Hi,
After deciding to follow dingo's advice and do a vanilla install then install the cabs you need from the Ext ROM on the ftp, then install his great O2 Active cab that just installs connection settings, I realised I wasn't anywhere near 100% as to what each of the CABs did. I have listed the config.txt below and what I think each CAB does, but if anyone can fill in the gaps I would be very grateful, and it might make a useful wiki addition.
CAB:\Extended_ROM\Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_o2UK_PortalKey.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_o2UK_UAProf.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_o2UK_VoiceMail.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_o2UK_Customize.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB - Removes default battery icon from the system tray- why??????
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_PictureEnhancement_reg.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Version.sa.CAB - does this give the Ext ROM version?
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Customization-O2UK-Universal.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_MoveO2Tone.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Shortcut-O2UK-22Aug05.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VT_DisableOK_O2_0830_signed.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\signed_UNI_o2AUI4_build76.CAB - O2 Active installation CAB
Signed_UNI_o2UK_PortalKey.sa.CAB
This adds a registry entry for PieHomePage = pda.o2.co.uk
Resulting in pda.o2.co.uk loading when you open PIE. Wasting your GPRS/3G bandwidth unless Wifi or USb connected etc.
Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB
This installs Serial_BTUR.dll. I assume this is required and is to fix a BT bug judging by the name.
signed_UNI_o2AUI4_build76.CAB
This is the one to steer clear off if you do not want all the O2 Active stuff. The only downside is you do not get your settings which is why i made the CAB with only the Connection Settings App in it.
Signed_UNI_o2UK_VoiceMail.sa.CAB
This sets your Voicemail number to 901.
Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB
Yes you are correct it simply removes the battery icon. The reason being they install their own battery app with the Active software. I use this to remove mine as i don't like it there and i use another third party app which includes a battery indicator.
Signed_Version.sa.CAB
Yes again correct. This sets the ExtROM version in the device information.
Signed_UNI_PictureEnhancement_reg.sa.CAB
This enters some registry entries via a XML file. I am not 100% what Picture it is supposed to enhance. The Entries are

The default, out-of-the-box Microsoft alternative, however, is www.yahoo.com so there's no advantage or disadvantage in applying that CAB to the system. I still edit the registry to change the default action to about:blank cos it's useful to be able to press a HW button to end my browsing with a page that I know is not going to call up GPRS while I'm not watching.
Lurking on these forums somewhere is a .reg file that can be applied to the system (using a registry editor like TRE) that sets this key for you, and you can edit the URL to whatever you want. I've attached mine in case anybody else wants the about:blank option.
Getting back to the OT, I just did a hard reset and then a selective install of the ExtROM CAB files, and the only ones I installed were:
CAB:\Extended_ROM\Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_PictureEnhancement_reg.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
...and my Exec is running perfectly, with loads of available storage space and all the important functionality. I chose CABs that didn't have O2 in the title. The rest is just O2 fannying around with the system for their own nefarious purposes, I think. They just want you to remember that you're their *****! Of course, I needed to install Dingo's perfect connections CAB as well (thanks Dingo!).
The only thing I missed out of the O2 Active interface was their Task Manager, but I copied the .exe for this out of the system before I did the hard reset and it works fine as a standalone app on my new clean machine.
I didn't install any cabs and feel naked <shiver>
I guess it's only the picture enhancement and bluetooth cab I'm missing out on: if I was naked, picture enhancement might come in handy...

He I forgot about that. Yep i just edit the registry to remove it as that is even more bloaty than the O2 one. I might just make a cab for that too as not everyone will be able to import a reg file.
anyway a few more files and what they are doing.
Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
This makes links for Sim Manager & Enroller
CAB-Shortcut-O2UK-22Aug05.CAB
This makes links to sddaemon, MIDlet Manager & Voice Speed Dial. It also if i am correct adds MMS functionality into outlook. No software is installed it just sets up the link for the MMS etc.

Ok i think thats all of them. My current test at the moment is running all of the cab files except the stock signed_UNI_o2AUI4_build76.CAB. I have built a CAB with just the Active stuff missing from this. So it installed the skins etc as i quite like the phone skin.
So far it has been very stable. So i think it is just the Active stuff that causes the problems. On my next Hard Reset i think i will do the same but just leave out a few of the CABs.

