Due to its big display, battery of BA often drains very fast so we need powerful supply. A guy from PDAviet has come up with a new solution. He uses two Nokia BL 5C standard battery to make better, longer & more powerful batt than the original one.

Give it a try and see. It's very easy. This new modded batt much better than original BA one. Sorry for my English.
Great !!!
That means I have a chance to "repair" my battery for low price
Thank You Very Much!!
If anyone made it , please write here how it works ( how much time BA is working on this modded battery)
Thx
good idea
hi,good idea but there is 4 poles in BA,and nokia hav 3 poles,how did u connect the 2 batteries?i think parallel,but the poles,and + & -,how did u know?give us good map to connect it exactly,thnx
plz refer to the link (google translated) for more details. After unhousing the BA batt (using a knife to remove the batt label), you will see the 2 separated connectors (-) and (+) in the small circuit -which tells the phone when the batt is fully charged.
on the BL-5C, there are 3 poles, but you only need to care about the (+) one, which you can find printed on the shell. the (-) is the metal core of the batt.
just open the BA batt and you can find it easy (with the help of the pictures above)
thnx
but there is a simple question,we need for this circuit? or we dont use it?
and the current will icrease twice,i think, thnx
You dont need to remove the small circuit like in the pic above, just keep it and use two original connectors of the batt if you like. have a look:
The original BA batt also contains two small batt (like two BL-5C) but with smaller capacity to make a total of 1490mAh.
You can replace these two original batts with other two 1020mAh BL-5C to make a total power of 2040mAh. Remember that the total capacity of the two new batts shouldn't exceed 2000mAh as the chager can stand a maximum of 2000mAh.
so nice
nice work, thnx for this good idea,i will try it,it is will increase the time of the battery work time, thnx again.
we need to keep the curcuit as it will tell the fone the remain power of the batt and when it is fully charged. if you are noobie, just keep the original connectors. or you use a soldering tool to solder the wire directly to the circut (like the illutrastions)

2020mAh is the battery capacity (see - it says mA-hour) and 2000mA is maximum charging current (for the charger, it is about 300mA when you charge it on USB). So if you put bigger battery - it will take longer to be fully charged. I'm planing to put 4 cells for a long time, but I'll have to make a bigger plastic back for the battery.
p.s. while removing allu-battery cover, you will certainly break some little plastic holders so it will look a little messy, but when you put it on the phone it looks as new
how to tell if your mod battery is indeed 2020mAh ?
that means long working time and long charging time.thnx
great tutorial, maybe i will try it on my old batteryes

No problem, I have a 2000mAh charger It's usually fully charge the standard BA battery within 20-30 minutes

Neat! Let us know how that works out. I have an extended battery as well (about 2.5 years old) and I believe that it is beginning to loose some steam, so I would consider doing that if it truly works...

WOW! Nice one. This is good news for me. Got lots of old nokia phones here with BL-5CA batteries 3.7v. I'll give it a try. If something bad happened please send flowers to my house. LOL will report back...
as of now here's what I've got.
Sorry for the big pic size...now I am having a hard time disassembling nokia batteries...
keep us posted on this red hanks. this kind of stuff excites me.

