doeas anybody knows if there is a solution fr XDA or any PDA from the major operators Vodafone, Orange similar to those on desktop PC ?
it's called accelerator, macara client, optimiser ....
Decebal
Ummm i never thought of it but i dont think improving GPRS speed can be done by software...
i hope there would be something like this but i dont think its feasible...
the technology is available
http://www.bytemobile.com/html/Client_products.html
this is the producer and it already has a desktop software considered revolutionary.
it is implemented by vodafone, orange, t-mobile ... and i have the PC version. i was looking for the PDA version

Such a software exists. My norwegian provider NetCom has one availiable here http://www.netcom.no/Content/images/aksel_pics/netcom_ce.exe
I have no idea how it works, or if it is operator specific, but I had no trouble with it (except that it takes up valuable RAM)

Thanks, I guess that's probably what I'm looking for. But can you tell me if you're using on an XDA and how did you installed it. I cannot get it running. Also if there are some settings to do.
Thanks again,
Decebal
I tried that one and didn't really get it working, but even worse, now can not completely get it uninstalled!
In the Applications screen there's still an "Akselerator" Icon I can not delete. If tapped it says it can not find the application "Spawner" connected to that icon. Wierd.
What can I do?

before i go ahead and buy the orange m3100 version of the tytn, can anyone tell me how easy it is to remove all the installed orange rubbish from it? and will it void the warranty if i do so? or it it best just to live with it?
never had a windows based phone before
cheers!
If you mean the orange branded home screen rubbish that they seem to love putting on most of their phones then this is quite easy, just go into the today screen settings, items, and untick the orange option, this will see you back to a normal pda.
cool! didn't realise it was that easy!
thanks!
I haven't had direct experience with an Orange device but I do know that it is not quite that simple with an o2 device. If you change homescreen, all it does it change the theme rather than get rid of the o2 UI (which takes up about half the screen whic useless links and icons!).
However the solution to this is not too complicated either. All you need to do is do a hard reset and then do a soft reset before the extended ROM installs. This will definitely leave you with a non-branded device, although you might have to reinstall one or two useful apps that get installed with the extended ROM (eg. when I did it I had to reinstall the smart dialler).
Hope this helps and apologies to Nightshot if I am wrong about Orange devices. As I said I haven't had to do this on an Orange device.
To really get shot of it you can soft reset your device after the initial setup but before the customisation setups run. This will stop the Orange customisation running and leave you with a vanilla WM5 device.
Then you can install the cab files in extended rom without installing the orange customization CABs.
You can find instructions on how to access your extended rom on the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unhide_Extrom
If you do it, please post your extended rom here (we still don't have the orange ExtROM contents!):
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms
nice one.
thanks to all for the info.
pof: i don't actually have one yet - just wanted to make sure i wasn't making a mistake getting an orange branded device that i couldn't de-customise.
thanks!
i've just done it
got a m3100 today and removing the orange stuff is one of my 1st jobs. I removed the xda 2i o2 stuff by registering as a corporation but saw no kind of option on the m3100. I deselected orange from the today options and set it to windows default. I dont know if still having the orange stuff on device will cause slow down. doesn't appear too.
I did this to allow me to sync with my Mac but I now don't have my MMS settings and video calling.
How do you get around this?

You did what? Not installing the customized CABS (e.g. the Ext ROM)?
If so, you need to get a copy of the Ext ROM for your orange, and find the file that is responsible for the MMS and Video calling. You can either search in this forum (not sure if there is), or just guess by their names.
I hard reset then prior to the orange customisation/ cabs loading did a soft reset - the 'phone works fine apart from mms and video messaging. I've tried running the MMS cab from Extended ROM, then soft resetting - loading onto device but this doesn't bring MMS back.
Any ideas?
I've been playing this weekend, first downgrading the ROM with 1.04 bootloader, so I could upgrade to the latest HTC x.35 ROM. Having done that and upgraded the radio to the latest version as well, I find I still have one issue.
I've combed through all the registry hacks and have flipped the right bits and entered the appropriate keys/strings and yet I can't get this phone to display anything but "ROGERS" (302720) on the today screen. I was successful changing the operator name on my HTC Herald before sending it off to a friend, but this unit will not cooperate.
Anyone have some hints on where else (obscure if necessary) I can look to make this thing display what I want?
I've never been able to do this either on the Hermes
I kinda think I'm missing the point here...but I got rid of most of my Cingular logos simply by simply downloading all the stuff in my 8525's \windows directory to my pc, and finding all the gif's, png's and jpg files that were Cingular logos. Then I loaded those graphics into photoshop and made transparent images of the same size and properties, saved them back using the original names, and reloaded them to the original locations on the 8525. Restart, and voila, no more Cingular branding.
Maybe this will work in your case?

