I would like to add Galway(Ireland) to AccuWeather but I am finding difficult to add the Code for Galway! Found a thread that explains it for another htc model but I can not get round doing it on the Touch 3G!
Any suggestions?
Many thanks Woodie

You may have to edit this file in \windows : HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml
0409 (english) is your language code, other languages have different codes.
Ensure that your city (and corresponding codes, available from accuweather website) is in the list.
Hi,
As this topic is here, let me ask my trouble here;
I have WM6.5 w/ Manila2D, I have lost my selected cities from weather widget in Manila.
I can not add any city, even if all city lists exists and I am able to select. But it does not display weather widget screen..
This also happened before when I have had another Rom and Softreset is not useful at all..
Anyone has such trouble?
Anyone has resolution?

Try this.. rename file \windows\HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml to HH_0199_WeatherCities.xml. (keep a copy of the original file somewhere)

Unfortunatelly, dealing (renaming, deleting, moving) with such file is impossible although while TFlo is not active..
Tried w/ Resco and extended File explorer (not seeing/showing), Total commander sees but not executes any command except copying..
Doing thru laptop with vista also sucks due to not showing windows files..

I'm not sure why.. but I have renamed mine. The file should not be protected. It's not in ROM.
Try this.. disable TF ->> use TC, properties - uncheck "system" - rename.
It is Rom file..
Not possible to uncheck any box overthere..
Not possible to handle..
Hi all
Same problem here!
Here is what I have done so far
1. Copied HH_409 bla bla file to pc.
2. Edited file with correct data from accuweather.
3. Using total comander removed the read only state from the original file in /windows directory.
4. replaced standard 409 with my version.
5. soft reset
and........ I can choose the cities from the list now but they will not update.
So now I am stuck
if any of you (azahidi ;-) have managed to crack this problem please help me get further.
If you want to try one of my cities to ensure that it is not me doing it wrong here is the line from the xml for one city
Code:
<city name="Newquay, UK" loca="EUR|UK|UK125|Newquay" land="United Kingdom"/>

I am not sure why, but I can add and update any city in the list, including many in the UK (e.g. Newbury, newport, newham, newcastle-under-lyme but unfortunately newquay is not). I'll try to add newquay in xml file and see what happens.. I'll post the result later.
btw can you try and do item #8 of first post and see.

Cannot ? Even in http://www.accuweather.com ? Search for your city/town in "world" link
If found, the code is like this: http://www..... traveler=0&loccode=ASI|MY|MY004|LABUAN
Sorry if I'm telling the obvious.
Hi Guys,
As you are aware we are waiting for the HardSPL, but in the mean time, can you share what Theme you are using which has no issues on your TP2...a cab file would be nice.
This way we know what works on our Vodafone UK branded phones.
Thanks in Advance....
There are a few threads on here dealing with this. But the gist is:
Download this
http://www.4shared.com/file/109330961/b9be5561/TF3DIIBlack.html
Before installing it copy the "2330fc3c_manila" file from the windows directory and put it back after installation. When installing DO NOT let your screen turn off!!! and it takes AGES to install, about 20-30 minutes.
Once it is installed, reboot and you have the default HTC black TF3D theme, with white fonts. You can then install any theme you want without CFC compression

Thanks for That Stunno.
Anyone else use different cabs or use another method ?
Im using this:

Lets you install custom icon sets, font colours, clocks, sliders and shake to change wallpapers!
Its fairly easy to use and loads of different styles out there
Thanks for sharing that ashtemple.
Anymore Vodafone UK users out thier with thier TP2's ?
I know you arent using the crappy theme from vodafone , let us know what you use so that we can share each others themes...saves us all the time and hassle.
Sharing is good....
Let us know
Thanks for the people who have shared thier experience in this...come on people
Thanks Stunno, I have done this, but I think I have cocked up slightly, I did not re-install the manilla file before re-booting, my weather is in French, I assume this would have changed it? I am now unable to install as presumably this will not let you whilst touch flo is running? can I switch off touch flo to re-install this file?
NOW WORKING
how did you remove the file, and get it back? i get perms errors..? thanks.

Use Total Commander or the Resco file manager to copy the file
I copied a couple of times and also got the permission errors, but I think it did actually copy, when I went back into weather it was in English (may have soft reset in the interim)

Just to confirm to people that the above works like a dream. BUT FOLLOW / READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
For users that dont want to twinker to much in regards to copy this file, save this file, cut this file, paste the file...install another app etc.... USE THIS.
Simple install and a simple tweak and thats it. You are up and running.
I used MaxTT but for me I'm happy with Stunno's method.
Once again thanks for the guys who have posted !!
Thanks Stunno.

