iPAQ 600 audio recording BUG? - Sable

I have an iPAQ 610c, every time I record an audio file with any app (VITO, RESCO, windows notes, etc) it records fine until the screens backlit turns off (not the hole screen turn off, just the light) exactly in that event the recording starts to have a lot of noise like static. I already change the ROM to WM6.1 and the radio to the newest official release, .88 I think.
I contacted HP and they gived to me a new one but this one does the same thing, so this must be on all iPAQs 610c or even on all the 600 series
Give it a try
1.- set the backlit to 10 seconds (this way you'll wait less)
2.-make an audio recording with the windowsmobile notes longer than 10 seconds long
3.-play the file and listen carefully to the second 9 or 10 on the recording
As soon I have some spare time I''l upload some recordings of the problem.
Please sorry for my bad english.

same problem at mine....only thing is that mine isn't modified....original rom and radio...

Yes, you are right. Tested with Vito Audio Notes Touch. After backlight is turned off started strange noise bzzzz
It should be a massive attack to HP Support ))

confirmed on 612c Wm6.1

HP called me some days ago and they told me that they will do some tests to make sure there is a real problem on the unit, but after 10 days they havent called back to give me a solution.
My workaround is to use resco audio recorder and make the app turn off the screen before the backlit dims.
The strange part is that when you record a call the problem does not show up, so that makes me think that this is not a hardware problem, or it could be?
Try to record a call and post your results here.
I hope they fix this because is really annoying, I love my 610c exept for that. I think this is a good reason to be complaining.

HP called me for this and they said they will do some tests to verify is a hardware or software problem, as soon as they tell me what is it i'll post it.

this was fixed when i did a flash to WM 6.1 20270 1.4 Rev 1.2 Standard
now when i press the voice record button the screen brightness goes to full power and the screen stays on untill i stop the recording. I dont see this as a fix, bu rather a work around, i'm not sure how much battary life is lost doing it this way.

is there a way to ad this fix to another ROM? a cab or something? I have WM6.1.20273 ESN made By NiZuZen but is has the bug.

sorry i dd not cook this room and i dont know what changes were made to create it. This rom was made by Yevg001.
I did notice i had a "HP call waiting Tone fix", "Arcsoft Codec Plugin" and "IAC Corp BSPropCab" listed in my remove programs that i did not install. These were included with the rom and possibly fixed the recording issues.

those programs are part of hp patches being installed after clean boot by customization engine (OS v1.01.04 update and call waiting fix)

Bluetooth Shuts Itself Off

I have experienced a strange problem with my JasJar bluetooth radio. The bluetooth radio seems to turn itself off from time to time. I think it is somehow related to WM2005, because I had the same issue with a Himalaya running WM2005 (thanks to Buzz). What is weird is that the blue light continues to blink. If you go to the wireless manager applet, it sometimes shows the bluetooth as on and sometimes as off, but if you go to the bluetooth setting, it shows the radio as off. Turning it on, with the applet, or in the bluetooth settings, is only sometimes successful in actually getting it working again. Ressetting the device works every time. No need to re-pair.
Any suggestions?
TIA

I tried buzz's reg power hack, but I got dropped again this morning. my current hypotheses are based on the few things that happened btwn ok & bad today:
- may happen after an alarm
- may happen when charged
- may have been caused by a missed call
we need 2 elevate this. it is a SERIOUS flaw. have tried 3 BT devices - all the same!

This is what happens if you buy a "beta" product for tons of money. Next time be more clever and buy later, when the operating software is near to final. And btw HTC sucks 'coz they are selling / producing a non-final product.
Edit: i've made a mistake in the registry... found by ekapco. THANX.

