Well, first off let me say I have just upgraded from iGuidance 2 to iGuidance 3. iG 3 is about 8 MB bigger than iG2 and therefore I had to install it on my mini SD card. It works perfectly fine, loads seems to be just as fast (since maps are stored on the mini SD with either program. Anyway, my problem is basically that the program works great, but when the lady comes on telling me when to turn, lets say in 2 miles...it is REEEEAAAALLLY slow and exhagerated. She goes like, Turn.........left..........in........two........miles...... I recently started overclocking my 8125 to 260 MHz to see if it was a speed issue, but no change as far as the sound goes. Any ideas?
turn off your internet connection and you should be OK
DNO
IGuidance 3
Runs fine for me, at stock speed, program and maps on the mini-SD. Maybe it is the overclocking?

I have Iguidance 3.0. Now I need the GPS module.
Which GPS module do you all use? What is the best now? Holux, Globalsat? or some other.
Thanks

i use the Rikaline GPS-6033 Bluetooth from buygpsnow.com its $89
picks up 32 sats works indoors and its fast at cold startup locks on to sats

I tried it at stock speeds and overclocked speeds, it still did the same thing. I'll try turning off my ActiveSync with my Exchange later today when I'm going on a small road trip and see if that solves the problem.

I use the Holux GPSlim 360 I think it is. The number may be off though. It's uber small and I just throw it in the center console in my car and use it when necessary. Cold start is about 30-45 seconds.
The Rikaline GPS-6033 does not show to be SirfIII. I thought this is the latest technology to get. Is this a more recent technology or is the SirfIII over blown?
I brought this to the attention of iNavcorp, makers of iGuidance, a few weeks ago. This was their reply:
"Our programmers are currently looking into this issue. In the mean time, while turning off the phone will resolve the issue, based on our knowledge, you should be able to simply disable the gprs (wireless data connection) function on your PPC phone which will also resolve the slow voice issue, but this way you will still have phone access."
I had told them that turning off the phone solves the problem. Anyway, they are aware, and I am hopeful that they will fix this in an upcoming patch.
p.s. DNO's answer was right on...

SiRFstarIII is amazing. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

It is the GPSlim 236 and it is a great unit! I love mine.
The voice on mine works great, I could not get it to instal to the SD, I had to install the CAB there, and then run that to install the actual program to the phone. My problem is that the maps haven't been updated with streets that have been made in the last few years, and the shopping POIs arn't that great.
I have a Houlix 268 slim (I Think thats the model), and it randomly loses connection, so I have to power-cycle it and restart IG3, for it to regain connection.
Also every once and a while it does a wierd click sound when I'm slowing down.

I did notice this was the issue this weekend. Is there a "quick" way to disable GPRS? I guess i'll keep an eye on iNavcorps website.
Turn it off from the comm manager. Mine works fine while I am using BT for my headset and on the phone talking.
Do iGuidance do maps for Europe? THey seem to have discontinued their european product; if I can get the europe map from v.2.12 will it work with v.3.0?
Cheers.
I have installed a (legitimate since you ask) copy of tomtom NAVIGATOR 6 onto my MDA Vario II. The 4+ Mb programme resides in main memory and the Western_Europe map and everything else is on the 2Gb Sandisk Micro SD card. I have a Fuzion SiRF starIII bluetooth GPS receiver. tomtom's US website says the hardware and software are compatible, the UK site does not. The programme runs very slowly (it's not smooth as I have seen demonstrated on a Mio, which had a 312Mhz processor, but is stilted). Sometimes the machine locks up and I have to press the 'OK' button. When browsing the map, the machine struggles to process the picture. I ensure that there are no running programmes. What is the cause, please? Could it be that the hardware and software are incompatible?
just try to flash aku 3.3 to your vario. it will make ur phone work smooth and will not hang at all. then u will be able to run tomtom 6 perfectly
Rather than risk aku 3.3 issues I suggest you are probably right and there is soe sort of hardware issue. I have navigator 6 and TOMTOM BT receiver and hav absolutely no issues at all
I use TT6 on a daily basis and I can say that under WM5 AKU2.3 it used to hang very often when putting post code. I ran ok. After flashing AKU3.3 it works flawlessly. The same with WM6. Now it also seems to run a little bit faster.

Welcome, but you are in the wrong place my friend. This is the HTC Hermes forum. This site is primarily for HTC devices. However here is Tomtom 6 for PPC phones (official tomtom site):

What you need to do is disable all the POI's except the speed cameras. Mine did exactly the same thing. You can still navigate to the POI's, they just don't show up as you're driving past.
Cheers.
ok... maybe you guys who have already told him to upgrade his phone to aka3... somthing or other do know best BUT...
could you please say what version of tomtom 6 you have. (there are at least 3 versions i have used)
to find this
load tomtom
on the navigation window tap the section of the screen that shows GPS signal strenth this will load the route summary window.
in here below the right hand side pannel that again show the GPS signal strength it should say the version number 6.XXX
please let me know what versino you have... i have found varying levels of stability and performace with diff versions of tomtom.. might be as simple as a different tomtom build to resolve your issues.

yep this is the same on mine, disabled all but a few POIs and no or very rare freezes. if it does freeze up hit the hangup button and relaunch.
there was some hope with the Version 7 tomtom out soon that there would be a fix for the problem.

