Is there any database you can recommend? It should habe a desktop client.
Alex
I don't know if this will fill all your requirements by it's free and very, very good.

Looks very promising..!! Thank you!! I'll give it a try..!!

Try SprintDB www.kaione.com
I use it and it is brilliant, its like having full blown Microsoft Access on the ocket PC, Macros. modules, forms, queries, the works
But Sprint DB hasn't been developed for a long time.. as I see so far.. Does it work good on a WM5? Also in landscape mode and so on..
Alex
if its for commercial use what about Oracle Lite with Mobile Server.

The latest I heard from Kaione was that they were working on a WM5 version, but I've been using even the existing version with no problems since I got the Universal. It's fine in landscape mode as that was developed for WM2003SE compatibility.
Depending on what you actually want to do, SQLCE is really good. We use it at work, but you'd need to do some programming to use it!
Unfortunately I am not so good in programming databases. Would be nice if I could import some XLS or TXT lists and could design a nice form for the device for viewing..
SprintDB IS being actively developed, just before christmas I became a beta tester for their version 3 of sprintDB.
It works perfectly on WM5 and in landscape. It is a fab product, much easier and better features than all of the others I have tried.

If you want to stick strictly with VNC, go for the new PT Pocket Office.
BTW, I'll publish a BIG roundup & article of all these issues in the near future.

What does exactly happen? When does it refuse to run? Please elaborate - I know everything about all these services and remote access.
i seem to remember reading somewhere that it only works with an unmodified pocket internet explorer. It certainly works on my vario II.

It's indeed faster than other free VNC viewers but still consumes about 3 times more bandwidth than commercial solutions.

bandwidth for me isnt a concern, unlimited data plan plus a 6megx768k dsl line into my house... but do commercial solutions offer the same amount of control as VNC? just curious cause i do run a private FTP server out of my house and like the ability of total remote control over my pc when i am away... i believe i tried logmein.com about 4-5 months ago and dumped it, dont remember why, maybe cause i had to pay, but thats when i found a beta ppc version of RealVNC and have used that ever since.

PT offers built-in file transfer in the latest Pocket Office version and the author also promises clipboard synchronization. It's also much faster and consumes about 3 times less bandwidth.
Hopefully, I'll be able to publish my roundup of all remote access solutions the day after tomorrow - I'm still trying to hack the H/PC .NET RDC client (it's WAY more advanced than the native one on the Pocket PC) to the PPC.

What's exactly the problem? Do NOT trey to use it with RealVNC servers - it won't work. Use PTeSVNC instead.
Also, the config options are a bit overwhelming at first - I'll, of course, elaborate a LOT on them in my forthcoming roundup.

Hi All,
ive recently purchased a touch HD. At the moment it's quite naked and doesnt have many applications...
But a mate pointed out an application to me that came with the touch HD, the WorldCard Mobile. What a sensible application this is!!! i was amazed when it digitally copied a business card..
What other business applications are available on the touch HD that are a 'must have'?
On top of the list must be Softmaker 2008. Gives you full desktop features in creating and editing text document, spreadsheet and presentation.
Is SoftMaker2008 a freeware? do you have a link?
thanks

Nope. It is not free.
It all depends
It depends what you define business: I produce a lot of technical reports for my company and on accessions, I would like to the report to be read to me prior to it being finalised and approved. For that I use TextSpeech Pro by Digital Future. The voice is very natural far better than Microsoft SAM and others.
I also deal in French and Spanish and sometimes I am just too confused: for this I used SlovoEd extensive dictionaries, from mono to bilingual.
For sensitive data, I used Spb Wallet with nice interface and strong encryption – you also have eWallet.
I do not personally use this, but find it very interesting: Mobile Invoice - you create invoice, estimates on the move, with the ability to add signature on the move.
If you travel (extensively or not), you can make use of full itinerary programs with the ability to even display you the status of your flight (including all connections, hotel booking). For that I use Worldmate and an another option is Spb Traveler 2.
If you're business is not too complicated, you can even do your entire accounting using software such as Cash Organiser premium. There may be more suitable software, but I'm actually able to produce a Profit and Loss statement and Balance Sheet out of it, of course with a little massaging.
Keepass is a must: Free secure wallet.
pRSS Reader
pRSS Reader off course, the best RSS Reader I found sofar. Nice tweak possibilities, like font change, background colors etc. For you, to keep up with the latest business news...
Free to use.
I just got my X1, and the lag has got me down a bit :\
However, I'm still sure that its a great phone, and has tons of potential.
The thing is... before I got the phone, I had so many ideas of what I wanted to do with it. But now that I have it... I'm completely blank o_o
What have you guys been doing with your X1s?
How are you enjoying it?