WOW!
That was a helpful post. Thanks.
Buzz; can you explain what your fix actually does? I don't have a cab extractor here to look at the contents.
fix sets hds1: = dword:0 for 'unattended' system power state.
hds1: is headset device identifier.
bkl1: is backlight
wav1: is wave device
dsk1: is block/disk device
etc...
let's have some fun with those power settings...
open your regeditor and change
[HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/power/state/on]
"bkl1:"=dword:4
and
[HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/power/state/backlightoff]
"bkl1:"=dword:0
after changing the regs, press power button to off and on again. that will flush and apply new settings.
ok. the above settings will REVERT backlight's behaviour. I mean, when device is on, backlight is off. after inactivity timeout, light goes on.
well... funny experiment...
that proves, that devices could be powermanaged from here.
if you've had enough fun, revert those settings to normal. ;o)))
now set in:
[HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/power/state/unattended]
"bkl1:"=dword:0
that SHOULD turn the backlight on, when you leave the device untouched for a longer time (when the display goes off) or if you press the power button.
so leave it untouched and watch the display to see what's gonna happen on the 'unattended' state.
after approx. 5 minutes (never measure that), just when the display is about to off itself, BACKLIGHT FLASHES for a second and goes OFF.
why? we just said, bkl1:=0 (ON)?
so our settings are overriden. maybe that 'flags' settings?
lets see later, but exactly the same happens with BT connection even if we say ON, it goes off...
I have to sleep now in 'unattented' state, but meanwhile you can look at msdn, coz I saw those flags description there.
good night

{EB91C7C9-8BF6-4a2d-9AB8-69724EED97D1} Power-manageable display
Does this help? Or am I wrong?
O Hell! Your hack seems to have kept it alive overnight, and I truly thought it was solved. But today I'm finding that the BT problems go way deeper than sleeping (nothing to do ur hack):
- In the middle of a call, with my phone within 2 feet of me at all times and both devices fully charged, it disconnected BT and continued the call on the handset
- Thereafter I got the kind of trouble we've experienced in the past:
- A new call coming in only answers on the handset. Pressing the BT button initiates a SECOND call out on the BT - to the last number dialed.
- Trying to make an outgoing call it LOOKS like the headset is enabled, but as soon as the call initiates the headset icon dissapears and the call continues on the handset
- Throughtout, BT seems to be on (ie no on/off issues)
- All seemingly fixed by a reset.
Basically it feels like the BT stack is a complete disaster. When u start ROM hacking this Buzz, I'm very much looking forwards to going back to the old BT stack.
Any thoughts Buzz?

there is another problem, it seems that my mobile doesn't accept any connection from any nokia mobile, it says to them (unable to connect), i don't know why???????????
I too am experiencing Bluetooth problems with my O2 Exec and a Motoroa HS810 headset. I use voice tags quite a bit and for the most part this works well however sometimes the EXEC fails to respond to the button press on the headset.
I first noticed this when I did the reg hack to make MS Voice Command the default Voice dialler and presumed that maybe there was a problem with MS VC so went back to VoiceDialler. However the same thing happens with VoiceDialler. To get it working again i have to turn off bluetooth in the Wireless Settings panel and then turn it on again. After this it starts to work again (but not ideal if your driving).
I think this might be the same problem mentioned above, i.e. bluetooth says it is on, the blue led flashes on the phone, but in reality it has switched itself off. I did some more testing while the headset was not initiating voice dialling and called the Exec. After a short time, the headset icon appeared on the "Incoming Call" message area and my headset burst into life. This would make sense I suppose because doesn't Headset mode start bluetooth up when a call is received (presuming it is off)?
Looked at Buzz's reg hack for Bluetooth but didn't really understand it
Here's what didn't fixed it for me.
After more reading today I realize I was way wrong.

