[REF] Contact Managers - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Contact Managers
I thought it would be good to have a thread on the different Contact Managers available, what people use and why.
This is not a 'help thread' - please see the relevant thread for help
Personally i have been using the Windows built in one, but have recently moved to Resco Contact Manager.
If everyone could say (and link to) what they recommend it would be greatly appreciated
Resco - Easy to use, nice large finger friendly operation, sensitivity can be a issue.

I recommend using the iContact over Resco due to the fact the Resco Contact Manager eats more RAM.
iContact = Around 515 KB
Resco Contact Manager = Around 1257 KB

This thread sure is a good idea! Will you manage a list in the first post? Maybe we can add how we use our Contact Managers, so the first post reference offers a best practice as well?
I still use the standard Contact Manager, but I'll try iContact Burt Edition soon, probably map it to double press green button with AE Button Plus and integrate it in TF3D with SSMaPa.

PocketCM Contact is excelent !!!! absolutly FREE and skinable

And Yota Contacts. Original apllication by HTC for WIMAX 4G Yota Phone

I tried iContact & found it good, but I didn't use it for long as I was interested in testing other contact managers.
So I tried Yota & whilst it had a wonderful interface, it caused me loads of problems (perhaps due to conflicts with other stuff on my phone ?) & ate too much memory.
Then I tried Resco's COntact Manager & am still plying around with it.
I like the look of it's interface but don't like it handling incoming calls. I feel TF3D does the job perfectly & looks far better. So I've basically disabled anything other than the simple contact functions, which is all I really need, just a 'catalogue' of contacts & no extra frills.
Will have to wait until the final gets released to see whether I'll keep it.
I was a bit confused about the iContact versions.
Can anyone enumerate the basic details of each version so I can see which one may be best for me ?

Taskbar, like in windows: possible?

Is is possible to have a taskbar, showing which programs are currently running, like in windows xp for example? Having to go to the 'memory' panel and manually closing application from there is getting old...
TIA!
Please try MagicButton. A good task manager in WM5.0
I recommend the use of SmallMenu Plus (they should start a referral program!).

Task manager and neat launcher in one.
Otherwise, apps like Wisbar and the free variants can show running apps in the taskbar at the top. Depending on how many apps you run, that can be useful.
V
I think he meant WinXP Taskbar showing *running application*.
Anyway, you can do that using .. er.. what's the name.. Wisbar? It is a skining program for your top Start bar, so you can remove all other icons, and put in the option of displaying icons for all running programs.

Well, we have something for that as well and it is free, Magic Button: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
But as Vijay showed, Small Menu also has an option of showing and closing apps as well. So it is a matter of preference on the user.
Me, I use both. I use Small Menu to launch apps, and use Magic Button to see what I have running in the background on the taskbar.
Magic button is cooooooooooooooooooooool
I agree - Magic Button is the first thing I install...
Cheers,
Steve.
You can also try a True Toolbar http://www.valksoft.com/TrueToolbar.html
It renders the running apps on the lower bar (toolbar) on the today screen. Actually this is and its disatvantage (to some extend) as if you switch to some app, the today screen is gone and the info for runnign aps as well...
Also for task swithcing you can consider the PQz - this is especially useful if you are using keyboard and also has many usefull features like allowing you to use CTRL, ALT, defining system wide shortcuts, speed dial shortcuts, etc ... here is the link: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/DOC/index_e.htm There is info about this tool on other topics in the forum ...

Yes you can have alt-tab changing! And more...
ABSOLUTELY: there's an AWESOME free app called PQzII - search for it here and you'll find a whole trhead. It does the alt-tab taskbar thing u want, exactly as you'd expect, and SO much more. I paypalled the author despite it being free cos it's so awesome!

Are you using the pxed file or the unpxed file on your Universal? I extracted both files OFF the folder, how come they have different file sizes? What is the difference between the two?

Hi,
I'm a proud Scoter owner (Mitac Mio A701), so no Universal here. Now as far as UPX, UPX is a compression routine. It is popular at Buzzdev.net. The concept behind it is great, it allows compressed code to be executed directly w/o the need for an external decompression routine, it is incorporated into each file. This has 2 good effects. the first, is that the files are smaller, the second is that since the DOC is slooow, the CPU can load and decompress a UPX'd file faster than loading up an uncompressed file. Buzz and others know quite a bit more than myself on the subject.

Jason

[New Release 10-14-2007: Orange Call History icons] Marshall DialPad Skin 0.19

UPDATE: October, 14th 2007 - Call History icons available for the Orange DialPad Skin
UPDATE: September, 21st 2007 - A new DialPad skin is available: Touch
Hi guys!
First post form me in this forum! I have to say that it'is much time I've been reading this forum who is a mile stone for Pocket PC's world.
However, I would like to share with you my work on Windows Mobile phone skins.
I made a set of DialPad skins based on a modded Mitac eDealer. The good thing is that the Smart Dialer feature works perfectly also in WM5 AKU 3.5 and is very easy to use onehanded.
But, let's pictures talk for me...

I modified the Mitac original dialer (eDialer) changing the buttons size and position.
After that I started creating the images (background, buttons etc...). That images are referenced in HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin.
It's a very good idea to create an application to easly design new skins. Let me know.

You are right. I think that the link changes for every session.
Since ShareBig doesn't satisfy my needs for a mirror, I'm trying to move all my skins to another one (still searching one) which is more simple and that don't delete the files if they are not downloaded for long time.

[Come on!] Develope a photodial today plugin! Please!

