HTC TyTN/HERMES screen? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all. The story as always is sad - my Hermes fell down with the screen down right on the wheel chair leg. So now it's cracked and I don't see anything on it.
Well... I've ordered new screen on ebay here. I got the package today and being very happy disassembled the phone and changed the screen. When tried to turn it on nothing happened... I connected USB cable and just red (not orange) LED lit on and nothing happened more. Then it appeared that the battery drained out and some part of the mainboard got very hot.
I disassembled the phone again and put back the cracked screen, switched on the phone and voila it turned on (just of course I was not seeing anything... only through PocketController app). Well... I thought that I assembled something wrong and put back the new screen.. and again red LED...
So, my question is... did I choose wrong screen? Or it is not functioning? I already sent the response to the seller that the item is not working, but wanted to ask the question to you guys, the professionals.
Thanks for any thoughts and answers...
Best regards,
Levon
P.S. On the back of the phone is written HERM100.

Sounds like the wrong board but I don't know for sure.
Here is a link to the screen I bought to fix my Cingular 8525.

And new from ebay
Can anyone tell me if they are really not compatible..?
And if not, for which HTC models is second LCD screen?
Thanks a lot and sorry for posting big pictures, wanted you to be able to read model numbers...

OK
Your original is made by Toppoly and the new one is made by Samsung.
Both are for the Hermes/Tytn but you cannot substitute one for the other because each has a different video controller circuit. HTC produced different generations of the Hermes and you need to get precisely the right LCD by the correct manufacturer.
See here:
Samsung - LTP280QV-E01, AKA: 60H00032-00M
Toppoly - TD028STEB1, AKA: HTC60H00037-01M or HTC60H00037-00M, these have a black label
Hitachi - TX0704APAA1 AKA: HTC60H00056-00H or HTC60H00056-00m

Hi Mike, thank you very much for clearing that up! I came up to similar list, but having that to hear from you is just great.
umpire, thanks for your reply, may I ask you something, can you find out which exactly model have you received from that seller? which one from the Mike's list.
Guys I very appreciate your answers. I hope I'll have my phone back soon!
Best regards,
Levon

I don't know the specific numbers.
When I searched ebay for mine, I searched specifically for 8525 and checked those items.

umpire, thanks a lot, man, I'll contact to that seller.

Can you tell if these are the same?
The 2nd and 3rd one are identical, 60H00037-01M
The 1st (left) is my original screen. The black flex looks the same, and they all say GP 1701000001D, but the first one has different connections where the two ribbons join the black flex (right behond the white sticker on the right side)
Both my flex cables say 73H20093-09M on the top.
Thanks

Not all screens are the same!

Just have noticed that new units have much better screen in them! Look at the pictures. New screen doesn't change color while viewing under different angles and it dimms instead of turning off! Looks like screen on new Artemis units! Red is red on new units, doesn't have this pink hue.

Seems that HTC has replaced the buggy screens on new devices
Can you post the first 3 digits of the Serial Number from both devices in the pictures?
631 - left
636 - right
now I'm pissed
There is no way for me to tell by just the picture but I think I have the better screen.
I have serial 628 so you would think that it would have the bad screen, then again I am basing it off a picture.
On the other hand, maybe HTC was using the good screens then got a better deal on these other ones, and now is switching back? Because I have not had the alignment issues everyone else speaks of (THANK GOD, I feel for you guys I really do. You see the flip out touch screen in my car acts up and it drives me INSANE!)
So chalk up another inconclusive and basically useless post for me!
Later, Lew
I have a 628 and from the picture I would have to say I am with you lew. My reds look red and I also have not had the alignment issue. My keyboard just sucks!
come to think of it my red looks red too and I haven't had the screen alignment problem.... yet
dude are you using a screen protector on any of those tytn's or both ? same type ?
mine is 628 too
Mines a 632... have screen alignment probs but have disappeared for almost a month. But if their giving out better screens il get it sent for repair
I have a 628 too.
And my red looks red (just like the one on the right).
Never had the aligment issue. I've bought mine as soon as it got in stores.
Nick
What do you mean your keyboard sucks?
I have not had any issues with it yet (knocks on wood, REALLY)
but I think you got yours first. What problems do you have?
When closed the left side of my TyTN is very loose, that is a US quarter. Also it the keyboard is really loose when locking into place either closed or open.

I've got the same issue too!
I have a 635, and my screen looks exactly the same as the 636 and dims aswell.
Cept for the I have issues with several keys not working properly. If you press it in a specific angle, the button doesn't respond.
This is mainly on my 'A' button...

Adapt stylus broke my silo!!! Don't buy them!!!

Hi everyone,
Today I bought a set of new styli from Adapt for my Hermes. I used it for a few times today. But one time when I reinserted the stylus after entering some text, I heard a "knack" sound in the silo. Now my stylus will fall out when picking up the device. I am very disapointed with this particular Adapt product and recommend everybody who reads this post to not purchase their styli.
But my real question is, does one of you know how to fix this?

You have either broken the white clip or dislodged the rubber block.
You would need to remove the back casing (4 screws) and unclip around the edge.

nice one mike, excellent answer.have a go dude its very easy actually
Fixed it!
Thanks Mike,
Fixed it this evening. Indeed, it was just too easy! Only releasing the back, after unscrewing it, was kinda tricky. Everything turned out fine and it works like a charm now.
Thanks again!
Scott
Good news!
I forgot to mention, but I'm sure you remembered to line up the camera's macro toggle arm when putting the back on again. If not you'll find the macro switch doesn't work. If so it's easy to remove the back, line iup the switch (a bit fiddly) and replace back cover again.
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip.
Before I attemted the "surgery", I read the blog you reffered to throughoutly. So I knew about the macro switch. But thanks again!