That's silly. It would fit in the fashionable case that is provided for you.
And since the Wizard is strapped to my belt on my right side, I might start walking all crooked-like.
dang that's pretty ugly - and I bet that edge will get snagged on everything. Shame, larger battery would be nice, though I haven't had any need for one so far, if I were to let BT and WiFi on a lot, I bet I would %)
good joke!
I will prefer to use universal instead if this battery caming with original package.
no one wull buy it rite ?
I was tempted, but I did say in whatever thread that was in that I'd rather like to see the pictures first. I knew they said it was going to need a new cover, but this is a whole new rooftop
I'd much sooner go with the Adapt Charge & Go. Takes a single AA battery. Won't do much for extending the battery for long periods, but if you just need a quick fix if your battery is otherwise near-dead and you're not near any wall socket or computer to charge with, it'd be ideal.
There's a review at the Dutch PocketInfo site. I can translate if needed, but I think the pictures roughly say it all; there's no real benchmarks to speak of (I blame the battery analyzing apps for this - none will graph recharging. boohiss.)
http://www.pocketinfo.nl/artikel/5329
Next to a wizard it's still bulky, but at least it won't be permanently attached
Another alternative is to get a 2nd regular battery. Charge one, replace with the other, keep the charged one in whatever carrying case you've got, and if you really need it - turn off device and replace battery. It's a hassle either way
zeboxx,
Please keep an eye on that. Never seen it before and I was hoping it would come out (wouldn't a 9v version be better?).
Can't tell what the price or availability is but definately want one!
thanks for the link!
McHale.. there's another variant out there that uses 4 AA batteries - gets a bit bulky, though. It is indeed curious that there doesn't seem to be a 9V battery type
Looks ugly...I wonder why they had to make it so big. There are other 2000 and + out looking thiner.
heh.. gluing two of the original batteries together is thinner Problem is you can't do that :x Stupid 'smart' batteries
Just ordered a 2200mah battery from below link. looks thinner and only 25 pounds. (money not weight !) will let you know how I get on.
I luv it when you order new stuff

meschle - if you can post a picture after hooking it up, that'd be grand
yeh zeboxx I can do that should be interesting. if too thick prob send it back seller said I can.
Though may still keep as backup on long journey I will see.

Got any pics for us yet? Cheers
This is the gpsforless 2200mah battery. It still fits in the belt case supplied by Tmobile uk although it then gets a little loose for when it has the supplied battery. I like it. The cover fits nicely but this is not a small battery.
I'd be curious to see some test results. That 2200 one doesn't look that much smaller than the 2600 one. I'm all over this though, I don't mind it being that thick as long as I get a week battery life with normal usage. THAT WOULD BE SWEET!!!
Sorry for the delay in pics guys but also wanted to test battery and try with different cases. The battery is bigger than expected but not as big or thick as mugen 2600 mah. the cover seems a bit larger than it should be - it may be possible to trim it but have not tried.
Found that with battery in and leather case on - no battery cover, things not so bad and only slight bulge at back. With cover supplied I wouldn't show my phone in public lol
here are my battery tests
Wizard battery
Standard 1250 Mah
25% loss 2.5 hours browsing
60% loss 5 hours browsing plus some game, radio, omap 240 15 mins
Extended 2200 Mah (75% more Mah)
20% loss over 2.5 hours browsing
40% loss 5 hours browsing plus some game, music, omap 240 15 mins
44% loss 7 hours browsing reconfig ppc
46% loss 8 hours browsing reconfig ppc.
60% loss 9.5 hours browsing (nearly double standard battery)!
80% loss 11.5 hours browsing
90% loss 12 hours browsing
All browsing was continuous and on gprs.
Fairly impressive I thought for a 25 pounds sterling battery!
here are the pics - taken with my spv c500 so apologize for quality
The case btw is a modified krussell case meant for magician but works for wizard.
In short then decided to keep the battery - I wish it was slimmer but no other available extended batteries in the uk I can find and at the price can't comlain
Thank god my small batery has it's own nuclear plant inside. No need for such bulky experiments
So is it still that size or is there now a new boy or girl phone?
Not only is the Wizard my first PDA phone but I made the switch from a Motorola Razr. I'm still trying to get over having a brick of a mobile phone and the thought of another brick riding piggyback on that just makes me downright nauseous.
Batteries performance degrade overtime so are we able to change A500 battery if it is degraded or can we even upgrade it with a higher capcity in order to achive better performance?
Is their a tutorial for such procedure?
UPDATE: I would like to thank bvdrax for his help we are one stop closer to understanding our tablets

I was thinking about that this past weekend. That's one of the few things that I would like, that it currently doesn't have (a user replaceable battery). Although, I would imagine that we could find a battery that would work with it and replace it, if we didn't mind opening it up and voiding the warranty!

