Indeed .
i didnt bother myself testing (see pic to guess why) but some people in the diamond thread linked in the first post are claiming full 20fps+. the youtube application does not allaw you to view a youtube link
maybe you are doing something wrong

Actually, I find that it plays back youtube videos quite smoothly through Opera on mine. Also, the youtube app has now become quite choppy during playback under the new R2 ROMS.
Youtube videos are a choppy with R2 only when downloading. After that they run pretty 'effin good! Before I could watch a movie while downloading and it would run pretty well. Now it runs MUCH smoother (almost with out any frame drops) but i have to wait until the download is finished. Otherwise it is laggy as all h3ll.
The high quality trailers such as "Iron Sky teaser", "X-men Origins: Wolverine HD trailer", and "Pixar's UP Trailer #2 HD" are what I have been using to test my Xperia's video capabilies. These run very very well, colors are great, and they fit our screen perfectly.
On R1 it ran great with all of the cahe maxed out. But I have been runing R2 with out touching ANY of the stock settings and it is running a little bit better.

I have tested youtube on several x1 Roms and i am extremely annoyed with how pathetic the situation is. The only way to play the videos at full framerate is to drop the quality to "fast download". Otherwise its just too choppy
Roms with new ati drivers are a bit better but are still slower than my 3year old overclocked wizard.
Will thc/se/qualcomm ever fix their "drivers"

Can you say what ati drivers did you upadated and where did you get them?
EDGE or HSDPA ??
The internet speed difference is brutal...
You gotta compare the resolution between the two. The Xperia has much more pixel to render. So yeah if we put a QVGA LCD on the Xperia things will be fast as hell.
Anyway I can still watch Youtube videos smoothly with the high quality chosen without any problem.
for updated drivers i used jockeys rom 1.08
for both devices i used wifi and the demo version of core player and htc's youtube player
the x1 has 5x the resolution but the videos are only slightly higher than qvga for the standard video
nktpro, what Rom are you using (i want to test it)can you test this video: just search "gears of war mad world" you will get 1 minute that plays perfectly on my overclocked wizard but not on X1. thw x1 pic quality is *slightly* better due to its screen. overall the experiance is still better on the wizard due to the full frame rate
I watched the gears of war trailer and it run smooth on my x1, no lag at all. I thinki the internet connection might be your problem.
youtube by wifi is working fine. but use the htc youtube player NOT core player.
the core player is a very good program, but not the includet youtube browser.
the video quality is very poor. the same movies with htc youtube player, with high quali option set, is much better. its different like qvga to vga. and the picture is much clearer at all.
Use HTC youtube player. I watch youtube HD videos in full screen with max frame rate. No lags/slow downs whats so ever. Core player sucks at playing youtube videos.
i am using the htc you tube player.
if its playing perfectly (30fps) on many people machines then it must be my problem. im using rom (chalid 0.03) now.
what rom are you using i need to flash to something else to see if it helps

Nothing. Im running stock ROM. and all those tweaks and ati driver didnt improve the video playback at all btw, so i went back to default settings and tweaks. "If its not broken, dont fix it!"
the native youtube app is extremely choppy when playing on the x2
wondering if its just me

yeah. the youtube app is not totaly fluid (fluid=30fps) but it runs good enough for me.
same
i got the same prob, i ran same video on same network at same time, the videos played on i phone were very sharp n smooth, while x2 struggled to run it smooth especially when playing HQ or HD content
need help here tooo,

so i just watch this video

how about atrix ? can it handle 720p in browser ?
Every YouTube video I try defaults to 360p and when I try to bring up the resolution selection, it appears for a split second and goes away. I can't even choose 720p!
I can use 720p on my vibrant
Sent from my Vibrant Running my own Rom using XDA Premium App
No the Atrix istn able to play ANY 720p youtube video without lagging on the net. You have to watch in 480p.
Tegra 2 istn capable of this.
Just played a bunch of 720p videos on youtube, all ran smooth and fast.
The only video that never played flash was some espn ones

Thats impossible. Tegra 2 isnt capable of decoding HP 720p youtube videos hardwarewise & it doesnt have to.
So i dont know which phone you have right now but its not the atrix..

That video played fine for me. Not sure what resolution it is pushing as the mobile site only says HQ.
Jeah mobile HQ youtube = 480p.
You have to play it directly in the stock browser.
Yeah those that have it "working" must be on the mobile youtube site. Embedded in the stock browser, it stutters pretty bad.
that and you get the "not optimized for mobile" message

I just tried it in the stock browser embedded. Not stuttering, its watchable, just not perfect perfect smooth.
I'm on Bell and using flash 10.1, not sure if that makes any difference.
Yea.... i dunno if the "Tegra 2 does not support it" statement is the greatest way to put it. It more than likely CAN play 720p video in the browser.... but i'm guessing it would need to be a browser with GPU-assisted rendering in order to be perfectly smooth playback.

