Recently got my hands on an XDA2, so you could say I am a newcomer to the world of the pocket pc.
One little gripe that I am hoping to sort out is the lack of notification when I have a missed call.
All that shows up is a small handset icon in the top navbar. Whereas all my other alerts display a speech bubble on the screen.
I have tried selecting 'display message on screen' from the notifications settings, but this doesn't change anything.
If anyone has any ideas how I can sort this out I would be grateful
Cheers.
try using MY|PHONE 1.4 plugin ... it's freeware
If you tap the missed call icon, it's supposed to display a notification bubble telling you how many calls you've missed. The bubble also shows a button that will open the Call History window where you can see your missed calls.
Thanks for your responses, i'm trying out Myphone now, I'll see how that goes, then consider hudsonmobile.
Cheers
If you go into Settings, Notifications and Alerts I think it is, you can alter the behaviour of the diodes on the top to notify you of many things.
Doing this, you don't even need look at the screen etc to see if 'something has happened' such as a missed call, sms etc.
I've downloaded and installed myphone 1.4, but after installation nothing shows up on the programs or settings tab. And when I check the install directory through file explorer, there are no files in the myphone directory.
I am presuming that I have downloaded a duff file. Can anyone point me in the direction of download sites for this.
Cheers

I don't think so. I never used that software myself (which means I'm just guessing here), but iirc MyPhone is just a Today Screen plugin. This means, go to Start -> Settings -> Today-> Elements, and check that it's listed there and has a check mark next to it.
Note that the OS has a limit on the number of Today Screen plugins it will display simultaneously. So, if you installed too many, some will simply not be displayed on your Today Screen.
Cheers
Daniel
got it, cheers daniel.
located - start> settings> today> items>
Checked the MYPHONE box and it's on my today screen now.
Once on the today screen, it is possible to tap and hold for additional settings.
Thanks for your reply.
Hi,
I've looked, clicked and sworn at it, but I just don't know how to get rid of the small bar at the very bottom of the today screen, just above the softkey indicators. At the moment it just has the (standard t-mobile) mini battery icon and the mini connection icon.
I've got no idea where the controller for this part of the today screen is. I'd really love to get rid of it altogether and have a few extra pixels for pocketplus. It just seems to be totally wasted screen real estate for me. I see other people have got useful stuff in this area, if there's a personalisation programme out there for it, please hit me up.
Cheers,
Chris
If you just want to remove those icons - which removes the tray as well - see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40133
If you want to remove it altogether, try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331
And if you want to customize the tray with icons to specific apps, try "PHM TrayLaunch" - it's part of the PHM PowerToys - can probably be ripped out somehow and made stand-alone.
Sorry guys, ToggleToday is still WM2003 only right now. I'll update as soon as I get a few minutes. It's complicated to write, since the tray gets refreshed on screen rotations etc. And I'm just too busy to deal with it properly right now Soon...

Hey, thanks very much guys
PHM TrayLaunch looks like a very useful app, but I'm struggling to successfully add programs/icons. For example, if I want to have ActiveSync as one of the icons in the tray, does anyone know what should be entered as the "target"?
I'm afraid I don't have my phone in front of me, but trying navigating through your \windows\start menu and checking the properties for existing shortcuts.
Eg Find activesync, display properties, and it will display the target for the shortcut. That's your baby.

oops
Unfortunately I can't find a way to display properties for a shortcut - Explorer's "tap & hold" menu only allows you to cut/copy/paste etc - there's no "properties" window like there is on normal PC-Windows.
Fork, try gsfinder or another explorer replacement.
Also try having a read through this:

Thanks Vijay, I've downloaded Resco Explorer 2005 but cannot find the ActiveSync shortcut anywhere on my device! Does anyone know what the shortcut is to start ActiveSync?
It's not obvious!
\windows\replog.exe
V
Thanks for the reply Vijay, but replog.exe doesn't exist anywhere on my device.
Sorry, missed one letter
"\windows\repllog.exe" on my Universal.
V
Thanks Vijay, bizarely repllog.exe doesn't show up in my Windows folder using Resco Explorer, but setting this as the path gives me an ActiveSync icon in the tray - so it's obviously finding it.
Unfortunately, clicking the icon doesn't launch ActiveSync. It briefly displays "Connect to" in the top title bar before disappearing, and the Today page remains onscreen all the time.
Any other suggestions you can think of?
Thanks,
Fork, it depends on what state the activesync app is in at the time. It doesn't always like to show itself in my experience as well. Not entirely sure why. Sometimes when you're disconnected it will show, sometimes when you're connected it'll show?
In resco, ensure you're displaying hidden files, system files and rom files.
V
Thanks Vijay, I hadn't spotted that option in Resco Explorer - it shows up now.
Hi There,
If you ever used the "Close Button" plug-in from Spb Mobile Plus you prolly know what I mean...
The HTC Taskmanager looks all nice, I like it, but its only accessible on the Today Screen. Is there a way to make it accessible even when you're not on the today screen?
Sometimes when you're doing stuff you want to "alt-tab" to another program and this is an easy way to do it, or when you want to close another/all other programs.
I hope there's a solution because it really is an improvement to the taskmanager.
me too
sorry, no help here. I can only say "me too". I was actually just thinking about this today. I've had this phone for a few months, and it just today occurred to mr today that you can't close other open programs without going back to the today screen, only option is to "x" button back to today screen or hope that what you seek to close is in your start menu under 'recent items'.
any help or development would be super appreciated, thanks all.
There is a shortcut in the Settings folder in the Systems tab. However, I expect you don't want to go through all of that when you want to use it. As an alternative, you could use file explorer and go into the Windows folder, find the Task Manager program in there, copy it and past a shortcut in the Windows/Start Menu folder. Then it would be on your Start Menu. You would need to remove one other item if you were then over the allowed maximum number of items in there.
Is that accessible enough?
I'd rather not put it in my start menu cus there are other "important" shortcuts in there...
I'd rather have it in the upper right corner...
You could use WkTask
the best free taskmanager there is (not working on wm6.5)