Of course the battery may be soldered in, at which point even if getting the case apart without an issue is easy enough a soldering job would be needed. I would guess the warranty would be long since over by the time our batteries start going.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
google openiong iconia or something like that
There is a walk thru I Sen a week or so ago on replacing battery and so on. I think this device snaps together at the seems at top and bottom. Ibhave notices the button of mine is a bit wider crack then the top. So I do think this makes sense.
By the time my A500's battery dies enough for me to care, I fully expect to have replaced the tablet itself. My Droid's 2yo battery hilds up fine still under much harder use (including hotter processor and case temps from overclocking and from living in a car mount.)
There is a post on androidtablets.net that shows the tablet partly dissembled. I can't post the link because I don't have 8 posts.
I pulled the battery out of mine just now. It is not soldered in. The case came apart very easily using a pampered chef plastic orange peeler, and just easing it into the seam and following it around.

The back of my box said 3260mAh x 2 ( 24.1 Wh ) ... is there 2 batteries ??
you mind taking pictures showing the steps of dissecting this baby ??
BTW ... that attached pic is way too small to see anything ( at least I saw the plug...that's a good thing )
Once I find the good camera I will take some better pics of how to tear it apart.
Try the link below for a better pic.
I am pretty sure this little plastic job has 2 batteries in it, as it looks to be segmented into two compartments. Also, the leads seam to indicate two batteries.

Thank you in behalf of all the Acer Iconia owners who are curious to see how we can crack this one open. You are one brave individual for trying and succeeding and making it possible for us to see how easy it is to do so. More reason to love the Iconia, replaceable battery!
Let us know if you find a Mini PCI-E slot while you're digging in there.
thanks BVDRAX! Great job man!
The average Li-on battery carries a ~3 year useful life. More likely than not, three years from now most of us will have a different tab and you'll still be able to use yours over a/c.

If you look at the 3rd link (or second link in the stills) there is a spot for a standard mini pci-e card, however there is no socket installed and looks like there is a number of electronic compnents missing which are associated with it
You are a brave soul. Thanks for risking your warranty to show us how to do this!
thx bvdrax!
Wow, great video and pics. Thanks a lot, good to know whats in there and how to get there.
HELP!!! Okay so I don't know if my problem is fixable, but here goes. My mom dropped her samsung focus in water and it stopped working so she bought a new one and gave me the one that was submerged in water. I took it apart and saw calcium deposits on the area where the lcd connects to the mother board so I cleaned it up with isopropyl. I turned the phone on and voila it worked. I'd been having trouble connecting it to my computer however and one day it was dying and I just let it die and ever since then It only went to the Samsung screen. I tried flashing the original rom cuz I assumed it bricked it self somehow but that didn't work. So anyway I decided to open it back up and i noticed that it looked like the cmos battery (I assume that's what it is) had some deposits built up on it so i tried scraping it off with a screw driver. In the process the whole battery pretty much separated from the mobo. I tried soldering it back down but I'm not sure if it has a good enough connection or if maybe the battery is no good as it looks pretty corroded. The stupid thing looks like its been spot welded to the metal arm that attaches to the mobo so I'm not even sure if I can replace it. The phone still boots up but hangs on the Samsung screen. Does anybody have any advice or interest in buying it for parts? I've been trying to get it running so I can sell it on ebay anyway. Any info will be much appreciated.
I'd suggest ordering a cheap battery from ebay or elsewhere, just to make sure that's where your problem is. Why sell it for a price lower than it's potentially worth because you can't verify that it still works 100%, when you can pick up a cheap battery, verify it (either way), then sell it as a working phone (or if it isn't the battery, act accordingly)?
Just my $0.02. I only say this because I've had good luck with "Aniker" batteries I got in a 2-pack+independent wall/usb/battery charger on ebay. The charger has the capability to charge a battery in the phone (micro-usb) AND/OR, charge a battery in it's battery port built in to the charger. Cost me about $20, definitely worth two extended-life (1800 vs 1500) batteries and charger that all work perfectly.
But, and I figured I'd add this, I don't know if the difference you could sell it for running vs your current description is worth the batteries and trouble. I wish I could help you with your hardware question, but I'm afraid I'm pretty ignorant in the design of batteries themselves.