My Hermes is running with AKU 3.3 and my TomTom is 6.0.30
ok. i have had pretty good results with 6.0.30 but it might be worth you trying the 6.0.20 version and see how you get on.
at least you will loose the anoying mute on start bug. (the phone sees a data connection and asuumes its a phone calls so starts in mute.)
ok well the results your described i saw with the first tomtom 6 i used, im assumeing it was on 6.0.00 but i have had pretty good results with 6.0.30 but
it might be worth you trying the 6.0.20 version and see how you get on. I'm using that this week by mistake since my last hard reset but its been stable for me.

Hello every body,
Can anyone know if TomTom is ok in htc touch dual?
If yes, can anyone give me a link, were i can download it, and recent map of europe?
best regards
I have TomTom 6 Navigator running fine on my Touch Dual, using a Qstarz BT318 external GPS. There were no problems during installation. Although it is a little awkward having to carry the external GPS, at least it has its own 1100 mAh battery so both devices last a long time in GPS mode.
I couldn't find the TomTom software available to download anywhere (legally). I bought the DVD from this company: http://www.digital-fusion.co.uk/
Item: 1T90.015
Quantity: 1
Product: Tomtom Navigator 6 Software + Maps Of Western Europe Dvd Unit Price: GBP 60.81 (Excl. VAT)
Very impressed by the TomTom software - even with a 2.6" picture, the 3D view is very usable whilst driving.
Thank you very much
Best reagards
if you want to be "naughty" then searching will get you where you want. We can't provide links here I don't think, but all the usual torrenting sites have it.
My (bought) copy, weirdly, boots up when I switch my phone on - it's not in the startup but it does anyway. Perhaps cause I took the shortcut off my home screen?
Also, one thing to be aware of - if your phone is in vibrate mode, and you start Tom Tom, when you have finished & later set your phone to non-vibrate, you'll find it's muted your ringer volume. I missed loads of calls before I realised what the culprit was.
Other than that it works fine on my touch dual, with a similar GPS antenna (incidentally, just posted elsewhere that my battery on my antenna just lasted since Sunday afternoon (it's not Thurs eve) since I didn't realise I'd left it on. A bit astonished at the battery life of the thing!!!
Garmin XT also gets good reviews, some claim it's better.
no problems here w the tom tom.
just take into account the mute fact.
anyway the external gps takes longer than other devices to work fine. the com ports are more complicated than i thought. but nothing u cant solve in a day or two.
i cant put a shortcut in my homescreen. anybody knows how to?
thanks

shortcut: look in your today screen items - it's in there.. or should be... in fact it should've appeared by default
em, i found the ext gps easy... just use "other"... NMEA... I think.. took 5 mins to work out.
let me know if you have probs, i can check out the settings used
i know but its doenst appear,
anyway its not a big deal. plus, i guess its a version problem.
and... talking about the ext gps, i guess the prob doenst come from tom tom but the pda. i took me time to figure out the com port number to paired the device.
i have it as com 7, com 4, 4800, check gps automatic.
btw, i didnt use other nmea because i have a bt gps receiver.
i forgot what com port i choose at tomtom.
but no need for that when i connected it thru google maps.
dont know. just works.
thank you for your help.
Tomtom not visible when receiving call
I used to have a HTC 8310 smartphone (Mobile 5 and Tomtom 5.20). The good thing was, that when Tomtom was working and I then received a call on thr 8310, I would see the Tomtom screen again after a few seconds while continuing talking. Only the Tomtom voice would de-activate while speaking to the other person. That was excellent, because I could still see where I was supposed to be driving while speaking to another person on the phone at the same time!
I now have a NIKI 100 (Mobile 6.1 and Tomtom 6) and I find that the Tomtom screen does not re-appear immediately after accepting a call. The screen stays on the dial-screen the whole time. Only after the call is finished, Tomtom comes back automatically.
Does anyone know a way to change this, because it's pretty annoying.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same "problem". Before on my wizard it worked like you describe and now it stays in the dial-screen and Tomtom doesn't reappear. Also when the call is finished I have to switch back manually by clicking on the small icons in the corner on the right bottom.
I also have a NIKI 100, Tomtom 6 and WM6.1 (Niki Project).
Does anybody knows how to fix this?
Do somebody know if there is any difference (in practical terms) in GPS implementation in both devices.
I've heard (unconfirmed) that Xperia could not use its GPS module without access to gsm network (it is capable only of aGPS) while Touch Pro could do both (aGPS as well as stand alone GPS).
Please let us know.
Thanx.
I haven't tested neither of them so I can't tell you about that, but what I can say is that the rumour you´ve heard (about only accessed to gsm network) is NOT true. aGPS is just like an ordinary GPS but with the assistance of the "a" (the gsm network) when and if available.
GPS
It makes sense. Thank you.
The Xperia has both network assisted gps and regular gps
the gps is in the qualcomm cpu same brand on both devices as i'm not wrong
Since both Pro and X1 use the same chipset for GPS, has anyone, who owned both, noticed any differences(or similarities) in the performance of X1?
Did someone test the fomous GPS lag issue in X1?
I have had a very positive experience with the xperia's gps.Outdoors (inside cars ofc) I can get a fresh gps fix within second. Indoors I usually get it in less than 2min but that prob depends on the building
cheers
Hi.
But what about the GPS lag issue of touch pro and Diamond?, you know, when you move (by car) and you stop then the arrow reaches you after some seconds (instead of stop in the moment), this is, the arrow is always 20m-60m behind you.
I can confirm that there is about one second of lag with the GPS while driving with a constant speed of ~80 km/h. Tested with the latest TomTom. This equates to about 20 m. I have yet to see a GPS receiver that doesnt have any lag though...
Thanks. Thats what I wanted to know