The first thing is forget about the stock rom and try some cooked rom.
lol, well this is my first winmo phone, so I really dont know what I'm doing
No clue how to flash a new ROM and dont wanna risk bricking my phone by screwing up >.>
In addition to the regular texting and im'ing. I use it to listen to music watch movies, do quick editing on office suites, streaming with orb. Also used for taking photos and videos and uploading to facebook.
It all comes down to the apps I suppose.
Satnav
Podcasts (stupid word for audio streams)
RSS feeds
VNC
Minutes manager
Telemarketing blocker
C# IDE
It's like a little computer. There's not much it can't do. TV on demand would be nice.

That is awesome!!! Being a .Net developer myself, i'm excited to try this one out...
the best thing i do is to unlock everything on my rom without flash them so i dont have to void my warrenty and got touch flo 3d pannel, coreplayer to watch high quality movies, i got a 16gb to store all of them!
I currently use on my X1:
-Subsembly FinPhone (real mobile banking from all over the connected world)
-TTQV Pathaway (Moving Map and GPS Tracking Software)
-Basic4ppc Version 5.80 (BASIC IDE for PPC)
-complex Pocket Excel sheets i.e. for forecasts, financial calculations,
budgeting, event planning
And: I'd really like to try vsNotepad (by VirtualSpaghetti) but it suffers from an uncalibrated UI

Where do you guys find your programs? Ive only looked at places like handango and getjar.

Well it's a C# IDE. Very nice too. Get it from here, and see what you think. It doesn't need to be installed: it just runs.
Speaking of cool apps for PocketPC, PocketBlender is a great idea, but I find it unfinished and unstable. Does anyone know of other free CAD viewers?
TrackMe is nice. Again, I'd be interested to hear of alternatives since Trackme depends on .net and an SQLserver.
Nicetrack looks to be brilliant, but it doesn't work on the X1. Apparently only a minor source-code tweak is needed to fix this.

I just think what I want, then enter it into a search engine along with the words "for Windows Mobile" or "for PocketPC"

This seems like a good place to mention OBD II on the X1. Somewhat of a challenge since we need to use the MicroSDIO for a comm interface, and www.obd2cables.com have a minimum order of 250pc for custom cables. OBD II is the thing which mechanics use to look at what's gone wrong with your car. I've not had any luck starting topics on the subject.

I use it to access VNC computers or remote desktops. It's quite useful for FTP access too.
You can do pretty much what you want with it.
Though WVGA is great for VNC, remote desktop, FTP browsing, Corecodec, Xnview, TomTom, MSN (IM), and of course mails.
nothing as i amm still trying hard to tweak it LOL
Hi all,
I'm about to get my HD2, and I've been trying to track down a list of recommended apps for the handset. I've seen all the tweaks listed on XDA and so on, but I was looking for something more in the way of programs that would enable a better experience on the HD2. For a brand new phone, what would be recommended? Some I've picked up already, such BSB Tweaks, but what else could ppeople suggest?
Thanks!
David
Hi!
One thing in upfront. Please be gentle to your new beloved HD2 ;-)
You can use search and in the theme and application thread but here is some I use and don't wanna miss on my HD2 in future....
Resco File explorer (best explorer ever)
Core Player
Skyfire (for embedded flahs)
SPB Backup
Nimbuzz / Skype
BSBTweak as you said...
TomTom
Cheers,
LEE
hi Lee, i,m not brilliant with this sort of thing, where do I find Tom Tom and how do I apply it to my phone, hope you can help me
cheers aby
Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. What is a good program for doing the registry tweaks? I know Resco can do it, but what are the other options? What is a good program for backing up and restoring Data? What other suggestions do users have for a new phone?
Thanks!

Alternative to Resco Registry wourld be PHMRegEdit (free) but Resco is really a musthave !!!
For Backups i recommend SPB Backup (Best one in my opinion). Full Backups, PIM-Backups, Self-selected Backups etc etc
Rather than ask for random lists of 'best programs' you would be better using your new HD2 for a while and then seeing what you would like to add.
There are many thousands of programs out there, and there is probably no software class or profession that isn't catered for in some way.
As the previous posters have said, a good backup program (Spb or Sprite, with Spb being the better one at present), a better file manager (Resco or TotalCommander), a better media player (Coreplayer), an automated profile switcher (SBSH Phoneweaver) etc, etc.
But, try it 1st, out of the box. It may well do all you need
I´ve got TOMTOM 7, Torch (flashlight) and the most cool things is clear backgrounds, so that i can see my wallpaper better.
Searching: Core Player, Need 4 Speed, and a guide to use total comander.
If you're a Twitter user then I recommend Twikini - http://www.trinketsoftware.com/twikini/

moTweets, Swype, NoData.
Core Player
Skyfire (for embedded flahs)
Nimbuzz
BSBTweak
Garmin Mobile
Google Maps
Facebook (even with its limitations I prefer it to browser for 'quick looks')
Shazam
Run.gps
Pocket Scrobbler
Smabergs bluetooth/wifi toggle
Crayon Physics
Electopia/Xtract/Pangya
Zenonia (if you like old school RPGs)
FPSece
Thanks all for your help. Will use it for a bit and see what more I need as suggested. Can't wait to get it later today!