Ack, this is horrible! Oh wait, I thought it was stuttering. Then I saw it was just loading.
...10 minutes later (Hey AT&T, I think you forgot the 4G part on my Atrix 4G)
...
...
Now playing with video finally loaded:
A little stutter as it start playing, but smooth after the first 3 seconds....Opera 11 mobile browser.
For a while, I had both the Atrix and the Inspire. I loaded MotoBlur 1.1 on the Atrix and CM7 nightly on the Inspire (which OC'ed it to 1.5 Ghz). I tested various flash videos with both devices side by side running Dolphin Mini and Flash 10.2 over wifi.
Playback of 720p videos in the browser from sites like Devour.com were prefect and smooth on the 1.5 Ghz Inpsire. The same videos were almost unwatchable on the Atrix. I also noticed this when watching embedded video on pages filled with many clips (video section of Failblog for example). The same clip would be very choppy on the Atrix and the Inspire would play it smoothly.
I ended up keeping the Atrix because of battery issues with the Inspire (yes, I tried every trick in the book to optimize it). My time with both devices showed a fast, single core CPU results in much more "real life" performance than the dual core Atrix is capable of putting out.
Hopefully Flash and Android become better optimized for dual core processors.
Could it be froyo vs gingerbread thingi ? As i know ginger has some code optimise for flash but froyo is not.
Could also be the case. As we all know, there tends to be a pretty big difference from OS to OS..... take Eclair to Froyo for instance.
so i just did a pretty badass lagtest of the S2, pulled up 20 tabs, and played a video on all 20 tabs. not even the slightest hiccup, pinchzooming as smooth as a picture, no lag whatso ever, as smooth as going to google.com
had some stuff running in the background too, i didnt set up for this video at all.. original out of box stock rom.. totally unstoppable!
check out the video by yours truely~
Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, for: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iox1hzW_ODE use: [youtube]iox1hzW_ODE[/youtube_] -- without the _

To be fair that's probably more to do with BBC's shoddy application than it is flash or the phone. How else do you explain that other flash streaming works perfectly?

I know what you mean. The beeb uses some bull**** which meant that the iplayer was not available to us Linux users for a long time even though we have flash capable browsers that played everything else.
Has anyone tried watching a 1080p flash video from the browser? Was it smooth or choppy?
Smooth as butter. I watched a ton of 1080p videos off YouTube and megavideo.

i wanna make a post or something where its just a whole page of embedded videos, so i dont have to do tabs, anyone got a forum they dont mind spamming with videos? ill make a cool video out of it!
That's because the ****heads at the BBC knows they'll be getting money from us every year regardless of the **** they produce. The TV licensing scheme is pure bull****, they should work for their keep like every other station.
@Killer Bee "Has anyone tried watching a 1080p flash video from the browser? Was it smooth or choppy?"

I just got my Note in the mail from Clove UK. And everything is great so far, and I dunno if this is and Android thing (This is my first Android device) or a Samsung thing. When I play videos from You Tube or videos that I encoded the blacks are heavily pixelated. (Not sure if that's a word). Am I doing something wrong? What program and/or setting is the best to get rid of that black pixel issue? The test video of the jelly fish works great. Noob questions I know! Thank in advance again for your help.
My guess is that its not directly your fault.
There are several aspects to think of here:
- It may be that artefacts (caused by video encoded in low bitrate) are more noticable on a screen like that of the galaxy note than others.
- It may be that youtube just delivers you the low quality version of the video.
- The video on youtube may be in bad quality to begin with, try other youtube videos and see if it happens only on a few ones or many.
- Note: I see now you already tried the video, so that is probably not a cause. (Your screen itself may have some flaws. Check on that for instance by using a screen test tool like "Screen Test" or playing the video already supplied with the Note (Open the standard video player app that comes with it and select "lightness & slimmess"))
When it comes to watching youtube on a mobile device I recommend (if you have a mobile data connection with enough bandwidth, such as good umts or hsdpa or Wifi) to enable high quality in the youtube app (whenever possible, use the youtube app, and do not play it in the browser).
To do this hit the options button in the youtube app, select settings and enable the first option to enable high mobile quality.
Secondly many videos will allow you to switch between lower and higher quality with the HD button on the upper left (visible at the start or when you tap the screen while palaying) - if you enable high mobile quality this should be turned on to high quality by default.
When it comes to youtube thats probably all you can do to improve quality.
When it comes to playing videos in general (excluding youtube) the standard player can manage most formats. However if you have trouble with some videos you may want to give Dice player a try!
Hope this helps!
Ok thanks, I will def try that!
I belive this is coursed by the hight res/density of the Note screen and low quality of the video in YouTube app, I think the highest quality of video in the YouTube app is only 480P.
I also noticed this problem while streaming old TV shows from PLEX to my Note, this is less noticeable with my Tab 10.1 with the same resolution but its screen is about 4 times larger.
You could use the stock or most aftermarket browser and watch 720P YouTube using Flash on normal YouTube site.
simple solution is to not use the app and just use a browser. ive had no issues watching 720p videos in youtube on the browser.

I've noticed this too with the You Tube app. The blacks sometimes are blocky. A good example is the Avatar 1080p trailer, especially around 15 seconds mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i2RCBa3l-g
If I view the same clip on You Tube via a browser (720p settings) it looks better, but the browser is a fiddly substitute for the app on a phone. It does seem to be mostly a bitrate limitation though, so maybe Google or a.n. other hacker needs to modify "HD" on their app to mean a higher bitrate, now we're defining 1280x800 as a mobile screen resolution .
[edit]
Actually, if I watch that Avatar clip in the browser with a playback quality set to 240p or 360p it obviously looks pixelated, but doesn't show the blockiness that's in the You Tube app stream. Looks like the app either is handling the stream differently (badly) or the stream itself is different to that which is sent to the flash plugin in the browser. Wonder if Google is using a different codec for their app. WebM maybe?
