So when I attempted to purchase any app on the market (that costs money), I would get an error stating that there was a problem processing the request and to see checkout.google.com to fix it.
Well I logged into my checkout.google.com account, using the same credentials that are present on my phone, and there is nothing. No attempts at purchases or anything.
1. Does anyone know why I can't purchase anything (i have set up a payment method on my checkout account and everything)
2. How do I get the market to show the apps that have disappeared. Namely Hello IM! and SnapPhoto Pro do not appear in the market at all.
I have deleted the cache for the market to see if that would help, but didn't.
Is there some sort of issue with JF ADP 1.1h that doesn't allow for purchasing apps?
Google is blocking protected apps (not just payed) in the market to adp's. Flash jfs rc33 is you want root and protected apps.
I have RC33 and root and can't see a lot of apps, prettysure it isn't just ADP phones getting blocked.

It also has to deal with your sim card more than anything.
Google blocks paid apps for unlocked G1 users

Interesting fact - I couldn't see any paid apps available in the market. But when I turned on Wifi and then looked at the market, the paid apps were there!

Well, that seemed to fix it...I still think it's weird that I could see the paid and protected apps, but could not buy them...I didn't even think of switching back to RC33 from ADP. Makes sense though, considering how horribly sad and pathetic DRM is on the market.
Yeah I had ADP1.1h and couldn't see most of the paid apps. So I switched back to RC33 and they were all there. I don't understand why Google is doing this. They say its to prevent piracy but by not offering paid apps to ADP users they are making worse since the only way to get the apps is through piracy.
It has nothing to do with paid apps... it is protected apps. The Developers are the ones that say an app is protected.

I can see paid apps, I just can't see all apps. Like Bettercut and Quick Office, they don't show up at all for me.

This came up in another thread and I just wanted to put it out there in case others have the problem and don't follow the thread. I know I have bought apps before on the Marketplace but now, for some reason, I can only see apps that are free. I am using the most recent Google Ion image, with sqsh.
Any ideas?

Just noticed that, I wonder if its the rom or if in fact its our carrier signature thats blocking the paid. I know Verizon is launching its first Android Handset by Motorola called the Sholes A855 and I am wondering if they disable the paid apps option in lieu of its own app marketplace. If anybody else can confirm this, please note like I did what carrier, rom and if you can access paid apps.

I don't think it's a ROM issue as we both use different builds. I'll try a few things tonight and see what I can come up with unless someone else does first.
Looks like we aren't the only ones... but this was back in July and there was no reply to it:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f12/android-market-not-showing-paid-apps-22043/
Hopefully we can get this resolved.
Have tried all of the roms and I am on Sprint. I NEVER get have seen paid apps.
i second that from verizon. never have had paid apps. tried all roms. Im liking this latest hero rom though. i think im gonna stick with it. pretty smooth

I'm on Sprint and have paid apps on my phone, but none are showing in the market recently. I wondered why I couldn't find Bloo or Cachmate! To confirm I went to Applications > All Applications > Menu >Change View>Priced Items Only and nothing was returned.
I also saw that there is a new market coming out. When it is launched will we be able to use that on our port?
Looks like this might be our problem, this was posted two days ago (about the time we stopped seeing paid apps) so I'm guessing whatever change they made could have done something to our ability to view and purchase paid apps. I'm debating whether or not to post on the official forums about our problem.

Hi everyone,
We made a change today that should fix accessibility issues for some Samsung Galaxy and HTC users. If you're still having issues, please let me know.
Thanks for your patience.

EDIT: I posted a question on the google support forums, hopefully they will answer or at least look into what could be causing the issue: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=44ab7732ede802ef&hl=en
I know that the no-paid-apps problem is still persisting but my luck has just changed for the worse. Now, I can only see about 18 apps in total on the market and I can't filter out free/paid.
Use the market enabler found here:
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/
Load it up, long-press on the carrier of your choice (I use T-Mobile US) and select "Use this profile" or whatever. Should do the trick.
However, after running the Donut Market, as noted by some people in the Donut thread, most of the apps in the market will disappear, even if you go back to Cupcake.

Yeah, must have been the Donut Market that screwed me up. Running Market Enabler does nothing for my phone, guess I'll be getting the Sholes when it hits Verizon in a few weeks.

I am also paddling right next to you guys. What I tried was clearing the phone of my google login data. This allowed me to create a new google account the next time I launched GMail or Market. I was then able to see all of the free apps on Market. Unfortunately, when I re-cleared my google login data, in order to login back into my real gmail account, I was back to only seeing 20 apps.

Shakes his fists at the Google gods! Curse you!
Yeah, market enabler won't do anything for our Donut Market Corruption, AFAIK.
However, over on the Hero forums, they don't seem to have a problem with the Market. So I asked them about it, and Maximus asked to see our build.prop, which I provided for him both from our cupcake and donut builds. If I have time tomorrow I will download a Hero image and compare their build.prop to ours and see if I can figure anything out.
OK... I may have figured some more stuff out.
I was browsing the Sapphire forums, and found that the dev of one of their Donut ROMs changed the device name to MyTouch, for reasons similar to the issues we're having:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4674402&highlight=market#post4674402
Again, if I get time tomorrow, I will look into modifying some roms to see what results I can get. Hopefully we can get past this. And hopefully the problem doesn't follow me to the HTC Hero I'm getting next month.

