Power button not turning device off, stylus status not working... - Touch HD General

Well a few days ago I went on a barrage and installed a bunch of apps like Gyrator 2, SensorLock, LevelSight, HTC Home, Ultimate Launch, HomeScreen ++.
I also coincidentally noticed two problems now First is when the device is on and I press the power, it doesn't turn the device off! Second is the HD is supposed to be able to detect the status of the stylus so when you pull it out in a call it opens the notes application. I also checked with Gyrator 2 which shows what the system reads for the stylus status and it no longer detects whether the stylus is in or not!
I'm going to try to uninstall each app one by one... but do any of you know whether there might be some other problem?? Or if someone's experienced the same thing, what are some recommendations to remedy this issue?
Each day of using the HD more and more problems keep popping up... I didn't drop $900 on this phone for nothing ><"

Do you also have problems with the volume buttons? If so, then perhaps your keypad service isn't running. You can check this with task manager v3.1

Ahh nifty the volume buttons don't work. Now how to turn this back on... hrmmm... time to poke around.

I had this problem when using MobileMagic for auto rotation using the G-Sensor. Uninstalling this fixed the problem. I now use ChangeScreen and find that this works better for me.
Hope this helps.

cardefbel was right it was the keypad service, I must've turned it off while messing around in the registry, should be more careful next time...
Turned it back on and everything works fine now. Thanks!

So none of my buttons work except the Comm Manager button...

wtf?! They all worked fine an hour ago (power, camera, talk, softkeys, messages...) and now they don't. It isn't a hardware issue because when it goes into standby, I can press the power button to bring it out of standby. Now though, I can't open anything using their respective keys and can't power it off. Anyone have any issues like this? I hadn't installed anything or even been using the phone from the time they worked to the time they stoped working.
Try opening settings -> buttons ->lock and click in "dont lock keys"
Had similar problems that now for some reason went away.

Unfortunately, I tried that and it didn't fix it. It's so odd that the Comm Manager button works when the phone is on and that the power button will work to turn it on or to wake it up. Are there places in the registry that control what the buttons do? Maybe I need to reset this thing? I love this phone when it isn't locking or acting up.
So I reset the phone to it's factory settings. After I went through the calibration and setup, the keys still weren't working. Before I did the reset, I did notice the keyboard keys weren't working either . So after the reset, the buttons still weren't working. I kept just typing stuff in on the keyboard with Word open and it finally started working...all buttons are still working now, but I don't trust it much. Should I bring it in to Cingular to get a new one? I'm still within my 30 days
Yes. If you can get a new one do it. do it.

Tool to keep display OFF!

My phone is always waking up for odd reasons (AVRCP commands, switching in and out of roaming, etc...), and I can't seem to get the darned thing to stay OFF.
Music A2DP streaming is the biggest deal to me, because not only will the device wake up when I press a remote command (on my AVRCP headset), it will also keep the device backlight on indefinitely. This is clearly shortening my battery.
I tried Slide2Unlock, and have it set to shut off the display if no activity for 5 sec., but the problem is that Slide2Unlock appears to not notice when it is woken up, and just sits there without turning the screen back off again! (a simple screen press brings Slide2U back to life, and then it will toggle the screen... but this defeats the purpose!)
There must be SOMETHING I'm missing here... doesn't anyone else have this problem???
I have 2 things for you. The first, is if you're using WM6 that's a known issue and unchecking the today timeout in start-->settings-->today-->items tab should solve most of your problems. The second is a little program that I found (not sure where at , but it might have been on here) called screen off. Install it and then set it to a hardware button and it will allow you to turn just your screen off whenever you don't need it on.
Maybe it depends on the player you're using? With Coreplayer, my phone's screen just flashes on and off quickly when it receives an AVRCP command.
Still doesn't explain the roaming thing though.

Yes, I'm using WM6 on a HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul).
I don't currently timeout to the today screen, but I don't see how that would cause my problem really- I've heard people mention that before, so can anyone explain what difference that would make?
I already have a shortcut to screen toggle (wrote my own MortScript to do it). That's not a problem anyway since every media player can assign a button to toggle the screen- The problem is that it keeps turning the screen back on when a button is pressed no matter how many times I toggle!!
Plastriq, I've heard that coreplayer does that... that's how they deal with this problem. They're the only ones that have addressed it as far as I know, and I'm not about to pay for their app when I already have TCPMP and WMP for free.
I just can't believe that there haven't been more practical ways around this yet!

8525 wakes up after touching any button

I have a weird problem with one of my two Cingular/AT&T 8525 phones. It appeared before I upgraded to WM6, went away after upgrading, and came back again a few days ago.
It seems that all the buttons are live and touching any button wakes the phone (turns it on). The phone turns on even when I connect it to the charger. Is it due to some Registry corruption or random changing of a setting? The other phone never displayed this behavior.
Any help will be appreciated.
maybe its some software u installed.. try unistalling one by one everything and see which one it is... if not then idk.. lol
good luck man! =]
In the system tab of settings, check out your Keylock.. Should be at " lock all buttons except power button".

Thanks a lot SH4YD33! I have no idea how the setting changed to "Do not lock buttons". Perhaps my wife placed the phone in the pocket of her handbag without switching it off and the buttons created this change. Seems that the phone strives to be alive...

All programs close when screen goes black

Hi all.
I have this annoying problem with my Blackstone.
When the screen turns off everything closes down. It's really annoying if i'm using messenger or something and not look on it for 2 min it closes messenger down.
I know i can choose in battery setting not to turn off the unit if it's not used for a while, but i still like that the screen is turned off, but still working.
Can this be done??

