Hi Guys,
As you may have read from previous posts, TomTom & I have had a very stormy relationship! Add to that huge memory leak problems on my XDA IIi & I was sure that Nav5 was going to get the usual thumbs down, but after removing the O2 Active UI by following the instuctions here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18963
(didn't even need a hard re-set!!! my memory is fine now.
Loaded Nav 5 onto my unit from update CD
Then loaded all the maps from the 6 CDs (Hmm, that bit is still very naff but better than with Nav3), they won't quite fit onto 2 1gb SDs, & activated the free trial of TT Plus.
Then I drove from Sudbury, Suffolk to Dover via London, using the GB map, then on to Belfort, France (near Swiss & German borders) I always go via Luxembourg to avoid the french tolls. put in Belfort and Main Roads of EU kicked in from main app. it immediately asked if I wanted to avoid the toll roads, clicked yes & lo & behold it found my tried & tested route! Impressed! What's more it din't crash once
But when you get an incoming call it cuts of your GPS connection but then (most of the time) it re-establishes it (tho sometimes you have to re-configure, but that's now a lot easier if you use a TT receiver)
Last night used it all the way to Roskilde, Denmark, tonight we're off to Kristiansand, Norway. So far so, very, good!!!!
See! When something's right I big it up! I don't only whinge about the negative bits!!!
So far it's a big well done to TomTom for this version (XDA IIi-wise anyway)
Same here matey. Recently installed TT5 with GB maps only onto my XDA 2. No problems at all, connects within 20secs, never crashed yet and even works when receiving calls on my bt headset. GPS doesn't disconnect and when I hang up, it shows me at the correct location.
GENIUS
ive got an XDA2i and my TT5 seems to crash more often than not. especially when searching for POIs (ie take me to nearest petrol station... CRASH)
i admit i am using a hooky version, but if it's this bad i wont be buying it! (which i intended to)
im running an XDA2i with corporate install (no O2 Active UI) and an aftermarket bluetooth GPS.
its also annoying that TT5 disables bluetooth when you quit, and its v. awkward to re-enable it whilst driving (its a little button afterall...)
I'm using a hooky version too. TT5 £10 from ebay!!! Works like a dream. I've got an XDA II, removed 02 Active UI.
Bluetooth doesn't disconnect when TT5 is ended. I must be so lucky!!

I'be got a ~5mb patch which will fix this problem, EVERY time I turned on certain POI's it would crash
Not any more and it seems MUCH more stable.
If you've got anywhere I can up it, let me know.

Jim, there is no way of knowing what bugs can arise when using patched/cracked software. I never use bluetooth gps either since I got an xda because I see so many problems, also if its for car use only I think a wired gps is more practical/reliable.
@ PC_Arcade:
You could always post the patch here, but if not then you could always PM me with the patch, it would be HIGHLY Appreciated!!!!!
Cheers!!!!!!!
OK, I've PM'd you the patch
Please could you upload it to the ftp for me (I'm @ work and I can't use FTP) so it can be linked here?

...TomTom5 is known to have a lot of bugs, even for legit users. I've had every version of TomTom and every major release sucks till they patch it..
@ PC_Arcade:
If the patch is too large for PM, you could always email me!
Thanks again in advance!
Cheers!!!
it's just over 5mb, too big for hotmail too IIRC

Just for the record I am a legit user and I like TomTom 5 just for one reason and that is the street signing, its like somebody is holding the sign out for you to read as you go along, neat.
OK, the patch is here
I have been totally unable to upload it onto the ftp here
Could someone please move it to there so I can change the link?
Thanks VERY much for the patch Arcade, have yet to test it, but I'm sure it will help. Installed it into the "2577" folder, is that correct? Its the only one with "ttn.cab" in it.
On a seperate note I want to install TomTom on the main memory of my XDA, with the maps still on SD card. I've heard this helps. Anyone know exactly which folders I need to copy to memory? Is it all, except maps? How will TTN know to look on the SD card for the maps though ?
Chop - thanks for success story, I brought the XDA and TTN5 expecially for a road trip around europe in a months time. Although I'm taking paper maps for backup, I was hoping I would be able to rely on TTN5. Don't think thats gonna happen now.

Not quite, you need to copy all the files in the rar over then run the .cab file. which will re-install TTN5
For safety's sake it might be work backing up your data.chk file as well.

The easiest way is to reinstall tomtom using the patch I posted and just install it to main memory, it will automatically use the maps on the card
All I have on the storage card is the GB map directory and an empty tomtom directory, hope that helps

TTN5 is fantastic, I can't remember how I lived without it
It's incredibly stable now too, although I did have to create a blank directory called tomtom on the SD card to get 7 digit postcodes to work
to make the postcodes work you need to put the file in a folder called zip in the root of the sd card.
Hi all
Could you tell me which file i have to put in the ZIP folder on the SD card?
@ pc_arcade : Is it the poi.dat file that is patched or the ttn.cab ?
Will it only work for GB map or for all maps ?

