I have downloaded an AVI and I want to play it on my mobile, what codec do I need to convert it to? and can anyone suggest any software to convert.
I'm running stock ROM etc.
You can go through the troubles of converting it or easier, use TCPMP to play it. You can probably use Super to convert it TCPMP would really be the easy way to go.

Are there playable on a htz wizard (gp3) phone if yes what software and does it run stable?
Ciao
Player: i use DivX Mobile Player, downloaded directly from divx.com. quite stable, fast and easy user interface
Files: any divx can be just copied on the memory card and played.
Hint: Since the mobile would have to convert using the processor the dimensions of the output i suggest (OPTIONAL) to use VirtualDub to downgrade the movies to 320x240.
This weekend on the airplane i was looking at the last dexter episode and was quite smooth and clear. Also downgraded the file was quite small (40mb).
If you need help in finding the proper conversion settings with virtualdub (that can work also in batch mode) just send me a line.
Thank you for your input. Is it also possible to play files like mkvs and such. I am a anime fan myself and I want to be able to download a episode and easily watch is. Also send me that bath line if possible or post it so that the other users can too
No problem
The Matroska files are containers. Often the stream is already encoded in DivX format. I'll D/L one anyway and give it a try on my palm with DivX original player and let you know.
The other possibility is to use CorePlayer Mobile, that natively can play it. But is $25
Of course if you want to scale down the file and being able to share it more easly there is a VirtualDub distribution that does also MKV to DivX conversion, is virtualdubmod.
I am thinking to write in the weekend a complete guide for the "put your movies on the palm" item to share it. Both the GUI and the command line (batchable) process.
I'll do it before upgrading my WM5 rom
Quick question
I need to put some video files on my wizard but i cannot remember for the life of me what i need to convert them to play
depend on the player if you wanna play it on windows media player
ms's free encoder to make it wmv would prob be the way to go
Cheers
pocketdivxencoder usually works pretty good for me and running tcmp to play the avi files works pretty well for me
Just download SUPER. It does most video formats, and most audio formats (though sadly, not FLAC, I just discovered...) It is, however, free, easy to use, and pretty quick about it.
Direct link to windows installer: http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
P.S. Your phone likes it best when things are optimized for viewing upon its screen. Generally, that means AVI format, MPEG-4 codec, mp3 audio, scale video size to 320/240. SUPER has a default setup called avi (for Pocket PC) that makes it pretty well idiot-proof. Not to discourage any idiots out there from trying....
Hi
I have searched and RTFW.....but maybe I missed it somewhere.
Looking for a good player that will play FLV's on our device. Have tried youtubeplayer but I find that the timeline bar doesn't work so you can't fast forward through a vid.
Also it doesn't play all the FLV's I have.
Has anyone got any better solutions? I have tried TCPMP player with source forge FLV codec but it keeps crashing out :-(
Thanks and appreciate any help!
was gonna say tcpmp but you nixed that
Can you not convert flv into a nicer format?
I've found FLVs sometimes dont even work on desktop flvplayer for seeking or resizing - and that's down to the FLV file. only way to fix them is to play them through, or rebuild the stream....or convert to another better format.
I just think there are many crappy .flv files out there with lazy web-players.
If you are using a tool like dwhelper then get it to auto-convert on download to a sane format.
No issue for me with this TCPMP version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
help. i need somebody to help me, im having problem to watch video files or transfe video files
i cant transfer or watch mp4 or avi files on my acer a500
with any custome rom i use, help.. thank you
Download mx player, and install the codec for arm7 tablet.
you need to install a third party media player. the stock media player in android dosent play alot of files(or at least not very well). there are several out there just pick a good free one. most people use moboplayer and it will install the needed codecs when you open it(but last time i tried it ,it didnt work on acer android 3.1 why i dont know) so I use rockplayer light for now. it plays most files with out need for other downloads.
There are tons of media players just go to market and find one that you like and that plays your files.
First and foremost just want to apologize if there is a duplicate thread regarding this issue.
I just want to know how I can transfer and play movies or videos on my Nexus 4. Clearly I'm not trying to pay for the ones on the play store. The files I'm talking about are either .mpeg, .flv, .avi or xvid(pardon any format incorrections).
Is there a way to play these files on my phone using an app? And if I had to convert them to whatever, where can I get a FREE converter that works wonders and accepts any file size? Am I asking for too much?
Greatly appreciate any help on this.
I use MX Player (free in the Play Store); it handles lots of video formats (not sure whether the list includes all the specific ones you mentioned).
For conversion, I use Handbrake. It's free and also handles lots of formats.

Thanks a bunch dude, doesn't look like I'll need that converter afterall. Saved me a headache!
I use BSPlayer Free. It is one of the best out there and it is free as well
Features Pop-up play
Plays every video format i have thrown at it
Automatically downloads movie subtitles and more.
Try it out yourself. In my opinion it is better than MX PLAYER
MX Player is my choice too. Sometimes I find it can't handle older formats too well so I use handbrake to make a .mp4 with H.264 codec to make it run nice and smooth on the Nexus 4.