But have you seen any GPS that DOESN'T lag?
I am curious because the few I have seen, internal and external do lag also. I figure GPS by its nature HAS to lag, its the time it takes to get a signal off several satellites and triangulate your position from them.
Hi Alex.
Take a look to the diamod,s forum and touch pro forum and you will see what I am talking about. There are hundred of forum pages talking about it (in xda). I ve used gps devices since 10 years ago. With my latest devices (kaise, cruise) there wasnt that issue. But GPS lag in diamond make very hard to drive in a city. When theorically diamond shows you re in a cross really you are 50 meters passed and I loose many turns. Many people, me included, ve contacted with htc to report the issue and they say their people is trying to fix the problem.
Dani
Ah so "Its lag Jim but not as we know it!".
Fair enough, I hope the X1 doesn't suffer then but I have an external GPS for my Wizard anyway if it did.
hehe,
I ve an external gps bt too but I want to use the internal one. I am very sad about the diamond gps lag problem and I am going to sell it and buy a x1 if, and only if, gps lag isnt a problem with x1
ps: GPS performance is very important to me, did you notice it?

Of course, you're batman after all
Can't have you running into walls with the batmobile.
Well at least if you run into walls with the batmobile, the car isn't harmed.
Besides, if you followed GPS literally you would be driving on the sidewalk and through trees - at least according to Google Maps anyway.
That last few couple of meters of inaccuracy can be a real pain
Exactly!!. My bat-car hasnt windows to protect me against guns and rockets so I need to rely in the gps at 100%
By the way what gps software do you think is best for the Xperia ?

Hi,
This thread might be ELF specific related as on other devices the problem with the same GPS receivers is not happening!
I own 2 Elf's one running plain original rom and one running Touch Surface and 2 different Bluetooth GPS receivers one is an Adapt AD850 and an el cheapo one GPS20C orso both of them are using passkey's of 4 digits.
I have now for an huge time problems with TomTom connecting to the GPS. It connects sometimes but looses the connection direct after an few seconds. Then it takes ages to get an reconnection or sometimes it won't connect even. But when it has an connection it seems to work fine and i can navigate for hours.
If i switch off orso and want to reconnect the same problems but sometimes it connect directly and works perfect.
When i have connection problems some things might seem to help to get an connection: Switch GPS off and on, Setup in TomTom the GPS again, Disable and enable Bluetooth.
I have tried to pair different times with the GPS but this makes no difference and it also make no difference which GPS i use or wich Elf i use.
The most strange in the whole story is that i previously had an GPS that needed no pass key for pairing and never had these problems. Also the TomTom version makes no differens. Offcourse i tried on one elf various roms and radio versions but this makes no difference.
Oh well maybe santa is bringing me an real navi system
Thanx,
Jerome
This may be obvious but its worth me saying - have you got the phone enabled?
Reason is I often turn my phone off and use my Touch as a mp3 player / video etc and when i fire up the tomtom and GPS reciever if the phone is in an off state then totmtom never gets a proper connection. I spent ages trying to figure out why it only worked sometimes and the realised it was due to the phone connection. Why tomtom needs the phone on I dont know but it wont work otherwise.
Sorry double posted

Well no solution .. still drops GPS connections and take ages before getting an connection.
Have overclocked the Elf to 273 Mhz now and seems an bit more stable so might be an TomTom Issue with high cpu usage ?
