Does it really close programs when I click the "ok" or the "x" button at the top right hand of the screen? I did that for Wayfinder when I wanted to get rid of it but they said it was still running... This makes me consider getting the SPB PocketPlus...
I'm using WKTask and it works great. You always know whats open and can easily close it, as well as switching from one app to another quickly and efficiently.
Ah...so is SPB Pocket Plus really worth it then?
Why don't you use Task Manager??
It does the job.
Also you can set the "x" to CLOSE programs when tapping it OR tapping AND touching for a while (loooong tap).
I think it's just a personal preference. There's plenty of options out there to deal with this issue easily.
I'm using SBP pocket plus as well, just not using the X button option it comes with.
QuickMenu also has a little "close" program list in it as well. All are totally usable apps. It comes down to being what works for you

Is there a way to assign quick menu to a hard key? Its hard reaching in the top right corner for the X with your fingers at times. Just trying to find a better way to close programs rather than minimizing them.

But you can ALSO CLOSE program with that X but just have to assign it.
i know i assign the x to close but how can we just reassign the ok hard key to close?

When closing programs why do they still run i n the background. any way to properly close them ...
Whenever possible I try to "exit" through its menu (usuallybottom left in most programs). When you close just by hitting the X in the top right corner thats when it stays running in the background
I'm only a newbie mind you and there might be other solutions out there

Most programs made for pocket pc do not close by pushing any of the top buttons (ie ok & X). Instead they just move behind other window so you cant see them. This is supposed to be the ppc equivelant of minimizing. The idea is strongly pushed by microsoft, and has some merit. Personally I like to have at least an option to "really" exit a program, but in most cases the only way to truly exit is via the memory manager in the settings or some third party task manager.
To really CLOSE a program install SPB Pocket Plus or Wisbar Advance. More people like SPB Pocket Plus.
Those programs add an option then really close a program when you hit ok and/or close button

All of the tools in previous post are ok. Though I use ae button plus to remap tge hardware buttons, it allows separate commands for double- & triple click as well. & for really closing apps I use VJOkButt assigned to one of the double clicks. Btw the OS is designed to send apps to the background instead of closing them. That way the reopen much quicker, counterpart is that a magician has limited ram & it's souped up rapidly.

That's a Battery Pack feature.

I do use magic button but having to touch the screen to close an app sucks.
this seems to work, but only half works, it closes the apps, but leaves them running in the background, you have to go into settings and memory to close them fully, i would have thought microsoft would have thought of fixing that problem with this new WM 5.0 OS

VJOkButt will do what ranchosteve asked for, in conjunction with a hardware key mapper like AE Button Plus. However, I don't recommend the app. It doesn't seem to work perfectly for everyone and may be withdrawn.

Under settings/buttons you can assign one of the buttons to close apps. I have used button 4. Hope this helps 8)
Use SmartKeys
Use SmartKeys - it allowes to use right softbutton to close the app when pressed down for a few seconds. Search for it in the forum. :wink:

Ok button just minimize. I dont wanna always use stylus for that.
You can always click the end call button and that will close the current program.
No it wont. It just minimize it. If you check running programs, you can see it there. It needed to be closed. I think there's no button for that

Consider using an app closer like Wisbar, Magic Button, GSPocketMagic, my favourite, Small Menu Plus, or SMClose (very light, works well).
My app VJOkButt can also be assigned to a hardware key to close apps.

Has anyone been able to assign close to a hardware button in WM6? I don't mean the <OK/Close> option in the Buttons settings, as that only minimizes the program. I know that HTC X-Button and other task managers can do it by using the stylus or finger, but I'm trying to simplify it.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Decompress and copy the program and .ini to your programs folder and run. When held down, the right softkey will close most any program. Holding down the left softkey will activate the start menu and the volume switch will scroll.

btw, just to put a different pov on it since ive used smartskey and dont like having to hold the button down... i always assign button four to ok/close which does minimize, but i install pbar 1.5 as well. it responds well with just a thumbpress in the upper right, and so i periodically press the close all button one handed. also handy for restarting and having a top battery bar that looks good and is not multicolored... although i guess i never really thought of using both

The OK button doesn't close the map or minimize it :-s (if i'm right)
It's just a OK-button
but the X-button does close or minimze the app/window.
You can configure this somewhere in the Configuration of WinMo.
But default it is like this:
If you press the X-button shortly, it will minimize the app
If you hold the X-button, it will be closed.
Some apps does close, if you press x-button shortly..
So it depends on the app itself.

There IS a function called "OK/Close" - which probably equals "<Default>". However, there is also a function "[Close]" which might work for you. However, I am not sure if this function became available through PocketPlus original installation or through the Shortcuts Addon (Which you can download for free). So I recommend you check out PocketPlus. You can try it for free. You should consider the fact that many windows as for example Settings require you to press the OK Button to save them, in these menues you would have to tap OK on the screen otherwise the Close-Function might Cancel the dialogue.

ok thanks, right now the ok button has the same functionality as the red end call button, rather useless