I'm having trouble with reestablishing Facbook,
I can edit the first of the reg files, but the next two won't open for some reason. I'm using total Commander to edit them.
I've managed to change facebook.disable value to 0, but that's about it, any help appreciated!
I followed the instructions given in these threads, except I copied the manila file after installing. I disabled TF3D, copied the manila, restarted TF3D. It works beautifully.
I also installed from the numerous icon packs and different background from the HDwall collection and my TP2 doesn't look at all like the one shipped by VF.
Go for it guys. Just go for it.

Hello Forum!
I would like to update Leo's ROM (HTC, German Stock-ROM) from 1.43.407.1 to 1.48.407.1. BUT, I don't want to install all programs and tweak my baby again (not to forget all the emails and outlook settings, SMS etc.). Is there a way of doing a backup, which can effectively "survive" a ROM update, or is this simply not possible without coruption? Normally I use Sprite Backup 6.5.5 for my phone backup, but it does not tell me to many things about what will happen if a backup would be applied to the phone after ROM update. By the way. I don't think Sprite Backup will backup the ROM itself but just the other data on the internal memory, does it?
Thank you in advance folks!

hi,
spritebackup is trying to be smart on restore, so you can chose how it should behaive on restoring after romupdate. when i remember it rigth there are 3 or 4 options to choose from when you start a restore, they are listed at there website and in the manual/helpfile.
Hello madbird,
Yes, I noticed that. I just want to make sure that it really does work even after ROM update. What I do not want is problems afterwards. Anybody tried already?
Thanks guys!
Studebaker
I have been using SPB Backup's ROM upgrade mode on my Polaris for restoring of my settings & applications over sequential ROM upgrades.
Apart from some minor issues it really saved me a lot of reconfiguring time.
Naturally I haven't been able to try it on Leo, since custom ROMs can't be flashed yet.

In order to restore and at the same time 100% incorporate all changes introduced by the rom upgrade you need 2 additional procedures (apart from a backup software).
1) Overwrite the new registry over the old registry
2) Overwrite the new double copy files over the old double copy files.
The first Step can be easily done in the following way
After upgrading you install Resco Registry.
You export the entire registry.
You restore the old backup image
Finally you re-import the previously exported reg file.
This will overwrite all keys that were changed during the rom upgrade.
Regarding the second step, let me quickly explain to you what I mean with double copy files.
After hard resetting your device and during the first boot, a customization tool is running in the background that copies some files from the rom (and the windows folder) to the storage memory (and different folders).
If you restore the previous rom image, these files will be overwritten with old versions. You can partially overcome this issue if the double copy files are both found in the same directory (f.e. Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe in Windows folder).
In this case you delete the duplicated file in storage and apart from releasing some mbs of free space you also use the latest version, which always resides in rom. This procedure can not be followed with files and folders that are copied during the customization process from Windows folder to other folders.
In order to overcome this issue and to be able to restore a previous image incorporating at the same time all the changes introduced by the upgrade, we have to find a way and activate the customization tool after completing the restore process. In this way the double copy files will be re-overwritten with the newer ones.
Check also this thread.
Finally another way to rebuild your system without much effort is to setup Sashimi once and then use it to quickly reinstall everything.
Hello Step2p!
Thank you so much for taking some time for that really interesting answer. The registry, yes, I guesses that could be a problem. Please let me comment to your points, because I'm in no way an expert in that:
The first Step can be easily done in the following way:
-After upgrading you install Resco Registry. => OK
-You export the entire registry. => Ahm, OK...
-You restore the old backup image => Yes, because I want to have my tweaked registry from the "old" ROM back.
-Finally you re-import the previously exported reg file. => Ouch. Than my tweaked and modified entries will all be gone. Right?
This will overwrite all keys that were changed during the rom upgrade. => And also all the former ones will be overwriten by new ones??
Did I get that right? After your procedure my old tweaks will be history, just because the new registry that we will have remaining at last will be pure as snow. New and unmodified.
Thanks again,
Studebaker

Yes, you will lose all system registry tweaks (but not 3rd party tweaks). Unfortunately it is almost impossible to have the latest registry without losing these tweaks.
But updating the registry is an important step, because many of the bug fixes are actually registry tweaks that we never find.
In order to overcome this issue you have 2 options
1) Use an application like BsB tweaks which allows you to quickly setup the main registry tweaks
2) Create a reg file (or better a cab file) with all the tweaks that you are doing. After importing the registry you can run it in order to re-overwrite the tweaks.
Oh yes, a cab file sounds great to restore my tweaks! I just have no idea how to do that. How to convert my registry tweaks into a cab file, is there some software available to do the trick? Sorry for my stupid questions, that's like rocket science for me....
WinCe CabManager is very easy to use.
If you find it difficult you can export your keys using Resco Registry and then join the individual keys using a text editor.

