Niggly Programs Tab Issue - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hi all,
Keep having a problem within the "Programs" tab in TF3d ... in that once in a while, I get an additional blank program icon appear on a tenth row ... and even ifI assign a shortcut to this icon, it does nothing. I have in the past got rid of this by hard resetting - but wondering if there is an easier way of preventing/curing this issue.
I know it's not a big deal and is something I can live with but any help will be greatly appreciated
Have included a pic to show what I mean

I had this once, and found an extra key under this registry entry:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\
Normal operation would have keys numbered 0 through 17. I had an extra one numbered 100, but yours might be some other number. You can delete the extra key (just don't delete any of those from 0 to 17). Slide off the programs tab and back to it, and I think it should disappear.
Hope this helps,
Martin

Excellent - worked a treat Thank you very much!!!!!

thanks
yes , I thank you also. Very annoying it was indeed.

I'd like a small change in the today screen

Hi all,
I am aware of different task-managers being able to change the today screen. But I could not find the following.
In the today screen at the botton right there are three icons, "battery level", "wireless manager" and "screen turning".
I found a .cab-file to delete the battery from there, are there also .cab-files to delete the other two ? Or can I maybe do this by registry changes ?
Also the date is visible in my today screen, as I like to have it handy. But (mostly in landscape mode) I dislike the whole line to be empty. Would it be possible to displace the mentioned icons to the top of the screen, to be in line with the date. As I loose valuable real-estate on the date (to the right) and the icons (on the left).
Any ideas ?
Regards,
Ruud
To hide screen rotate icon:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Service\ScreenRotate
ShowIcon value change to 0
Default: 1
Changed: 0
Don't know the answer to the other questions, but switching wireless icon of could be simular, just search for showicon in your registry.
For showing battery & wireless in the topbar I use SPB gprs monitor. It combines battery & wireless (usage & connection) in one (position adjustable) icon.
Regards, M
Hi oltp.
works a charm, thanks.
I tried to take away the wireless manager with all different tricks, but could not manage. There is no ShowIcon DWord in there and adding it does not change anything either.
Actually I do not mind it being available, but i'd rather have it (and the wireless manager) in the same height of the screen where the Date is. That would definitely be a solution to save space.
I tried the Order DWord, but to no avail.
Anybody has any additional ideas ?
Regards,
Ruud
Search the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr and change the DWORD Keep to 0, soft-reset and voila !!!
Apparently it's on the wiki as well
Hi oltp,
perfect, apperently I was not trying enough. The icons are all gone and the real estate is used by other today screen things, very nice, THANKS.
Should anybody know how to put the icons in the "date-bar", please tell me, if not I am happy already.
thanks again,
Ruud
I set the Wireless Manager KEEP Dword to "0" , the icon does disappear but the "Fn+Right->" giving the wireless manager on/off menu also stops working. Do others have the same issue? I tried add a "ShowIcon" Dword to the registry but unfortunately it does not work... Any advice on this? Thanks.
Hi stanip,
looks like I was confirming happyness too early.
Yes, it is the same like with You, Fn-Right arrow will enter into the Wireless Manager menue, but all looks to be switched off, the screen-buttons do no work anymore and I cannot enter the phone-settings from there. (Wifi and BT settings can be entered)
Of course that's not so nice a price for getting that real estate.
Any better ideas would be appreciated.