Replacing the magics coverings

I am a proud magic owner but as some users have found out like me, it is a slippery fish when it comes to its glossy covers. At first I did not use the slightly camp white leather pouch the magic comes with and now I am regretting it.
The phone has now acquired some bumps and scraps. I thought to my self I would replace the phone covers. So I ordered some on the bay and got them sent to my office.

I hunted down the service manual for the phone. (If anyone is looking for this I have it uploaded here).
I merrily went to work disassembling it bit by bit until I came across a slight problem. Now I have uploaded pictures to illustrate my woes.
First the battery cover was completely rubbish, the brushed steel plate that surrounds the camera was dented and also had the metal grate missing which usually covers the speaker. This was not the biggest worry however.
When I dismantled the phone I got to the stage of separating the the front cover from the middle part of the case. Now as you can see on this picture on the back of the mid section of the case there are two white label like stickers which have gold contacts on the inside.
There are more of these labels on the antenna at the bottom of the phone also. They make contact with gold contacts on the phones main board. I assume the bottom antenna is the gsm antenna and the the contacts on the top are for the gps. I could be wrong though this could be the other way around.
The problem is these label type contacts are not present on my new case mid section as I have shown here in this picture.
Has anyone else had any experience with changing the covers on this phone. Or if these contacts are important or even if its possible to find these labels so I can fit them to my new case.
Cheers for any help you can give me, or if any of this info is useful to you also if you are in the same sticky situation.

bumpity bump!
you could try contacting htc, maybe someone could be friendly enough to point you in the right direction. also email the vendor you got the parts from and say the housing is unusable. I ran into a similar problem with my g1, which ended up having the housing all jacked up.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thanks for your help, I will see if I can find out anything and post my findings.
Vale
Just curious, have you tried removing the stickers? Would they just rip apart? Is that the only complication?
You might be able to find a bricked/waterdamaged magic and change the housing without all the drama.
hey check this out too, it may help:

[photo on the side]Hello,
I'd like to show you few photos from replacing, or more like fixing a torn out USB port.
The phone came to us with symptomps of not charging, and after opening it we saw this:
[first photo]
As you can see, not much from the port was left. Torn out GND fields /*not sure about the translation*/, broken - torn out signal fields /*again not sure if fields is a good word*/ of the socket...
[second photo]
...quick preparations and let's begin:
[third photo, zoomed in]
This is how the board looks after initial preparations. Torn out ground fields I had to replace by stripping soldermask, so we could solder the new socket with some stability
[fourth photo]
The holes in the board are cleaned out, the next step was to tin the entire ground field and soldering the socket...
[fifth photo]
Of course the phone can't be charged yet, nor it will communicate because the socket is soldered only to GND. All we had to do was to connect to the signal lines...
[sixth photo, zoomed in]
And now let's test it.
[seventh photo, with HD2 connected]
After testing the communication and charging, the socket was covered with glue and left to solidify. Without glue, the port would probably last about a month because of the weakened board from the last tearing out. After solidifying the glue is a protection from tearing out and lets us enjoy a fully working phone

Thanks Spaqin, that seems a very good translation & far better than google could do. Use of field may not be best choice but certainly descriptive enough & works for me. Have saved your translation & the images to a word doc as could be good reference archive for anyone doing same repair in the future as more repairs on mainboards are a necessity due to age of device & lack of easily found donor boards. Many thanks ...
On a second though, 'area' instead of 'fields' would be probably better.
Glad to be helpful though : )

LG G2 Bricked After Screen Change

Hi there,
My phones touch screen broken last month, I ordered a new digitizer with frame from China, I replaced broken screen carefully, then I turned on my phone, but I saw white lines on the screen.

}
Then I saw this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52414185&postcount=122 I thought it may be a kernel- digitizer incompatiblity.. I rooted my phone first time in my life, then flashed that kernel in the post, then phone is completely bricked.. now I see a black empty screen, it says "fast_boot started" etc. I googled and I saw some posts however nothing solved my problem.
I believe my phone is not bricked since it gives a response of black fastboot screen.. Can you please help me? I am a total Android noob, please don't just say "go to the download mode" tell me how to go to the download mode as well you can share links as long as they works..
I hope I can make my phone work again.
Finally, if I managed turn on my phone, can I really make the white lines disappear with software tweaks or my new touchscreen hardware is broken?
Thanks in advanced,
Eray
anyone?
I don't personally flash non stock roms, but if you read on the post with those type of roms a lot of them talk about a "JDI kernel" for the white line issue... Once again I have not personally seen it so I am not sure if that is what you have pictured, but it is worth a shot... Go to the forum where you got the rom you are on and look for a JDI kernel..
Reading your post it sounds like you had never installed a ROM until the screen issue arose with your new screen, if that's the case then redoing a ROM won't work for you as far as fixing the lines. Most people have found that issue to be permanent anyway and there is some debate on whether or not it is a flaw with the screen itself. Check my profile, I have a thread I did when I replaced my screen. It covered where I got it from and had a link for a great how two on youtube. If you get the date one it'll be a lot and not job. Your phone isn't bricked BTW. This forum has a wealth of knowledge on how to go about anyhing you wish to do. Whether it is to fix an issue or tweak to your hearts content. The search tool is your friend. Feel free to scroll my posts via my profile too. A while back I helped someone and covered a lot of different steps. If that doesn't get you any where let me know and I will see what I can dig up
Sent from Wolfman Jack's PA VS980
I had the same problem last night. The solution is:
do you see that little tongue at the bottom of the screen full with resistant?
That little thing is sort cutted by the white antenna connetor when you put it together.
