use CorePlayer or TCPMP

Well - I'm using TCPMP but nevertheless I'm experience some lags during the playback.
Any solution?
Maybe some settings advices?

Record in avi?
Hey, any1 has any idea how to record in .avi? It seems the registry keys are there (HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/Camera/Recparam/)but the option to save as avi is missing..

The best player for avi is Coreplayer.
It's not freeware but it works like a charm.
Only reminder is that u don't want the polaris to play to high resolution avi's because it wil not work that good on this device.
Best is to remake a lower resolution avi (320x240) so it wil play perfect.
Or just recode it to a mp4 with the the max resoluiton of 640 x 480 and it wil also play perfect.

any solution to watch movies with subtitles on coreplayer?

I don't know about coreplayer but you can watch subtitles with TCPMP.
you can find everything here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345995&page=2

yep tcpmp became coreplayer - tcpmp was/is free, after gaining popularity they changed the name and made it chargeable, tcpmp still works fine for me.
people have different preferences on the converter (have a look about for one - i haven't done it for a while so can't remember which one i found best!)
but scaling down to 320x240 AND make sure you either choose an option to keep the original frame rate or as close to as possible (right click on the avi on the pc to check the properties - it's often 23.97) otherwise the picture struggles/pauses etc as sound and video no longer match or by choosing a higher frame rate than the original the converter puts in duplicate frames (which has pretty much the same effects)
hope it helps

Serious TCPMP Video issues on Hermes/TyTN...

Sorry guys, bad news. Sorry if this has already been posted and it has eluded me, but the hermes/TyTN cannot play your Divx/Xvid encoded AVI files in TCPMP!
I've read on some other forums that I am not alone in this area as during TCPMP installation, a pop message makes some mention of the on-board ATI imaging.....whatever. Point is the ATI stuff on the VarioII/TyTN interferes with TCPMP to the point of causing such interference that the interface is 'scrambled' almost like severe 'bad reception' to the point of being totally unuseable. I'm gutted. I've tried most versions of TCPMP includinc 0.71 and 0.72, but to no avail.
I've now tried for the first time other players, like PocketMVP, but no joy.
I was wondering if any TyTN/VarioII/VPA...owners have had a positive experience in this regard?
Specifically with their own Divx or Xvid encoded movie clips or full DVD's converted to such an AVI file.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. The developers of TCPMP are well aware of this as there are many posts on this topic in their forum but till now no solution.
Has anybody found an alternative player? And for those unfamiliar with this problem, NO Windows Media Player cannot handle Divx/Xvid AVI videos (which IMHO are the best quality video files on a PPC).

thank you VERY MUCH for that info. i was getting a bit worried that i wouldnt be able to play my videos with my new xda trion. i actually experienced better performance with the GDI video settings vs. the RawFramBuffer mode.

Thanks for that mdajax. Do you or anyone else know what the difference is between them?
Just set TCPMP to use Raw FrameBuffer or GDI through options -> video and it plays fine
ok video play but bad quality... and bad sound !!!!
Framebuffer mode outperforms GDI on varioII in TCPMP

When I first read this post, I thought little of it until I came across some stuttering on Video playback under GDI settings.
I decided to run a Benchtest under TCPMP in both modes, and on my VarioII, RawFramebuffer mode outperformed GDI mode by minimum of 50%. Additionally, under 'Media Information' of TCPMP, GDI mode played back the Mpeg1 video file at 18 fps compared to 33 fps in framebuffer mode (no stutters either).
It must be differences between the ROMs or other 3rd party Apps that is causing such a great degree of difference, but for now, I'm sticking to RAWFRAMEBUFFER mode.

looks and sounds great on mine. what kind of video files are you trying to play? what resolution/bitrate? if you're trying to play like an hr hdtv xvid file...then yea...your phone will have a hard time playing it.
i just use the psp or ipod video convertor to convert to 320x240, 768kbps...and it looks & plays beautifully.