Well you see its not the regular battery. Its the tiny cmos battery attached to the motherboard and the two metal arms are spot welded to the battery so I don't even know how to get the battery out without completely ripping the arms off the motherboard.

Strange thing. So I left the phone plugged into the wall charger today and left for a good 10 hours and when i came back the phone was on and in perfect working order, except for not being able to get it to connect to zune. I took it apart again to take pictures of the cmos battery and when I put it back together I had the same problem as before with it stopping at the Samsung screen. Anyway, heres those pictures.

Most of the guys here at XDA are familiar with the hardware components inside Iconia tablets as well as very fond of all hardware weaknesses and strengths of that particular device.
As no surprise its battery capacity is …I would say, insufficient for that kind of a portable device especially given what brilliant job the engineers from apple had been done to Ipads.
Anyway, let’s move on the subject of this post.
The original battery has the specs as follows: 7.4V ,3260mAh .
My experience was quite straight forward – 3.5 hours video playback (display 60% dimmed down) ,4.5 hours wifi browsing/downloading , after 8 hours in stand by ( Wifi ,GPS turned off) battery drained about 25 percent .
That’s very close to a regular notebook and is not exactly what I expected from a 3G / Wifi tablet.
The good news is that not only Acer’s devices are paired with short lasting batteries, so no one should regret choosing Iconia tab, and even better news is about to come soon if we can craft our own supporting battery and make this gadget work overnight .
The battery charger is providing current of 12V 1.5A (1500mAh) and 12V is happen to be one of the most popular voltage used in cars and therefore wide range of cars accessories as well as security cameras and so forth. A brief eBay search led me to a Chinese made super duper battery for security cameras which may be my happy ticket. 12V 9800mAh sounds like a spoon of honey to me. Of course the battery pack looks horrible (OEM cells, blue PVC insulating tape) but it cost less than you might think.
If paired with fancy spiral cable and appropriate DC jack this 350g battery may fit comfortably in your leather belt pouch and feed your lovely monster tab for about 6 + hours
The real power consumption of the tab is about 3260mah / ~3.5h = 800-1000 mA
After simple math we may see that battery with 9800mAh may charge the tab for about 6.5 hours
So my way of thinking is with fully charged internal and external batteries we have about 3.5 hours internal capacity then charge for about 1.5 hours (totally 5 hours ) then another 3.5 hours on internal battery then charge 1.5 hours and so forth until the supporting battery pack is almost drained. If the math in the following chart is correct we may recharge the internal battery up to 4 times without being chained to the wall socket

So my hope posting this thread is that someone might like to join me in this experiment and share the results. I’m not an electrician and perhaps I may be wrong about my expecting results but if so, I’d like to be advised by someone who knows more than me and would like to put his/her contribution to get this mission complete
Uh. You didn't post a single question, what do you expect? Someone to confirm that yes, the external battery can be used to charge the tablet once you make a proper cable for it?
Yes, it can be used for that. And yes, it'll provide several hours of extra mileage.
It's the general section, no question required. Its a discussion, get over yourself.
Edit, I see it weighs 300 grams, pretty light. Do you have a link?
Sent from my Acer Iconia A500 using Tapatalk
I think it's a pretty sound idea. My question would be, how do you charge the external battery pack?
Most devices have an internal voltage regulator, that shuts the connection when a battery is sufficiently charged to prevent over-charging. Without this little device, you could overcharge your extra battery and possibly explode it.
Charging units (comes with the tab) only convert from AC to DC, not regulate the cut-off supply, at least as far as I know. So you would have to devise a method to supply the correct amperage and voltage, and, shut off when charged.
I got one of these external battery packs. I keep it in my backpack, and it'll recharge my tablet and phone several times over.

