Not sure what is going on with this but on my HD I've somehow got the qwerty and half qwerty keyboards stuck so that they only input numbers and symbols.
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get letters back available, as the 123/ABC button is "greyed out"/disabled somehow.
Help me Obi wan kenobi - you're my only hope....
I bet you enabled T9 in HD tweak.....this problem gets reported here every day or two....
Just disable it again, soft-reset and yo are back in business...
You're absolutely right, thanks. Don't know how:
1) I managed to turn that on without realising.
2) I didn't find any of the other threads about it!
My bad, sorry, but thanks for the help.
that answer did help me too a lot !
and that was the only thread i found about it too

Hi,
Is there any way to DISABLE the T9 mode permanently?
I really hate T9
Is there any registry key or something for this?
Thanks.
I am having the exact same problem. (16 button version touch dual btw)
I am sure the is a reg setting that will do it, but so far all I have managed to do is either disable HTC's keyboard software or jam the buttons in numerical mode.
Im fairly certain that someone who knows their way around the wm6 registry could find a fix.

I thought when you turn it off on the soft keyboard it stayed off?
Not really, it reactivates itself all the time.
I found here a CAB File which claims to do this job, but i wasn't able to give it a try. So here it is, but keep it in mind: Use it at your own risk.
we
I suspect thats the cab that jammed my keypad in numeric mode.
I highly reccomend you do not run this on a 16 key touch dual
Tja, testet, og det den gjør er å slå av alt annet enn nummer. Med andre ord nesten verre enn xT9
Oh, sorry...wrong language
What I wrote was "I just tested, and all it does on my 16 key is to turn off anything but number input. So, in other words it's almost worse... "

I am spending time getting to know the reg on the dual, hopefully will find a fix, but as I said - this is probably trivial for someone who knows what they are doing.
any news on this topic?
any updates ?
Hard reset will help you
There is one little cab on HTC.com, thats disable xT9

My friend is unhappy with the Android touch keyboard, and he discovered that switching the input language to Chinese replaces it with the HTC TouchInput. Does anyone know if it's currently possible to replace the Android touch keyboard with HTC's version without switching the language? I'm attaching a screenshot that he took of it. Thanks.
Why? Switching the input doesn't affect the usage at all. You get the bonus of inputting Chinese, and lose nothing.

Oh, would you happen to be able to tell me where to get it? My friend doesn't remember since he did it when he first got his G1.

Packed it into an update.zip for easy installation and fixed a bug involving force close. New thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512530
So updated to 1.6
Idk why i just did
i figured i dont have any roms on my mytouch or its not even rooted so everything should work fine
After the update finished installing, i got an error in the home screen about touch input, it kept popping up every minute or so, the same message, and when i would try to text the keyboard wouldn't pop up, i would get that same error, so i had to disable touch input from the settings, now it works and i dont got errors
btw this is the error i got
Sorry!
The application Touch Input (Process com.htc.android.htcime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try again
but is there anyway around this
i really liked the touch input keyboard because of the fact you could add your own words to the prediction list and you cant do that with Touch Pal
thanks
oops wrong post
I'm thinkin try a wipe or maybe reinstall if the data wipe don't work. Are you sure its for the MT3G and not the G1? I'm not sure yet if there is a difference. I'm just throwin some ideas out there.

I have read that other people with 1.6 have been having the same problem with the HTC keyboard. So I think you are out of luck there, until HTC updates their sense software to 1.6 and somebody pulls the keyboard off their updated phone and puts it online.
The stock keyboard lets you add words to the prediction list. Also this softkeyboard will let you do so as well, and it should work on 1.6.

No, there are two. The HTC Keyboard for Donut was made available today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
And the other keyboard I mentioned definitely has the phone keypad and lets you add words to the prediciton list. I think it works for 1.6, not sure really...

I downloaded a CAB for SWYPE for TMObile HD2. Once it installed and did a soft reset, it told me my Password on key lock was wrong (when it wasn't). Had to a hard reset. Got everything working again. Reinstalled SWYPE again, same result. It seems to corrupt the password. Anyone else have the same problem? Could it be because my phone isn't with TMobile?