The forementioned file was an MPEG 1 file @320x240 from pocketmovies.net, though usually I encode my own vids using DVDx and Divx Codec 6.0 @320x240 @ 400 or 500kbps and all play flawlessly. Presently though I can't test them coz I haven't received my Transflash card yet!
But hey, if it works for you, more power to ya. The other works better for me.
It's starts playing fine. But what happenes when you pause video and then play again? Mine is stuffers like hell, only solution is reload videofile....
Yep same here, works just great with video set to rawframebuffer and audio to anything, but after a puse or skip to later in the video audio stutters and the only resolution to it is reloading the file.
Same problem over here.
Even with BT radio off, I have the same scrambled view when selecting Ati.
Raw frame buffer works for video, but then I still have the audio skipping after pause.

those psp/ipod video convertor programs (videora to be exact) convert it to mpeg4 format, using h.264. i've never tried playing an mpeg1 file on my mda or trion, but you should at least test a converted mp4 video file on your device and see how it plays.
edit: i just ran a benchmark of an alicia keys video...hehe, which is mpeg4, h.264, 768kbps...and the test reported an avg. of 27fps.
right now mine works decently with the imate rom with rawframebuffer i can pause and play it (minor hiccup occurs but then its fine) much better than having to reload it every time.
but for the quality ( and use pause) i prefer use WM encoder....

It's not supported husain. But WMP10 can play it if the bitrate is not to exessive, but it will most likely be stuttery/jerky. It is after all the DVD format and requires hefty processing power to be smooth. Best bet IMHO is to use an encoder and use Divx or Xvid at whatever bitrate suits your needs. Anything between 500 - 768 kbps will look like DVD quality on a PPC QVGA device @320x240 resolution.

I have tried with various degrees of transcoding with VLC on my PC using VOD (RTSP protocol) which works fine on other pc over wifi around the house; although the video streaming client that comes with my MDA vario 2 does not recognise the stream, Has anyone had any sucess playing any RTSP stream? A tool to convert video to media player with hardware accelleration with mencoder

The main goal is to be able to use the hardware accelleration inside the X1. Or, only media player are able to!
Nor TCPMP or COREPLAYER use hardware.
But it was a pain in my ass to find a way to make a script able to convert a full directory fill with videos, with subtitles, and not to manage what is convert. And Free!
The way of thinking is:
I download a lot of free videos inside a unique directory, i have make this one the repository of my download.
I launch my script every night before sleeping
And I don't want to manage what is converted or not and i don't want to launch a application, i want something full auto...
So i make a full automation script.
I work under vista, so i'm not sure that's working under other windows.
it convert:
.avi
.mkv (with subtitles inside)
.flv
.mp4
.mpg
it takes subtitles:
.ass
.srt
.ssa
.mkv (it search inside itself)
to download:
http://dl.free.fr/qlBn0C2oj/ppc-conv.rar
clik on the "Télécharger ce fichier", sorry i'm french and don't know other file sender free
So how to do?
Extract the directory where you want
no need to setup anything
To convert:
1- you put your videos inside the dir VIDEOS
2- you start the "LANCE.BAT" inside main dir
3- you wait some hours
4- you transfer (with a copy! not a move) the .mp4 files inside the PMP dir on your X1
To clean when you have watch a video:
1- remove the files inside VIDEOS
2- on the next convert it will remove it from the PMP dir
Technical information:
Organization of the dir:
+---apps...........<- Main dir with the application
¦ +---.mplayer.....<- used by mencoder
¦ +---codecs.......<- used by mencoder
¦ +---mkvtoolnix...<- used for extract subtitles inside the mkv
¦ +---mplayer......<- used by mencoder
¦ ¦ +---conf.......<- used by mencoder
¦ ¦ +---font.......<- used by mencoder
¦ +---temp.........<- used for temporary step
+---pmp............<- where the final videos converted appears
+---temp...........<- used for temporary step
+---videos.........<- Where you put your videos and subtitles
Video are encoded into 640x360 1008kbit/s
Sound into aac 128kbit/s
works very fine in full screen
PS:
i share with you because i have try so much things and pass so much times to find a way, so i guess peharps someone else on earth wants this?
If you don't like it, don't download it
If you want more type of videos format send one to me and i will try
If you have problems says to me i will try to help but remember: it was a selfish script for me
Merci,
I will give it a try. I suppose that the settings wil give the greatest quality possible on an X1? ThanX once again

I bought core player. What are the best settings for it for the x1? Right now mine is on Outpu: qtv display
Video quality high
Smooth Zoom: only for 50%
Dither: off
Does it always use hardware acceleration or do I have to turn it on?
Thanks!

you cannot have hard accel with any other application than media player.
So you need to make a special mp4 file to be able to read it with it. It's the goal of my script
There is a huge gap in quality between them.
Really? I thought the whole point of core player was codecs and hardware aceeleration. I guess I'll give your script a go then.
Thanks.

