Killed the internal GPS! - Touch HD General

I downloaded a free GPS logger proggy that looks for the GPS on a COM port. Using the External GPS menu in Settings > System, I then changed the COM port to 7 so that WM presented the internal GPS on COM7 which is what this particular piece of software required, but it didn't work.
I cut my losses as i wasn't all that bothered and returned the setting to its default (none).
TomTom will no longer find my internal GPS device, nor can I get any other application to find it...
Short of a hard reset, is there anything else that anyone can think of trying? I can't seem to find the configuration of the internal GPS on the net so I can at least try and get HTC GPS Tool to find it...
If anyone out there knows the COM port, and baud rate of the internal GPS, I would be most grateful.
If anyone out there knows the registry keys modified/created by the External GPS settings menu, I would be even more grateful, and indeed if deleting said keys solves my problem would be willing to donate actual real money.
Thanks in advance.

should be port 4 with 57600 baud rate

^^
isn't the default 4800?

GPS Control Panel??

Hello, I've read a few posts that mention a GPS control panel, one in particular gave a registry change to enable it, so I popped into the registry to turn it on, but it was already on.
My question is where is the GPS control panel? I've got TomTom on the way, so would be good if it worked!
I'm running the latest Imate ROM on my Wizard.
Cheers.
start-settings-connections tab.
Sorry, I should have said, 'why isn't it there', not 'where is it', but don't worry, I did a search and found the answer - the first registry tweak I read didn't tell me to delete the 'redirect' DWord. Deleted it and it's appeared.
Can anyone explain why it's not there by default and if it causes any problems by being hidden like this with installing GPS Devices and Navigation software?
Is there anything else hidden that I might want to turn on?
Cheers.
I own a Magician not a Wizard. I also have TT with original TT BT GPS receiver and it worked straight out of the box - no registry tweaks.

because it probably has no use with BT GPS systems. Its there because WM5 natively supports GPS systems that are built into the device, like the HTC Galaxy
Similar to GPS Gate
It's functionality (from what I've read) is supposed to be like "GPS Gate". The idea being you have one GPS receiver connected to your PPC, but you're able to "share" the GPS data with more than one application. I was only able to get it work properly with ONE piece of software (Mapopolis). You do not need it to run TomTom. I'm not sure why it doesn't work with other applications though. If I were you, I would not mess with it.

SWEET! Thanks for the update. Much appreciated. Even though I'm using the Microsoft one, I still want this one as well.
Great news. ThanksĀ”
I tried it and couldn't get it working on auto, set the port manually to the software port and it found the GPS but couldn't get a fix, but I was inside. I went outside and it still said 0 found and I was just about to give up and the maps redrew with me as the centre (I always knew I was the centre of the universe lol) So well chuffed.
Thanks for the heads up (BTW handago still have the old version - for uk use www.google.co.uk/gmm )
I also had to configure it manually, but I got a fix!!
Just downloaded. It works on my Advantage.
Yup, Manwell from Barcelona works good for me. I shall have to do a comparison with Live! Maps. Although the Satellite locater in GAps took about 5mins to get a position.

yes..thank you that's what i'm looking for..and now my gps is working..unfortunately there is no map for Malaysia yet..so only can view from satellite view
Yes, it works for me too. Thanks for the update. Had been struggling with the old version, and not being aware of this new version. In many download sites, they still have the old version even now.
My setting that works are as follows:
1) Setting>system>GPS: Program port: none, Hardware Port: COM5 Baud rate 9600, Access: Tick Mange GPS automatically.
2) In google map, Menu>Options>Track Location Settings>Set manually Com5: Baud rate 9600.
Be sure to stand in the open space for a while for the reading to come through.
Google Map 1.2.0.2 Navigational problem
Instead of using my Copilot Live for navigation, I decided to use google map to see how good it is for navigational purposes. I used to to come up with a suggested route to go from my home to a school. Everything goes well and good. I was able to see the blinking dot that indicates my current position. When the dot is outside the unit, it does not automatically shift the map like a normal GPS software would, but not a problem as I could do this manually. The dot is a little difficult to spot if you don't pay attnetion, you may not know where you are on the map. In any case, I could see that it had successfully guided me to the school.
Then, from the school, I planned a route to come home. The map correctly shows a suggested route, and I started driving. After a while, however, I noticed something was not right, because the blinking dot stays at the school even though I have departed. When I reached home, the blinking dot is still at school!
Am I the only one having this problem. Have you guys tried it?
My setting that works are as follows:
1) Setting>system>GPS: Program port: 1, Hardware Port: COM4 Baud rate 115200, Access: Tick Mange GPS automatically.
2) In google map, Menu>Options>Track Location Settings>Set manually Com1: Baud rate 11520.
Be sure to stand in the open space for a while for the reading to come through. - needed to do this.
Interestingly I coulsn't get it to wrk using the hardware ort and had to use the program port - I seem to be the only one doing this so might help someone else who has problems using the hardware port.
Mine is now working fine with Google and TomTom and am indors at the moment and am picking up 5/6 satellites in both

Same thing happened to me. I found that Live Search is a bit faster than Google Maps...but I'm still going to keep both installed. Glad Google Maps got the GPS thing fixed once and for all.

GPS Application won't work on my Touch HD - help please :(

I have
Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.64873
TomTom 7 - v7.910.9185
and for both of them, when I try to start the program... the cursor change to busy for a short while and then nothing happens...
I've had a quick look at both the iGO and TomTom 7 topic but didn't find any clue... and didn't want to post the same thing in each topic...
If anyone know how to fix it... please help.
Thanks
How have you got the settings configured?
I set the port to COM4 on Programs in External GPS.
If you mean tomtom/igo setting then i can't get in the program yet...
on iGo8, i can see the blue screen with the fancy number 8, but then it quits...
nothing whatsoever with tomtom...
some one help please....

I am using tom tom 7.450.9028 and it works good
I set my GPS hardeware port -> (none)
and set programs port to com9
I had some issues with my GPS and Quick GPS, I had enabled in use the Advance Config program, turning it off and it all started to work nicely.
Hi
Try this GPS test program - it automatically scans all ports for any GPS device and sets up the comms link.
http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
Good luck, D
I had same problem with iGO.
I used the rar on XDA/ IGO8 and Htc HD/Blackstone page 66 and it's better.
Now it starts but get stuck into "initialising warning data".
I'll try 2 or 3 reset as some other users report it has worked after 2-3 resets.
My device has the GPS on port 4, so setting this very same port in the External GPS port doesn't seem to me as correct way.
Have you tried setting different COM port in the External GPS?
no.... i dont set anything with External GPS for Hardware, only tried Program with COM4... even tried with no port at all...
btw, I have no problem when using GPS on google maps, it turn on and track just fine...

Baud rate should be 4800 and not 9600. Also, make sure that Location is turned on.
57600 baud rate will works too. In fact that is what HTC GPS Viewer is defaulted too.
You may have to flash to pre-GPS ROM.
See this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533639&highlight=verizon+gps

GPS Viewer was never meant for the Vogue, so whatever default value you see in there isn't meant for this.

Going to a pre-GPS rom is ok, just be sure that you stay on radio versions above 3.xx.xxx or you may end up damaging the device.