No actually, this has nothing to do with the files on the phone, except that the tweak to change the Operator Name given the right registry value (302720) should work, but doesn't.
OK ... never mind. But I'm confused by what you're asking. You actually have Rogers branding on your Today Screen? Where does it appear?
Maybe this is something Cingular didn't implement? (Thankfully?)
Sorry I couldn't help. (wish there was an icon for "embarrassed"),
No, not branding, it's just displaying "Rogers" on the homescreen when I'd prefer to dictate what it displays.
Cruisin1966 - Rogers name is part of SimCard, you wan't change it.
Same was here - non VoiceStream (or current T-Mobile US) cards said VoiceStream (T-Mobile US), VoiceStream (T-Mobile US) cards said VStream (T-Mobile).
It is part of SIMcard and if your's OTA operator can change name as they want.
Hope this help
No disrespect intended, but please re-read my original post. I successfully changed the name displayed on the homescreen with the HTC Herald, and my question was why can't I changed the name displayed on this 8525.
Cruisin1966 - Question: Does Rogers has 3G network so your phone could log in there?

3G isn't available anywhere but around Toronto, as far as I know. Definitely not in/near Calgary, that much I do know.
Cruisin1966 - hmmm I thought that it might be OpName over UMTS but now it might be just imposible to change SIM directive in this model. I have the same problem with Cingular or T-Mobile.
Lets wait for official aku 3.3 and then we can go back to this discussion.
Hi everybody,
I have my Cingular 8525 unlocked that I m currently using with Rogers. It's all set with MMS, email, and internet
The Cingular 8525 comes also with mobiTv but if I click on the prog it proposes me the mobitv service from USA by default.
There is no way so far that I can change the url by default, the program is in the Rom of the device and the only way I guess, will be to touch the register key of my Cingular 8525 .
I know that my device is not officially supported by Rogers but i m sure that we can find the way to make it happen
If anyone have an idea, may be a app that i can download from Rogers , or to give me the right url for this service from my device, let me know
Thank you in advance for your help
Nobody ?
Well, I'm a bit puzzled. According to MobiTV site it is only available in the US.
"Cingular customers: if you prefer, you may purchase MobiTV directly from your MediaNet device menu by selecting Entertainment / More Sites / MobiTV.
Product Features
Channels you know from home like ABC News Now, CSPAN, and FOX Sports (click here for the full channel lineup)
High quality video
Graphical channel guide with programming information
Full screen viewing option
Touchscreen and 5-way navigation
Note: Service available in U.S. only. Data charges apply. We strongly recommend you have an unlimited data plan with your carrier before buying MobiTV.
As it costs $9.99 / month, I'm sure they give you a programme download which would replace the one you have IF it works elsewhere.

I believe Handango or another major PPC software vendor sold these, and billed you directly. This was before but you could try.
Not allowed in Canada...

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) -- our equivalent of the US FCC -- does not allow the re-transmission of broadcast material by unlicenced carriers, so no MobiTV in Canada until the rules are changed (which I am sure will happen at some point in the future -- Canada usually follows the US' lead).
John
Not quite true you lot
I'm running my Softbank with ATT_MobiTv and ATT_XMRadio rom. It's only a 3 day trial but I get all the US channels A-Ok. Just don't see a way to switch to other networks/countries.
Mobitv is also available on Rogers. Mobitv is the technology used by Rogers for the streaming video applications.
You don't have to believe me just check the MobiTv website.
http://www.mobitv.com/channels/channels.php
A number of providers and channel listings there.
Now back to the original problem of changing channel lineups. Is it prgram based or a setting? Only the ATT_mobitv cab seems tobe out in the wild.
Thanks to everyboddy for your answers
For some reason i didnt recieve any notice for your replies
It seems that some guys succed to make it work
Actually pretty much all the services that Roger offer now, vison
, xm radio, mobitv etc.. seems to work on the tytn I. i havnt tried yet and i m looking for the the cab files if available?
the tytn II should come pretty soon at Rogers and i wonder if the video call will be unable and the apps for the tv , xm radio etc...\
just got the tytn I from rogers and install wm6 on it , just need to find some one who would like to help me to try the video call.. if their is any seeting to change for that ?
i got the Internet , mms working perfectly
Something else i need?
However my internet home page by defaut is from htc website , do anyone know the on for rogers and how to set it up by defaut?
thank you again
Make it simple: try to find a ROGERS ROM version of your Hermes and reflash it!
tried for weeks no chance, just took the official rom from htc and find the cab on this forum from rogers..
i keep looking , but thanks
Right here we go
You can download the Google Panel files here in the "Google Panel.zip" file. This Zip contains the files needed for the google panel (including some renamed files to work with the VodafonePanel registry settings).
Download the file, extract it somewhere on your pc.
Make sure your phone isn't on the Vodafone Panel and connect your phone to the pc and open Program Files/Panels/VodafonePanel/
Delete all the files (don't worry, I've uploaded a copy of the original Vodafone Panel files too)
Now copy all the files from the Google Panel you extracted to the phone into the VodafonePanel folder
Disconnect your phone from the pc and press the panel key.
Enjoy the Google Panel
Thanks very much for this mate. I want to get the X1 on vodafone, since its too pricy for me to justify getting it sim free/unbranded. Seeing as you know more about the vodafone version of the phone than I do, would you mind answering these questions I have please?
1- Is it really sim free, as people are claiming it is (what I mean is, can you put another sim in it during the contract period and just use it as if it was a normal sim free phone- while still paying for your contract, of course- due to travelling, I may have to do this a couple of times)?
2- I have heard there is a problem regarding the internet connection on vodafone versions, where it will restrict you from using wifi to connect for some reason. Is this true? If so, is there a way round it? (I specifically plan to only use wifi over here)
3- Other than the google panel being replaced by the vodafone panel, are the rest of the panels the same as on the normal sim free models? (I heard one other one 'The design panel' is missing)
4- If I perform this change to replace the vodafone panel to the google panel, can the google panel then be changed for something else? (ie, will it be locked to the panel UI like the vodafone one was?
Thank you so much