core : qtv w tytn driver, high, dither/no = no real effect
buffers default except audio 128
sync audio w .avi in adv setting
vid xvid/divx around 600-650 x 300-350 res
bitrate around 800-1K kbps
audio mp3/aac 2chnl around 120kbps
it's not 100% smooth but enjoyable
I just tried Videora, a free iPod videoconverter.
Videora Website
Settings for Videora:
1. Power mode.
2. Choose File to convert.
3. Choose Destination Folder.
4. Choose a Title for the converted movie (Optional)
5. Choose Device = iPhone 3G
6. Choose Profile = MPEG4 480x320 768kbps Stereo/128kbit 2-Pass
7. Press Start Converting
Works really good, the video runs really smooth.

driver? does is it mean that you add something to your coreplayer?
no it's provided in coreplayer, in fact it's the default set in core if you're using qtv output in core.
try hard reset and install core again from fresh start; i've got some problems too a while ago and wasn't able to playback any video correctly at all; after hard reset those problems are gone.
Not to bug again about this, but doesn't CorePlayer not support Hardware acceleration on the XPeria? Doesn't Sony's player support it?
Many thanks nusul - I will give this a try! Appreciate your work on this

tried AVI/MP4 files in Video folder, no luck
Sorry, I have read this thread but I still have to ask for proper confirmation; you only get HW acceleration with Windows Media Player? So not when using the SE Media Experience panel?
I ask because I find the panel much faster when playing video than with Media Player (which takes at least the 1st five seconds of a movie to switch to landscape!!)

The best is imho Total Video Converter 3,14 . It can do everything. And the best settings are 1000bitrate 128 audio bitrate , mp4 and hv264 and 800x480 resolution. Play it in Album.
djschumi ocketdivx encoder is pretty bad... it cant convert into mp4, so you must play it in coreplayer => no chance for WVGA resolution.
jetjockgordo: I will try that maybe. But the only thing my total video covnerter is missing is 2pass option.
I tried DVD Catalist - excelent converter with only one missing. Subtitles are supported only for DVD, not for DiVX/XViD (.sub .srt etc).
Thanks anyway!

I would suggest contacting their tech support. Mitch responds in a few hours and he might have a work around or another suggestion to get it to do what you want.

As you experienced with Total VC, other converters are hit-and-miss when it comes to usability/stability that is why I like DVDCatalyst, it has never crashed and works perfectly on my Vista 64 system.
Good luck!

I have the m900 and am trying to adjust the output dimensions in pocketDivXencoding. When I click resize it gives to windows with what I guess are aspect ratios. Bit its strange that there are 2 windows. I have tried to adjust 1 of them to 800X480 and I can get close but when I click apply it goes back to the previous screen stating the output will be something like 468X472.

Hey,
HD Video converter is one of the best video converters that can very easily convert the video files into some of the most popular video formats. This is one of the best converters that can perform multiple works at one time. This converter can perform:
Part 1: Edit and Rip DVD Movies to popular video formats.
Part 2: Convert HD TS, MTS, M2TS, MKV, MPEG, MPG, H.264 video
Part 3: Convert Video with DRM Protection.
Thank You.
For me the best video converter there is Flash to Video PRO.

Touch HD Movie Player - Best?

Hi All,
I have tried searching for MP4 and AVI in the forums, but search results came up with nada.
Can someone please assist me with the BEST movie player for the Touch HD and how to encode the files?
I am currently using Slysoft CloneDVD Mobile. I selected Windows Smartphone as my encoding template, loaded the DVD, and built the AVI file. All went good.
I then copied it across to my Touch HD and tried to play it in WMP but get an error "Cannot play file" without any further details.
Any ideas people?
TIA
Sounds like a missing codec problem to me. i had the same with playing xvid movies. i use tcpmp player now instead of wmp, but am looking for a nicer prog.
I find Coreplayer to be the best using the DivX converter set to Mobile for compressing. It will compress most files and even convert AC3 files for use.
The playback is smooth whereas the actual DivX mobile and old TCPMP players seem to have a 1 second slight glich in playback (shown when a video is panning across a scene).
I have also found that if you use a File Explorer with Network access such as Resco Explorer, you can set the default player to be Coreplayer and play these files from any Network drive. I use an ASUS WLHDD2.5 small wireless hard drive with 100Gb capacity and can store loads of Music, movies and photos on it.
Ensure that Coreplayer can actually play the file type first or an error will occur.
Map your Network drive in Resco Explorer (follow the distructions..)
Select and hold the file to play in Resco, select open, Open with and then select Coreplayer.
Viola.
you might want to try the blackstone video encoding gui (search on this forum) to convert movies to mp4 and then play them via windows media player or tf3d video player. To date, those two players are the only ones capable of playing video using hardware acceleration
I use MP4forHD encoder software. Very good and clip quality very good. Playback using default Album player that comes with THD.

