Bored of the Windows Mobile boot screen, here are some replacements. - XPERIA X1 General

I made some basic splash screens for X1 to replace that ugly green Windows', nothing special! All you have to do is rename the file to welcomehead.192, all files are in PNG, copy it into your Windows folder (I use Resco Explorer). Please remember to choose "show all files in ROM" before copying.

I use these.

I've use this one

And mine...

1. what does ' choose "show all files in ROM" ' refer to
2. Why can't I overwrite this systemfile.
does this ' resco explorer ' you refer to have a way around that ?
OK , it's sorta 3 questions

Choosing that will show all the files cooked in the ROM rather than hiding them so that the Windows folder will load faster.
Resco is capable of overwriting ROM files and the regular one can't.

thanks for being swift !
OK ... I'll look into the resco thing.
But I still don't know what the ' choose "show all files in ROM" ' refers to.
Thanks for the info about the difference, altho I'm a little vague about cook ing anything.
I do see that that folder takes a long time to display.
Is that a 'selection' in the resco explorer ? If so I'll see it when I install it ?
A registry entry ?
A system setting ?

SEMC1904.gif is the name of the Xperia animation. located in the windows folder.

hi, i have a question.
if i replace the welcomehead or the SEMC1904.gif and then hard reset the x1 will it still be like this? or is there any other danger to mess up the rom permanently? because i absolutly dont want that. i could lose my guarantee.
please answer me. thanks

Don't exactly know, what you want but after a regular Hardreset every changes made by you are definitely gone and your warranty won't be broken. Although I would suggest always some sort of backup.

sorry guys but does anyone have the original X1 boot screen (Windows Mobile in Green) i have overwritten my backup

doesn't anyone have a backup of this file?

Hope this is still actual....here is the File.

Disable the Cube in Touch Cruise

1. Unzip the Disable Cube.zip and copy the folder Disable Cube in storage card.
2. With resco explorer copy the four exe files from the folder Empty Files in windows folder.
3. With a registry editor in HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings change EnableCube from 1 in 0 and make a soft reset.
The cube will not function anymore and you will have an extra 6,5 mb memory program memory available.
Attention: After you replace the original files, programs like SKTools and MemMaid may show the files "useless" and prompt you to delete them. DO NOT delete those files. If you do delete them by mistake then just restore the files as described in step 2.
In the Real files folder you can find the original files in order to come back whenever you want. Just copy in windows folder and change again the value in registry.
cannot overwrite, it said all files is read-only.......
Τry with resco explorer.
Finally I got rid of this useless cube, and I have more 7MB to RAM.
Nice finding man, Thanks!

Yes my friend.
Wow worked like a charm, THAnk U Very Very much
6.8 MB free and get rid og the Cube
Weird. On my Touch, with a custom ROM I built that hasn't biotouch.exe and other cube resources, that means I would have 7MB more free RAM compared to a ROM on which it's present and active. Yet it's (definitely!) not the case.
Believe me I wish it would be the case

Nice and it works, but a big Problem (HTC touch cruise, WM 6.0):
When i make a sidescroll in emails or sms i get an error message, something like "couldn`t open biotouch.exe". Any solution ?

i know you guys said this will give you more access to ram, but does removing the cube speed up the device at all (noticeably?)
i wish HTC would have just had an option to disable it in the system settings.
oh well.
Maybe someone will make a software that can do this automatically for us?
To complete and correct this error try this:
With a registry editor in HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings change EnableScroll from 1 in 0 and make a soft reset
There is a similar metod to disable HTC Home?

Depending on how your ROM has been set up by your Telco... this should work. Go to your Main Memory then see if there is an "\Application Data\Manila" folder. If there is,...then the fix is simple.
Either rename the \Manila folder to something else, or go into that folder and rename or move the 2 files
InternetPortal.xml
InternetPortal-en-AU.xml (where -en-AU is your language /country).
If the ROM can't see these files you will get the default settings from "Windows\27c65cbd_manila".
Your Carriers "OperatorLinks" should now be gone from the Internet Tab. Not the shortcuts but the Operator links that look similar to the YouTube one.
If you do not have an "\Application Data\Manila" folder then the solution is slightly more complex as you will have to edit "Windows\27c65cbd_manila".
Try the above method first. If no luck report back and me or someone else can post the other more complex method.

The method is the same, you can find in both files the entry
<Operator Links>
...
</Operator Link>
Just remove them and all Links are Removed. Editing the 27c65cbd_manila is just a bit dangerous if you don't make a copy before you are editing it
Yeah but you can remove \Application Data\Manila files hocus pocus with no editing - that is why this method is better, if you simply want to remove branding as these guys do. The underlying 27c65cbd_manila version will keep the stock ROM settings.
One method is to delete a file that is superfluous - the other is to edit a file that Manila needs. So not the same.
Like you say the files are basically identical though, each with the setting coming as you say from the operator links area.
I guess you could say I described the Safe Simple dummies method that should work.

I agree, but if you just remove the two xml-files, the youtube-link will still be there because it's also integrated in the manila-file.
True but if you re-read what the guys were after.. they want to remove the links that look like the youtube link. Not the you tube link. So the simple method will do that.
i found the two files in manila internetPortal.xml & internetportal-en-gb.xml
but its protected and i cant delete them ... hidden and protected as system files read only
any way to remove them ??

