Guys,
Those who have installed the Touch HD Keyboard, can I ask you all some questions?
1) Where to install the keyboard? Phone or Storage Card?
2) Do you encounter some pause when keying SMS like the keyboard hang for a few seconds when in the midst of typing your SMS?
Nobody using the HD Blackstone keyboard?

1) Phone
2) If you type in rapidly then it is the dreaded "hang after multiple rapid touch inputs" on XPERIA and Touch HD described here.

I mean that because I am not typing so fast on the on-screen keyboard I rarely encounter that problem, but if I play a game (where I am mashing the screen rapidly) I get it all the time.
Whatever you do if you are touching the screen fast at some point you will trigger the problem.

Thanks, initially I thought the problem lies on our X1 and now I know it is HTC keyboard problem.
Not sure whether the fix will resolve the problem on our X1 though it might fix the original keyboard in HTC devices.

No it is not a keyboard problem. It is a device/software problem independent of virtual keyboards. You can get this specific behaviour on the microsoft virtual keyboard, on games and every imaginable application. All you have to do is rapidly press the touch screen anywhere, if you do it very fast and consistently the device will freeze for a couple of seconds and then resume.
So once again it is not "HTC virtual keyboard" (SIP) specific. Don't get confused.

actually there is a pause caused by the install of this keyboard.
even using the hardware X1 keyboard my first letter entered will display 2nd or 3rd in my word.
so in a text message when i open the phone and start typing "windows" it will enter in "inwdows" i have to learn to wait a second before typing.

I never use the default keyboard though so not sure whether there is pause when keying any text but I was told that some users also encounter the same pause problem even using the default keyboard.
So hope that problem do not exist in the new WM6.5.

Yes I've encountered that behaviour on the "hardware" keyboard too, but how is this related to the blackstone HTC "virtual" keyboards?

Has any body else noticed a lag when entering text using the keyboard. I am getting quite quick now but it seems like the phone has trouble keeping up.
Also, a huge thank you to all the guys how work hard producing applications and ports for this forum.
Yep...must be normal for WM6
My TyTN II had the lag, My Raphael had the lag and YES, My X1 also has the lag when I first start typing messages.
I've come to expect it with WM6.x...
My text input lagged at times after I installed Touchflo 3D and had it running.
You would think that with all the things the phone can do with ease, it would not have a problem imputting text............

I Initially found a lot of lag with my X1 keyboard input but solved it by turning off 'Word Completion' - it seems the keyboard itself is not lagging but the phone trying to predict what word you are typing slows the whole thing down. I personally dont think predictive text is required with a QWERTY keyboard so I have turned it off and no lag since Can be found in Settings\Personal\Input\Word Completion\"Suggest Words When Entering Text"

I turned that off a while ago, it didn't help that much.
The only thing that seems to work for me is a soft reset.
ÅÄÖ lags also on the swedish model. When typing ÅÄÖ they can be located anywere in the text, a VERY odd bugg!
it lags really badly in SMS typing. It seems to be much better in emails and other applications. Anyone know why?
Thanks
I've noticed that the keyboard can lag sometimes, but I don;t know why.
The most annoying thing I've had was on a particular rom I flashed (I can't remember which one now) where the first letter or two lagged when entering a web address into opera/ie, so that they would appear after the 3rd letter or so. Like if I typed:
xda-developers.com
I might get
adx-developers.com
That annoyed me so much, I just flashed to another rom pretty much straight away...
Does your phones have a custom software keyboard installed like Touch HD or any other 3:rd party keyboard?
Try to disable word completetion.

My keyboard lagged with the touchHD keyboard too -very bad, when the first letter became the third or forth.
Now I use SPB Keyboard and all the lags are gone.

are you saying that if i install SPB Keyboard that it will improve typing on the slide out keyboard as well? i'm asking 'cause i'm experiencing lag on it as well
Why can't people answer the question?
Do you or don't you have any 3:rd party keyboard software installed like the Touch HD keyboard?