I quite liked the look of the O2 phone skin as well, but the default MS one works much much better when the Exec is in true VGA mode. Plus, O2 overwrite the 'Call History' button (above the Talk button) with their hardly-ever-used-because-there's-no-3G-signal Video Call button.
The only functionality that seems to be missing from the Phone after I left off all the O2 CABs is the smart dialling. If I tap the 'Menu' soft-button I can choose the 'Smart Dialling Options...' item, but nothing happens. Considering this 'feature' was a waste of time anyway, I don't miss it at all, but others might. It was pointless because you could only press numbers keys to find your contacts. Perhaps HTC/O2 didn't notice that the goddamn Exec has a full bloody keyboard with which I could have typed letters too! :evil: :roll:
So now I'm waiting for Mamaich to develop his WM5-compatible version of his contact-finder. That will be awesome! 8)

(Medium-term lurker first time poster)
Having read this forum for about a month now I decided to do the o2 corporate install on my Exec for performance issues. I've just ported my number over and noticed that MMS wasn't working (It would only download the first 25k of a message). I put it down to the number porting (MMS wasn't enabled on all o2 systems for my account originally so assumed they'd cocked up again).
I rang data support today to find out what was going on, we went through the settings etc and as a last resort the guy said lets do a hard reset. Reluctantly I agreed, as I had everything running smoothly etc. He told me to install the personal setup. Naturally I said look I don't want all this bloatware can we go with the corporate one. He confessed that he didn't have much experience with the Exec but had found on previous XDAs that if you do a corporate install it doesn't install all the necessary MMS settings/executables.
Lo and behold MMS works perefectly now. So long post cut short ;-) Yes there is something in the extended rom which enables MMS. The question is can we isolate it so that we can have performance AND functionality?
Final point: I've spoken to 2 different people in data support and about 20 C/S monkeys. The C/S guys really could learn a trick or two from the 'techies' about C/S, as they've been spot on all the way through.
eyebeebe:
Correct in corporate mode you will not have your MMS settings or any other connection settings. This was why i put together the CAB file that is refered to above. The one that sets up your O2 connection settings only. This does set up the MMS server settings aswell but to add the MMS functionality into outlook you also need the shortcut cab Findus mentions above.
I am not sure exactly what out of the extended rom is or is not installed with a corporate install as i have not explored it yet. I prefer to soft reset before any of that is installed and start off with a vanilla install of WM5.
The reason for listing all the CAB files and what we can determine they do is so people can make an informed choice as to what they install. This method is more complicated but can go a long way to setting your device up to have it running the best you can.
I think basic mode will install most of the extended ROM but just leave off the Active UI stuff. This might be of better use to you. Again i have not really looked to much into that either so i can not say what exactly is or is not installed though.
Hope this helps.

ROFL, i know exactly what you mean about the 3G, what a great name for that button. I am right on the edge of 3G cover and it is a bit annoying for data connection as i keep swapping networks. I find it best to just fix to the GSM network in the phone settings.
I just checked the phone app and i have both "hardly-ever-used-because-there's-no-3G-signal Video Call button" and Call History. They are both stuck between Talk and Speed Dial
Dingo:
I'd seen your CAB and I must say it looked very useful but I'd already installed the corporate version and setup my data settings when it was first posted.
Regarding which install to use I've tried each of the three options and let them run through to the end. The corporate one is by far the quickest and leanest version in my subjective opinion. The corporate install does integrate the MMS box with Outlook. Unfortunately that wasn't the problem I was having.
In both instances (when I first got the phone and had the basic installation and recently with the corporate install) The phone would appear to upload/download the first 25K of any MMS. All other data services were functioning perfectly.

Originally having been thouugh all the settings for MMS, My ISP and My Work Network the Data Support worker went away for a couple of hours gave me a call back and asked me to try sending receiving again and it worked fine. He told that Not all of the systems at O2 are integrated and apparently my account hadn't been enabled properly one one of them.
Yesterday I was told that the systems fault above can't have been the problem. We tried changed a few of the settings (port from 8080 to 9002 etc) and eventually decided on a hard reset. I now have a slow Exec with working MMS, which isn't an essential feature tbh but has its uses.
Having thought about it some more I'm wondering whether it is a 3rd party app which was conflicting and it's actually a clean install which has fixed everything. I shall experiment over the weekend with various clean installs and the CABS in the ext. ROM and report back.
Hi,
I did a vanilla install and installed the non o2 cabs, plus CAB_Shortcut_o2UK_22Aug05.CAB
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
VT_DisableOK_O2_0830_signed.CAB
Plus dingo's great connections cab. I had to install the 2 VT cabs to enable video calling ( crappy gimmick i know but i like to show my mates what video calling looks like!!!) MMS now works perfectly along with everything else and I have over 29 Mb Program memory after a soft reset! Brilliant!
Thanks guys,
Fin
eyebeebe:
Thanks for the info. Its good to know corporate installs the essential CABs too. The one cause for concern though is it may also install the active stuff but just not set it up for running.
I really wish sprite would hurry up with their backup software. It makes life a lot easier when constantly hard resetting etc. I could then make a backup of my nice working system and once i finsish testing restore that backup.
Sorry you can not get MMS working other than a full install. Hopefully it was just a glitch or as you say 3rd party soft. It will be good to hear the results of your testing.
Findus:
Good News, glad to hear your running ok & and hopefully a lot smoother.
There is a great little file browser called total commander that will allow you to view your Extended ROM. Really good if you need to access any of your non installed cabs when your on the move. There is a post here somewhere that links to it. Just type Extended_ROM in the space and they will appear. Unfortunatly it will not let you manipulate any of them just run them.
Sorry for being a newbie.
But can someone tell me what .cab should I install in other for my O2 Exec works free of bug(hopefully)? (I'm not on O2 contract so I think I don't need O2 Active on mine)
I just got the Exec today, that's why I'm looking around for info to get start with my toy, I think I will go for the Corporate room, do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks any reply,
Cheers,
P.s: and also where I can download the .cab files as well, thanks a lot.