I tried it and I like it, Is there a way to make a backup of my settings?
It seems the program doesnt work as i wished it would. I worked with it for a while and I like the concept alot, but there's a major flaw. Sometimes when I make adjustments to, lets say, my alarm settings (winmo clock/alarms setings), and when I press [ok] the window minimizes (I set the one click to minimize), there's no way you can apply the changes because it will keep on running on the background. If I choose to close it then the changes wont apply. This occurs to many other programs I use in simular occasions when you need to press [ok] to apply settings.
I would still have a solution to the HTC taskbar though. I think I would prefer it over the WkTask taskmanager.
Ok i know a few of you would like to do this, and i think its been asked before but nothing turns up on search.
What the hell is it with the windows home screen, icons all over the place, no real easy way to move them, or order them.
I have tried a few programs but they mainly just seem to mess things up, i have also tried organizing all my icons into folders in windows, while it does sort of work there are still things you cant move, or it just does not go to plan, i know in 6.5.1 there is an option to re-organise icons how you like, but surely there is a way for 6.5?, its driving me nuts, there is crap all over the place with no organization to it.
Example i do things like this, create folder for the following...
TOOLS
MUSIC
VIDEO
ONLINE
NAVIGATION
ECT...
And place corresponding progs into it, so you have some idea as to where a certain program is, its just neater.
Any ideas anybody?, i came across a site where some chap had written a program and had done everything i want to, but it didnt work for me, just kept crashing.
Jesus i could even do this on my nokia.....
Go to \Windows\Start Menu. There you can create folders that will then show up in the start menu and you can reorganize your shortcuts to those folders.
Use JWMD Icon Changer, it works on the HD2.
I'm obsessive about my Start menu order as well, so I definitely can tell you that program works. You can even change the icons since some programs have tiny jagged icons.
Use JWMD Icon Changer
Thats what i tried, but it does not seem to work and its cumbersome.
What am i doing worng?
What problem are you having exactly? It's not really cumbersome, it's a lot nicer than the other alternative which is Showaco's reStart (that one doesn't seem to work on the HD2, anyway).
If you have used the Windows feature to move icons up/down your Start menu list it will confuse this program, so you need to tap any icon you moved in that way and reset it to where it was before.
Then go to JWMD, browse to the folder you want to organize, click on tools and select arrange list. In the next window you can do organize your icons alphabetically or however you like. Then click save and restart your device and it should all work.
How am i supposed to remember what icons i moved in windows, i moved loads, maybe would explain why its not working.
So back to my original point, it does not really work....
Unless i can do a reset of the icons somehow?
If you tap on an icon and it gives you an option to move it to the bottom, it means you moved it to the top using the built-in method at some point.
The program works, it's not its fault you don't remember which icons you moved. If you don't believe me I can post for you a screenshot of my properly alphabetized Start Menu.
Yes i understand that the program is not meant to know and its not its fault, but bear in mind i have been fiddling with this phone for 4 weeks, theres no way in hell i can remember whats been moved where?.
Is there anyway to reset them all in one go, or it makes the prog pretty useless.
I told you, if you tap and hold on an icon and instead of giving you the option to 'move to the top' it gives you the option to 'move to the bottom' it means you used Windows' built-in way to rearrange those icons.
You can go through your list and move all the ones that let you to the bottom and leave the others where they are. Then try Icon Changer and see if it works.
Alternatively you can just hard reset your phone... or wait until a new ROM comes out... it shouldn't be too long away now and that will erase all your data anyway.
ah ill wait for new rom, to much hassle
Well, you're welcome anyway.
Yesterday, something suddenly went wrong with my phone. It became very unresponsive; programs wouldn't open, screen froze.
I had CHT 1.8.5 installed and suspected it may have something to do with that (though I'm not sure at all). I managed to uninstall it and get the original Sense back, but a number of things are still broken:
* Start menu: can't open it, neither with hardware Windows button nor with onscreen start button.
* Right hand corner icons "x" and "ok" don't show.
* Text input doesn't work: I can type on the soft keyboard but the letters don't appear.
I want to do a hard reset but would like to backup my text messages first. Problem is: I can't input my Windows Live password in MyPhone, since text input doesn't work.
Does anybody know what's wrong here and how to repair it? Or are there any other reliable ways to backup AND later restore text messages, that don't require text input?
Edit: I can use Resco explorer (except for text input) and most other programs, but it takes some trickery as they don't come to the foreground when I open them from the Sense home tab.
still have the problem?
the absent start menu and X buttons sound like a symptom of an overeager task manager terminating Shell32.exe. A soft reset will bring them back, until the task manager kills them again. I had the same problem with WKtask or xTask if i forget to exclude shell32.exe and mainila.exe from the exclusion list, (LINK).
if you don't have those task managers, but can still use the touchscreen for other things, then install MyMobiler in your PC to control the HD2 via usb. Do a full system backup, and use ActiveSync to start uninstalling a couple programs at a time until the problem goes away, and you'll know which program did it.
also, turn off CHT's lock screen, it causes more problems than it prevents. the stock hd2 lock screen should be good enough.
absent text input panel? don't know about that, but again, MyMobiler will take care of that from the PC.
Damn... that's a very informative reply. Thanks very much. I wish I had waited just one more day but I already performed a hard reset.
Still, it's great to get a little more insight on this as I was baffled by the behaviour of my phone. And I've seen a lot of weird things over the past years with different Windows Mobile devices. I don't know what could have caused Shell32.exe to shut down as the problem was present immediately after each soft reset, and I only use Resco Explorer's task manager which, I think, excludes critical stuff by default. And then there was that weird text input issue as well: it's not that the input panel was gone, but when typing on it the letters never appeared. I tried my Bluetooth keyboard and that didn't work either.
The touchscreen was still usable though, and your solution would probably have worked and saved me a lot of trouble...
I wonder if CHT's lockscreen could have been the problem. I uninstalled CHT first thing right after everything went wrong, but its lockscreen was enabled before that and maybe the uninstall left some unwanted stuff in place that kept causing trouble.
Anyway, thanks a lot for helping me understand a little more about all this.