It's the content of the cab file that contains the patched files
AFAIK it works for all maps, can anyone confirm?
Can you tell me how to get full (7 didget) postcode working please ?????
I have been interested in getting a PDA phone for a while but wanted to wait till I could get one with SatNav built in.
I went to the Orange shop and they said that the SPV M700 (aka HTC p3600) was the one for me, but when I went back for a second look another guy said it did not have GPS and I would have to buy a module etc....so he really put me off.
Now I learn that Orange has the GPS module working out of the box, so that you can install tomtom and it works!!
The question I have now is does the Trinity work well with Skype over a wireless and/or 3G network? As this is another consideration for me..
Thanks for being gentle
Hi....I have not had a lot of experiance with Skype --- but the Trinity does have a powerful processor that should hold up. Until the next generation of HTC devices come out.
As for GPS -- if it is a P3600 it should have GPS -- but it may not be ACTIVATED. That is easily resolved by upgraqding the ROM. I have TomTom 6 working on mine....the GPS receiver is not 100% accurate -- but good enough. The device is a small size and packs a lot in it.
Hope this helps you.
I have the m700, and it does have GPS. It is certainly not mentioned on the orange site, or on the box, and the first time you see it mentioned is in the instruction book
You don't need to activate it or upgrade the ROM. It is hidden, and there are no icons to press to know it is there, but all you do is set the sat-nav/gps software to look at 'com 9' and it gets data from the gps chip.
I use it with TomTom 6 and it is great. It even picks up satelites while in a building, which is not something my other units ever did.
I don't use skype, but if you download SJphone from www.sjlabs.com , then you can use the device for VOIP, and it works well over WiFi. And the software is free.
Thanks for the quick replies, they have given me confidence to go ahead with getting the M700, perhaps even tomorrow!!
You would think that SatNav/GPS is a feature to be advertised!
Anyway, the "Com 9" is a good tip, as I am sure it will save me a headache when trying out tomtom, thanks PaulusUK
Hi All
I have installed TomTom5 to my SPV3100, with Wm6,
With the bluetooth GPS paired, i cant get it to be recognised by Tomtom.
In TT, the ports settins always show as 3 or 7, chnaging ports in the GPS External settings still doesnt help or connect.
Can someone help please, ive de-install TT and reinstalled. Ive installed to mem card.
Thanks
Rich

Try searching on here for GPS Test, it will scan all available ports and report back exactly what settings your GPS is using. Plug these into TomTom and all should be good to go.
Hey guys, sorry i didnt get back sooner. tad busy lately.
@YAMILA
Ive the SPV3100 smartfone running WM6

Dear Forummembers,
I've been a member of this forum for a long time now.
Have been using much of you idea's, programs and problem solving topics!
I am really grateful to everybody who shared and is sharing their knowledge!
My contract with my telecompany is about to expire! For now im using an old Sony-ericsson as a cellphone!
I need some advise for my touch(elf). It has been my buddy for a long time now and i dont want to put him back in his box he came in.
My idea is to use my wonderfull elf for TomTom, music and video..
but i dont know where to start!
I can just turn the phone off or do you guys/girls have other options?
maybe some members already are using their elf for what i want to...
Who can help me out and give me some advise?
Cheers!
Ever since my problem with the GSM radio started I've been using it as a pocketpc only; I've got my sim card in another phone and turned the Touch's phone off, and it works great as a pocketpc. The battery lasts a lot longer too.
you can use your elf as a media manager?
dump all the photos and music into it.
or make into a picture frame?
did you ever thought about cooking an only picture frame rom??
Hello everybody, i am french and i think my English is quite bad but .....
I have a HTC HD MINI
I have tried to install cyanogene android but after i reinstall windows mobile 6.5, GPS dont fix anything. I have tried a lot of things, like hard reset, modifications of parameters (COM 0.....7 anf 4800 ....57600....) but nothing. TOMTOM 7 told me 'are u in a batilment.?".
I am so disappointed !!!!!
Do u have any suggestion??
Thanks
You have to install Android again, go to options, activate the GPS and then install Windows again.
Did you Download (upgrade) satellites position in windows mobile??!!
Every 7 days you should do this for better calibration!!
GPS Problem
Hi friends.
My friend has a HD mini (he bought it in 14 days before) and he has a same problem with gps.
the device is old (used- second hand) (sry for bad english). and when bought it, rapidly he installed nand!!!
now, he came back too windows and he sees the GPS nothing work. he didn't test it before installing nand.
I did every thing what I knew about GPS problems may appear after coming back to windows. (like, turn on GPS options in android and come back to win) but its GPS don't work.
Has been GPS corrupted?

Hi Morty.
If I understand correctly ....
I do not think GPS is Dead. Only believe, is blocked. I noticed that there are some releases Android ROMs, which block the GPS.
Some evidence of mini hd and hd2 I have demonstrated this.
The only advice I can give you (what I have written in other threads) is to go back to WM6.5. From here to try some release Android sd (I forget which I used on hd mini) obviously do not install the one you have already tried. I hope I was clear and helpful.
Best regards.

Hi, especial thanks to M O R T Y , this post is about me, I want to add these two point: first that I used the exactly version which the former owner used before (Update cm 7.2.0 RC0 photonic KANG signed) and second that in W.M 6.5 the icon that shows GPS is activated , is shown while my device not only isn't able to orientate me but it can't download updates correctly as well, it starts downloading till download bar becomes 100% and then this message appears :
<<Data Activitation failed
Location setting must be on so that downloading satellites can be used to speed up GPS startup time >>
of course now I am using SAVVAS.
sorry for my poor English.
thanks a lot
mine not working either
I flashed HD Mini to CM2.7, GPS and Wi-Fi are not working. It seems to be that the driver can't be loaded correctly.
1. reinstall CM and go to settings > location, and check "use GPS satellites" and turn off phone
2. restart in bootloader volume down + power and reinstall WM
Starting Android from SD Card and turning on GPS there should work too. So you dont need to flash it again.