Hey guys i'm using a HTC Polaris with ION build. After tested a tattoo build i suffer from the same problem. For me there are also FREE Apps not showing! for example shopsavvy! is this shown in your market?
Thanks
P.S. I also used Market enabler without any effect!
Hi, I have two questions. 1) When I access the market I only see the free apps. How do I access the paid apps? 2) I used a different app (I forget the name) to directly access the top paid apps, but when I try to buy anything I get a message saying that my Google acccount has problems. I have double checked all the account details, and everything is correct Any ideas? Thanks.
Please check that you set up your google account on your phone properly, and then take a look at the market ( with the original app)... there are free and there are paid apps listed there, you can list them as "most popular" or "most recent"..
The market always worked fine for me, I have to admit that I did not buy any app from the market until now...

Thanks for your reply. I've set up my Gmail account for receiving Gmail using the Gmail app. Is this all I need to do, or are there additional settings I've missed? Thanks.
You can't access paid apps probably because Market is not available in your country. However, if you want to you can always use Market Enabler which is made available at http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/

I think you're probably right, as I'm based in Russia. I'm new to the Android platform, would you mind telling me how I install Market Enabler? Thanks again.
Or us unfortunate souls who do not want to root our beloved Heros will just have to wait for Android 1.6 (don't forget HTC has to make their Sense UI work for it too)...
If I root & reflash my CDMA Hero to 2.x, will I have any problems reinstalling the apps I've purchased through AppStore, or (god forbid) is it as easy as, "relaunch Appstore after reflashing, log in, then go to the list of installed apps & just tell it to download & reinstall them?"
You can download your purchased apps again and again regardless of how many times you flash or how many times you change your phone.
To a certain degree but not always. I just flashed my Droid from 2.0.1 to the Nexus One 2.1 ROM and I have a few apps that I purchased that will no longer show in the market like Pure Calendar and PicSay Pro. After contacting the developers I was told that the apps feature "Google Copy Protection" and basically Google does not recognize the ROM I am using.
http://koxx3.wordpress.com/2009/11/20/pure-calendar-invisible-on-the-market-for-some-users/
Is there any way to find out (before buying) whether or not an app is protected?

I don't know. To be honest I don't even know how to check the apps I already have for protection, other than the fact they arent available im the market anymore.

No, but when you have root you can pull /data/app-private where protected apps are stored...
what if you install them to your SD card using apps2sd; I think they will remain after reflashing. it happened to me a while ago.

they probably arent showing up on the nexus 2.1 dump because they do not support 2.1...if you reflash back to stock they should show up again
There's a couple of paid apps I wouldn't mind getting but the app store seems to work a little different than the WM one, I haven't signed up for a google checkout account as yet and that could be where I'm going wrong ..
So far Ive only downloaded freebees but when I dump a new build of Android on my phones SDcard all knowledge in the store of my downloads disappears, I assume this info is stored somehow on the SDcard. Is this the case with paid apps as well ??? or will google checkout keep a record of what Ive downloaded and let me download it as many times as I want, bit like the 'WM Market does after youve reflashed a ROM ..

Just like you said, google check out keeps a record of your apps. In my case, in Portugal we dont have access to paid apps, so i have to use market enabler to be able to download paid apps i bought.

Excellent, I'll get the creditCard out then
yes, google saves all the apps you've previously purchased in your download history. i was able to redownload all the apps i had from my previous android phone into the new phone (weather widget, setcpu, etc..) you'll always have it as long as the devs continue to support it (for example, bloo, a facebook client stopped developing, i paid for it but really have no use now)
anyone getting these?
in previous firmwares we had to patch the build.prop to a known f/w version in order to see these in the market or run an app like market enabler that did the same thing for us.
B4 i update want to be sure i can get back to my paid protected apps..
can anyone on jk3 search for and see for instance slingplayer in the market?
I have dozens of paid apps, all still accessible on JK3.

paid is not the same as paid and protected apps.. i always have paid apps too ,,,, but protected apps are different. there is a check for known firmware versions on the assumption that if you have an unknown one, you have rooted and the protected apps will not show up for/re copy protection.
no one.. come on .. how hard is it for someone with jk3 to search for slingplayer in the market and see if it comes up?
Ok, here you go...
1) Searched for it Market, not found.
2) Searched for it App Brain, found but...
3) Clicking on the "Market" button on App Brain, says the App is not found.
So it seems like it is not available.

paid versions of apps will come up but protected apps like slingplayer and others (which are also paid) but have an extra check will not come up unless the version in the build.prop is on the accepted s/w release version list..
out of the 100 apps or so i have only 3 are paid and protected:
slingplayer
zingmagic bridge
asip
these will be in your /data/app-private directory in phone memory