This has just happened to me a couple of minutes ago !!!!
My phone is on T-Mobile HD2 - although I no longer have a T-Mobile ROM installed !!
Looks like a full rebuild for me as well
Please post a resolution if you find one!!!!
Hard Reset is your answer.
There are literally loads of threads about the issues of installing TMOUS Swype on a non-TMOUS HD2. A quick search would have saved you from the pain.
Just for fun
Well in my opinion swype is not the option u need to own, i tried it several times but takes a longer time to write what u want, so it's easier to use the regular keyboard. I think it's just for fun!

you've got to be kidding..right?. swype is the best thing ever. maybe its you who just cant get to grips with it......its defo not "just for fun" either. i'd be lost without it nowadays.......
Just search for WVGA SWYPE v.2 for SAMSUNG,Im using it for the last 2 months its I should say one of the most incredible app I ever used, its a great joy to '"type"on this board, just read the tutotrial, you can do that by tapping and holding the Swype logo on the buttom left of the keybord.
I myself suffered from previous versions and had to HR couple of times but with this no problem at all.

I 2nd that,
its only slow if you're not familiar with a qwerty kbrd or have sticky thumbs (me jokes!).
cant see how... search... press... lift... can be quicker than sliding from letter to letter if you know the layout, imho?

LOL, yeah, having sticky fingers is the only bug. i'd be devo if i had to go back to the "old" way of texting........
Wait, why are you trying to install swype???
I have a Tmou Leo and I never had to install anything. It was already on my phone, i just had to turn on the option for it. Granted, it was a pain in the ass to actually find; actually found it by accident.
Anyway, so yeah... why?
P.S.
Swype FTW

Hi,
I am a user of DesireZ for three months, after 2 years with G1, and so far I found it...even depressing (sic!), that the keyboard has no numbers row but only the combination of Fn + key.
How do you find it ? Any extra method of typing IP numbers for example ? or numbers with spaces e.g. +48 123 456 789 ? Please tell I me I get used to use it
Solution for me would be, and this is a question, there is a way to map two programmable keys to "space" and "comma". Possible ?
Cheers,
Whatlogin
I was a migrant from the g1 as well and found it hard to get used to at first. It isn't all that bad though considering you can press the fn key twice in succession and then the top row will work as a numbers row rather than letters. Apart from that, I don't have a solution sorry
I think I remember someone posting an apk in here that would show numbers row at the bottom of a screen as soon as you'd pulled out the keyboard in 'txt writing mode'. Mind you, it was way back in dec or jan... Try search?
I used to have it but it didn't work for me as I seem to remember it required root (I don't have that yet)
See if you find it, good luck
edit: I did find the file in my fone (!)
I take no credit for it nor responsibility whatsoever!!!
Sadly, I do not know who made that either (to credit them) but here it is...
good luck
Wow! TA for replies.
@HAK Devil: I know, but permanent Fn switch the "space" to XT9 and "." to ":"
@wolek76: this is exactly something that could sort out my needs. I should have been looking for G2 rather than DesireZ
Anyway - here is the thread regarding to whole idea and developer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813742
I haven't have a chance to have it working yet - but good to know I am not alone
Regards,
Whatlogin
You should keep your G1 as a backup phone incase the DZ goes wrong and you end up having to send it back for repairs. After 7 months the touchscreen on my old DZ kept sticking in one particular place and HTCs idea of "fixing it" was to kill 1/3 o fthe touchscreen, which was really annoying so after a month of heavy duty legal pressure (thanks to my partner), they coughed up a replacement.
Short version: I wouldn't ditch the rock solid G1 if I were you, it'll one day come in handy.
Hey I tried installing this and it wouldn't show up at all. Enabled it in keyboard settings, fixed permissions; nothing worked.
Has anybody gotten this to work? And have there been any updates on it?
One of the biggest probs I've had with this phone was the 5th number row. You do eventually get used to it, for the most part lol.
What keys did you have in mind for the swap?
Also, I think you may need root for this method to work. Are you rooted?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Even my old Nokia E70 had better keyboard than Vision/Desire Z has. That is so sad :-(

It did not work with me as well, thought when it got updated to 2.3.3 it actually started working no problem. Still there is a problem with Fn and 'shift' keys. I have no root and I haven't change anything to my phone apart from allowing installations from other sources.

Hi,
I am not rooted and as I mentioned - this does not work yet well. Check out also the thread I listed above. It is still being under development.
The two keys I was thinking about was the programmable keys that can be used for apps and so on.
I know I will get used to it. The easiest is type everything and come back to paste special symbols I guess like "ftp19216811://..." ha ha Maybe HTC want to make people stop writing like U2, sk8 is gr8, 4me and use proper language
Cheers!