What is the point for having 5.1 on a mobile device, it's not like you can output to TV anyways.
The point is to watch existing movies with AC3 soundtracks without spending hours to reconvert them first.

Rhodium Video very very poor

I am trying to play downloaded DVD movies on my Rhodium and i presume its using Windows Media, the playback is sluggish and the sound is not in sync with the playback, is this the best i can expect after spending £500 or is it just that i need another media player? Shooting video and playing back seems fine the problem is when i convert a DVD the playback is pretty appalling, ANY HELP FROM ANYONE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

What format are the movies you're downloading? What are you using to convert them? Are the downloaded movies in sync? How about the converted ones? If you play them on your PC, are they synced up?
Check the resolution of the movie. Make sure it is 640x480. You don;t want to have the CPU doing all the resizing as the movie is being played. Some format may be better than the others too. And try with WMP. I believe it has hardware acceleration built-in.
Still I would love the phone be able to play HD 720p videos natively. Maybe one day.

amen! lol anyways ya you just arent formating the dvd'rips very well then cause i have a few full dvd's playing in perfect quality and timing on WMP and that's not even the best player to use
Use core player, it works fine with most videos (far better than the standard app)
Vio
try VIO Video Converter for your DVD conversions and select full quality. The file sizes are large but the quality and audio/video sync is superb.
Core Player is great and I consider 640x384 to be the optimal resolution for playback. Get a good video encoder and experiment for yourself though.
Use Super C to resize the video and then coreplayer to play it, no problems at all!
I can play 800x480 AVC @1.2Mbit/s through HTC Media Player smoothly. In Coreplayer I can't even get 1 FPS out of that file. I use MEGUI with the Zune settings to convert the video from a Bluray format.
As far as I can see, there isn't a good option right now, unless someone can say/prove otherwise.
For example: I have an AVI encoded with Divx 5 636*346, avg bitrtate 900, mp3 stereo. I can get this to play smoothly on much older hardware (a Palm TX), without conversion, via TCMPC.
So, WHY can't I find a player that works smoothly on the TP2?
I've read that the TP2 can handle avg bitrates up to 1,400 kbps; and it doesn't make sense to re-encode at a screen res lower than the bloody device.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

I can play 800x480 AVC @1.2Mbit/s through HTC Media Player smoothly. In Coreplayer I can't even get 1 FPS out of that file. I use MEGUI with the Zune settings to convert the video from a Bluray format.

As far as I can see, there isn't a good option right now, unless someone can say/prove otherwise.

What I don't understand is that Coreplayer on my device has a verry low FPS. BUT when selecting the Benchmark function, the movie will play beautiful... (Only the movie and sound synchronisation is not so best...)
Anybody a working solution? On a different forum, i've read that HTC Album has the best hardware acceleration. They adviced to play movies with thc album (In the mp4 format)

It come on the device. HTC Album
i just can't imagine that there is no possibility to play normal divx/avi movies on my tp2 .. just like on pc.
i don't want to waste my time converting all videos just to watch it on tp2 ..
same prob with subtitle support .. can't be that difficult ?! only tcpmp can play them with an extension .. (and that video playback isn't smooth!)
http://kinoma.com/
give that a try and let us know if you are happy or not please
kinoma doesn't support divx/xvid
i use a free program called handbrake and my settings are 480x320,mpeg4,480 biterate-Audio,AAC 160 biterate. i actually used these settings on my G1 originally but when i got my TP2 i tried a few of the movies out since they wur already on my memory card and they all play and sound great on the default player.
im using coreplayer and ive not had a problem playing any movie downloaded from the net. anything from 700mb to 1.6mb dvd rips, ive watched probably 60 odd and they've all played perfectly. never had to convert anything.
coreplayer is definetely the best thing to get supports pretty much everything
i only use the album player for converted hd content (using the converter someone made on this site) = that plays excellent as well, and looks better (i might be ight in thinking album uses hardward acceleration as well)

Change "Video Output" to GDI if the player is choppy/crappy. On my Telus (CDMA) Touch Pro 2 the QTv Display works fine but I know other HTC devices have required GDI instead.
The playback on this phone sucks big time! Not sure what it is .... coreplayer GDI does not work and Tcpmp with all kinds of tweaks settings does not play videos smooth at all. You can tell there are frame skipping in my phone. My wing plays videos better than this. GEEZ!!!!!