I am on sprint and do not have the "\Application Data\Manila" folder so I have been playing with "Windows\27c65cbd_manila" to add a shortcut to Ticker Tape 0.5 by GeckoDev.
I have gotten the shortcut I wanted to appear on the internet screen (as shown in the screen shot below) but when I click the shortcut I get this error msg (as shown in the other screen shot below)
The File 'Ticker Tape' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this error...I have been searching but with no luck -
I have tried placing the exe and all related files in the widows directory because that is where the You Tube files are located but it didn't work. I think this might have something to do with it but I can't figure out in the "\Windows\27c65cbd_manila" file the file path to the You Tube icon does not exist that I can find. It might be a hidden folder but I can't see it in Total Commander. It says it is located "\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc". Also what is a .qtc file? My searching points me toward "Apple QuickTime Support file" but I have never heard of it as an icon file in WM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You transfer the file to the internalstorage and then use resco explorer or total commander to overwrite the original file. You can't overwrite systemfiles via ActiveSync (XP) or Mobile Device Center (Vista).
why double thread? is't the forum cluttered enough?

yes unpack the folder of the dialer and go through and manually change each and every part of the dialer using your favourite image editor. Repackage it up and wait for the adulation of the masses, or more likely someone to start moaning at you because you haven't done it exactly as they want you to... ;p
you mean the folder on the ppc itself or the cab provider ? ...
i don't mind doing the photoshop work if i have the jpg/gif/etc ... but i still need someone to package it into a cab ... as i don't know how
I too would like to know if there's a simpler way to do this.
I'm happy to edit all the files myself in photoshop, but...
When I extract the cab file i recieve alot of files with numerical extensions.
Fine and dandy, i've gone through a few of them and changed the extensions so that they are jpg/png etc just so i can view what they are.
Can anyone with previous experience of editing cab files like this write a simple howto, i.e. how to know which files are which and what format they should be saved in jpg/png/bmp/ico etc.
i saw from the _setup.xml file that all the filename are mentioned inside but was wondering if the marker of this cab can release the original package before cab-ing so that I can photoshop all the image file individual before they cab it again ...

Give it ago, I think the pink images need to stay pink though.
I can cab it up if you need to but there are some free cabmakers around..
They aren't hard to use, the main problem I've found is giving them enough permissions to overwrite files..
this one is supposed to be okay, but I haven't tried it.
http://www.aperitto.com/content/category/23/226/lang,en/ LOL, okay I have tried it now, it's working under WINE on my ubuntru machine
Wince cabmanager is pretty nice as well, but it costs $99, the demo does 15 cabs I think..

If you do not want to pay for a cab maker to rebuild a cab after you change an image, you can do this by following these steps :
Run MSCEInf. Open the Cab you want to modify (or the TSK which are also Cabs) with the first button.
Make sure that the 9th button is not with red cross. Else click on it. This make sure that extraction preserves Folders names.
Click on the 7th button to extract all files.
Select or create a folder for the extraction.
Extraction is done !
Modify the file you want in the folder or subfolder without changing its name.
Put at the root of the folder you selected or created the Microsoft program (free) CABWIZ. (Do a G....E search)
Open a Dos Windows in the folder (CMD...).
Msceinf has rebuilt the Inf File a the root of your folder so you can do in CMD mode : Cabwiz "name of the inf file".
And your new CAB is at the root of your folder.
Easy, but not really automatic, nevertheless cheaper than with WinCE...
It would be SO cool if someone made a black Blackstone dialer, especially for black Xperia X1s.
I REALLY like the "slide to answer or hangup" function of the blackstone dailer, rather than just the "push to answer" version on the stock Xperia ROM/firmware.

Nice one Benoit,
Nothing beats MSCEInf for extraction
That aperitto one looks pretty neat for all inclusive building including reg editing etc.. damn site better than wince cabmaker and is free (for non commercial), so far so good..
I have installed the blackstone dialler by itje its cool but i thought it was this big digit one from blackstone modded for the X1.
Ive tried to download the big digit one from Blackstone but get no dl link by email, I have big sausage fingers and keep making mistakes with the default size touch dialler on the X1 and need a bigger digit keyset to aim my stubby fingers at while making calls.
Is there a big digit dialler available yet for the X1?.
Edit,: Just found this, a nice touch on the dialler by itje is the bluetooth headset icon that when connected changes from the default bt icon to a headset !

It does'nt work.
I tried to do what in "Leo Hints & Tips" for exp:
"1. Enable Hidden Default Games
Go to the Windows directory and copy bubblebreaker.exe and solitaire.exe to the games folder as shortcuts in Windows\Start Menu. Make sure to unhide system files to see the games listed."
I can't copy files as instructed (working with total commander) and if the files were copied I can't reach/see them.
I think you may have misunderstood the original instructions.
Open file manager (not total commander) and navigate to Windows folder.
Locate the file BubbleBreaker (it's 46K, not one of the others)
Highlight it and keep it pressed till you get the menu with "Copy" in it. Do Copy.
Scroll back to the top and go into "Start Menu\Programs\Games".
Do "Menu, Edit, Paste Shortcut".
As I'm a pedant, I renamed the shortcut, removing the "Shortcut to" prefix.
Then, when you go Start Menu & then Games, BubbleBreaker is in there.
Now I've just done that exactly as typed above, whilst describing it for you, so it should work for you.
Let us know if you still have a problem.

Don't know what to say mate - it's in my Windows folder. There's a bunch of files called eT9.Rhodium.xxxx and then eT9MyWords is after them (directly after eT9DeadKeys).

delete exe file
it has been awhile since i have done this, also some files are impossible or almost impossible to delete.
if you have been trying to do it from ur phone, go instead, to your active sync/windows mobility center. click file mgt and browse contents of device, navigate to the exe u want to delete. i have done it before and it has worked on several ocassions. be careful on what u r deleting, you may want to do a google on it b/f u do it
if this does not do it, i got no clue hope this helps someone