Will this then make everythign work, i.e. Bluetooth, MMS, video calling etc etc so that I get full functionality of the phone, but without the O2 active software installed?
Thanks, and sorry for being thick
hi mate
are you getting the exec on o2
I have a uk exec and have flashed various roms and tried many installs I think I have found what works.. I can send you all the cab files you need top run,, however I am trying to create the extended rom which will be the easiest way. If I get the answers I wil create it and you can have it.
It then will be in personal install without all the o2 crap and it is by far the fastest I have seen one of these things run
If I can help please ask
Magpie
anyone created a custom extended rom for exec catering towards vodafone sims?
If anyone has, can I have a copy?

I am a newbie to all this and I'd love a plain vanilla install that just worked, as mine is running like a dog at the moment and I have nothing installed!
Thanks for everyone's help and support.
Does anyone know if the cabs on the ftp have been updated with the new O2 v1.13.188 ROM?

This is the one to steer clear off if you do not want all the O2 Active stuff. The only downside is you do not get your settings which is why i made the CAB with only the Connection Settings App in it.

I will check into some of the others later as i really need to get sleep. its 3.30am and i have to be up for 9.

Hi Dingo,
Can you post the CAB that you made for the O2 connection????
Thanks very much.
Cheers,
Good morning everyone!
Yesterday I tried to edit the skin of the HTC Music Plug-in for the today screen.
When I openend the file mpt_skin_p.xml in Dreamweaver I saw those symbols in the source code. When opening the file with other programs like Notepad or UltraEdit I see the same symbols.
Code:
<text>
<POSITION x="55" y="0" w="40" h="22" align="0" fname="Nina" fsize="13" fweight="700" fquality="0">
<L0404 fname="[color=#FF0000]新細明體[/COLOR]" fsize="13" fweight="500" fquality="0"/>

I noticed an interesting thing:
Filesize before editing: 5,51 KB
Filesize after opening and saving without changing anything: 2,79 KB
When I replace the default xml (5,51KB file) with the newer (2,79KB file) one, the plugin doesn't work anymore. Remember: It is the same source! Only openend and closed!
To come to the point:
I can't change the skin for the plugin because obviously the file is damaged after editing (header removed? if something like this exists .. )
Question 1:
Does anybody know what hides behind the symbols?
Question 2:
Does anybody know how to edit the xml file so that it works?
Question 3 - Another topic:
Is there a way to have the plugin always extended? It is onlye extended when selecting the item.
Help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks, Vi
P.S.: If anyone knows another skinnable today plugin for controlling Windows Media Player, please tell me!
Question 1: the symbols are traditional Chinese characters, you'll see them clearly if you have traditional Chinese fonts on your PC.
Question 2: it might be a question of encoding. Maybe originally the file encoding is UTF-8 or Big5, and by saving it it might have been transformed into ASCII. This could alos explain the file size beeing decreased.

Thank you for your answer! I just tried it again with UltraEdit and guess what - it works
Seems that it was too late yesterday
But now I have another question (or two):
1. Is it possible to make the plugin larger than 40px (2 rows)? I would like to set it up to 80px (for bigger, finger friendly buttons).
2. Is it possible to have it always extended? I'm trying some registry settings right now...
Thanks! Vi
Hi,
I've spent many hours reading through this very helpful and informative forum and its Wiki I learned a lot so far and will continue to visit...
There are a few questions/matters however to which I have not been able to find an answer at this point, even after using the various Search functions.
One of these question is the following:
Is it possible to change the Sort Order of the Opera-Bookmarks that are shown in the TouchFlo Internet tab ? It seems they are now sorted according to time of addition (when you add a Bookmark it shows up at the bottom of the list). I would very much like to see them sorted alphabetically.
Please advise...
Kind regards,
Rolf (The Netherlands, first-time PocketPC owner)