1. It is sim free, I'm using mine with my Tmobile sim
2. I can't get it to use Wifi myself, but there are others on here who have.
3. I don't have the design panel on my vodafone branded X1, but it appears the rest of the panels are standard and unbranded.
4. The vodafone panel can be unlocked by changing the key HKLM/Software/SonyEricsson/PanelManager/Panels/Vodafone Panel/Locked to 0.
Hope this helps
'I can't get it to use Wifi myself, but there are others on here who have.' -At all!!!???
One more thing then: if the phone is vodafone branded, what happens as regards firmware updates?
Cheers
I can use wifi for opera etc, but email and messenger want to use the vodafone gprs or 3g.
It has Windows Update so I assume that is where any updates will come from
I've got a vodafone one with an O2 sim in it, so like Hutchy says, it's definitely sim unlocked.
I've connected to my exchange server via wifi fine, although I haven't tried it with any other accounts.
Realistically firmware (ROM) updates will be done manually by you after OliNex and co have created a HardSPL to allow us to flash without bricking our phones. If Vodafone are anything like O2, they will only release an updated ROM once a year, about 6 months after HTC have released it.

windows update is not used as far as i know - its quite redundant. ive never received an update on it for the years i have used these phones! If it plays out like it does with other HTC phones, which i assume it will, then the new firmware will come from Sony Ericsson for unbranded, but for the network operator phones, it will come from the networks, so Vodafone will get it, play with it and then release it, if they ever do!

Sweet thanks for this hutchy69
Anyone else have any issue with multiple words? When I search using two keywords, it only passes the first one to Google in Opera.
Does anyone have the google panel cab so I am able to install it???
Cheers
I tried using this to install over the O2 panel, but it now says 'No Screen Shot' on the panels screen which is less than ideal! Other than that it works fine... Any way to fix this?
Anyone? I can't be the only one who has this.
I tried copying the google panel file to the o2 one but it won't let me, how do you copy them across in the first place?
If any kind soul wants to do a walk through for 02 I too would be most grateful!

Just a normal file copy using the USB cable worked for me... Well, apart from the Panel image not showing up.
Is anyone else getting the 'No Screen Shot' image?
Funny, I thought the panels were supposed to be miniturised 'live' previews of the panel application not static images. I'm surprised there isn't even a way to refresh the image it displays.
Okay, I managed to fix the preview not showing up... I'll post it here in case anyone else gets the same problem;
To replace the O2 panel with the Google Panel, first follow the instructions in the first post. Then you need to edit the registry:
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\Panels\O2 Panel
Edit the following keys:
Landscape to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\l_bh.bmp'
LargeLandscape to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\l_b.bmp'
LargePortrait to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\p_b.bmp'
Portrait to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\p_bh.bmp'
Hope it helps someone.
Is it possible to use the google panel and the vodafone panel?
I thried to copy the old VodafonaPanel Files in a new folder called TestPanel haha
But it doesnt work.
Somebody who' nows how to use both of them?
Best Regards Alcje
Sorry doubble post