Problem with hacks working on US MDA...help

Hi,
New here. I have been learning a lot from everyone here, Thanks!
I seem to have a problem though.... Every Hack so far that I try to implement won't work. Here are 2 examples:
Change Reg Keys for Left Soft button. I want it to point to my Agenda Fussion Calender instead of the Windows calender. So I change the Key to point to the AF exe location, being very careful to leave "" and to type path in precisely. I save the change and soft reset the device to see if it works...NOPE....When I go back into the registry to see what happened, the registry key is changed back to point to the microsoft calender. I have even closed the reg editor and reopend to check the change before the soft reset. Before the re-set my change is still there, but not after....
I have tried both PHMRegedit and TascalRegedit.
I have a US version of the MDA with ROM version# 2.26.10.2 WWE
Next problem I wanted to stop the system tray from showing up. So I removed the shortcut for Init_Tray from the startup menu....Well the tray still shows up. Now looking in the startup menu the shortcut is no longer there, but it still launches the tray!
What Am I doing wrong here? I see people making these same hacks and they work for them.
A little background on me. I have been entrenched in computers since 1983. Doing my share of programming (though nothing since I was kid...). I have been using pocket pcs for the last 2 years. With Toshiba 740's and e800's. So I am capable of doing this stuff. But for some reason I can't get these things to work...
Any help? Sorry for being so long winded
on your registry problem.. after changing the value manually, let the phone sleep or just sit there for a few minutes before soft resetting.. There is a delay write to the registry...
Thanks ShogunMark
I need to be more patient. I did this just before I read your reply...The hack for the soft button is now working the way I want. Now to get rid of the bottom system tray.
Thanks again!!
im not sure if you can exactly get rid of the system try completely in WM5.. however i could be wrong... i think at most you can only get rid of the icons in it.. but it does prove very useful for placing shortcuts..

Enlarge your today screen (how to remove the bottom menu bars)

If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

[REQ] TFL3D Program Launcher Bug

Hi all,
On my Diamond, I've recently added a few new programs. For some reason, it looks like Google Maps added itself to my Program Launcher tab, but because all the buttons were occupied at the time, it created another button, so now I have 19 buttons in my program launcher tab instead of 18.
Any idea how I can delete this extra button? Failing that, any idea how I can add another 2 so I least I have another complete row of buttons?
I've attached a screen shot to show what I mean.
I've scoured google and the forums for answers but couldn't find any. Many apologies if this problem is solved elsewhere and I just couldn't find it.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.
rich.
PS : Many thanks for an awesome forum.
Same thing happened to me before. For me if you used TF3D Config and clear the extra button then do a soft-reset. If that doesn't work try removing all apps from the menu then one by one add them back in order until you add one to the extra one. Then another button will appear add one in it and if it doesn't make and extra one again, do it again, but this time with 2 extra buttons.
Thanks for your help, but I've just managed to solve it.
In the registry,
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\
There was an extra entry '100' as well as the standard 0-17, I deleted it, did a soft reset and the extra button was gone.

Locked Items in Program Tab

Hi all,
In the program tab, there are few items were locked, can not be removed. Anybody can enlight us how to unlock these items, I don't use that few items often, I'd rather change something using more often. Please refer to the screen captured. Thanks!
Second Part of my first post.... ahem.... only post..... ahem....
Hope this helps. I would backup the Registry/or those keys first incase you want to get them back if you delete them.

What is IDEAS BTW?
It's a bit of registry editing I'm afraid..... also have a look here...

M.
Also, can i just ask what battery icon is that? Does it work well on the D2?
Thanks
I just did this today.
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/ProgramLauncher/
The Reg Folders correspond to the shortcut location. 0 = first (Home) and so on.
Change "IsReadOnly" from 1 to 0
Hi,
and nobody knows how to go further then 19 applications?
i would had appreciated that HTC implemented , a customizable
multi-pages/tabs programs list, sliding from page 1 to 2 etc with a finger gesture.
19 is not enough for me and pi8 installation created at least 8 entries(task, calendar...) in the "standard" programs list , making me scrolling uselessly down
thanks

What a great forum!
Hi Guys,
That's a great solution to ged rid of the useless tabs. Thanks a lot!
Is there a chance to put Folders/Directories in the Start Menu? This would be even better.
Before on my Kaiser I had MortButtons and for example a tab for Internet applications, one for games, one for tools, etc.
I miss this...

Does Clicking on the Start button pull up the programs? That would be the programs tab. If you are looking for the programs tab on the bottom of TF3D well it is not there. You can do a reg edit to enable it down in the tabs but it does nothing. You cannot add, edit, or launch an app from it. Sorry.
In ProgramLauncher entry, you don't forget to add a dword totalItemCount and put the max value you want (for example 30 in decimal, for 30 icons on ProgramLauncher).
If you create 31 folders in the registry, the icon appears but you can't add the program, you need to increase the totalItemCount , 35 for example.
