairing on PPC.
- You need to create an incoming COM port on PC and set AS to allow connections to this port.

I haven't change the bletooth stack.
Until some week it makes worked regularly, but an evening, I was configuring my Laptop to use the JJ like BT modem, when the AciveSync service has begun not to recognize more like such, but like “Serial Port”.
I've already tried to delete everything and reinstall bluetooth pen, with his drivers and with windows drivers, and ActiveSync too.
I've also deleted all pairs and all port on Universal.
But I've not obtained any result.
Yesterday, I have tried the synchronization with an other PC with a fresh installation of windows, but the result has been the same one.
Therefore the problem is on JJ, even in the registry.
I don't know what to make.

Please help me...
Don't know if this will help and I claim no credit because this solution was written in some other threads. For the universal with a Toshiba bluetooth on your PC:
first, pair your Universal with your PC, you get "serial"
On your PC, create the following "bluetooth local com" (Control panel)
- COM7 Toshiba BT Port (COM7) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(TOSHIBA LOcalCOM)]
- COM6 Toshiba BT Port (COM6) LocalCOM-Client
In your activesync, allow connection to COM7
Now comes the fun part. On your universal, go to your bluetooth settings, devices, edit your device and press "Refresh", possibly more than once. Serial Port will change to ActiveSync.
It worked for me.
Eric
Also got to the control panel on PC and delete the bluetooth modem that was created. When u add a new incoming port on PC make sure it's not COM8 because that is used by JJ for USB modem connections.
same on treo 750v
I have the exact same problem on my Palm treo 750v. Searched the whole internet for a solution and found some other people with the same problem but no resolution. The only recommendation that seems to work is to do a hard-reset.
The problem started on my device after I played around with the Soft GPS port. It seems that it screwed up some COM port references for good...
I had the same problem on my notebook with Toshiba's BT drivers. I uninstalled them and connected an external USB BT which fired up the MS default BT stack.
After I completed the pairing using Bluetooth Devices (in control panel) and clicking Add in the devices tab, I used the COM Ports tab and added an incoming port and copied the number of this com port in the AS connection settings.
Now, I initiated the AS over BT from the Jasjar and it said something like "it cannot find the service or whatever and would you like to create one". I clicked yes, when it took me to the list of paired devices. From here I did what leblan has also noted "your device and press "Refresh", possibly more than once. Serial Port will change to ActiveSync." I too found that the serial port changed to ActiveSync. The key, IMHO is to hit that "Refresh" button; i.e. once your device and PC are paired and connected, going to the BT devices and editing (press & hold)the device name (the notebook or PC in this case) you will get the services which will initially say serial port, but when you click refresh, it will change to AS.
jj activesync via microsoft bluetooth stack
both from PC and JJ :
delete eventually existing pair between them;
from PC:
if there isn't create a local service COM port. I created COM8 not protected, automatic start;
from PC activesync:
remove flag both for USB and other connections;
from JJ activesync:
try to connect, it ask for pairing, reply yes;
In "mode" flag on turn on bluetooth & make this device visible;
search for new devices, when PC has discovered complete the pairing;
after paired, you can see a serial port and other PC's services;
stay there;
from PC activesync:
now turn flag on other connections setting COM8;
from JJ:
refresh and You can see that serial port begin activesync;
tip OK for close all bluetooth setting windows, You are redirected in activesync.
enjoy start to sync
15hours of crying and knocking the device. i've successfully fixed it...
i did this (credits to google)..
Delete all paired bluetooth devices from PC and from MOBILE.
CAUTION - USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK <--- I used a registry editor for the mobile phone (google for regeditSTG2) and opened the Branch "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\ActiveSync" There might be a Key with a hex-String like this "0016cxxxxxx" --> delete it. Change the View to display the values in this Registry Branch, then delete the "LastConnected" Value and set the "Initialized" value to "0"
Turn bluetooth OFF>ON
Pair from PC
Confirm on DEVICE (dont need to select anything just enter code and press OK)
Go START->Active Sync->Connect via Bluetooth
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Voilla worked for me..
hope this helps someone else