Did you find a solution to this? Anybody else?
Have you tried editing the file and changing the numeric order?
Which file are we talking about here?
Cheers
To change the order you need to edit the file opera6.adr in \windows\opera9
There you will see your favorites and you can rearrange them. Another way would be to edit the file 27c65cbd_manila which in my case looks like this:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<InternetPortal>
<IncludeUserFavorites>True</IncludeUserFavorites>
<Banner
DefaultImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner.qtc"
SelectedImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner_selected.qtc"
Width="480"
Height="215" />
<OperatorLinks>
<Link
Text="YouTube"
Executable="\windows\youtube.exe"
ImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc" />
</OperatorLinks>
</InternetPortal>
You can probably add there your own code, something like:
Code:
<Link
Text="Whateveryoulike"
NavigateUrl="http://forum.xda-developers.com/" />
I found this internetportal examples on a japanese site. I have no idea what they are saying but you can see the options you have there. I have not tested changing this file, but you can always try. The first method, editing opera6.adr works. I have tested it...

Hi,
I have a HTC touch Diamond which is brand locked. I want to remove the default bookmarks which are loaded in the Internet tab.
How do you edit the .adr file? Which program do you use?
Thanks.
hi guys,
i want to make a mobile web applcation for my leo, i made a table with width 480 but in IE and opera they both zoom right out when i want it to be full screen, seeing as i am making it the correct size.

Curiosity dictates that I ask: what is the app? Or is it top secret?

Does anybody know how to increase volume on a rooted sm-t230 by editing the audio config files ?
Nobody came across wih that ?
I read lots of volume stuff but KitKat has different audio files with much more parameters. I didn't find a single thread.

Have you tried an Equalizer? You can make sounds go higher and louder but ofc if you dont do it right you will lose quality

Thanks for taking care of that. I tried a couple of f** apps but none of them make sound louder. On tab4 the sound is excellent even by using aptx. I don't want to use an app but just editing the audio files in order to keep that quality.
If you can explain how to do this in details I'd be very very happy.
Normally the sound files can be found in system/etc/
Take a look there. Just be careful not to change the values to dramatically or you'll blow your speakers

I am not sure how well can you do it globally, but Music apps has a buit in equalizer and you can really get a kick out of the sound. Other Music do the same like Spotify. I recommend you check out Noozoxide Pro, its can really make a HUGE impact on the sound it becomes clear if you use Professional headphones.

Thank you. have you tried Noozoxide on tab4? I can't hear any difference wthout an amplifier connected.
with standard player you can set an equalizer and it really sounds louder but mp3 are different in regard to loudness.
I'm wondering that none of the professionals here have a simple solution for such a trivial "issue"...

Yeah I tried Noozxoide, but are you trying to improve the loudness of the built in speaker? If you're you won't really hear a difference with almost any equalizer in terms of loudness. It works really on headphones though, specially Professional and also external speakers.

i read that you can do it like this with jelly Bean but with KitKat not.
In the audio_gain_conig.xml the tags are different. looks like
<audio path identifier=blabla component=ELBA>
<Gain name="MICPGA1_GAIN[4:0]">
<value volume=100>0x14>/volume>
for example.
see that there's also a hex value included and make it not that easy.
increase volume
I got a tab 4 att kitkat and the file is in system\etc\

Its a att tab 4 8.0 should be snapdragon 400
Go to: system/etc/
open: audio_swvol_calibration_def.xml
here U can change the value:
<Stream identifier="AUDIO_STREAM_MUSIC">
<Device identifier="AUDIO_DEVICE_OUT_DEFAULT">
<Format identifier=".DEFAULT">
<Value index="0">0</Value>
<Value index="1">26</Value>
<Value index="2">33</Value>
<Value index="3">40</Value>
<Value index="4">46</Value>
<Value index="5">53</Value>
<Value index="6">60</Value>
<Value index="7">66</Value>
<Value index="8">73</Value>
<Value index="9">80</Value>
<Value index="10">86</Value>
<Value index="11">93</Value>
<Value index="12">100</Value>
<Value index="13">106</Value>
<Value index="14">113</Value>
<Value index="15">120</Value>
4 example:
<Value index="15">120</Value> = DEFAULT
change to - - - > <Value index="15">150</Value>
150 is pretty loud on my sennsheiser earphones and the speakers of tab 4 can also do this value... Till now i tried no higher setting, caus its enough for me and i guess that the speakers of this tablet aren't made for much more... so be careful