Thanks! I will save that and order one soon, as I am looking to do a prolonged photo shoot with my tablet in "follow-mode" displaying the shots as I take them, and was looking for a reliable way to keep it juiced.
Hi all hardware mod experts/hobbyists.
As we are all moderate to heavy phone users, we need a phone with a good battery life that won't die before evening. However, everyone seems stick to a hone that could work with screen on less than 6hrs, even 3000mah won't help much.
Now, I want to add 1 or 2 more batteries connect in parallel to my current stock batteries. I hope it would multiply the juice, however I would concern about Charging Voltage, safety charging current from Charging IC inside the phone, and Charging Duration. Of cause, adding extra battery will make your phone Fat, ugly and heavy but we have better battery life.
battery type : norminal voltage of Li-ion 3.6v or 3.7v, Li-Po 3.8v and some other battery even mention 3.9v or 4.0v .
Full charge :4.2v.
Charge voltage 4.2v
Current : depend on the phone
duration = capacity / current
Please upload your modified phone by add extra batteries, with your usage experience.
i found this for iPod Touch 6th Gen. He modified by soldered another battery on the back for tripple battery life
I think it is better to use a power bank, safe, easy, maybe not convenient

I'd recommend to if you're gonna add another battery do it with another of the same type because phone Power Manangment IC could have troubles trying to read two or three, if wanted, different batteries, in some cases they have different data read pins(the ones that are not positive and negatives)

If connecting batteries, they should be same voltage and amperage. To get longer run times at the same voltage you connect both positive together, and both negatives together. If they are the same, lets say 3000 mah, then you while get 6000mah. Approximately twice the run time. If one battery is 1500mah, and the other is 3000mah, then you will only get 3000mah when they are connected. They will both only charge to 1500mah, or the lower amperage. If you connect the batteries from one positive to the other negative, on a 3.2 volt battery, then you will double the voltage to 6.4volts and blow out circuits on your device. Personally, I carry solar charged battery packs. I also have an AGM battery for a lawnmower that is 300amps, which will charge my phone for weeks. Any questions feel free to ask. I was a yacht mechanic, so I had to install and fix DC and AC portable power systems.
You better try some software optimization to get a better battery life, like a custom ROM & kernel, root your device,a good app for battery & performance boost which personaly use is called greenfy and it realy improves the battery life by hibernating apps, anyway 3000 mAh should be enough for most phones and better you lose your warranty rooting it,not trying to burn your phone's circuits with other batteries
Hi ! got 5000mah battery installed on my OP3, but it still says OP_3000mah.. How to modify this? Does this need to be rooted? Thanks!
Hi,
I recently did this to a Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 that I had multiple units of. One had a good screen and a battery, but the board was dead. The other one had a dead LCD and no battery. I turned them into one.
All you need to do is make sure that the voltage of the batteries is about the same, and then just solder the + of the first one to the + of the second one and the - of the first one to the - of the second one. Make sure to solder it to the pins beyond the battery controller, so that the second battery doesn't overheat or expand. Then just insert/solder the whole thing into the phone. DON'T use cells without a charge controller.

This is what I did with the housing afterwards. I screwed 2 separate frames together, which allowed me to house the second battery with no problem. No glue was used and this is very solid.
The pictures are old, I later put a camera lens on it and a new back. I also got a separate NFC antenna, which I stuck on the top battery since the original antenna is on the bottom one.
I hope this helps.
And as for the battery capacity being displayed in the phone, I'm sure most applications such as AccuBattery or Ampere just display the capacity according to the model of the phone. I know that phones CAN measure the voltage of the battery (or batteries in our case), but I'm not entirely sure about phones being able to measure the capacity of the battery on their own. I know my modded phone displays 2300mAh despite the actual capacity being around 4400mAh after the mod.