Well, firstly i had some issues with the mail accounts.
After restoring in ROM upgrade mode all mail accounts were available and working. However it seemed like their configuration had not been fully restored.
When i wanted to modify an account (i.e. synch frequency) i had to completely reconfigure the accont, since its configuration wasn't there.
The issue only became noticeable when the account option need to be adjusted.
Secondly i also had the feeling (might be subjective) that the cycle of backing up, upgrading, restoring (in ROM upgrade mode), backing up (from previously restored rom), upgrading, restoring (in ROM upgrade mode) etc....pollutes the image somehow.
I have gone through the cycle for 5 or 6 upgrades without noticeable problems, but i'm not sure how it will behave after more cycles or after a major upgrade.
For so far i've only used ROM upgrade restores on my Polaris but i will try it on my Leo tonight.
I will post my findings here after upgrading.
Thank you, that is very interresting! Sprite Backup is a very powerful tool, no doubt! But to recover every little detail after a ROM update seems too good to be true. The registry scares me, the registry from the 1.48 might not be identical to the 1.43. But the backup will plaster all the old settings over it, can that be OK?? Who knows...
I've found 'My phone' to be very good for backing up the general user data on board the HD2 but am aware of it's limitations.
I want to be able to backup my registry, sense items: (stocks, weather locations etc) opera favourites etc to my backup hard drive so that should I have to hard reset I can easily restore everything as it was as I finally have my phone set up the way that I like. However I don't know the file names or where the files are located.
Can other people add to this the locations of the backup files needed to make a full backup and also any other things that should be backed up that I haven't got in my list?

Sprite full backup, you can also set it up to backup SD card.
......... or SPB Backup. Serves me excellent .
BTW: Question to the Masterminds here: what would be the EXACT procedures to make a backup in a way that the entire ROM/RAM/mSD-Card can be backed up, so that in case I have to buy a new HD2 it can be reflashed with my exact ROM-version + rest that works so flawless ?

regarding the rom, none, you simply need to save the nbh for rom and radio somewhere and flash them again after you buy the new hd2, then restore with a sprite backup or similar over the same rom/radio
has anyone done a full restore using sprite? I am considering trying a cooked rom but I would like to know if I can restore back to a stock rom just in case.

A full backup should only be reapplied to the exact same ROM it was made on.

- Make a full backup of the old device with SPB backup as you have it
- Download and flash the same ROM you had on the old device, or flash it from the local copy you obviously kept for that exact reason in case the cook somehow decided to take it offline
- Take microSD card from old device and put in new one
- Restore backup on new device
There you are...
Thanks for those program suggestions however I'd rather copy half a dozen files/folders over to my backup device than spend $20 on a program that does more or less the same thing.
I'm looking to find out the file locations of the stocks, registry, weather locations, time zones ertc not backed up by the 'my phone' application. Does anyone know which files hold this information? In particular I did a google search and despite being a master at it I couldn't find any info on the location of the system registry so does anyone know where that is? I found that CeRegEditor failed to restore the registry backup when I needed it to.
thanks

Check the Energy ROM thread. There is some talk of it in post #5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
i did it with my o2 rom just to see how to do it, but in all honesty i won't be doing it again. No point when the rom is available to download, and it doesnt save settings anyway. Ive posted teh how-to just because you asked about 'dumping the rom' so it will no doubt get hits from epople wanting to know how, and not just people like you wanting to backup, not dump.
dump the .raw partitions, reading step one in THIS first post will help.
Then set up ervius visual kitchen and use the 'raws2nbh' function to rebuild the raw files into the .nbh rom file.
BUT, it wont save your rom as it is now, with all your settings and such, it will only dump the rom as it was when you first ran the phone.
Far easier to just download the stock rom from somewhere.
Plus the rom you create even though it is stock will still be seen as a cooked rom by teh phone, so you would need hspl installed to flash it.
So, you need to look more into backup software, like sprite backup, PIm backup, or sashimi/makisu, or the like.
thanks very much. I guess I stick with backing up the settings and flashing the stock rom... thanks for the feedback again... ps: the point was to have the rom just how out was when dumped...

