Is there an application where you can send text messages from your PC' monitorscreen while the device is hooked up via windows mobile center (active sync)?
I often use soti pocket controller (lets you view and acces your xperia on screen, great app for installing cab files and editing your device), but its just nog stable enough, sometimes the connections just failes on me...
W'd be a great help... (especially unlimited text messaging, you'd be texting like its e-mail!)
Btw, great site with tons of info... find myself checking it every day...
I know you can do this with Jeyo Mobile Companion, but I'm not sure if it works with the x1 yet.

When I had a C902 I used an amazing application called My Phone Explorer, but unfortunately they don't work with Windows Mobile Phones. I know that hasn't answered your question, but will be watcing this thread as I am also interested.
I currently use:

Looks ok, but works rather slow, when typing messages in the screen, the application often skips some letters, but still testing.
There must me other applications out there that can handle this. So ill keep searching!

You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Very Good idea, I got some old phones with 2.5" LCD working, it is now time to wake them!
um.. install resco photo viewer.. i remember this feature on my hp6515a and after installing resco i have it back!

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

This doesn't work with Active Sync 4.5 and or WM6
looks like they might be scrapping the development of this because of the similar features in vista.

Hah, I hadn't tried it with 4.5; nor does my device have WM6. But in a way it makes sense to stop this functionality. Still, I only recently came across it and thought it could have given some people some ideas.

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:
http://www.zoneos.com/index.htm
It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.
<http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/21/ricavisions-vista-mce-sideshow-remote-does-bluetooth-at-100-met/>
All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.
Is there such a program that will allow me to control my wizard from my PC desktop? I thought I saw one before, but I have searched and searched and cannot find. Any help would be great.
Microsoft has a "Windows Mobile Power Toys" (AFAIR, not 100% sure) Package, which contains a tool to do that. It's pretty old and I don't know whether it still works with modern Windows Mobile versions, but you may nevertheless give it a try.
EDIT: By accident just found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2179815&postcount=2
Sounds pretty promising

Soti's Pocket Controller was recommended to me yesterday and I can vouch for it being an outstanding program.

I use "My Mobiler" and its very good. The best thing is that I can use my mouse cursor in the Wizard screen, at the same time I use it on pc.
There is the version 1.23 released on the developer site: www.mymobiler.com

Yes and it's a good one but it's too expensive.
$39.95 for IM
I used to use slick on S60 and it supported file transfer. Been using slick on my x1 but I havent try to use files transfer yet. You could try that, just google lonecate games slick.
I'm using BeeJiveIM and fring occasionally....but BeeJive seems to work best so far.
I kinda want a IM app thats finger friendly. But it's rather hard to find
IM comparison

today I checked new version of Fring(3.3.4) which has file transfer. It has real
file trasfer not just as a link! but I can not transferr MP3 with that.
Have anyone tried the new version on XPERIA?
None supports QQ?

Same here,
If you use msn you can even send offline messages.
The downside is that the font is too small for our resolution but still usable.

I would be interested in locating a mobile version of QQ (english preferably..)
I've been using Palringo.
Works alright for me, could be better.
Sometimes I need a soft reset for it to log in, wont log in other wise, dont know why.
Also, do the other apps make the Instant Message LED indicator flash? I know its there in the illumination settings, but palringo doesnt trigger it :|
I like also the EQO Messenger http://www.eqo.com/.
i use slick. a bit slow on some menus but i like it better than nimbuz as it does not require you to log a web server to use.
I use Live messenger and Skype, just as on the laptop.
I have tried fring but it wasn't quite it...
IM+ FTW!!!
I too second IM+. It simply works, while many others simply did not. I use ICQ, GT and Jabber protocols.
And skype for skype, sure, but it's constant data flow and thus constant battery drain. Good if it's cold outside and you want to keep your hands warm
I like fring

You should definitely check out mIQ! Does exactly what you're looking for. Also backs up contacts, calendar, and media.
Can't post links yet but website is (NO www) miqlive dot com (it's also in our signature).

Yes or No? I have remote controller and while it works good, it doesnt recognize the slide keyboard, idk if realvnc or uvnc will, but they're more universal and all my machines already have uvnc on them
Are you talking about a viewer/client or a server on your phone?
RealVNC's website says they have a WM viewer, but there don't seem to be any links to it and it appears to be a commercial product. I don't see any evidence that UltraVNC make a WM viewer.
There are a couple of fully workable free viewers around. Search for vnc-E4_2_7b4-arm_pocketpc_viewer or check out http://dotnetvnc.sourceforge.net/.

awesome, and this supports the proprietary keyboard on the tp2? Its a serious pain in the ace having to pull up the char. map that this remote im using now needs
Got it running perfect, exactly what I was lookin for, thanks for the help guys
Police Scanner for Win Mo?
Ive seen it for both the droid and the (stupid POS) iphone, theres gotta be a scanner for windows mobile, anyone seen anything?
I've been making a couple posts about UltraVNC mobile over at their website, but I doubt any of the developers really have a Windows Mobile phone to mess around with it. I have the RealVNC one, pre-paid-app version. It seems to be the best. I wish UltraVNC did develop a mobile version because I can't view my secondary monitor on the VNC viewer I'm using now.
Also, just as a note, there are VNC servers out there for your phone so you can use a VNC viewer on your PC to control your phone, but I haven't found one that was always stable. This one seems to be the best bet, but now it's a paid-app.

i tried but i kept getting this error: unable to connect to host: connection timed out (10060)
i was able to connect from pc to pc but not wm to pc. host runs on Win 7 with Outpost firewall. I already allow it on my firewall and forwarded those ports on my router. if you or anyone knows the solution, please tell me. thx.
on your windows 7 pc run uvnc server, Not realvnc. It doesnt work idk why. set it up to recieve the user, pass, and to recieve remote input and then connect using wm realvnc. works on all my machines
I found this a while back it seems to work fine just unzip and copy over to your SD card then run the exe. I personally copied it to my programs folder then created a shortcut to in my start menu.