As emwdava already asked: Do you have a 3rd party keyboard (e.g. TouchHD Keyboard) installed?
If that's the case, try deinstalling this keyboard and see if the lags go away.
If the system is running better then and you want to have a software keyboard, I would recommend SPB Keyboard because it's good and it does not cause any lags as the TouchHD Keyboard before.
So SPB Keyboard will NOT help getting the lags away, but it is a usable keyboard that do not cause lags.
i hv the THD keyboard installed and i experience the lag too when im typing an address into opera. with both the THD keyboard and the hardware keyboard.
at first was kinda annoying but now i just wait for the cursor to move in front of the first letter before i continue typing. less than two seconds. im pretty patient
i have the issue of the lag on the hardware keyboard, i types and after few moments i see the words appear.
I have TouchIT 3.01 rom and SPB keyboard, i will try disabling auto-completition and do the other tips and see the results
i have the same issue..
i just jacks rom 1.06
anly keyboard i have installed that is not with the rom = NullKB
i have word completion disabled.
i have the same problem sort of...
I've got a swedish xperia with stock rom, itjes manila cab, fingerboard and touchpal installed, disabled auto-correction and no word proposals.
but i must say that even when I hard reset my unit the problem is still there when i multi-task (even just a few programs). but for me it only affects my swedish letters å ä and ö. never for any other letters. it's so annoying and i hope that SE or someone here could fix it... perhaps it's already fixed?
Same problem with the hardware keyboard. It lags about 1 second or similar. You can keep typing, it will catch up eventually, and it won't lose any words/letters.
The software SIP doesn't have a problem, but maybe because I type slower on that, than the hardware keyboard haha.
Same
I'm using Finger Keyboard 2, When I type with the hardware keyboard it sometimes lags behind me by about 2 words at the very start of my message then goes fine after that.
Using Finger Keyboard 2 itself is normal, but switching it on takes about 30 seconds or more sometimes, I don't know if this is common but will probably remove it if it continues because the only reason i keep it is to save sliding, otherwise it's quicker to just slide and I would have finished what i was doing in the time it takes to load.
I don't know if I'm the only one who experiences this, but I absolutely hate the feature on the keyboard where if you hold on a letter it opens the popup showing characters like 'ß ï à'
So is there a way to remove those special characters completely from the keyboard?

Too bad that's not what i asked for. I asked if there was a way to remove that functionality from the keyboard.
But its okay now cause I found a hero Rom that I get ALL texts and mms so this thread can be closed =)
I'm trying to understand why during sms or email typing I do a lot of typing errors. I saw that so many times I touch the keys on the on screen keyboard in the right place but I release it in the wrong one. So I can see there is a little movement of my hand and thinger that causes keyboard misunderstanding.
I tried a lot of tweaks but what I wantto try now is the possibility to configure the oem htc on screen keyboard to accept keys on press and not on release.
Can anyone help me finding registry tweaks about?
thank you!

It needs to accept on release because a long press has a different effect to a short one.
I know what you're saying, and I sympathize. I had problems at first, but I simply changed my typing style to suit the screen and now I'm very fast, and only make as many mistakes as I would on a real keyboard. Just get used to hitting the keyboard and lifting your finger, without moving it on the screen. It works - you just have to get used to it. It doesn't take long

Yes I know this. But testing can be a good starting point.
I can also imagine that a "new keyboard" can accept keyboard on press and change pressed keys if I don't move my finger for a long time. If I don't remember bad I already saw a keyboard that works in this way... if I press a key it writes the key, then if I don't remove the finger from that key it changes the pressed key with the additional one.
So, there is not any way to change working way?
I think the thing is that if you can't get used to the HTC keyboard, just use another SIP if a good one is available, or wait until someone makes a new one...
The one in opera mini beta 5 seems good, would be great ig they could make a similar one system-wide...