Curious, how many of you are running skype? Try this

This is just something I stumbled across a while ago but haven't had the time to post it. I'm not making any promises so this is just a head's up.
If anyone remembers my last post on skype here, you'll recall me saying that there's a Disable Codecs key in the registry. Well I didn't know the codecs but SkypeSmart over at Skype forums posted this tweak for his iPaq and it works a treat.
I'm running my Mini S with the original ROM and skype with my key reading: ILBC G729 EG711U
As a result it only uses the EG711A codec and guess what, it works, at stock speed too. My phone is an utter mess but it works at an acceptable level that is to say both parties can hear the conversation without any hiccups. Tested over a WiFi link but be warned you'll lose connectivity with echo123 and it also seems to me that Skype Linux doesn't have the EG711A or EG711U or even the G729 codecs so you won't be able to chat with them unless you enable ILBC.
One thing worth testing is to see what happens in a conference call (with a Windows machine as host and a Linux machine and the wizard with some of the codecs disabled) but I don't have the time to test so be my guest and post the results if you do test it.
By the way, I use Skype v2 Feb 14 release. If anyone wants to post their overclocked results or anything, great.
Indeed it does work and VERY well. I just called across a very sketchy broadband connection and audio in BOTH ways was clear. Before, I could be heard by the other party but could not hear them in return. Once I overclocked, I could actually have a couple of pragrams running in the background and still have acceptable resources left. Bravo to whoever came up with this tweak.
How far did you overclock? Also, I know a lot of people are viewing this thread but only one response so far...does that mean the rest of you are enjoying Skype?
i use skype with my wizard very well and i can use skypeout as well.
i installed for the high cpu usage, not low cpu usage. but i also use omapoverclock.
what i did, just installed skype, then change the content of d shortcut using total commander in windows/start menu/programs/skype.lnk with this one:
46#"\program files\omapclock.exe" -clock 240 -launch "\Program Files\Skype for Pocket PC\Skype.exe" -restore?Program Files\Skype for Pocket PC\Skype.exe,
in this case, i put omapclock file in 'program files' folder, and don't forget to use "," sign in the last content of skype. because it gives u back d skype icon, otherwise u'll see omapclock icon.
Gut luck!!! and i hope this can be useful 4 u...

You're not. Apparently the M600 is the only phone which might support non-speakerphone chat on skype. I heard that its latest ROM does exactly what you want it do. I don't know if its a Skype specific issue or whether it's ROM specific but I have not seen any apps other than the phone app itself take advantage of the earpiece.
@guyver2077:
If you're referring to the tweak I listed, what does it do when you call PCs? I made a skype out call actually 3 of them and I could hear all of them clearly - 1 to Guam , 2 to HK and I'm in the UK.
@Ricky:
Does 240MHz eat away at the battery life, especially with WiFi on?
I just spent the last few days setting up a Linksys NSLU2 with DebianSlug and it works great; Samba works with the phone too 8). A little tempted to get a bluetooth dongle to stick to the slug so that I can connect to the net over bluetooth when possible but the BT stack on the mobile doesn't support BT networking does it?

When I said speakerphone I meant simply that the sound is coming out at the same volume as media player, etc if that makes sense. There's no reason for you not to be able to hear a thing though. :?

If you think about it, it makes sense. This is Skype for Pocket PC, most Pocket PCs don't have the phone built in.
Do you have a BT headset? If so open the audio gateway (either using the program posted in this forum or via Voice Command press BT button and just say "Open Skype", the Audio gate will stay open).
This should allow you to use your BT headset for Skype calls.