Yea, i know what you mean.
I found a cooked rom that i liked, and the chef also offered the kitchen with it. (which means i run the kitchen, press 'build' and fifteen minutes later the rom is created, ready to flash.)
Then, knowing i have a rom that i already like, i can start to make small adjustments. Progs that i normally have to reinstal every time i have converted to cookable packages, various registry tweaks that i used to instal from cab every time i have now cooked in.
A great way to get an easy intro into cooking, but because it's already built you aren't starting from a stock rom, facing weeks of tweaks. Instead i know i already like the rom, and i can slowly apply extra tweaks as i learn.
Look out for rom threads who offer 'comes with kitchen'.
ChuckyROM is the one that comes to mind, but there are others too.
I now have cookies home tab mod pre installed, and right from the start it has my layout, and all my quicklinks already there, as well as most of teh cabs i used to instal manually already built in, owner name pre set, home location/timezone etc etc all pre set, my own lockscreen, i've removed tons of unused images and language files, and such like.
My rom is down to around 145MB. (Stock is around 200MB+).
Best of all, i cooked in 'remotetracker', so if my phone gets stolen/lost, , even a hard reset wont stop it being trackable.
Fun stuff, if you dont mind spending a few hours at a time cooking/flashing/re-cooking/flashing/re-re-cooking, , , hehe

well its not that simple. when a chef cooks the rom, it is usually protected, so you cant just dump a cooked rom. Thats why you have to get a pre built kitchen for that rom.
Sadly there is no simple step by step for all this.
THIS thread is for OSKitchen, which is pretty good, and fairly straightforward.
I suggest you just get a kitchen, dump a stock rom into it, and just have a look around it for a while first, so you get the idea of what you are facing.
Follow posts 1 - 4 and that should give you an evenings tinkering to get started.
Or there is ervius' visual kitchen, which isn't quite so straight forward, but works really well for me.
Reading HERE and HERE and HERE
and lots of reading in 'Chef Central'
However, to get immediate results, i found it far better to start with a pre built kitchen.
HERE is the one i first started to tinker with.
I gave up on kitchens a half dozen times in the past months, it just seems so overwhelming, which is why a ready made rom i could make minor tweaks to came in so handy.
thanks allot, I'm going to get to it right away. I'll post if I hit a wall.

convert it to an ext package, which will generate a folder with various files/subfiles, one of which is a reg file, edit that, add your registry entries (extracted from your currently running phone, using ceregistry editor ((if you dont already have them, immediately you finish reading this go get wincecab manager, ceregistry editor, and look up CAB_Converter too.)))
Use cab converter to change the cab into an ext.
as always, the best advice is to read everything, then read it again, hehe.
A working example.
connect your phone to usb, open ceregistry editor, click connect, browse to HKLM\software\HTC\manila\Home There are 80 or so numbered folders, Thats for the quicklinks.
In the tree view on the left, right click the folder Home and choose 'export'. A file save dialog will open, call it something like home, OK. You should get something like '81 keys exported'
Now, browse to the folder where the converted cookies EXT is, find the file 'app.reg'. Double click to open it in ceregistry editor, you will see a similar registry view as you saw on the phone, except with loads less entries. Find HKLM\software\HTC\manila\Home, select the home folder, hit delete, confirm, its now gone.
Go to top of ceregistry editor - hit Edit - Import registry keys from file.
Now, by default it will be looking for .reg files, but we exported ours as .cereg, so change the filetype dropdown to 'all files'.
Find your 'home.cereg' file we exported, click it, you will get a 'sucessfully imported,....blahblah', hit save, and now, when you cook the rom, your quicklinks will already be there as soon as the phone first boots.
Use SPB backup
Use SPB backup. Works wonders. I have a backup for the 3 or 4 roms I run. So all I have to do is load the rom, load spb backup and restore the backup and all my settings, email accounts, facebook and the such is ready to go.

use the 'raws2nbh' function to rebuild the raw files into the .nbh rom file.

This step is much more complicated than it sounds. Any possibility that you could include instructions for this?
Thanks!

sure you want to bother? it wont save your settings as they are now, so you are essentially dumping the stock rom as it was when you got the phone (Assuming you're running a stock rom that is, if its a cooked rom it probably wont convert anyway)
All (most) of teh stock roms are available to download, so its an accademic task only, , , ,

Actually, yes. I realize its redundant work, but I don't see how I could ever become a proper "chef" if I can't even manage to dump a ROM.

hehe, well, ive only done it once, so you know as much as me, , get ervius vis kitchen (im sure other kitchens can do it too, just i use evk) click extra buttons, top left button is raws2nbh, follow the prompts.
You dont need to do this to cook, you know that? the kitchen will import a downloaded stock nbh, no need for the dump to get a kutchen working.