Yes it can.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Power/Advanced and you can select the screen or backlight to turn off if device is not used for x mins on either battery or external power

Yeah i know, but it only turn the lights down, not turn the screen off. It's only if i choose to turn off the device the screen turns off.
I use gyrator to set up an event that turns the screen off without turning the device off when the stylus is inserted (you can modify the default gyrator behaviour which is to lock the screen when the stylus is inserted). If you want to be fancy you could set it up to turn the screen off if the phone is turned face down, you don't really need the screen on then anyway unless you're in the habit of looking at your phone above your face while lying on your back, or trying to use it while doing acrobatics in an stunt plane.

This is what i'm looking for and i hope someone can help me

Just tried the screen off when phone is face down and it doesn't seem to be working for me either for some reason. But the stylus in event is working fine, just pop the stylus out and put it back in again and the screen goes completely off without killing the processes in the background (can still explore phone with active sync). I wouldn't want to mess with the power button as that is really useful to provide a proper device suspend when I want it.
I have a similar problem but with the GPS.
I have raised the question here, on some other forums and directly to HTC.
From HTC I got the answer that it is done by design to minimize battery drain and that they would have many angry costumers complaining about low battery life.
The only solution I know of so far is to use a 3rd party app.
I use "screenoff" and everytime I use the GPS I go to advanced-power and uncheck all the boxes.
When I'm done using the GPS I check the boxes again, otherwise I'll have to remember to turn the screen off manually everytime in "normal" usage of the phone.
I think it's sad though on such an expensive device not to have the option to run programs and hardware in sleep mode.
I'd rather find a solution where I can push the power button as usual and where I can have the boxes in advanced-power checked all the time.
I managed to get gyrator to turn the screen off by flipping face down, just needed to put the screen off command before all the rotation disable commands. Now if I want to disable the screen I just have to flip it face down for a second or so.
Thx for all your help.
But i found out that it's not only when the screen turns off everything closes. If i just leave it on home screen for like 2 min. everything also closes down.
I've heard from another forum that it's something HTC has decided to do to keep on the battery....
I don't know if there is anything to do here then??
Go to the start button, select settings, select system , scroll down and select power then the advanced tab and UNTICK Turn off device if not used for 2mins for both external and battery power.

Done that... Still closes everything after around 2. min....
Strange, doesn't do that on mine.

I had a similar problem and only thing which resolved it was a hard reset!
I'm just testing it again to make sure. Have a track playing in the HTC music app and I'm signed in to messenger. Screen is off and I'm waiting for 3 mins to make sure.

That was going to be my next suggestion, really doesn't sound like normal operation to me. So hardreset and install one app at a time until you find out what is messing things up for you. 3 mins are up and track is still playing and I'm still signed in to messenger.
Thanks to a guy called Dawsonas I just found a program called Pocketshield.
It has an application permission feature:
"When this app is running override power off: just do screen off" (use this option for music players, GPS apps, loggers, IM, or any app that needs the device to stay awake). This setting will take effect either when "Power off on lock" or "Power off after 20 seconds" options are enabled.
Check it out

But do you guys think it could be some settings in the ROM? Should i try another one or what do i do when you say it isn't normal for the phone?

[Q] Best way to use HD2 without buttons? (hard buttons no longer work on my phone.)

So i've been dealing with this for the last week or so and I finally decided to stop searching and scouring the internet and ask for some help from my XDA brethren.
I don't exactly know how or why, but all the hard buttons on my HD2 do not work anymore. Volume up and down, pick up, home, menu, back, and hang up buttons... all not working. They all stopped working at the same time.
I don't really care except for the fact that I cannot wake my phone up after it locks/sleeps. I tried an app called Shake and Wake with no luck. Any sugguestions? or should I just look for a new phone? I really don't want to give up on my HD2... we've been through a lot! Thanks a ton you guys, I really appreciate it.
If I were you I would head on over to the nexus one threads and ask the question.
That phone only has one button, and some folk have had that not work, so they are used to the problem, and I'm sure they will have a solution for you. Worth a try anyway........
Button Savior - free from Market
Jadrobe, I really like button saviour but that still doesn't solve my problem, how do I wake the phone up without any buttons?!!
do your volume buttons work? if so, you could use ButtonRemapper (paid app) to remap one of your volume buttons to work as your power button and do the rest with button savior.
Nope, none of the buttons work!! I'm screwed!
Then yes, you are indeed screwed. Sorry for your misfortune.

Pretty much. If you have one working button then you could use an app called "button remapper"
Have you flashed back to stock/something different yet? Seems a touch coincidental that they all go at once. The bottom 5, or the two volume yea, cos they're on two separate input busses, but for both to fail together... not saying it couldn't happen, just saying it could be something else.
If there not working how do you turn on your phone?
When I slide the battery into the phone it automatically boots up as if I pushed in the power button.. it never used to do that before.
And also right after it powers up it sends me straight to slide to shut down which kind of makes me believe I may have the power button stuck on or something? I'm going to try to flash the stock rom and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!
Dude!! Proximity Screen Off (look in Abdroid Themes and Apps sub-forum) could fix you up in combination with button savior !
It has an option to use the prox sensor to put your phone to sleep and to wake it. The downside is it will drain your battery faster than normal because the prox sensor is in use when the screen's off. But it could keep your phone useable til you can get your buttons fixed (probly just your power button is malfunctioning it sounds like to me)

Thanks a ton Huggs. I'll definitely look into it, as the main reason I love this phone is for Android roms!
So far i've had good luck with this Winmo 6.5 app. I had to revert to the base/stock Tmo rom and it works okay.