I suppose you're right, that would explain things but is there an option to actually channel audio to the ear piece? If not, then it's definitely an issue with the way the device ROMs are designed (assuming that there is a way for software to utilize the ear piece).
Well, I'm glad a few people found it useful and I hope it's working for the rest of you as well. I might just pick-up OMAP clock a little later and try to see how well an overclock fares on my device but first, I'm going to try a few apps I've been wanting to try for a while.
Great tip!
I have previously tried Skype on my Qtek 9100 but have always found the audio quality quite bad, even when overclocking to 240.
After changing the DisableCodecs as suggested here, the audio quality is now really good, also when using SkypeOut to a Fixednet phone.
Thanks for the tip!
Yes Great tip, thanks
Can someone point me in the direction of the program that opens the audio gateway?
I don't have MS Voice Command, I only have the default "Voice Speed Dial".
EDIT: FOUND IT!!!
Therez two actually. one is btAudio, and the other is VjVolubilis
After Skype Install - Alarm clock chaos
Hi
I have been reading this thread with interest. I own an old XDA (one with aerial) and now the XDA Mini S. Have had it now for about 6 months and sync up to 2 pc's, have multiple email accounts, use the Wifi/msn - so use pretty much all of functionality. Happy so far!
I installed the pocket pc version of Skype last night - and found that this morning my alarm went off - but with no options displayed on the screen to snooze/dismiss alarm! Consequently - the alarm/vibrate goes off every 5 minutes - and only thing i can do is remove the battery -so phone basically unusable. Soft reset does not help - and would rather not hard reset as then will have to redo email settings etc.
Anyone out there had this problem before? Your help would be appreciated (think you are calling the XDA mini a wizard)
OS Build: 5.1.70 (14406.1.1.1)
ROM: 1.5.4.2 WWE
ROM date: 11/8/05
Radio: 01.09.10
Protocol: 4.0.13.20
ExtROM: 1.5.4.103
Have you removed the Skype software already?
After Skype Install - Alarm clock chaos
Hi - Yes, I have removed Skype from the XDA Mini. Soft-reset again - no difference.
I had that alarm problem once.
I'd had my cingular 8125 (HTC wizard) for a week or two and had been putting apps on it and messing with the registry, then one morning my alarm went off, I reached over to silence it, pushed some random button accidentally, and the alarm kept on going. I opened my eyes and sat there for a minute waiting for my brain to boot up because I wasn't seeing the notice showing me which softkey to press. After awhile, I realized that I was completely awake, and there really was no way to turn the alarm off!
I messed around with that thing forever. Scrolling through menus, doing soft resets, etc. Nothing would silence the alarm. I tried reseting the time/date and doing a soft reset, but every time the device booted up, it would go nuts with alarm tones (they kept multiplying! Every time I would reset the time after having set it back, another alarm would go off and they started piling up!).
Boy, that really ruined my morning.
I ended up having to do a hard reset to fix the problem. And when I ran my latest backup, the problem came right back! So I had to do another hard reset and roll back to an earlier backup.
I really don't know what the problem was, but I think I might have a slight idea. I had downloaded some program called CheckNotifications by Scarybear software (I now know it's not meant for WM5) and I think I must have deleted that alarm notification from the "notification database". (No, I don't actually know what any of that means, I'm just regurgitating words I read online in a manner which seems to make a little sense). So some parte of the OS somewhere remembered the alarm, and turned it on at the right time, but the part of the OS responsible for giving you the facility to turn it off was screwed. But that's just a wild guess.
Maybe you also have some issue with your notification database.
Good luck! Of course, if you were anywhere near as annoyed as I was, you probably already said a few (dozen) choice curse words and did a hard reset.
(edit: clarified phone)

How to record a call with a single press on hardware button?

Hi,
I'm looking for a too that allows me to assign a hardware button of choice that starts/stops recording an phonecall.
I'm really looking for a lightweight tool that can do it.
I know notes can do that, but that takes too much actions to start recording.
I just want to be able to record a phoneconversation quickly as soon as I think I need to record it.
Thanks in advance
how can one record conversation in notes?
what is the procedure?
I still didn't findany tool as requested in the initial post.
Any ideas?
why do you expect an answer to your question when youre not answering yourself?
1. I don't know the answer to your question (I saw it somewhere else on the forum tough)
2. Your question is offtopic.
Btw, you didn't answer on my question either.

It does, but PMRecorder is free - why not use it?
I just tested PMRecorder. It's an OK piece of software does exactly what it says it would, however due to hardware limitations of PPC described in the link provided by menneisyys, call recording is only available with speakerphone ON and even than record quality is pretty low.
Too bad
I just audionotes. and set it to the memo button. Once a call comes in I can hit that button. I guessing may take about 3secs to fully load and then just answer the call. Works great with no problem. Don't need to use speaker phone. I tried it just using the phone, with the wired headset and the BT headset and al work pretty damn good. Although the other side volume will be about 30% lower then yours still can hear them just fine. But from my own test I wouldn't expect to record a conversation over 35min long. For some reason it ended around that amount of time on me but yet I still had tons of space left.

Hard to believe it worked. I too have a Wizard (G3 - do you have a G4? Anyone knows whether G4 no longer has this problem?) and a Universal & also tested a MDA III in this respect and am absolutely sure none of them make it possible to record the other party.
Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you've listened to the right recording with the wired / BT headset test?
I have no idea wehter I have a G3 or G4 so if you know how I can checc for you I'll be glad to let you know.
I've tried it many times and it continues to work. Especially since I never talk on the phone itself. I always use a headset (wired and BT). So there isn't a way I could get it mixed up.
Now I remember something from another thread that 1 person was having problems installing the app. After installation the programs works fine but the person couldn't activated it. Maybe that is required not sure.
I'm currently using version 1.11 and I noticed there's a 1.15 version now.
Also I notice this on their page:
Windows Mobile Smartphone

Note that phone calls are recorded only on WM 5.0 Smartphones. We recommend you to start recording phone calls after you have pressed the answer button.