Hi there.
I ahve tried many different soulutions to get a todayplugin working on UL or else that can:
- use photos from Outlook contacts
- speeddial with single tap
- choose sms, call, email
- easy apllying contacts
I only found:
- makecall.exe = difficult to customize and need of own made icons
- vjphone = also difficult to customize
- dialtab.cab = floating arround - seems to be part of SPB Mobile shell - very easy! great! BUT not freeware. shows "trial expired"
So how difficult can it be for some of you guys out here to create a plugin that works 100% ???
Hope someone will join this project. I WILL try everything. But i´m not a programmer!
THANKS for helping!

i don´t have it installed. it is cooked in... and not the complete one. BUT only a selfmade cab for ONLY the photodialpart on today.
New App Should Be Made
While I like and use the Face Contacts photo dial, I think thats the name, I too think a new app should be created. When the Diamond came out, it opened up a whole new level to today plugs for us WM users. The functionality of the photo dialer plug on that device is leaps ahead of other software. Its functional, and by god its beautiful.
I cant wait to see these plugs start getting ported over for our devices. Until then , I hope one of you geni's on here make something to hold us over. Actually, knowing how most of you all operate, you'll make something that puts the Diamonds Contact Plug to shame!!!
this is what you need!
testtodayplugin.cab

I was also searching for this kind of software for a long time. I would say, I tried everythig.
Till now the best solution was htc home and the cube, they act just how i would suppose and like it.
I would like to add something to this request: make it flexible, so you can specify something like x rows and y columns on your screen, I don't like those one-line plugins.
For the meanwhile I would really really love to see a tool to convert contact-pictures to icos.
Hey,
I second this request!
Will pay a good donation for a good quality plug-in.
Requirements:
1. Adjustable contact grid eg. 3x3, 4x4, 5x5
2. Photos pulled from outlook database.
3. Skinable.
4. Low memory footprint.
Pleeeeeeze!
Or This?
I saw this one posted earlier today.

It's not freeware, but $6.95 isn't bad.

Contacts app like TouchFLOO 3D

I like TouchFLOO 3D, except when I can see all contacts. Its classic WM. Im looking for some app, whitch has look TF3D.

Pretty neat I must say! Too bad it's in german and not the OS language (or english). Also... it's a fullscreen app and doesn't integrate with the TouchFLO 3D, which is a bad thing imo. Would be great if you could fire the app up from the "Contacts" tab from TouchFLO 3D...
yeah, I want use contacts app from TF3D. I found this app Sunnysoft Contacts http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=296
and maybe this app works on Diamond and Raphael right from TF3D
Matrix44
Hi,
Using PCM contact with luckymat skin... Perfect with my Diamond
Have a look here http://www.actualitemobile.com/forum/index.php/topic,3644.0.html
looks well. Is it ENG version ?
Yes, it is... The french langage must be installed in case
Then, to do even better, you can assign the "contact" softkey of your Contact Tab in TF3D to PCM using SSMAPA.
Try iContact and be sure to download the VGA version.
Works and looks great, cool "flicking" effect.
I assigned it to a softbuttom and im very pleased with it Using regedit.
And the coolest part is that its freeee.
I'm interested too in replacing the old contact application from Windows Mobile !
But PocketCM does too may things.
I just want a contact manager more user friendly.
So where can I find IContact, I seen that there is a Burt Edition. But is this the original version ?
Thank you very much !

Ty for that tip. Downloaded it and its AWSOME!
But one question for anyone that might know the answer.
Is there ANY way i can change so when i pressing View all contzcts in tf3d that its using Icontacts insted of the normal contacts list?
Cause that would truly make this usefull.
The best app for contact
(i test several contact manager)
icontact is the best
with so many setting
x closing
fast opening and ....
this skin looks realy well, but has someone the same skin with color combination black - green (like TouchFLOO) ?
Thx,
Matrix44
Anyone knows how to add a TF3D (TouchFlo 3D) shortcut ? I'd like to replace "Favorite Contacts" with this iContact app
Is that possible ? I have TF3D Config but it doesn't let me choose to get another application in the menu...

I thought that this app replaces only shorcut "All Contacts" in folder "Favorite Contacts" and Favorite Contacts will remain.

+1
That would be top notch. Having iContact loading instead of Favorite Contacts of the TF3D. Or maybe a way to keep the Fav Contacts, and add a new "iContacts" tab in the TF3D slide menu...

Post Your Dialer

i'm dedicating this thread to developers and testers of dialers. I have always been interested in finding out how to take a regular dialer and replace the picture or why havent they made a dialer which is fully compatible and not to mention one where I can easily change the color scheme. For example the Paulya dialers dont work and bog down my Tytn alas I am impressed with the creativity that pours into making these fine gems. So post your dialer on this thread and make sure to point to where you got it from. thanks

If this continues well, I say it should, being it's a collection of skins/themes.

If you have a Touch [Vogue], look here:

Thanks TheChampJT for that link, gonna be useful to skin my dialer!
This is a skin I've made for Paul De Groots fantastic Minimal Dialer.
See this thread for more info : iPhdyle 1.0 for Minimal Dialer
To install :
- Download and install this iPhdyle Theme + Dialer CAB file.
- Reboot your device, and changes should be active when you dial a number.
- Enjoy !
( Note : Currently QVGA Only, Doesn't play well with the new redialer & smartdial extensions. Works perfectly on TyTn II/ Kaiser)

Heres a skin I made for the Minimal DIALER on my Sprint Touch.
sometimes when I upload these dialers everything works but the send button and I bet this is because of compatibility. I like this one