I used FingerKeyboard a lot with Blackstone but with Leo I don't like it so much... I prefer to have bigger keys and HTC sense integration with the original keyboard.
The problem to change keyboard is also this one.. you can loose some integrations.
So all of you can confirm me that original keyboard is not modificable? So there are not registry configurations?
is there any help for my request?
Hit instead of release !
I do agree with you. I have tried the keyboard on the iPhone a lot, and I don't think anyone would disagree that it is much better. And the only difference is like you say that the iPhone registers where you hit the screen, instead of where you release the screen. Fast typing means you have to move your finger sideways all the time. Can it be so hard to make a keyboard that registers hit instead of release ?
Have tried several keyboards to the LEO, including Fingerkeyoard, but they all seem to have the same problem when used on the LEO.
It's a shame since the rest of the phone is genious. Let us hope someone who is capable of modifying or rewrite a complete keyboard take the challenge.
I'm asking this just from when I was using Blackstone but it seems that developers don't like to make keyboard sensible to press and not release.
Please help us!
I know some of you might think this is a stupid question. I would like to use any on screen keyboard while the hardware keyboard is open and disable hw kb until I want to use it. Let me see if I can explain this to you why.
I am starting to like typing in landscape mode with on screen keyboard. I am getting pretty good at it and definitely think my speed is faster that way than a hardware keyboard. Have any of you tried typing in landscape for any extended length of time? I don't know about you but my fingers really start cramping and hurting because I have to hold the phone with the rest of my hands and fingers while typing with my thumbs. When the hw kb is open, this could give me more area to hold the phone a little more comfortably while using a fast software keyboard. My thumbs wouldn't be at funky downward angles to hit the keys, they would be extended straighter and upwards and might be less prone to getting crampt up and carpel tunnel.
Am I crazy to think this might be useful? Has anyone heard of it being done or an app or hack that could achieve what I'm trying to do?
I do understand where you are coming from, having big hands and fingers can suck sometimes, but I don't think its possible. I've tried to see if I could pull up the virtual landscape keyboard with the hw one open but no luck.

I'm not complaining or whining, I'm just asking for help with something that I might like to do.
to answer your question, yes, it is possible.
i just tested this on skyfire, ebuddy, and gmail. if you simply leave the keyboard in, aka don't slide the screen, and rotate the device, the screen will turn and whatever app you are using will also turn (if it supports it). then just click in the text box you want to type in again, and the onscreen keyboard will come up. I'm using better keyboard atm, so didn't test it with the HTC or any others. but i'm fairly positive that if it works with that one, it'll throw up whichever keyboard you are currently using in the same situation.

I think you missed what he was trying to say. he was asking if it's possible to use the on-screen keyboard with the physical keyboard open.
OP, here's an android tip (it works with any android phone): if you hold down the menu button with your cursor in a text field, it forces the on-screen keyboard to come up. You could try selecting a text field, then holding down the menu button.

I know about what you are explaining, that's normal usage. What I'm interested in is using the open physical keyboard as additional area to hold the phone with while in landscape and using the on screen keyboard. I'm thinking there needs to be something to trick the phone into thinking the keyboard drawer is closed when it's actually open.
It seems, as usual, that I am coming up with lame brain ideas and haven't a clue as how to making them happen. I emailed one keyboard dev a few days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I guess I could shoot out emails to all the devs of the keyboards I have bought and see if I get a response.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 1-year warranty on manufacturing defects, regardless of insurance standing or the 30-day return policy? Certainly sounds like a manufacturing defect to me, unless it's broken from misuse
this isnt the place for talking about warantee issues. start a different thread. this is about answering the question in this thread.
have you tried any other keyboards from the market or like the swype beta or anything? idk if it would make a difference. i doubt you can disable it while its open. if you want to use the soft keyboard close the phone? Its probably best practice to keep the phone closed when you arent using the hardware keyboard anyways?