Bug report for 2.2.1 CM Floyo v0.20

Hi there,
I was hoping this is the right place to report a couple of bugs on Bug report for 2.2.1 CM Floyo v0.20 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
I have tried both the 2.3 and 2.2 versions, and as 2.2 is more feature complete, I have been using it for a good while now.
However, I have noticed the following:
Video - It was crashing at the end of recording video, and the files were only openable with VLCplayer with picture but no audio, everything else said "failed to render". I've updated the VGA fix on the thread, so i'll see if this happens again.
Radio - When you turn the radio on, with the headphones plugged in, it always defaults to the speaker. I have to then click the button to bring up the menu, select "Play in speaker" and then again "Play in handsfree" and then it works
During calls - If you are listening to the radio or audio, and you get a phone call, it will interrupt the audio. However, when the phone call ends, it doesn't go back to whatever you were listening to. I know the stock rom could do this, and it's not a major annoyance but it would be cool to get that fixed.
Camera - When taking a number of photos, I've noticed that sometimes you can take a couple of pictures, but then it will show you a blank screen. You need to back out of the camera, and then back into it to keep taking shots.
Other than that I haven't had any problems, and if any of you are looking for a rom to replace the stock sony ericsson one, this one seems to be the most complete and functional (and I've tried them all).
Hopefully the dev will see this, and otherwise check out the rom. Good job!

There is an issue that I've experienced in Floyo's v0.20; I cant seem to mute the mic in a call.
I saw that the GingerFroyo ROM had this issue, but there seems to be no comment in Floyo's.
Has anyone seen a fix / mod for this?
unfortunately I cant comment on Dev threads so have to do it here
additional issues
Hello
I am using floyo 20 for more than a week, it seems very stable (more stable than my phone was with the original 1.6 soft), however I found some issues:
- Pictures taken seems lower quality (blurred), than what I was able to shoot with the original 2.1 soft. I dont know if it is a setting issue, however I didnt find a way to change photo setup (for example picture quality).
- Battery drains faster than with the orignal soft. Now the highest battery consumer is voice call, however with original soft, voice calls was not the highest battery consumer. Maybe it is also a setting issue, but I dont know what is set up differently.
Thank you.
Tom
FYI: I fixed the mute problem by replacing the Calls.apk from another ROM. Just replace the apk and set the permissions as rw-r--r-- (644)

Skype issues

Hi all,
I have installed the 'hacked' version of Skype which allows video calling on the SGSII. However the problems also apply to the official one on the market. The problems I am having are namely:
1) In call volume is too low - I can barely hear the person on the other end of the line. I am apparently fine. When I switch to video mode, I can barely hear them on the external speaker. I have set the call volume to max which improved things a touch (via the main SGSII settings). Is there any way round this?
2) Proximity sensor does not appear to work. This is generally ok as the screen timeout eventually kicks in, however when I then need to go back into the app I have to get past the lockscreen. Is there any way to get the proximity sensor to work and thus when I need to access the app during or post call, I don't have to go through the lockscreen every time?
Thanks in advance.
Farvesh.
*Bump*
Don't like to normally do this but it has been almost a week and no response....
Does anyone have these issues or is it just me?
Sorry, but it works fine here.
I am pretty deaf and I could hear it fine via speaker.
And the proximity sensor worked well.
(using 2.0.0.47 hacked skype on VR2.0)
I have camera issues sometime (turn upside down). But not always.
I reverted back to the official but didn't notice any of your issues.
Not 100% sure if Skype was the cause but was cached in the background and battery depleted a lot quicker til i froze it with Titanium...
Would it not of been better to post your concerns over at the forum that is running the hacked program?
You'll get better results from there.

As I said in the first post the same applies to the normal version in the market. I guess it is only me then - that being said I am using LR 1.5. Proximity sensor definitely does not work (screen timeout eventually turns the screen off).
Sound is definitely low as well - I compare it to my wife's 3GS and there is a very clear difference. Have the same problem with Tango as well... It's either the rom or a setting somewhere. Thanks for your responses anyway - appreciate it.

Like I said you'll get better feedback from the forums dealing with the hacked skype version.
Go in there and post your issues along with rom details mobile to mobile or mobile to PC skype chats..
theos0o may ask for your skype log file... Hope this helps
